Beautiful Monday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Beautiful Monday

Postby Shirlv » Mon Nov 18, 2024 1:10 pm

Afternoon All, we desperately need rain. At 88 I am loosing my filters. When on the internet what you post can be taken wrong. I have fretted all day about my post for Judy. It was meant to be a compliment. I would have been terrified to cross mountains anytime anywhere. Going to eat chocolate. Be safe

Shirl, I did not like driving through the mountains at all. The first time I was in a motorhome that didn't have enough power for mountains. The second trip, after going through the Rockies to Seattle I decided to go South on I-5 through California hoping it would be better. I think it was.

It is gray this morning but our rain isn't suppose to get here until about 4:00. I need to put my tennis shoes on and go walk. I didn't walk yesterday. I was too tired after washing the motorhome.

The RV shop called this morning but my refrigerator is working this morning. He doesn't know why it would be switching between battery and electric. I will leave it plugged in this week and see what it does.

I’m surprised google hasn’t shut down my IPad since I am always asking why.

Martha, I ask why your fridge was switching and it said low battery lr
Level. Google why and there were more reasons

I drove my 26’ class c up and down White Mountain in Vermont. I didn’t check but probably had red up to my biseps. Lol

Thanks, Shirl. I was thinking about going by Auto Zone and getting them to check them. I looked up the receipt and the coach batteries were bought in January, 2021. They are the sealed batteries that are almost $300 each. The coach shows that they have a full charge but they may not be holding a charge.

Cold and rainy this morning 35/46 ugh Rain predicted as rain or showers for the next 10 days. Dont see any sunshine in our future. Oh well. At least we dont have to shovel it. I was going to make a little trip down to Medford area but that will have to wait. Too many idiots not able to drive safely in the rain. We have already had multiple accidents, mostly spinouts and a couple rollovers due to the standing water on the roads. Luckily no major injuries yet.

Judy, glad your trip was basically uneventful. I guess I didnt mind the passes so much. When I lived in Talent it did not matter which way I went there were passes to go over. So made alot of trips all directions with passes. Guess I got used to them. I always tried to avoid the snow tho, driving a big Class A and towing my SUV I was never inclined to do "snow".
Shirl, I dont think you said anything wrong and I doubt Judy would either. I know sometimes what we say isnt interpreted with the meanings we want but since we all seem to know each other pretty well we tend to lean to the positive side. That is why I like this group. There is no ugliness amongst us. We are a supportive and compassionate group. Shirl. Google is also my friend ALL the time. They haven't shut me down yet. Siri is good too if I am too lazy to type.

Got a few things done this morning. My handyman neighbor Steve stopped by to give me a $25 gift certificate to Amazon that they gave him at the casino when he and his wife went to the coast. I tried to refuse it but he said "NO it was free and you help with lots of things." Mostly Amazon and computer or tv stuff ha ha He also needs a ride to the brake shop for his truck in the morning at 8am and he knows I am always up. Will also take him back when it is ready. He gave me a ride at 6:30am to my cataract surgery appt so favors are a nice thing to do for each other. Especially since we are both early risers. If I need a job or help here I pay him for the job that is different.

Found a tasty looking pasta recipe I am going to try, Mushroom, parmesan cheese sauce over cheese ravioli. Sounds really good to me. But I am not a huge meat eater so salads, pastas, seafoods are my favorites. Saw another recipe for apple walnut pie I want to make. I really need to stay off the recipe pages!!!!!

Shirl, I did not take it wrong, and frankly, I tend to always assume that people mean things positively. I only drove 190 miles today, but I tried not to grip the darn steering wheel so hard this time. Thumbs are still sore from other drive, but not so bad today. Those mountains in southern Oregon and northern California are really not even very high, but the problem is that in the fall and winter, it rains constantly. And while it has been around 40 in the lower elevations, it can easily snow at 2,500 to 4,000' which is nothing for the Rockies. Thankfully, the tallest mountains I have driven over have nearly always been dry.

And I-5 over those mountains is really an excellent road, but I just don't like it when you add even a little bit of snow. Plus, they had several signs "suggesting" you use chains--not exactly required, but it does make you think. Like, at age 81, and being only 5' tall, I am going to pull over and somehow put chains on my motorhome???? Not likely, so if I run into snow, I will do a u-turn or take the nearest exit, no matter where it goes!!

Anyway, every once in a while I cannot sleep at night. I went to bed at midnight and lay there until 6 pm, when I decided I might as well drive as just lay there, so as soon as it got partly dark, I got up and on the road. I don't know what my problem was, but I did sleep in the day before, but I am worn out right now. I am going to eat something and go to bed.

Goodnight all!!

I hope mom's constipation issue is over she has gone several times so didn't give her a gentle stool softener tonight... she was so sound asleep that I ended up going to the activity without her even then she slept till late in the afternoon... wonder if she will sleep tonight??? hope so
but no signs of confusion today so guess it was related to being constipated...
I think I grabbed a short nap while listening to one of the podcasts that I usually listen to... will have to try again...
was frustrated on of the chores that "the kid downstairs" is suppose to do is take the garbage down to the street..I discovered last week that he had forgotten to do so for it to be as full as it is that wasn't the first time so I told him to make sure it went down this week .. when I realized that he was gone I looked out and nope it wasn't move out to the street plus we had snow and a very full garbage can. Hopefully niece will come in the am and take care of it... he did call and apologize I was going to make hamburger stroganhoff cooked the meat went to get the soup and all I could find was chicken gumbo or nacho cheese... so had sloppy joes... wasn't what I was wanting but the thing was I went to put the mushrooms away and found the soup... forgot where I put I guess.... guess that is what being frustrated got me  oh well needed to use up the buns anyway...
maybe tomorrow will be a better day
you all have a great day

Judy, um. . .Northern California mountains. . . "are really not even very high." (?)

Well. . .(feeling a bit contrary/ornery tonight, I guess   ). . . Mt. Shasta (volcano), which you drove past as you were tooling south on Interstate 5 from Oregon (although, admittedly, you didn't drive over her, just around her) stands at the positively towering elevation of 14,179 ft., being the second-tallest peak in the entire Cascade range. She is so tall, and gets so much snow, that permanent glaciers grace her peaks (yes, she has more than one).

Shasta is edged out only slightly for the "tallest" Cascade peak title, by mighty Mt. Rainier (also a volcano), that stands at 14,411 ft., near Seattle, in Washington state. Only 232 feet in difference between the two.

I don't get up Mt. Shasta way very often, but when I do I always find her heart-stoppingly beautiful. And the sheer massive size of her always takes my breath away. Every. Single. Time.

Haven't been up there since before the Pandemic. I think my eyes are getting hungry to see her again.

Soon.

I was really referring to the roads through the mountains and over the passes. Should have made that clearer. The campground I stayed at for two weeks near Frisco, CO, was at 9,200' . I kept wishing i had had my mother's old oxygen concentrator! That month I drove over several passes over 11,000' and a couple over 12,000'

By the way, could only see a bit of the bottom of Shasta on Saturday. The top was covered with snow, which caused heavy fog that mostly covered the mountain up.

Well, Judy, that is some heavy alpine driving, for sure. Not at all sure that I would like to take on that kind of high mountain pass. Now that I think about it - that's pretty much a big nope for me!

Sorry you were unable to see Shasta in all of her glory. But I'm thinking you might have seen her in the past, on a clearer day.
