Another Rainy Dsy

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Another Rainy Dsy

Postby Colliemom » Wed Nov 20, 2024 8:16 am

Morning from the damp 45th. 45° and cloudy. Rain moving in later. Biggest thing is, supposed to change to snow late. Very wet. How much is uncertain due to temps and position of the low coming through. Will know better tonight. Yesterday was plain miserable. Rain, Windy and dark all day. Seemed to get darker as the day progressed. By 4 ish, it was like twilight.

Anne, you certainly were busy doing all the calculations. Did rain ever appear? Good idea to be prepared. We never know when we might have to move fast in these days of climate change. Watching the Weather Channel showing the satellite view of the “bomb cyclone” hitting the west.

Ann, hope the medication changes for Bill help.

Haircut and another Chiro appt this morning, couple other stops planned while in town and then home for rest of day. Hope you all have a good day and stay safe out there.

Good morning. What a wild night here with the wind. Way more wind than rain altho it continued to rain sideways most of the evening. LOTS of accidents all over the place. Several of the main highways leaving town are closed due to downed power lines and trees. Trees down on most of the highways going out of Roseburg to the mountains or to the coast. Mostly fender benders with a couple of rollovers. Lots of power outages mostly due to downed trees. I had my generator ready to go but never even got a flicker so that was good. I had to retrieve a couple of things that blew off my back deck. This morning it is lightly raining but absolutely no wind.....weird. At least yet, may be more to come who knows. We have more wild weather coming tomorrow but think it is more of a rain event than the high winds.
Judy, good thing your appts were not this week. Interstate 5 southbound is closed at milepost 11 in Ashland for the Siskiyous due to extreme weather conditions in northern California. This will be a long term closure they say. They got tons of snow between the Siskiyous and Mt Shasta City. I know you would not be driving in these conditions, me either. Not even in my car.

Today is Bunco day. I only have to go to the gals house in the next block....big trip hah We are not playing Bunco in December due to the holidays and everyone being so busy. (not me) we will resume in January. Not much else going on here today. Pretty soon will be breakfast and a shower and will change my bed linens. That is my project for today  Will try to get caught up on a couple of my recorded shows today.

No rain around here, but freezing cold. 49* probably doesn’t sound cold to many of you, but I am very cold!
Drove up to Temecula Sunday for lunch with my daughter in law, her daughter, my two daughters and and me.
Wineries are all along a beautiful road. We had a very nice lunch.
My trailer has an electric fireplace which looks like it is burning blue and orange flames! I thought it was silly, having a “fireplace” in a travel trailer, but I now love it. It is quite pretty.
Tomorrow I visit my cardiologist. He only wants to see me once a year! Guess that’s good!?!?!?

That sounds good to me, Lyn. Karen, high winds here today and day before yesterday. They called enough yesterday for SpaceX to launch after canceling the previse day. Lyn, I purchased a freestanding fireplace for my casita a couple years ago. It gives heat and I like looking at it. Of course if I'm only there summers, it just sits in the closet. Sue, it looks like Oregon is getting the snow you want. Hopefully some will come your way. I'm thinking it might be time for a very short hair cut. It's been several years and time for something new (or I guess old lol). I'll think about it. But I need a haircut whatever I decide.

Good morning Sue and all who follow. I went to be at about 1:00 last night, no rain all evening up to bedtime. Up this morning about 7:00, just very light rain so far. Which is a good thing! I need to go check out some satellite images you ae talking about, as of last night the "bomb cyclone" was whirling around south of Vancouver Island, with "arms" pushing into Washington and Oregon.

Judy, good thing your appts were not this week. Interstate 5 southbound is closed at milepost 11 in Ashland for the Siskiyous due to extreme weather conditions in northern California. Good grief, Karen! That sounds terrible! I have travelled up Interstate 5 many times past Mt. Shasta City - to think of this area being affected by a "long term closure" is pretty alarming!

For those who don't know, Interstate 5 is the major (and some might say only) direct route between California and Oregon. Most all commerce - think trucking of goods, food, mail distribution, general travel, the works - goes right by Mt. Shasta (both the volcano, and the city that it is named for). To have Interstate 5 closed for even a short time is a major event. And I'm reading that this storm could go on for several days - so we are talking about a possible days-long disruption in interstate commerce. The traffic backup will be intense.

Judy, I'm really glad you got by this mess before it started!

My trailer has an electric fireplace which looks like it is burning blue and orange flames! I thought it was silly, having a “fireplace” in a travel trailer, but I now love it. It is quite pretty.

Lyn, I bought a small electric fireplace late last year that looks like a woodstove, and is also very pretty. The flames it has look almost real, and I do enjoy looking at it when I am "in a mood". Happy to know you are enjoying yours!

Stay safe, everyone!

Please let us know about the weather in your neck of the woods.

Anne, you are right about being stuck in Eugene! You have mountains to the east and the south that make travel very iffy in bad weather because of the snow. They do have lots of traffic cams, but I also am very glad I got out of Oregon when I did.

Finally started raining hard here in Napa early this morning and expect hard rain all day next two or three days. I had a telephone appt with my oncologist this morning and he confirmed my lung nodule I have had for 6 years has not changed, and nothing else in my lungs, plus I passed my pulmonary tests. I could get infusions to improve my immune system, but he said they usually do not order these unless someone is getting sick often. He said I have likely had this low immunity for a long time, and mainly to just let a doctor know if I do get really sick with something like pneumonia or another infection so they can treat it then with infusions. Other than sinus drainage and this cough, I have really not had COVID or flu or even a bad cold for several years, so I will just take a few precautions. Getting dental cleaning tomorrow so will just do my usual 4 antibiotic pills ahead of time.

And after watching people walking their dogs in this heavy rain, I am REALLY glad I do not have a dog right now!! Got a bunch of stuff that needs to be taken to trash can that is only about 30 feet away, but waiting for a break in rain, which will probably not come soon.

Oh my, JUDY!!

I just now found this current video of what is happening with the snow in Weed, Ca. (you passed right by Weed when you were going south on Interstate 5).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rq4lvFlzzO8

This looks TERRIBLE!!! The snow looks to be two or three feet deep, and Interstate 5 is unplowed!! Judy, you really got lucky! LOL, that and pre-planning and absolutely knowing what you are doing!!

So glad you aren't stuck in this disaster!

Anne the odd part about the snowfall is that Mt Shasta city is always way worse than the Siskiyous. I never feared the Siskiyous when in my car (AWD) but Weed and Mt Shasta City can be very dicey even with the AWD. Living here in Roseburg I only have 3 directions instead of 4 with mountain passes. I can go north no problem.

We have pouring down rain right now, started about 2pm when we were playing Bunco. No realwind so far. I came home at around 4pm then went to Costco. I was in and out for $45 that is a record for me but I only needed a few things so stuck to my list. Well except for the jar of M&M's. A few of those satisfy my sweet tooth most of the time, There was hardly anyone there so it was a quickie trip.

Now Emma and I had roasted chicken for dinner. Made some instant mashed potatoes and now I am full. Time to just kick back and relax.

Karen, interesting info. I have never been up around Shasta when a heavy storm is predicted (LOL, I'm too chicken), but I did drive to Klamath Falls once and hit light snowfall a few miles north of Weed on Highway 97.

Beautiful country there.

If I had been stuck in that snow, I would have found myself a cozy spot between a couple of those big trucks and pulled in there for as long as it took for the snow to melt!!!

One thing I did learn from my almost-year I spent in Oregon and Washington, was to always do that stretch of I-5 between noon and 2 pm, when it was the warmest part of the day. (Remember that I spent Nov-February in Eugene in 2018-19 getting infusions of a monoclonal antibody and ramping up my doses of a targeted CLL drug.) I then had to stop by the clinic once a month to get blood tests and a new bottle of very expensive pills, so I have driven that stretch several times.)

For more views, go to https://tripcheck.com/DynamicReports/Report/Cameras/7 and click on "Southwest" on the left column, and then on I-5 and choose Ashland or Medford or any of the others. Not fun. If you can only see dark photos, click on last daylight view. (You might have to scroll down a tiny bit to find this link.)

It was 70 today but very windy so felt colder. I really didn't want to walk but did so Luna could get some exercise too. I really need to find some new tennis shoes. My favorite walking shoes were Nike leather but the last time I looked for some they weren't making leather ones. Maybe I can make it to Shoe Station in Lafayette tomorrow.

weather wise here it's oh hum!!! some wind but not bad... no rain or snow but may get a small amount sometime... maybe... just looked at the weather app and that small chance disappeared :? next chance is midnight on Friday and it's only 35 percent chance not really a good chance of snow when it's up in the 80 or more then I will actually believe that it may happen :? although reading the 10 report does worry me not that I've read it recently looked and Weds is 60 percent Thurs down to 40 percent we will hope just cause of that pass...
Karen that wind sounds like it was wicked... I don't like wind especially when I was in the RV but even a house makes me shudder...
Judy you did get out of "Dodge" at the right time... hopefully you don't need to go north anytime soon...
Anne we will hope for a bit more than a sprinkle but not the 12 inches predicted I may have not remembered that amount correctly
Lyn before we got the 5th wheel my husband wanted to put in a fire place so we got one had it in the house for a bit then realized that it was electrical making it hard when boondocking... so after we got the 5th wheel he found a propane run fireplace so he installed that under the tv (I can't remember the term but it worked for what we needed) not only was it neat to look at but it heated the trailer rarely used the furnace then it quite I so missed that heat because as we know the furnace uses electric for the fan so I got a little buddy and used it off a big propane tank .... the small ones that you pick up at Walmart just weren't cost effective
didn't do a lot other than stay awake while reading scriptures... I had a hard time going to sleep last night.... about 12:45 mom was wonder if we were going to eat.... so gave her halve a muffin she did eat well today
Beth you will have to post a picture of your new do'
I hate it Martha when I have a favorite and then you can't find it any more .. :(
you all have a great day
