Back problems

Postby retiredhappy » Thu Jul 30, 2009 4:21 pm

Sorry I've missed saying Happy Birthday to so many of you. My back went out on me last Friday morning and thinking it would "sleep" out I had to wait until Monday to find a chiropractor. Thank God I found a good oldfashioned one - no xrays, no consultation, etc just a great treatment. Problem was it had been out for so many days that it kept going out thus 3 trips on Monday, 1 on Tuesday, 2 on Wednesday and so far only 1 today. Missed two days of work and am moving very carefully today. So far today, it seems to be staying in. I've had it go out before (right between my shoulder blades) but never had so much trouble getting it to stay in. He gave me some exercises to strengthen the muscles when I'm better. I'm going back to work tomorrow and we'll see. Thank God he's only charged me for one visit a day. Its hell to get old and not heal like you did when you were twenty.

Back problems are terrible. And you're right - getting old sucks.
Here's to healing quickly!

oh no, thats not fun at all, been there done that. Move slow but do keep moving
when you can. Thats what they told me when I did that, the back exercises are good,
my favorite was when you lay on the bed and roll up in a ball holding your knees to
your chest and you kind of roll and rock your back, that was my favorite one. Hope
you get "good as new" in no time.

Wasn't given the ball exercise - sounds hard. He gave me shoulder shrugs with light weights in each hand and "push ups" off something counter height.

I was reaching at a strange angle this morning, weeding my flowerbed, and I felt my back give a twinge between my shoulderblades. I stopped immediately and slowly stood up and that caught it before it went out. Amazing how much we take our bodies for granted until it hurts to use it. I can relate to your pain, Karen. Hope it heals quickly for you.

Sorry to hear about your back, Karen. Hope it heals quickly. Nothing like finding a good dr when you're on the road, or for that matter, wherever you are. Hmmm, maybe "no heavy lifting" is not the only thing you should put in your resume  carold

Oooh, Karen, that is such an awkward place to have a problem. I sometimes have to bend that area over the back of a chair to snap everything into place. Hope you are doing better.

HOWEVER, ladies------it sure does beat the alternative!

It's taking a hideously long time for my ribs to feel better, for sure-----BUT, my ribs and I are still alive! Hope you feel better soon....believe me, how well I know what it's like to not feel like you can do anything, anytime, all of the time!

Backs and Ribs, two injuries that seem to take the longest to heal. My mother was small and would constantly bend wrong when reaching for something and end up cracking a rib. It seemed to take a long time for the rib to heal. My father loved to play golf and would always throw his back out retrieving the ball from the cup. We used to know when he played a round. He did play up to the day he died, bless his heart. Karen and Soos, hope you two heal quickly. Linda

WOW! I sure do hope I don't have to look forward to breaking a rib just by reaching for something! All the more reason for me to NOT forget to take my Fossamax each week!

Hope you are feeling better today, Karen!

OUCH!!!! Been there, done that and it ain't fun, but glad you found a good chiropractor....I swear by them, only thing that kept me walking and working for years. If my neck and lower back ever quit hurting it would probably drive me crazy they've hurt for so long. Had the middle of the shoulder blade thingy, too, you can't even take a breath w/o it hurting. Feel for you my friend. Hope it gets in and stays put soon.
