Sunday October 20

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunday October 20

Morning All, I’m loving the crisp cool air. Garfield and I can spend time on the sun porch again. Well, Garfield spends time anywhere he wants. The sunrise has shifted and now shines in my eyes for a hour so I wear a red ball cap with the brim pulled down. lol. I make a ridiculous picture but easier than wrestling with plants to reach cord to blind.

We had an internet outage and I went into YouTube withdrawal. I remember reading about hotspots here so decided I needed one. Wonky eyes, age and lack of knowledge made that impossible so called for help. #1 gd came and found Verizon had made a mess of my account. She managed to get a live person with an accent 45 minutes later I have a hotspot. When she hung up she hollered “ Mom, can we have the Verizon guy for Thanksgiving dinner”. lol He was a nice guy.

Pat, if I have any vanilla extract left after filling gift bottles I will try some with coke. lol

Beth, fridge looks great. Looking forward to your Christmas decorations.

Wish I could remember what else I read but…. Be safe

Good afternoon, Shirl! Good job getting a backup to get online. I'm being a bum today. No plans, nothing I have to do. A neighbor invited me over for pizza for lunch but I'm not in much of a people mood. I'm peopled out lol. The guy who helped with the fridge wants to help with the carpet. Wanted to start yesterday. I said no, definitely not before Monday, but I pay him and he wants the money. He's nice and I know he needs the money, but I also feel he'll nickel and dime me to death if I'm not watchful and careful. And we'll remain neighbors so I dont want to burn bridges either.

I'm watching an episode of Midsomer Murders from season 9 now. Season 9 was 2006 and this is still in production so I like that I'll be watching for a long time. Lol

Good afternoon. Been kind of lazy this morning but it was way too chilly for me to go outside but now that I have had some lunch will go out and spray my weeds and get some things off my deck put away. Need to finish cutting down the tomato plants and get that stuff stored for winter. Not all that today cause I am just not feeling the motivation. And the best part is I have no guilt ha ha ha
Shirl glad to see you have your internet alternatives all lined up. I use my hotspot once in a while when our power is out or somewhere with no wifi and it comes in very handy. I also have wifi in my car so that has been handy a couple of times too. Not handy if no cell signal tho.

I watched an episode of Irrational last night. I am intrigued so we shall see if it lasts. I am a bit of a fidgety child, I can get bored fairly easy watching the same thing all the time. I like to kind of jump around but then I forget where I was watching something so have learned to write it down ha ha Since I follow so many channels (most of them free) I need lots of help remembering. I will now wait for Black Friday and see what kind of a deal HULU will be offering. Last time was $0.99 a month for a year. So I cancelled it early last month so I would be eligible as a returning customer. If no great deal I will probably sign up anyway at some point. But only for a couple months to get caught up on any shows I may have liked that are on ABC. I can watch the ABC shows the next day if I want on my computer but I am busy enough I dont have that much tv time to waste every day.

It's cold here, only 58 degrees, and I was just headed out for a walk around the campground, when the rain started. First, just a sprinkle, but now it is a hard rain. People across from me are in a tent and in a very small teardrop. The sites on that side of the road have excellent ocean views, but no power, so it has to be cold. I think at this point, I would be heading for home or a hotel!! Supposed to be rainy tomorrow, but then nice for a couple of days. Brrrr.

I'm here on the ocean until next Monday. Got to call for cat scan appt tomorrow, ditto lung tests, so I can plan my schedule. In meantime, I am staying indoors where it is warm.

California son and granddaughter are in southern OR checking out a college, and DIL and grandson are in Anchorage, checking out a college for him. Granddaughter will graduate from high school in June. Grandson has been going to community college while he got flying hours in and earned his pilot's license. He will finish CC in June and then transfer to a university with a program in aeronautics. His pilot's license was very expensive, and he wants to be a professional pilot, but when he talked to the U in Anchorage a few months ago, they said he should wait to get his instrumentation certificate there because it will be cheaper and better, they said. Ditto for multiple engine certificate. (Plane rental and lessons are $350 per hour in California!!) If he chooses Alaska, he will certainly need a new wardrobe since he does not even have a really warm winter coat. (Son loaned him his winter coat for trip.) I figure I will buy him long underwear for Christmas!!! That will no doubt embarrass him!

And besides these two, grandson in Ohio will also be graduating next May and is looking at colleges, except right now his main goal is to pick one as far from home as possible!! Remember those days when all you wanted to do was get away from home? He's a year older than California granddaughter, but that is because he started school a year later because of local school schedules. I hope being older will help him, but who knows???

Our cold spell didn't last long and it was 90 today. We could really use some rain but nothing in sight. Just hope we don't have the flooding rains some places are having if it ever starts. I had the water running on the roses and I think I turned it off. It's on the well so doesn't matter if I left it on and it's not running very fast.

Judy, if your grandson moves from California to Alaska, that will be a big change. When I was in college I could have taken flying lessons at the local air port. I don't remember how much they were but cheap enough that a college student with very little money considered it. My roommate and I talked about it.

I wish the PBS station would show some more of the Midsomer Murders. They haven't had any in a while. They are showing a couple of shows in a foreign language with subtitles. I haven't even watched it long enough to know what language they are speaking.

Sheila, I had never made shrimp and grits before. You make the grits and add cheese and then serve the shrimp over them. I used Chef John's recipe off the internet. I didn't think it make enough gravy so I added more cream and water. My sister says she makes shrimp étouffée to put on grits. I might try that next time. I like the cheese grits just plain too.

Friday, I forgot to take Frosty to get his stitches out. I could take them out if I had someone to hold him. Hope I remember to not let him out in the morning so I can call the vet.

Martha, my grandson worked every weekend and some weekday nights his senior year in high school and part of his first year in community college to pay for his flying lessons. His parents paid for half, but it really added up fast. I had bought some savings bonds when he was a baby, so I contributed those, but i am not sure they cashed them in. This past year, he has slowed down in flying hours, but to keep a license, you still have to fly so many hours per year, so he is continuing to fly when he has to. He's been studying for the paper test for instrumentation, but it has been hard to do that while going to college. He is very serious about wanting to be a professional pilot, and they need them right now.

My Ohio son also got his license a year ago, but he joined a local flying club which cut the prices down considerably, and he can afford it. Harder for a kid these days, but my grandson is very serious about it. There are several universities in California that offer aeronautics programs for potential commercial pilots so it will be easier when he chooses one of them. He has already been accepted at Anchorage, but is also considering San Jose and maybe someplace else.
