FRIDAY 11/8

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

FRIDAY 11/8

Postby OregonLuvr » Fri Nov 08, 2024 9:44 am

Good chilly and foggy morning here. 36/62 The fog didnt clear until after 11am yesterday and then we had sun in the afternoon. Great day. I was busy yesterday running some errands. Took Emma to the groomer then while she was getting beautiful I went to the grocery store. Only needed a few things so not too bad a trip hah Today will be some paperwork (trying to stay up on it) and maybe go get my labs drawn. No doc visit until May but she did want some labs. Seems like when you get older they want to keep looking for something. I dont mind the labs tho, and feeling just fine so no issues I hope. Garbage comes today so need to get my trash to the curb pretty soon even tho they dont come until well after 10.

Beth I love your cozy little home. Your carpet turned out really good, I love it. The couch looks like it fits just perfect there. Sheila when I make that cake I am very careful not to over bake it as that will definitely dry it out. The spice, apple, walnut cake is always very moist and a favorite of mine. I buy a can of the cream cheese frosting and zap it in the micro for about 10 seconds then add some Maple extract, stir it well and it complements it just perfectly. I am going to try the blueberry lemon one soon. Going to have BBQ chicken thighs tonight. Will do them in the oven as I have my grill all buttoned up for winter. Then will do some roasted veggies while I have the oven on to have with it.

I have a few things on my "to do" list for today. But nothing heavy duty. I just like to have at least one project each day but usually turns into several.

Good afternoon. I’ve had a crazy afternoon, my yard guy called this morning and said he would come this afternoon to take care of these pesky leaves. Despite the very strong wind he managed to rake up enough to take about one and three quarters of a 16 foot trailer so 2 trips out to the dump. Glad it’s as close as it is! He finally had to give up since my driveway is a wind tunnel when we get these kinds of winds. So tomorrow I think I’ll mow the back for the last time and use the bagger that I seldom use!
And maybe bag up some of the stray leaves in the flower beds. He will Come back some day next week to “dress it up” as he says. Even with I do tomorrow there’s still plenty more leaves for him to take away. Next year I won’t wait so long to call him and not wait on my kids! I’m going to have him do some other work for me too. We talked a bit about what to do out front and I think I’ve about decided on river rock out front instead of mulch since mulch requires care at least every couple of years. And I’m looking for less work! Buddy wasn’t happy that he had to stay inside but I can’t trust him yet to not go out the gate. Sorry Buddy!
Beth, I really like your carpet and the whole inside of your trailer. It’s really homey. And looks like Ty likes it all too! Judy, I’m thinking CW just wants more money from you by saying your roof is bad. Martha, looks like from the last report I saw the hurricane is taking a turn away from the US although there’s still going to be some rain. But hope it doesn’t dump much on you. I’ve been talking to my sister out in Denver area and they’re getting quite a lot of snow. Looks like south of her is worst but last night she said they have already gotten several inches. Wonder what kind of winter we’ll end up having! The snowblower is in the front of the garage all ready to go! And here I am talking about mowing my yard tomorrow! Kind of crazy! I think I need to start getting some dinner prepped and start thinking about feeding Buddy soon. Tonight is crab cake and a few breaded shrimp I need to use. The crab cake is from Sam’s and I already had one and it’s pretty good for frozen food. I think it’s a fairly new item so hope they don’t get rid of the shrimp scampi. It had a discount of a couple of dollars so not sure what that means. Won’t be the first time they discontinued something I like! Hope you all have a good weekend and find something enjoyable to do.

I got a couple minor things done today but not what I planned. Tomorrow afternoon the people to erect my rv port are supposed to be here to do so. I'll be afraid to start anything in the morning so doubt I'll get anything done except spending money. I might try to take a few throw blankets and miscellaneous things to the laundry room.

Karen and Sharon, good to read your posts.

And thanks to all who have commented on my carpet project. Normally I'd prefer to not have carpet but the floor in here was in such bad shape that doing anything else was going to be cost prohibitive. I'm pleased with the results, even though there are a few tweaks yet.

Today was most likely the last sunny day in Oregon for a while, so I got out to enjoy it for a bit. Still needed a light jacket, but it was nice to see the sun. Rest of the next week will be cloudy, and then rainy. BUT, I will have my Lung Function test done on Thursday evening, then Friday of next week will be laundry, and finally I will be headed south to Napa. Yea!! Will have a telephone doctor appointment to get results a few days later.

After Napa, will head to southern CA to work on emptying storeroom of aunt's and uncle's things, and then on to Borrego Springs for a few days. I am hoping a friend will come with me, but if not, I will enjoy driving and walking around the desert sculptures by myself. Might even try the Palm Canyon 3/4 mile hike to the palm oasis down the canyon if the weather is good. At least there should not be any rain down there!!!

Last night, I finally did accomplish emptying my freezer out and defrosting it. Put nearly everything back in, but identified some stuff I need to eat right away. Hopefully, I can get some space so I can make some ice cubes tomorrow!!!

The guy that has the cows here came to plant rye grass in the pasture today. I got him to move my dirt up on the hill with the tractor for me. I'm so glad to get that done before we have more rain.

Sharon, I'm glad I don't have all the leaves to deal with like you do. Of corse, I could just pile them up and burn them. My son had a house in New Jersey and everyone would pile leaves along the side of the street and a truck would come around and vacuum up the leaves. I need to mow part of the yard again too. Hard to believe it's November 8 and I'm still mowing and the air conditioner is on. I got a text from Sam's that I have $2.69 Sam's Cash. Woo, what am I going to do with all that money. That must be something new they started. I wish they would give me money back for all the gas I buy there.

Beth, I like all your blue. Blue is my favorite color. Your place is looking really nice.

A camping friend wanted to know if I wanted to go camping next week at the state park near here. I told her yes and a few others jumped on it too. Right now I think there will be 6 of us.

After I got through playing in the dirt I went to the specialty meat market in Maurice. I wanted some of their stuffed potatoes. I could make them but their's are so good. I also picked up a small stuffed pork roast. I think I'll put it in the slow cooker in the morning or Sunday. I probably should start thinking about picking up one of the small turkey roasts for Thanksgiving. I am still on the hunt for turkey thighs but no one has any.

I made it to the bank and grocery store today... dd and her son and his family are coming over tomorrow... on the way home I was thinking about my list and how I got everything on it... and then thought oops not on list but I don't think I have enough for the dip dd called cause I'd called her earlier so she is bringing me some sugar... can't make dip with out sugar... will need to get up in the morning and make the cake though... I should have made it tonight but just didn't do it... Karen what size of pie filling do you use? I never bought it but when I've seen it on the shelve they looked bigger than the ones on the shelf now.. so if you could tell me the weight of the pie filling I will see if perhaps that was the problem besides over baking
we have had beautiful weather cold but very clear and just beautiful .... but we do need moisture... we could use some of what Denver is getting ...but if we did the kids probably wouldn't be coming over...
we don't worry about leaves here think the company that did the lawn just bagged them up I think but we really haven't lost a lot of leaves either we have a mt ash that still has leaves... rose bushes as well can't see the lilac bushes so don't know about them need to get a new curtain rod so that window can be opened...
Judy enjoy being back on the road will you be going where the fire in S CA is?
you all take care
