SUNNY SATURDAY 10/26

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

SUNNY SATURDAY 10/26

Postby OregonLuvr » Sat Oct 26, 2024 12:21 pm

Good morning. Very nice outside right now was 54 when I got up at 7am...I'm late I'm late ha ha I was up late, chatting on the phone with Laura but was fun. Making some plans for a road trip next fall. Jello jello jello but as it gets closer then we will firm up our plans.

Have a couple projects to tackle today but nothing big. Going to have roasted veggies, yams, potatoes, mushroom, onions and carrots. I make a sheet pan full so have plenty for a couple of days. So General Tsao's chicken and roasted veggies for dinner.

Anne I changed from United Healthcare last year to Aflac/Aetna went from plan F to plan G saved about $1000 a year. The only difference between the plans is you have to pay the Medicare part B deductible each year which was $240 my rate went from UHC 320/month to
Aflac/Aetna $205/month so pretty good savings even having to pay the deductible. Plan F nobody can sign up for now so the insurance pool is shrinking is what I was told why so expensive. Plan G & F are exactly the same. And so far no issues at all. You couldnt give me Medicare Advantage as I too have read alot of the horror stories. I have had zero issues since switching. I can go anywhere, anytime. No referrals needed. No co-pays. I get quite expensive injections in my eyes and never an issue getting approval, especially if he wants to try the latest and greatest meds as they come out. I am on Vabysmo FDA approved 2022 now he wants to try Eylea HD in my one eye that has a touch of fluid....Eylea HD is a 4 times higher dose than regular Eylea. Longer-acting version of Eylea HD was just FDA approved last Sept. Carol maybe see if Bills eye doc is willing to try this on him.

Sheila yes I posted this in recipes You can put chicken in it or not. The broth freezes well but not the tortellini so I scoop out some of the broth and freeze it, then just add the tortellini when I reheat it to make soup.

Weather says it is drizzly here, but really raining hard with substantial wind. Has been raining almost all night and predicted to rain all day today and tonight. I was planning to go to Harris Beach next week, but have decided to cancel it since I have to head to Eugene and then back to Eugene after Harris, so am going to try to find some place to stay closer to Eugene. That will save me a lot of gas money for this monster rig. Getting cat scan this coming week, but they could not schedule pulmonary function tests until Nov 14th, so I have to hang around there, rain or no rain. (It was about this time five years ago that I started CLL treatment there, and it started to rain and never stopped for three months!!)

Got to finish editing last couple pages of my childhood biography for my kids and grandkids, then start work on my dad's old movies. I want to write a sort of script to accompany 1948-1970 or so movies so my younger cousins and kids know who is who. Otherwise, the movies are useless, but they show my grandparents and all my aunts, uncles, and older cousins!!

Judy you cold send some of that rain our way! It has been so dry here we haven't needed to have our lawn mowed but once since July! The leaves aren't as colorful as usual and many started falling way early.
Karen thanks for the soup recipe I make a similar recipe but haven't added the tortellini. I'll try it the next time I make chicken soup.
It was 39 this morning and didn't warm up much until afternoon. They had big parade for kids and dogs through the nearby shopping center. We forgot and ended up in the middle of it going to the Coop Market. Tonight they are having a street party downtown and are closing the strip. Years ago the students would close the strip which is the main street through town and have a really fun Halloween party. I can personally attest to the fun. People came from all over in clever costumes and as the crowd increased the police would reroute traffic. The school became known as a party school and enrollment soared. It finally became so huge and rowdy it took about three years but they stopped the party. The result was enrollment dropped almost in half and it has never fully recovered. I think this planned street party is an attempt to increase enrollment but i think it has been too long.

There is a lot of drought throughout the U.S. right now, per the drought monitor map, but just a bit of it in Oregon, and very little along the coast which gets the ocean moisture. I would gladly send some out, if I could. The woods here in the coast have tons of moss, fungus, and mushrooms growing on the ground and on trees.

I started my year-long plus treatment for CLL on Oct 31, 2018, and while the treatment was easy, the rain made it really hard. I was part of a research study on how long we patients who had never had treatment before would stay in remission with infusions of Gazyva, a monoclonal antibody, followed by 12 months of Venetoclax pills. For the first 8 weeks, we were each assigned a day, and mine was Wednesday, for infusions once a week, so I had to show up on Tuesday at 7 am for blood work so they could make sure I was healthy enough to schedule the next day for my infusion. Then on Wednesday, I had to be at the cancer center again at 7 am to get more blood work, I guess to make sure nothing had changed since the last day? I sat in an infusion chair the entire day, so had to pack a lunch and snacks and bring something to read. Then on Thursday, you guessed it, more blood donation at 7 am to make sure I had survived Wednesday??? All these tests, added to the poke where they put the infusion IV in, made for a lot of bruised spots on arms and hands. The infusions themselves caused me no big side effects at all--no hair loss, no nausea, no nothing.

However, the worst part was that there was no motorhome parking at the cancer center, so I either rented a car for three days or took an Uber back and forth. That usually meant I was standing out in the campground roadway in the cold, dark, and rain each of those three mornings each week at 6:30 am with a flash light, hoping the Uber driver could find me. I felt like I was always damp, with my glasses wet and my shoes soggy. :(

The blood schedule went on for four months because I had some problems with my platelets dropping, and I also had two kidney stone procedures during those times of low blood clotting. After that, i only had to stop by once a month for blood tests and sometimes another infusion, but always at the usual early and rainy schedule.

CLL is a chronic disease so it is likely to come back, and when it does and I need more treatment, I told my doctor it will have to NOT be in Oregon winter with all the rain. :)

I'm kind of watching Texas A&M beat LSU. Not much on TV I want to watch.

I don't remember the last time it rained but it's been a month since I mowed. The only part of the yard that needs to be mowed is by the roses because I water them. I'm surprised we aren't under a burn ban.

I changed from Physicians Mutual Plan F to Aflac/Aetna because Physicians Mutual went up over $1,000. I am getting tired of all the insurance I pay. Every policy goes up every year.

I didn't take anything out to cook tomorrow so guess I'll eat something out of the freezer. I had a fish taco for lunch and a slice of pizza for supper.

I made a reservation at the newest state park for December 17th. It's on Vermilion Bay but the other side from me and just opened this year. I think it will be mostly liked by people that like to fish. You probably can fish for crabs from the shore. I keep forgetting to get a fishing license. I can never catch someone in the sporting goods section at Walmart.

Nothing really to say but I thought I'd throw in my Medicare. I started with UHC plan g and it went up more than I liked. Passed underwriting and switched to another plan G. Then I passed underwriting again and switched to Plan N. In two years I've only paid a copay once of $20 and never excess fees. I've saved a few thousand dollars over G and my monthly payment now is less than UHC wanted for my second year. As long as I can pass underwriting I'll keep checking for less expensive options of N every year after seeing where my rate is going. I'm barely paying over $100 a month right now.

I have no idea what my costs are where do you look to see what you pay out each month? right now I don't even know which plan I have... I do have the supplemental I think it cost about 100 a month not quite but close enough to call it 100 it's one that pays 1/2 of what is left after medicare pays but so far I haven't had any huge bills... the clinics here pretty much are owned by the hospital and very slow in sending out bills... I am sure that I have two visits from that month long bronchitis that still haven't come through one did less that 15 was my share I can live with that.. based on that than perhaps I'll owe another 30???
did go out to the cemetery today my 3rd daughter meet me and we visited for a bit... then stopped at Wendy's on the way home for food... so no soup today it may be later in the week tomorrow going to make ham and creamed potatoes and peas with corn if I hadn't remembered the corn it would have been the soup but need to use the corn up before it's really not "fresh" had a friend in Iowa who maintained that they shucked it as they were walking into the house to cook it... now that would be called fresh
it's been a beautiful day up in the 60's blue blue sky but yes we really could do with rain...
decided to make some more roses so reached in one bin and pulled out two colors one is a goldish color and the other a greenish color thought I would do the crochet part for both of them then shape them I wish I'd brought out a pink or purple although the afghan I am working on has a "plum" I might use it think I won't be giving it to her tomorrow
tasted the cookies I bought yesterday tasted burned so going to take them back to the store then the label that usually helps with seal of them was on the opposite side of the pkg not sure that is good as I could open it with out breaking the seal if I'd thought about it before tasting it would not have done so...
you all have a great day
