Rainy Subday, 11/10

Morning all. Light rain this morning at o’ dark thirty. That’s fine. Just add to the total for the month. Was a beautiful upper 50’s day yesterday. Great day for a long walk with the dogs. NWS said we are two weeks past our official historical date for first accumulating snow, which is October 26th. None in sight either. But long as we keep getting a rainy day here and there, that’s fine. Looks like highs in the mid 40’s/low 50’s for most of this week.

Sign project is done. Will post pics in General Talk. Now to put it out in garage till installation time, whenever that will be. I’ve done my part, up to neighbor now. Glad I moved the frame into the garage with the rainy weather we are having. Keeps it nice and clean and dry.

Beth, that roof over looks fantastic. The whole combination of trailer, steps and roof are beautiful. Definitely made a great decision there. And the new carpeting inside is great too. Love the pattern layout. He did a nice job. Whole inside looks really cozy.

Judy, great idea to have movies put on DVD’s. Film doesn’t last many years. This way it’s all preserved. Sounds like you had an enjoyable time watching them and looking back on those years.

O’Sharon, glad to hear you got leaves issue taken care of. I’ve got mine done too but there will always be some out here blowing around from the woods and wherever. Like you, my snowblower is sitting here ready to go.

Irmi, did you get the power washing done? Martha, nice that your neighbor moved the pile of dirt for you. Had to laugh when you said you were going to be playing in the dirt. Love how you worded that. Hopefully it will be a bit dried out when you are ready to spread it.

So, I’d better get moving here. Need to have my morning fruit and get dressed and head for church. My group is hosting coffee and donuts after 9:00 mass this month, so we get there early and get things ready for after mass. Have a nice day.

Good morning Sue. We also have 46 and light rain. Think we are in for a bout of rain showers for the next week or so. We always need it so no complaining here. Have a couple inside projects to get busy on and the garden is cleaned out so no excuses now. I need to go to Walmart this morning so will definitely go early and beat the crowds ha ha it is a very busy Walmart and I rarely go there but they have what I want so have to bite the bullet.

Going to make an omelet this morning but will wait until I get back from the store. Laundry on my list this morning and will cruise a few more reel recipes. Saw a couple easy ones I want to try so maybe this week.

Yesterday I did the Jose Cuervo Tequila Train ride tour to Tequila and the blue agave fields and distillery. Very educational and ever so much fun..the Spanish know how to party. Enjoy your day. Peggy

It was 66 when I got up this morning. TY and I had a great walk. I have myself 3 projects for today. 2 are completed and I think the 3rd will happen tomorrow. Yeti I'm lazy.

Peggy, I've had a couple train rides I've always wanted to take in Mexico. I'm glad you got the one done. Enjoy your winter.

I've been invited to join a small group of people here (about 10 of them) for Thanksgiving. I accepted but need to find out what is still needed so I bring the right thing.

Good afternoon gals,

I think I have a slight cold coming on. My throat was a bit sore this morning and my head is stuffed up. I ordered a new jar of Manuka Honey today. Will get that tomorrow so that should help some.

Yesterday evening, David and Julie picked me up and we went out for dinner at a burger place near me. From there we went to the Japanese Garden for their Floating Lantern ceremony. It was very nice and peaceful there. The path to the pond was a bit bumpy and dark for David with his walker but we made it. Julie and I each wrote a prayer on the sides of the lantern and then the candle was lit. We found a place to put it in the pond. Was very pretty with all the lit lanterns floating around in there. Julie and I are going back in a week or so during the day for their Ikebana Festival. Ikebana is an ancient form of Japanese flower arranging. It is very simple arrangement but elegant looking. I have wanted to learn more about it so am also taking a class there in a couple weeks to learn how to make them. The containers used for Ikebana are also very unique. The look of these arrangements is very similar to contemporary arrangements which are also pretty simple and asymmetrical with unique containers. The festival will have many of the Ikebana arrangements set up throughout the garden areas. Should be very pretty!

I missed church this morning. I was really tired last night and went to bed around 10pm and didn't wake up until almost 11am this morning! I had planned to go hiking at Sabino Canyon after church but since I am not feeling too spunky, I will probably just do laundry today and get some reading done.

I want to make a small boat from a gourd for David for Christmas and need to get busy on that project! I have a couple of gourds I bought in CA that should be the right shape and size to make a boat from. I will need to cut it lengthwise and then add a deck and seats in it. I got a small outboard motor tree ornament from Amazon that I can (hopefully) attach to the back of the "boat". I hope it comes out decent. He has a classic wooden boat in his garage that he restored years ago, as well as an antique outboard motor on it, that he also restored. It is his pride and joy. I want to make this look as close as possible to that boat, which will be a challenge. But if it turns out fairly close, I am sure he will love it. I have never seen a gourd boat before, so I have nothing to go on but my creative instincts.

I forgot who mentioned making the apple pie/cake, but I bet it would be great with peaches and be like a peach cobbler!

As far as cleaning up leaves, my dad would rake up and bag all his leaves. He had a large yard and lots of oak trees, and the neighbors leaves also blew onto his lot since his property was lower than theirs on both sides, so they all just collected in his back yard! He would put all the bags (usually around 80+ ) along the street and the city would come by to collect them all. When he got older, there was a program for local seniors, where the school kids from different classes and ages (as well as the teacher and some parents) would come by on the Saturday before Halloween to rake yards and bag up the leaves. He just had to provide bags, beverages, and goodies for them. He really looked forward to that every year! The kids had a blast raking up big piles and jumping in them. They still managed to get the whole yard raked, front and back, in a few hours! I was always there helping out too.

I got my bird bath set up yesterday and the solar fountain too. It looks nice but so far the cats aren't too impressed. Maybe if some birds start coming by, they will pay more attention.

Next Thursday, David's caregiver, Terry, is having a wine-tasting party, so we are all 3 going to that. I will figure out some snacky thing to bring with. I don't drink wine much so I will bring some Baileys and Egg Nog instead. It is kind of an early Christmas themed party so that should fit right in! I discovered that combination last Christmas and it is really good!

Beth, have you ever been to Chiricahua National Monument? It looks like it isn't too far from your Benson place. Looks like a very cool place to visit!

Barbie, Chiricahua NM is one of my favorite places. I workamped there for a couple months and hiked every trail. One I wouldn't do alone so got a friend to come hike it with me. I don't know that I could do that trail again but it's one of my favorite hikes so I'm glad to have the memories. Chiricahua is a magical place.

Peggy, I went to a business conference in Guadalajara about 20 years ago and loved it! Make sure you spend at least part of a day at Tlaquepaque, which is a small town and an artist colony just south of downtown. And when you are there, you need to eat lunch or dinner at the famous Restaurant Sin Nombre, or Restaurant with No Name in Tlaquepaque. Not expensive, but famous for their food and the atmosphere. It is partly outside dining, and when i was there, the entertainment was provided by a pea hen and her chick, who she was feeding by stealing scraps from tables before they were cleared! (I suspect waiters waited a bit to let her pick lettuce and such from plates after people left.) Also a small flock of tiny Bantam chicks and their mom were wandering around under our tables! Spent about 6 hours yesterday, but finished annotating the first disk of two hours of film. I was old enough in 1948 to remember a lot of the things shown, but some I had forgotten, like my brother's birthday with us sitting on the cement boat house dock eating birthday cake, when the neighbor's dog came up and ate most of it! I need to edit it for spelling and grammar, and then will start on the next disk tonight.

I'm about 80 miles south of you, Karen, and no rain here yet. Was even sunny this morning, but is cloudy now. Expect rain will get here tomorrow.

Oh, and in the days before people were worried about air pollution, we used to rack leaves to the edge of the dirt road in front of our house and burn them.

Another warm day, it was 85 with a few showers off and on. I made a Coca Cola Chocolate Cake this afternoon and it took me all afternoon. It's for the dessert of the month. I will deliver it in the morning and be done with that for a year.

Peggy, the Tequila Train sounds like fun.

Barbie, I think it was Sheila and I that were talking about the apple cake. I think it would be better with peaches or cherries. You make the cake batter and spread the pie filling over it and bake. The cake rises over the filling. Hope your boat for your brother turns out good. I went to a wooden boat festival years ago North of New Orleans . The guys that have a wooden boat love them.

I forgot I have an eye doctor appointment on Wednesday when I made reservations for the camp ground. My appointment is at 1:00 and I know he will dilate my eyes.
