Storm Story

Postby asirimarco » Thu Aug 06, 2009 10:56 am

We ran into that horrible storm coming home from Ohio. Just before Indianapolis it caught us on the freeway with no where to go. We had stopped at one rest stop earlier until the rain stopped but just before Indy it started again. It got really dark and started to pour and blow. Could not see 5 feet in front. The winds were 60-70 miles an hour. There were WAVES on the freeway. Everyone was stopping including the 18 wheelers. Everyone was being blown around. It looked like we were trying to drive up a river into a waterfall. I've never seen anything like it. By then dark as night. Pulled over but were being buffetted by the wind terrible. Could see an overpass just ahead so crept up to it and hunkered down until it blew over. (Us and lots of others) Absolutely terrifiying!!

Then got home and had no power - lots of treees and wires down. Little town of Nashville was completely closed. Power came back on around 9 p.m.
Next day got up to no water. The pumping station pumps were out because of no electricity. AND THEY DIDN"T HAVE GENERATORS????
More joys of country living. Finally got water back around 11 p.m. Don't realize how many times a day you wash your hands until you don't have water. We did have water in motorhome though.
Just some of the trees down

Sure glad we got our new roof when we did.

Wow! I'm so glad you got through unscathed! I would have been petrified to be on the road in those conditions...it was bad enough here at the house without having to drive in it!!! Heavy sigh of relief, eh?

Wow, how scary. Glad you made it through okay. If I had to drive thru something like that I would be happy I had a bathroom on board.

Like we say, we do so love our self contained MHs........... It is always scary out on the interstate b/c even if YOU stop and pull over as far as you can, you can't know that the fellows coming up behind you stay focused in their correct lanes, it is so easy to get lost so to speak.... gulp, can we say rear ended smash.....

I would have been petrified if I had been driving. We went thru one really bad storm a few years ago, but luckily we were parked, although we did get buffetted around and thought we might get turned over. . So glad you managed to find "safe" haven. I wouldn't be surprised if there had been some major rear ending or accidents. Glad to hear your power and water have been restored and, once again, your MH came in handy. :D Any more hair raising stories? carold

Glad you were able to get through that weather unscathed. I'm driving up to Dayton, OH from NE Oklahoma next weekend to visit my brother, and while I really hate this hot and humid weather, hope I don't run into a storm like that.
