Part of growing up on the farm was always..."Woodchucks are a dangerous for farm animals, i.e. cows & horses can break legs in their holes in the ground...and also hard on farm equipment when doing the haying...can tip wagons over hitting those holes. Also they love to raise heck with you veggie garden." said my Dad.....so, our summer shooting practice was at Mr. Woodchuck...we never ate them....so don't know how they taste....trapping would work, but be prepared to have his brother, sister, mother, father, wife, and kids in the yard, too.....fill any burrow holes you find to help keep the population down......Okay, I'm done with the "down on the farm" advice on getting rid of woodchucks...

I think I've been convinced to let G go ahead and put the poor guy out of our misery...ESPECIALLY if it'll be a danger to our pesky little Abby...

Thanks for convincing me.

So, really - just hang around outside, shotgun propped in elbow, waiting until it shows up again? Shotgun or handgun? I really don't want guts everywhere...

I'm for trapping. My major problem in moving from California to Texas when I retired was the Texas attitude of shooting anything that moves. We're in the process here at the campground of trapping skunks and relocating them WAAAAAAY out in the forest.

Yep, that's a useless groundhog all right. They are everywhere here in Canada and can eat all your crops as they love foraging in the garden. They usually build a tunnel under ground with 2 exits so they can run away from whatever threatens them.
Yes, they can be viscious and all those groundhog holes are guilty of breaking many a horses leg when they fall into one. Had a pony when my children were small and he broke his leg that way. SHOOT THEM if you're allowed.
Remember- Keep smiling-
They'll wonder what you're up to.

We had a mouse problem a few years ago. I know it's not the same size, but they will bring the whole family in if allowed. Then you will really have problems. Get rid of it ASAP by whatever means necessary. Tina, spew alert on the taste testing comment. Too funny. Linda

I'm not coming to the GTG if I have to eat Groundhog. Train him to walk toward the road so he will become road kill....I think it's legal in TN to eat road kill. Let someone else have that feast.
