FROSTY FRIDAY

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

FROSTY FRIDAY

Postby Nasoosie » Fri Aug 28, 2009 6:36 am

GOOD MORNING TO ALL!

We had frost on the ground earlier, and it's still only 34 out there....good thing I brought my flowers in from the front deck last night before bed. And Molly and I have 2 mice to release this morning, after I get warmed up with hot coffee! We stayed warm in the trailer under my -50F sleeping bag last night---I didn't know it was so cold until I had to get out of it! I could have turned the furnace on out there and it would have been toasty, but I decided to come in here to the house and try out the Monitor heater to make sure it's still functional. It seems to be running fine, and the heat sure does feel GOOD! My kerosene tank is full to the brim, and my wood rack in here is full as I have been bringing in a log each time I think of it while going past the wood piles. Soon I will have to cover them for the winter before the snow piles up on them. (Note to self---buy some tarps.)

I guess I will paint some brown today as it's supposed to begin raining later today and continue most of the weekend. That will mean shopping time for me. and indoor housecleaning. ACK!

And first of all, when the weather gets too nasty to paint, I guess I will need to tackle the yearly chimney cleaning project. That means unscrewing the aluminum panels that block off the chimney opening here at the hearth, taking out the stove pipe and replacing the sections that need replacing, vacuuming out the horrible cresosote on the smoke ledge, lying on my back in the hearth area with ski goggles and a face mask on while running the steel brush with extensions up and down the chimney. Then vacuuming it all up from the hearth. See why I so love this job? And then, the best of all....fitting the stove pipe back around the smoke ledge, holding it together (probably have to drill holes and put a screw (or many) in there to hold it together while manoevering it, moving the heavy woodstove back into place, fitting the aluminum shields back in place and screwing those in. Not an easy job for just one person, as you have to hold the floppy sections and screw at the same time. All in all, this is a good half day's work, or more, depending on if I need to go to town for new pipe or not. All should be made easier this year by the addition of my new cordless Ryobi drill/screwdriver! Usually I have had to hand screw all those things! Something to look forward to, I suppose!

I hope you all will have a decent day, wherever you may be and whatever you may be doing. Coffee is hot and Hazlenut and strong and black with various kinds of creamers to make it palatable. I am sure there are snacks stashed somewhere around here in Barb's cabinets! Stop in a while and let us know what's up in your world. I will read some posts and my email and then warm up the kicker for mouse-release purposes. Happy Friday to you all.

You are incredible!!!!!! I'd be in a condo in town and let someone else do all the winter work. WOW
Frost already? Does that mean its going to be a bad winter?
Here in Indiana we're back to shorts and t-shirts after a couple of quite cool days.
We're waiting for the satellite instalation on Jennie then we will head out on a trip. Bill is searching for more to do in her but can't think of anything.
Wishing everyone a really good day.

Good-morning Everyone! Well, I'm back home and fighting the big let-down, along with all the dirty laundry I brought home with me and the mess of clearing all of my stuff out of Liz's r.v. , half of it is still parked in the corner of my bedroom. I will never catch up with all the goings on here. Did enjoy some of it yesterday afternoon, but to tired to think right enough to comment then. Seems there are a lot of new people, thats great, Welcome All !!!!

What a Great trip we had, one that I will go over and over, for the rest of my life Would love to go back one day, but so many things yet to see, that I haven't yet, when I do that, I'll do do-overs ;)

Loved meeting you Soos, what a neat place you have. I agree with Carol, you have more gumption, then I ever would have. Good for you! Great gathering of good people at your place, I'm so glad we made it there, even for a couple of days.

The Tn. GTG, is sounding good too, not to far away from me, but I have to gather myself together here and get 4 months of mess cleared away somewhat here, first. Any spots left at the CG?

Gotta get moving, have a great day all, rainy here, but not in the house, where I am working :D

Carolinagal, back home, and not to happy about it.

Oh, yes, I remember those days of doing "chimney sweep" duty when we had a stick house and a wood stove...Dirty work, but has to be done before the snow flies...  Hence, one of the reasons we are full-timers..... But we are looking at a small, electric, wood stove- looking, heater for the 5er...it would fit right under the big oval mirror in here....runs about $200....

Raining here today....and that cold front that Carol & Bill had has reached central PA...so we in the jeans for a couple of days....

Okay, got to run....have a great day, all..........

Good morning, all. Well Soos, a gal's gotta do what a gal's gotta do-unless, of course, she can get someone else to do it :D We are here in hot and humid Tampa until Sunday. Have worked out a plan with SIL and BIL to continuing dealing with MIL until we return Oct.1 for our 6 month (upped from previous 5 month) stay to be the winter caretaker of MIL. We are going to resume our trip by driving back to AR to visit friends for 1 week instead of planned 2 weeks, and then on to NC for the Sept birthdays of 3 of our GK's and DH's also. Well, onto doing chores and getting ready to hit the road again :D carold

Soos, I'm totally blown away by you. I'm a fulltimer cause I got tired of upkeep on my little house and yard. You're a true mountain woman - is there anything you can't do?

I don' t think there has been a night since I got to the Kaibab that I haven't had my electric blanket on. Nice during the day, but chilly at night. Update on Court appearance...I just had to pay a bond, the amount of the fine and I will get a court date sometime in September. I've been told that this particulat police officer is an ass, and I won't get it reversed. But I''ll have my say in Court at least. My son and daughter are here for a visit. We are going to do the smooth water half day rafting trip on Sunday. The whitewater one lasts for three days as there is no way to get out once you are commited to the rapids. I'd love to do that, but it's probably expensive as they have to feed and house you along the way. Yesterday Beth and my family hiked to Horseshoe Bend viewpoint. I hope Beth got some good photos as I discovered I'd forgotten my memory stick. Lovely viewpoint though.
