Sunshine Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunshine Thursday

Good Morning. Nice clear sky and rising sun out there this morning, but ground out from under the trees is covered with frost. Was 32°when my fur kids woke me up a bit after 7. Supposed to head to upper 50’s. I’m up, dressed and have had breakfast. Today is the day we are having a gas disruption, supposedly from 9-5. My house is warm and with the sun being out, will stay comfortable. I’m going to be working outside anyway. It’s only a one day thing and necessary to keep the gas flowing. They were doing prep work yesterday so they can go at it today. And they are out there now, will be coming through when they are done to relight pilot lights etc. No shut off as yet. The

Shelia, glad you had a good time on your trip and arrive home safe. Beth, you definitely could write a book. But so far things have turned out well and now it’s just getting the fridge issue resolved. This too shall pass and you can enjoy your Winter. Judy, hopefully all your RV issues are settled for awhile. Sounds like your doctor is going to set you in the right direction and figure out your problems. At least he’s concerned. Karen, congrats on the big Bunco win  Tomato season is done here.

I will be spending the day here today since we don’t know when thry will be around to relight the pilots. Might fill out my absentee ballot and run it down to the township hall this morning. Only takes a few minutes to go and come back. I’ve got a mess of leaves down in the yard thanks to the windy days we had this week. So that’s today’s project. Will do some cleanup at neighbors as well. Can’t start too early as ned to let things dry out from frost and dew. Vacuum day first thing.

So guess I will play my daily round of FreeCell and then get busy. Ya’ll have a nice day.

It got down to 48 last night but I think we are headed back to the 80's in a couple of days. it was cool in the house but I haven't turned the heat on yet. We don't have any rain in the forecast and we could really use some for a change. At least the grass isn't growing very fast. We will probably be under a burn ban soon.

I finally made it to Walmart yesterday and got my shots. Sometime during the night I had to get up and take some Aleve because my arms were hurting. They aren't bothering me this morning.

I was digging in the pantry and found a bread pudding mix so I might try making it today. I'm not a big fan of bread pudding but am trying to use up all the food in the pantry. Yesterday when I was a t Walmart I bought three beets. Walmart has them packaged three to a bunch and they are not very big. I have never cooked beets so will have to lookup how to cook them.

Good morning was 41° when I got up around 5 Chilly in the house too but with my heavy sweatshirt and pants on I enjoyed sitting on the deck while Emma checked out the yard Became pretty cloudy and then the sky opened up and we had a nice rain shower for about 30 minutes. Now we have partly cloudy and sun peeking out. Gotta love Fall. We will warm up to 58 today.
Martha I cook my beets in my Instant Pot for about 15 minutes. But I have just boiled them on the stove for about 30-40 minutes or until tender with a knife poked in them before I got my instant pot. I love them warm with butter...so good and so good for you.

Going to Costco this morning, need to pick up my prescription and a few other things. Will probably pick up a roasted chicken while I am there. They have the biggest chickens for only $4.99 one of their lost leaders. I get several meals from one and then I pick the rest of the meat off for soup or some sort of casserole and freeze it.

I have some paperwork to file and organize this morning. Then will change my bed and vacuum and dust my bedroom. Other than that not too much going on. Too wet to work outside right now and we may have more rain. Snow in the Cascades. Not a whole lot but it is a start to our snow pack.

It is in the low 60's here but supposed to warm up to perfect fall weather so I hope the weather man is right. Martha, I like roasted beets. Just rinse them off and roast until tender. I also like Aunt Nellie's sliced pickled beets in a jar. Sue I hope the gas relighting goes well. I have a gas stove and have always disliked it as all the burners are small which seems strange. I used to be a fairly good cook but it went downhill with this stove. I was all set to replace it when a large storm in 2001 did quite a bit of damage so $$ went to what the insurance didn't pay for a new roof. After that I just gave it up.

Busy morning. Fridge is out. I was right that there is plenty of room up top. Could have gotten the larger fridge originally was looking at but I'll be fine with the smaller and less work. I just met one of the neighbors helping this morning and he's really capable of lots. So he'll be my paid handyman as needed. Right now he's sealing some areas for me. And he and the other neighbor will be over when the new fridge arrives. Ordered this morning and it'll be here today. After this is done and I can get inside cleaned, I'll be looking into getting an RV carport. Money I think will be well spent even though it remains here should I leave. It'll be great protection from the elements which is the biggest one. I have to figure out exact dimensions I want to get quotes that work. And my other helping neighbor wants to see if we'd get s discount if we both got them.

I should get some beets. I used to eat then fairly often but can't remember the last time I did. I'll just be thrilled after I have fridge and can keep things cold lol

Good afternoon everyone!

Sue, that's so nice that your service person will relight all the pilots. Hopefully all goes well after that happens and ready's
you for your winter heat. Martha, we had the same cooler weather this morning after a cold front brought cooler temperatures and much less humidity. It was 55 when I got up this morning and tomorrow is supposed to be 50 in the morning, but will warm up to the mid to high 80's. Karen, I need to get our filing caught up, too. Somehow that ends upon the back burner when it needs to be done. Beth, you're getting lots of things done and I hope the refrigerator installation goes well. I think the RV carport would be a good idea and keep some of the summer heat off your travel trailer.

Today was an expensive day. We had an electrician come by to see why most of the receptacles in our casita were out. When we got our power back, there was an electrical surge that killed the paddle fan/light in our living area. We learned today that most of the breakers in our breaker box are not surge protected and how the electrical inspection ever passed is beyond him. This became code 10 years ago and be bought our casita 4 years ago. So we're going to have the breakers replaced to make all of them are surge protected. When that happens, we'll also have a new paddle fan installed. We're also going to get a portable generator, with wiring and outlet installed for the generator. The generator will be large enough to function everything in the casita. So that's what we've been doing today. Spending $$$.

Martha, cut off all but about an inch or two of the greens, and don't peel the beets. Cook them until tender, then the skins will slide off really easily. And since they are already cooked, all you will have to do is add some butter and eat.

I had very little sleep the last three days because I was getting up extremely early each morning to get to the RV repair place or fairly early to the brake place, so I got to bed early last night and slept well for over 12 hours!! Made me really feel better, though I was dehydrated and had a headache. Drank a glass of water and felt better. At a very late breakfast and am doing much better, though am a whole lot poorer because of the fixes, but the hot water heater and furnace motor had been a problem for almost a year.

And don't know how, but in cold, cold Oregon I managed to get a mosquito bite on my left leg! And it is big and red now, but at least only one. Got to stop at Walmart's tomorrow when I leave here and pick up some fresher cortisone cream, vitamins, and a bunch of other pharmacy-type things. Heading to the ocean for a few days after that, but might have to come back here for a cat-scan and lung test.

Just turned on my new fridge. I don't have a fridge thermometer so will pick one up tomorrow. My handyman did a great job and intend to frame it in properly after we know it's cooling properly. It gives my little place s touch of class lolol

Irmi I just spent a week with my electrician here. He installed 6 recessed lights, 3 ceiling fans, 2 4 gang outlet x 2, GFI switches x 2 in the kitchen, An outside GFI plug, outside front porch light, and one on my carport that comes on at dark and off in the morning. It isnt real bright so it wont bother my neighbors. Yup $$$$
Beth your fridge looks very uptown. So glad you are finally getting it, hope it works great for you. Martha enjoy your beets. I have some left so will heat them up tomorrow with my chicken.
Judy it really was chilly this morning. Only going to be 35 tomorrow morning and but 63 for a high. Then we will be back in the 70's, my happy place, at least for a couple of days. More rain coming our way yippee I didnt turn my heat on tho, just dressed warmly, ya know kinda like Nanook of the North. Finally this afternoon when I was just sitting I drug out the heated throw and now I am nice and comfy and cozy. Might have to use my electric blanket too tonight.

I had some of the chicken and a bit of Thai Noodle salad for lunch when I got home so not very hungry for dinner. So made myself a caramel mocha and calling it dinner. Will be hungry in the morning tho. Then will make a quiche for lunch tomorrow as I have some mushrooms and sausage to use up. Time to settle in for some tv time now

Beth, your refrigerator looks very nice.

I boiled the beets and tried one with butter. I like the ones that come in a jar better. I made the bread pudding and it's good. I have a bottle of Baileys S'mores in the refrigerator that I have been trying to get rid of. The bread pudding called for 1 3/4 cups of milk so I used the Baileys for part of the milk.

It's down to 60 tonight but I don't think it will be as cold tonight as last night. I had to wear a long sleeve shirt when I walked this afternoon but I won't have to give up the capris yet. lol

Refrigerator looks fantastic! How about showing us a photo of the inside? It looks big!

Yes, it is really cold here!! Last couple of nights have been really cold, so I am glad to have my two little heaters and my front furnace working now. I am probably nuts to be spending 10 days on the ocean beach, but I might leave there a couple of days early to come back to Eugene to get the cat-scan and lung tests my doctor ordered. I'm a little concerned about my low test numbers that show my immune system is so weak, but I have not really been sick other than my cough. Glad I live alone and do not go into an office or school like I used to do. I want to get all the tests done before I head into California. CLL is a very frustrating disease because it is chronic, so you never know when remission will end and you will need more treatment--all you do is wait for the ball to drop on top of you. And I had been thinking that after 5 years maybe I was even cured.

I am curious about something would you all that have a kroger store look and see if they still carry something so I can see if it's Private Selection that is changing things or the store I shop at... I really like Private Selection hot chocolate mix ... it used to be in a canister 14 oz serves 11 can only find it in a box of 8 pouches... didn't check to see what the oz was on the pouches... anyway would you look and see if it's still available in the canisters in other kroger stores... the one I use is a Smith's had my dd check in Utah and the Smith's she checked didn't have the canister... it's called Private Selection double cocoa hot chocolate has the word Belgium on it usually a red canister with a black on it... would appreciate it
today was the aide and nurse day they even over lapped a bit...
couldn't figure out supper took too things out of the freezer normally I label the but one I didn't don't know if it's sausage gravy or hamburger gravy  when it's thawed I'll know if I make biscuits or mashed potatoes  the other was a bag labeled hamburger for soup so soup I made... it was good had a bit let over so toying with thickening it and putting it in a 9x9 inch pan and top it with maybe puff pastry ... last night I made parm crusted chic tenders they were really good... totally enjoyed them hopefully have enough for the three of us later... might see what else the freezer yields to add to the tenders... need to go to the store tomorrow and to the post office...
you all have a great day
