Escaping the heat....

Okay...we called the resort campground that is about 1 or so from the house. They have a pull through site with only electric..on the lake. So we are leaving the homestead...we broke into triple digits today...with the power outage this am...and us not being home all day. The inside of the house is 95 degrees. We can't take the dogs to this place (thus the reason we have never really opted to camp there). Dh will come home later tonight and spend the night here, as it is a bit cooler in the basement. Then we will come home in the morning for a couple of hours to walk them and play with them while it is cool. Then we go back to the campsite. We will only go for a couple of nights..it is suppose to cool back down this weekend to the 80's....hard to believe that we actually looking forward to temps in the 80's. Not sure if I will be on much over the next couple of days.

wow,... can't imagine 95 in the house. I have all new windows on my house, really makes a difference in keeping it cool. But then we don't get those wicked temperatures here in the Adirondacks, either. Glad you are going to be more comfy at the campground. Why won't they allow dogs? That's unusual, isn't it?

Kris, here in SW WA we are getting a break today and it's only going to hit 100. It was 107 yesterday and 106 the day before. No fans or air conditioners left on any store shelves in WA or OR!! My house gets to around 88 inside. The humidity is what is really bad for me. My face has actually broken out like a teenager! It's suppose to get back to the 90s for the weekend and then back to more normal temps, 80s. My mower broke and I had to send for a part and it came in day before yesterday. I HAD to get the back yard mowed as the grass was way past my ankles so I waited until almost 9 last night and did that. By the time I got done (had to mow twice, once at a high level and then at my normal level), my clothes were sticking to me and I took a cold shower afterward. The humidity also has my bathroom door sticking!

We had triple digit temps here (Oklahoma) last week that lasted a good week. Had the AC running and ceiling fans, plus had desk top fans and floor model fans all running and the temp in the house was 85 to 87. Nothing seemed to really help. The temp was still 80 in the house at 7AM . The good part, we didn't have any brownouts. I spent my time in the camper. Plugged in, turned the AC on (much less space to cool) and loaded the dogs in the camper. We were able to cool down. I was really worried about my 15 yr old shepherd/lab mix, she just couldn't cool down, but managed to after about an hour. I can just imagine the electric bill this month. Stay cool as best as you PNW can. Linda

OMG I was raised in the Seattle area and know they're not used to hot weather. A lot of homes don't have AC. This is what its like to live in Texas complete with high humidity. That's why I "get out of Dodge" in the summer. I just can't deal with high temps AND high humidity and I HATE sweating. There's nothing dainty about me in the heat - I sweat like a pig. Its especially hard on small kids and animals. We're lucky to have RVs that are easier to cool to move in to. Tell me again that there's no climate change going on.

This is the weirdest weather this year - sounds like all over the country. Here in NW, temps should be high 90s, or into triple digits, with heat index upwards of 110.

This year, it's not been hot enough to use the pool the last few weeks. And we're having guests (with 2 teenagers) next Tuesday. So, if you'd care to, please send some of your hot to me, and I'll send you some of my cool (but with it, you get 97% humidity!) !!!

And here in PA all it does is rain... When the sun does shine the temps. get into the mid 70s....and a day or 2 at 80......once a week I do a mildew/molded check as it grows quickly in this weather.....good thing we full-time, so all I have to check is the 5er and it's a small place compared to a house...

Can you believe we left the cool coast of Oregon to head east on 84 thru Portland. It's in the high 90's where we stopped at Hood River. I think the only reason we found a space for the night is that we are exchanging places with everyone here. It was in the 50's when we left this am. DH was ready to go. We are also thinking of surprising 3 GKs living in NC who have birthdays in the middle of Sept. As Barbz said, I have a surprise every morning. carold

My son that lives in Seattle is in his glory. His co-workers ride him all the time about being cold and now they think they are dying in 90 degree temps. My son is use to Louisiana summers and 90's not that bad. He said people are fighting over fans at the stores.

It has gotten down right ugly here...it is finally cooling.
Once place here in town got a shipment of AC's from Idaho. People were coming in buying them for $200.00 and then turning around and selling them for 400-500 bucks and people were actually buying them. I told DH for 400-500 bucks I could get a nice motel with AC for a few nights.

I know this has been the hottest since we moved here 10 years ago. 2 years ago we had a hot streak also..but it didn't hit triple digits. I just can't see spending 100's of dollars on something that one only needs for a few days every year. I mean sure we have the RV, even though the site we were at we could not use it..the fans and shade and being on the water cooled it down.

I did tell DH when the fans finally do get restocked..I am buying some additional ones, just smaller ones for each bedroom. Then I am also going to look at getting some of those bamboo shade things. For the front dining room windows...as here the worst time of the heat is 3-6pm and we have two large windows that sun just beats down and through.

I was reading an up on the weather and it seems that in the 1960's it also got this hot...then in the 1970's there was talk of a returning ice age. It would be interesting to research further back and see what the weather cycles have been like. Not sure how far back they have kept accurate records though.

Kris, I have to agree on the weather patterns that everyone seems to not check out when crying that we are having global warming. Who's to say it isn't a normal pattern for Mother Earth. Look at how the dinosaurs got extinct, or the dust bowl era. JMHO not wanting to start anything.
Back to our heatwave. Or the next one as it seems this one is pretty much over although with one more day in the 90s will will have set a record for 8 days in a row over 90. I have 3 small fans and believe me, when it gets that hot they don't stir enough air unless you sit directly in front of them. Me? I'm going to get a couple of the bigger window fans. I figure one can blow in the cooler morning air and the other suck out the hot air. Then I'll shut the house up and use them to keep the cooler air moving inside.

Just FYI an idea that you might want to try. Down here, in the olden days, before A/C in the homes,,, If you put a pan of water in front of the fan, use caution that it won't come in contact, but the fan blowing across the water makes you feel cooler.

get a towel wet with cold water and but on your neck and even on your head....makes you feel a lot cooler

Try walking around nude with a spray bottle of water to keep yourself wet all over! However, that won't help your lungs to cool off from that super-heated air that they are having to suck in and out.

I feel so very lucky to not have to deal with that oppressive heat.

Global warming is just another term for climate change-----don't get me started on that subject, as my daughter's PhD is in that area of study, global-wide! She despises the term 'global warming' as so many people who are cooler than normal tend to refute any change whatsoever! Speak of 'Climate Change' and you will be safe, as that is what is happening to us, regardless of the reasons for it. And that is THAT!
