Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Monday, May 5

Wow, can you believe it. I’m opening Morning Coffee. Amazing!!! Not much going on here at my house. I’m still having trouble getting around with my hip problem. But this morning it was my dog Abby who had trouble. We went out for our first walk of the day. We were not more than about 3 minutes from home when she tripped on something and came up limping on her right front leg. I ended up carrying her home and put her in her bed. It’s been at least an hour now since then and she’s still holding her leg off the floor and just staying in her bed. Always something!!! Thankfully we have an appointment for her with the vet to go over her kidney disease this afternoon so we can have her leg checked.

Sue, thanks l for the suggestions on how to manage downstairs if I have hip replacement surgery. I could put a bed down there and there’s a bathroom. That’s all though. To get to the kitchen I’d have to figure out how to get up 7 stairs to the kitchen. Not sure how I’d do that though. Maybe I should start practicing now. With my health care system, if this does happen, it’s going to be quite a few months in the future. Hopefully if it happens I will have figured things out.

I still appreciate any and all suggestions.

Take care everyone,
Sandi

Was up at 7 am this morning, and headed to Sinclair gas station across the highway in Bryce. They work on motorhomes and I have had engine work done by them in the past. However, there was already a line of customers--two flat tires needed repairing, a car overheating, and a couple of other issues. Since it was snowing this morning here, their mechanics were late or not coming at all, so they sorted through and sent a couple of people to a place 20 minutes away. I told them I mainly wanted someone to check my air filter and replace it, so he told me to just wait. (I am Convinced that it got plugged in the New Mexico dust storms. At least that is a start. )

Anyway, I had to wait an hour, but they got a filter and replaced my old one with it. Took about 2 minutes to put it in. I paid only for the part, filled up with gas, and headed back to my campsite here to relax. Tomorrow is a long drive, but my reservation is here, and too hard to get another site part way to next stop. Had some breakfast and a tiny bit of lunch, so got to fill my water tanks now. Then I will take a nap!!! Still tired from my cold, but at least my cough is a lot better.

Snow was pretty this morning, but melted now. In any case, I'll bet their ATV and electric bike rentals were considerably down today!! High today is 46, and possible freezing overnight.

Sandi, because I had 13 stairs from outside up to my second floor condo, the hospital made me practice going up and down with my knee replacement before they would let me go home. How about adding a microwave and mini-refrig on that floor where your bed and bathroom are? And then getting someone to check on you and bring dinner, etc.

Afternoon Sandi and All, it’s 73 and rainy here but we need the rain. Nothing exciting going on in my area..

Sandi, don’t know what your future plans for your your home is. If you plan to stay in your present home, maybe you could consider a stairway lift or a small residential elevator. I make this suggestion because I lived in a two-story house and have friends who still do and they use these devices to help because they want to stay in their home. Something to think about good luck.

Hi Sandi.

Sorry to hear about Abby's leg injury. Hope it is nothing serious - please keep us posted.

Sorry, too, to hear about your hip problems. After the surgery, will you be walking or will you be in a wheelchair? Either way, I was thinking that (if there is room) you might be able to get someone to build you a sturdy, temporary ramp (with maybe handrails either side) so that you could get from your lower level up to your kitchen. I'm not sure if you meant seven steps or seven stairs. . . that could make a difference. If the ramp wasn't too steep, you might be able to carefully walk up it, or roll up it if you were using a chair.

Just a thought. . .

Keeping my fingers crossed for you, and hope that you (and Abby!) do well.

Please keep us posted.

Thanks, Sandi. We are all concerned about you.

Ps. I really like Shirl's suggestion of some kind of elevator.

A while back I was looking into a condo that had stairs (the condo didn't happen) so I also decided to look into a stair lift (because Joe is getting to the age where stairs would be difficult for him - plus I've got some mileage on me as well).

A nicely installed stair lift might prove useful even after you have recovered from the surgery.

Here are a couple photos that I found:

Apparently, there are also temporary/portable stair lifts that don't require permanent installation.

Good luck, Sandi.

Good afternoon. Been busy outside for a while this morning. Only hauled 3 bags of dirt as still needing to baby my back a bit. I took some Motrin/Tylenol after breakfast just in case. Then went to town, got my car washed and I vacuumed it out there even tho not much to vacuum. Not even alot of dog hair. Their vacuums are phenomenol. I even vacuumed out the dog bed and it tried to suck my seat covers off ha ha Came home and fixed a salad for lunch then realized I had some strawberries I needed to eat, so threw them in my personal blender with some half and half and a half of a banana and a little honey. Turned out pretty good. I am ready for tomato plants some geraniums and who knows what else I will find, so might go tomorrow morning. Then I need to check my watering system for leaks and I know when I removed one dead plant that I cut the line so will need to replace that. I have all the replacement drippers and lines so no big deal.

Sandi sorry about Abbys foot so sure hope it is nothing serious.

Last Thursday by the time I got on the road the rain had missed here and had already passed Lafayette. I could tell it had rained a lot because all the ditches were full. Traffic wasn’t too bad and I finally figured out how to use my phone as a GPS. It took me right to the campground with no problems. They always want to take local roads I don’t want to take but at least I didn’t have to hear recalculating every time I wouldn’t take the road it wanted me to. The campground was big with nice campsites. It is good for this time of year but not in the summer. No shade. It is across the road from a big casino/hotel. I never made it to the casino to even spend the $20 they give you. We had a meet and greet on the veranda by the pool. There were quite a few women I knew. A friend that use to live in Lafayette and had moved to Georgia was there. It was so nice to be able to camp with her again. I think there were more women from Texas than Louisiana. There were 36 of us. From 7 to 10 we had a Zydeco band play for us. Only a couple of women knew how to dance to cajun music but the band played some line dance music. Wish I could still dance but I’m doing good to walk. Friday was a free day. Some went on tours but I have seen most of the old plantation houses. Saturday most went to the Crawfish Festival in Breaux Bridge. I stayed at the campground. Not into festivals anymore. Saturday night we had gumbo and a campfire. Traffic was really light coming home. My upper arm hurts a lot when I have to hold the steering wheel a long time. I don’t see many long trips in my future.

Cheryl, sorry I missed you when you were in the area.

I would do ok in Europe with no ice because I seldom drink something cold. It hurts my teeth.

I never did pay much attention to what they thought was bad for us. I am going to drink coffee, eat eggs and bacon if I want to. I watched my cousin’s wife put the yoke from a dozen eggs in the sink so they could have scrambled egg whites. My cousin was younger that I am and he died about 10 years ago.

Karen, where do you get blackened salmon?

Sue, sorry your forests had so much damage. Several of our state parks had a lot of damage from hurricanes. There were so many trees gone I didn’t recognize one of them.

Sheila, the Catholic school here has a May Festival every year and the younger students did the May Pole dance. At least they did when my son was there.

Barbie, your trip sounded really nice.

We had an inch of rain while I was gone and I knew the power was out for a while because my cameras were off line. That messes up the central thermostat. It was 77 in the house but it wouldn’t be good in the summer. We are suppose to have 4 days of rain starting tonight. For once we need rain because my yard has cracks in it. Just hope it doesn't flood.

I know now why I should set an alarm... I have been really tired and a lot going on so I gave me today off no alarm shower scriptures and reclaim the kitchen... I woke up till about 10 and went potty and back to bed next thing I know it's 2 or shortly after... set out to achieve all that I intended to do ... didn't reclaim the kitchen added to the mess by making a pie... oh well there is always tomorrow!!!! and I finished my book ;) oh and gathered up the garbage my nephew stopped by to take the bin down to the street too full so what I had gathered up today will have to wait... they should leave the garbage bin for me to fill with household garbage not clean out don't need this garbage...
guess tomorrow I need to vacuum been going to make broccoli/cheddar cheese soup hopefully that will happen tomorrow...
it rained quite a bit today even turned into snow probably not what Judy got down there... thought it was chilly went and looked at the thermostat and it was turned off dang so turned it up to where it's comfortable for me feels much better...
Martha I remember driving in Wyo probably in the car relying on the GPS and it telling me to turn right right now the only road I saw was a dirt ranch road I didn't turn or in Vegas it often wanted me to turn left no left turns off the freeway at least where I needed to be...
Sandi I was going to suggest a lift system as well are you on three levels??? as to the ramp there are guidelines to follow so you have a correct slant.... it may be that a hand rails will help from that level to another ... although the mini kitchen sounds good... does your area have meals on wheels? might help with meals... but again it may be months away perhaps going to PT will help or shots can't think of the name of them might help... thoughts are with you
Karen that drink really sounds good...
you all have a great day

Good Morning, Itis still cool and o’cast here. Sunday my daughter went to the ER in excruciating pain in her “phantom leg”. It’s been five years since the amputation. I was surprised one could get phantom p sin that long after am amputation.
Sandie, that is a shame about your dogs leg. I hope she gets feeling better. Your hip sounds painful too. PT has good suggestions on getting around after hip replacement.
You might also investigate a Home Health aid for a week or so after the surgery.
I get a tinge of envy whenever I see an RV going down the road!
