Walmart online

Postby GlennaRae » Sun Aug 30, 2009 3:22 am

My son bought a Garmin nuvi 205 W GPS in June. He left me the box it came in so I could go to Wal Mart and buy one exactly like his. I checked Walmart online for the price before going to the store. The cost on line was $144.54. They had them at our Walmart and the price was $169.00. I ask clerk why so much different. He said different packaging so they could go green. I bought it and with tax cost was $182.52. Came home and ordered on line and will be delived to my home for $159.07. Pretty expensive packaging.

Hmmmm.... I think somebody is talking through their hat on that one. I hope you are going to return the one you bought at the store! Even not paying sales tax online wouldn't make that much of a difference. Good for you for doing your homework! :D

Buying online at Walmart I still pay the 8 per cent tax that is charge at my local Walmart. The tax charged is $11.56 on the $144.54 cost and $2.97 delivered to my home. I am anxious to see if it will be in the same box. I will be taking the more expensive GPS back.

Often things are cheaper on line. The explanation I was given was that there is no expense for people to do the stocking in the store and also the shipping costs of items to the store. Walmart site-to-site shipping is free so I order and pick up at the store.

The online store or warehouse still has to be stocked and someone has to pull the order and get it to shipping. Sounds like a lame excuse to me. If they are not careful, savvy shoppers will buy the lower priced items. Why go into the store when the online prices are cheaper? I think they need to re-think that reasoning. Linda

I always figured it was cheaper online, at first, but then amounted to about the same once S&H is added on. But in this case, I guess not. ;)
