Back in Coffeyville, Kansas

I drove the 40 miles north from Bartlesville, Oklahoma back to Coffeyville, Kansas and Amazon.com this morning, to work for the next four months. Please check out my blog entry for more info as well as a few pictures of my great camp site.

The site really looks like a nice set up. It is neat how the "community" comes together around the seasonal work there. And I know a little of what you mean. I have wondered several time these past couple of years why I keep making payments on a MH I haven't really been able to take full opportunity of. One reason as I have stated before is b/c looking out the window and passing it in the driveway keeps my dream alive and reminds my that Travel will happen.....and I am reminded of the sense that settles over my as I have been able to take off on short trips....It just feels so right..... As if it was the most natural thing in the world and I could keep driving on and on wandering down new roads.....

What a perfect-looking campsite, Chris! No wonder you are giving it another go-around! And now when I order from Amazon, which I very often do, I will be imagining your shipping it to me!

Do you find it hard to tow your truck behind your Class C? I know you cannot back up, at least that's what I have been told, when you tow a vehicle, and, as I can't back anyway, maybe it would be no different than towing my trailer!

Keep in touch---will be very interested in seeing how your camp-work stint goes. I didn't know Amazon had these offers at all. That work schedule seems excellent, too.

No, in fact, after so many years of camping with a tent-trailer, having to back it up just so in order to match the hitch with the ball, using a towbar is just too easy. I can do it alone in a few minutes. The pickup just follows along behind, turns when I do, etc.

Since, as you noted, you can't back up while hooked up, there have been several times I've explored a wrong road and have been unable to turn around without unhitching, such as the time I ended up at a dead end in some farmer's field in northern California next to a stack of hay, unable to go anywhere. But, it was easy to get out of that situation and I was back down the road in a few minutes.

I've driven the motorhome across country without the pickup and loved the way it handled, almost like a car. I could even park in the automobile area of rest stops instead of the truck area. But, most of my driving has been with the pickup attached and I've gotten used to having it. I use a Brake Buddy auxiliary braking system for safety, and really don't notice any difference in handling, other than needing to go a little slower, around 55, as recommended by the pickup manufacturer.

IMHO, whoever invented the towbar should be sainted or something.

P.S. Just looked at my map and it seems I need to color in a few more states from last week's trip to Ohio.
