Veterans Day 11/11

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Veterans Day 11/11

Postby Colliemom » Mon Nov 11, 2024 9:18 am

Good Morning. Thank you to all the Veterans for your sacrifice and service, especially those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Without you we wouldn’t be where we are today.

Cloudy, 46 degrees with a cold front coming through. Gusty winds and temps falling into 30’s by late afternoon. Definitely an inside day except for dog walk later. Thry don’t mind the weather.

Bit of housecleaning on agenda this morning, not sure about rest of day. Need to put out the trash and move the finished sign to the garage. Thanks for all the compliments. Even I have to admit it turned out beautifully. Time to turn my attention to that Diamond Painting I finished and get that checked over, sealed and framed. Then on to another DP project. Need to peel, cut up and get couple of butternut squash cooked today too.

Tried the meatloaf in Teheran muffin tin the other night. Turned out great, but dealing with the fat juices in the muffin cups is another thing. You can pout it out of six cups Into a container easy. So don’t know if I will try that again. Might get sone small loaf pans and go that way so I can empty them into my grease jar one by one or go back to my bigger loaf pan. Karen, what do you do to empty your muffin tin?

Gotta get moving here, so have a great day all.

Good morning on this rainy Veterans Day. I thought about going to the parade downtown but have quickly changed my mind. Hope we still have the fly over tho but not too sure it will happen.
Both my parents were veterans. My Dad the Canadian Army, my Mom the Canadian Navy. Also several other relatives served. Proud of all our servicemen and women.

It will be an inside day today for sure. Rain is expected for the rest of the week. I dont really care as I dont have anywhere I have go except tomorrow have to get my labs drawn (finally) and an eye doc appt. So nothing that requires outside activity. Think I will just continue on my Fall cleaning. I have some papers and files to sort in my file cabinet and get rid of some of the instruction booklets I have on the dumbest stuff. I like to keep those generally but some are pretty self explanatory so not really needed. I also save some silly stuff, like a stack of printed recipes.........why???? I always go to my online recipe folder anyway. Just some fiddly stuff that needs gone to help the cause of organization!!! Also need to go thru my sweaters and get rid of a few of those and a few other things that I never wear.

Just had some breakfast so time to get busy

I'm having fun, not, figuring out what I'm making for Thanksgiving. I've finally decided. This morning on our walk Ty and I were visiting with 3 of the people I'll be having the meal with. After ruling out things others are bringing when I mentioned no salads so far, I can whip up some great salads. None of them really wanted salad lol. So I said some kind of casserole. That went over ok. But when I mentioned it might have nuts on top, two said they wouldn't eat nuts. Ok. I'm not asking anymore. But I think I'm going to make mac and cheese. I usually add hot sauce and I still might, but on a small scale and with breadcrumbs and bacon bits on top. I promise I'll eat any leftovers lol

I got my leftover project from yesterday started but got interrupted so now that'll probably be finished tomorrow. I did clean out the cabinet with my pots etc to make sure I have a good pan for the dish. I haven't been cooking enough to be using them. All's good. I might get a couple disposable pans though and not put any hot sauce in one. Might.

The weather for the coming 10 days looks wonderful except the few not cooking off enough, I'm surprised to see those. It'll be interesting to see what winter brings this year.

Just a warning about fountains in ponds--our condo association had two floating fountains in each of our two ponds to cut down algae. Each on was on a small platform made of foam, about 15" x 15". The problem was that the ducks used to sit on the fountain platforms to do their feather preening, and if too many ducks were sitting on one side, they would tip the fountain over. Then the water would be directed downward and the fountain motors would burn out! I cannot tell you how many fountain motors we had to replace because of the darn ducks!!

Another chilly and damp day in southern Oregon. I slept in again because I was up too late, but got busy with making a couple of phone calls regarding products I had bought, and then finished editing the first of my 5-ppage documents for the first disk I viewed. Found a lot of spelling and other errors because I had been typing and starting and stopping video. I will start the second disk later tonight, but i need to get to bed earlier!

I'm a bit worried about my drive north on Thursday through the mountains on I-5. I am hoping there is no snow because I do not want to use chains or drive on slippery pavement. I have to be in Eugene by 5 pm for my lung function test, and cannot miss it. Not below zero here or there, but might be some in mountains, so am hoping it will not be raining and that temps during daytime are going to be OK.

Good evening. Kind of a rainy off and on day but not bad at all. I managed to see the "flyover" not once but twice. They flew north over my house then came back a few minutes later and flew south to the VA cemetary. I guess they were a few minutes early ha ha They are awesome tho. They came from Kingsley field in Klamath Falls. They do this a couple times a year.
I didnt get too much accomplished today, not even sure why hah Tomorrow is my eye doc appt at 8am so will have that over early which is always good. Less time for them to get behind if I am the first appt. The good news is this weekend is going to be SUNNY YAY

Judy, I am confused, where are you crossing over from the coast??? and you are going "north on I-5" ??? I dont really know where you are but I would take 126 from Florence to Eugene. No major passes there so you wouldnt encounter any snow. I think the only snow will be at the higher elevations in the Cascades not the coast range. There also isnt snow expected on the 4 passes from southern Oregon if that is where you are....see I am confused but either way you will be fine.

Beth never ever ask what you should bring ha ha ha just bring what YOU want to eat. LOL and if nobody eats it bring it home!!!

About all I did today was wash a load of jeans and dark shirts. I didn't get to deliver my cake because it's going to the tax assessor and the court house was closed. I'll bring it in the morning and get the groceries I need for the weekend. No one has said anything about a potluck but I'm sure we will have one. I need to cut up some of the boards from the walk way I took down to bring for firewood. I think it's suppose to rain a lot on Wednesday but be clear the rest of the week.

I don't know what I'll do for Thanksgiving. I know my ex-sil will invite me for her dinner which will probably be on the weekend. I talked to my sister and they are going. She lives about 100 miles from me and I doubt I will go because of the drive. I have to bring my dog if I go anywhere. I did buy one of the small Butterball turkey roasts.

I had to buy buttermilk for my cake so need to make something else to use the buttermilk. One of my favorite pies is a buttermilk pie. It's like a custard pie, a lot of butter and sugar. I should make one to take camping. Karen, I like your idea to bring what I want to eat.

Haha, Karen, that's why I decided on the mac and cheese. Salad or veggies would be better for my waistline, but I do like mac and cheese and if they don't I won't mind eating it for several days. I've never tried freezing it but if there's that much left I might. I don't eat turkey or pumpkin pie, but I'll be good with the dressing, deviled eggs and other things that'll be there.

I did what I intended too .... almost.... made the big mistake of opening up fb to see if brother had messenger me on FB he had asked a question and I replied so kept wondering if he had replied back so then if I'm on FB I will look right that is where I goofed and hours later the floors are vacuumed and supper isn't started... oh well what can I say it's done... or not done depending upon the perspective. one of the recipes I watched was from Natasha a pear salad looked so good but her recipes always look good...
Monday's the "kid downstairs" usually leaves about 3 or so to go to his home in Idaho after he washes his clothes and puts them in the dryer... today he washed his bedding sheets, and blanket so he was still here at supper time Mondays I usually use up leftovers were there aren't much left I'd planned on using up the 2 hot dogs but now there are three and it was later than I should have started but there was 1 piece of fish from the other night that mom didn't eat so she had the fish and we had the hot dogs... I'm beginning to wonder if he doesn't like chips or if it's the chips I have on hand the boring type light salt   Lays I'm not too much into the flavored chips especially as long as it takes us to go through a bag... now if elsewhere I will eat some flavored ones
I finished the one hat and put the flower on it... looks good hopefully someone will like it...
need to finish up the flowers for the baby hat if I don't hurry she may outgrow it
I don't know what we will do for Thanksgiving the past few years been going over to dd#2 but they are the ones that are madly finishing their house so don't know what they plan on doing as she hasn't said yet... guess I need to reach out to her...
called my youngest brother today but he was at work and with boss so just asked if it had to do with "Mother" he is the only one that calls her mother... he still hasn't called back... I just wanted to see if he physically can replace the bathroom faucet he has had a knee replaced as well as a shoulder that is the one that concerns me it's a small space and he is a big boy but of my brother's he is the closer
you all have a great day
