Chilly Fall Tuesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Chilly Fall Tuesday

Postby Colliemom » Tue Oct 15, 2024 7:41 am

Morning all. Chilly 34° here this morning. Bit warm than predicted. Possible Snow flakes were in the forecast, but they didn’t materialize. Yet anyway. Going to be a chilly, windy day with scattered rain showers. At the moment it’s clear out.

Not much doing here. Working on my DP which is almost done, vacumed and dusted yesterday. Took a short drive in the afternoon, north of town to see the fall color. Cloudy days make for good color and bright sunny days can diffuse the color in the leaves xcept for late afternoon when it’s at more of an angle. Got some nice pictures. Will share them in General Talk. Plan to go out again this week yet. Warm, sunny weather coming.

Sounds like not much doing with the rest of you either. Karen, hope things are good when you get your fusions. I like you am getting into the healthy eating mode. Pretty much eliminated wheat and suga from my diet. Not 100%, as there’s sugar in a lot of our foods, but sweets are out. Going to start using Stevia, Honey and Maple syrup (pure) as substitutes for sugar in recipes and almond or Gluten Free flour. I have a new cookbook written by a lady who is a relief chef on the Canadian Steamship Lines freighters on the Great Lakes. This one is all about healthy choices and sugar/gluten free recipes. I’ve been dabbling at cutting down portions and watching what I eat and am down about 6 pounds.

Shelia, glad you made it home safely and fond the air hose issue. Judy, good news on Fleetwood being able to get a new water heater. Beth is n tbe road somewhere.

I’m going to get my day moving, clean bathroom and kitchen and house will be done for another week. Hair cut and some shopping tomorrow. Have a nice day.

Good morning Sue. I have been up since 3:30 for some unknown reason. Just couldnt sleep any longer and not for lack of trying. Oh well, will sleep good tonight. Temp is 54 and high will be 71 and cloudy. Still working in my garden trimming it way down getting ready to eliminate the old and get ready for the new in the spring. Also need to pull out my old flowers and clean the pots. Just busy work.

I have my eye doc appt this morning at 8:15. Love having the early appt's. Less time for them to get behind ha ha Will be a dilation appt which I hate. Seems to take forever for the dilation to wear off. I get scans every visit but only dilation about every 8 weeks or so. Then will just come home and chill the rest of the day or until I can see. LOL

Will get a shower and breakfast and start my day. Apparently I thought yesterday was November, for some stupid reason, geez just noticed it today. Guess I was not fully awake...yes we will go with that ha ha

I thought it was strange that the mail hadn't passed when I headed out to Lafayette yesterday. When I stopped at the post office and it was closed I figured out it was a holiday.

I have some adventures with my Meetup group. The restaurant was a Chinese Restaurant. They had a big menu but most things came in sizes meant to be shared. I ordered fried rice, fried pork and two egg rolls. I had enough leftover rice to fill one of the white take out containers. I will be eating fried rice the rest of the week. The lady next to me ordered some kind of noodle soup and they came out with a huge bowl. There must have been a quart of soup. She had two bags of leftovers. They should have had some combo plates so you could try different things. It would be ok if you went as a couple or a family but it's hard to share with 8 people.

I got to Lafayette early and stopped at TJ Maxx. I managed to get out without buying anything. I had picked up a bag of cat food at the feed store for the outside cats. I should have gone to PetSmart and got Luna a bag of dog food. Maybe I'll make it to Walmart today.

Wish Beth would check in.

The sun is finally trying to make an appearance here at just a little past noon, but it is only in the low 50's and we are supposed to get frost tonight! Yesterday was a day of total frustrations and I was very ready for bed last night. Pippa is not feeling well and I had to pick up new meds for Toby and the vet is 20 miles away. I chose the wrong time of day to go forgetting how the sun is in a bad position after three.and my sunglasses didn't help much. But both dogs have their meds and I stopped at the nearby 'adult' venue to buy a bit of medicinal meds for me ;)
Thanks Carol for the book recommendation. Karen you are lucky to have found a good PA. I see a Board Certified Internal Medicine doctor but I think a good PA might be better. There is a big corporation who owns most of the clinics here and they are in bankruptcy so many of the good doctors have left. The hospital has even people who come in by ambulance who often have to wait 7-9 hours in ER they are so short of help. I don't know if this is typical now but here your doctor isn't allowed to visit you in the hospital once you are admitted you are treated by the hospital doctors. Martha I like to shop at TJ Maxx as it is one of the few stores left here since the mall closed. They are always busy so I look how long the check-out line is before I look at anything.

I went out yesterday afternoon (it was about 98*) to go to my local grocery store. I wasn't feeling tip-top, so I just got the basic things I really needed put in my basket and headed for the front of the store to check out.

When I got up there the store was busier than I have ever seen it. There were only about 8 check stands open and there was at least eight or nine people in line ahead of me at each one of these check stands, all with carts piled high with groceries. I know from experience at this store that each one of these carts would take at least five minutes to get unloaded and checked through, the thought of standing there waiting in this packed crowd for maybe another 40 minutes or so was just a non-starter for me.

I pondered for about 10 seconds, pushed my cart up in front of an closed check stand (where it could be seen), and just walked out of the store without buying anything.

I felt a tiny bit guilty, but my health comes first. Not my problem if they don't have enough staff on hand for the check stands.

Anne, I have been tempted to leave a basket in Walmart many times. Around here they can't decide what they want to do about checking people out. The local store has the self checkouts but only have a shelf about 2' long so if you are scanning stuff you don't have anywhere to put it. They usually only have one or two people checking you out. The Walmarts in Lafayette had the self checkouts with a long shelf to put stuff. I would go there if my son was with me to help. Now they have made all the self checkout places 15 items or less so you have to wait for someone to check you out. I need to start shopping at Super One where they don't have any self check outs. The only problem is they don't have the pet food I buy. The Dollar General I go to had self checkout places but they have signs on them now that they are out of order. I have seen several news reports where credit card scanners have been found on the Dollar General self checkouts.

Waiting at Les Schwab for new rear brakes to be put on my motorhome. Got here at 9 am and after getting diagnosis and estimate I called an Uber and went to mall and then doctor appt. They will be done soon—about 5pm my time
Zone. And tomorrow I will be waiting all day to get water heater and new furnace installed. Hope this will be all repairs for a while.

Good news is that doctor says my blood numbers show I am definitely not anemic, so that is good. He’s going to check my immune levels and get me appointment to check lung function. Also wants to do a chest cat scan to see if I have any infections that could be causing my cough because people like me with low immunity can get lung infections. He knows I travel so will try to get these scheduled ASAP.

I could write a book but will try to be brief. Last night was my worst motel night ever. But no bed bugs. I knew I'd be arriving to my tt today and dealing with finding someone else to replace my fridge. But... yes, the new electric meter was installed. Plugged in. No power. Called the manager and he came over. He checked the meter then came in to check my converter. Main was tripped. Long story short, he tried to reset it and sparks flew. Good thing is who knows how quickly I could have gotten service. He called and someone was out in about 45 minutes. Turns out the person who installed the new meter made a big booboo. So the park is paying for converter. Hooking up water, kept leaking at the connection. We all thought, easy fix. Ha. A part from the hose that is supposed to stop bugs, critters from getting in broke off inside the rig. Had to dismantle the whole thing to confirm that and fix. That cost will be on me. The guy will possibly help with the fridge, but the company he works for won't let him do it if the fridge won't fit in the opening I'll have. I think I need a couple more inches and it's available, but I'd need someone willing to cut the opening. I'll be visiting stores tomorrow and measuring actual fridges. I'm pretty sure I can get some guys here to remove the current fridge and then I can know for sure. During all this I got overheated. Manager sent TY and I over to the rec hall (pretty much kiddy corner from my site) to cool off. I put a few things in the fridge in there. TY will now think that bldg isn't off limits for him. That should be fun lol. Good news, the repair guy had the right converter and my rig which was on the mid 90's dropped into upper 60's in no time and I was shivering. Lots of cleaning still to do and putting things away. Water heater turned on, so I think it's time to take a shower. If I didn't want a working fridge I'd take a day or two of and be a bum. But I want a fridge!

I'd love to comment on posts, but my brain can't remember what I read. Sorry. But I did read. Oh, Judy, mosquitoes are terrible here. Worst at dusk of course. I didn't have this problem in Arizona.

Just went online and found the detail for my complete blood count and the results of the IgG level, which refers to my immunoglobulin G levels, or the status of my immune system. I have never had this test done before, but I was shocked to see how low it was. Normal is supposed to be from 600-1700, but mine is only 262!! That means it is amazing I have not had COVID or flu or pneumonia.

I was in the process of telling my oncologist that I had had some minor symptoms that had been bothering me over the last year or so, and that I wanted to eliminate CLL causes before I saw an internist or allergist or whatever in Napa. My biggest complaint has been tiredness and being out of breath, but I know I have no cardiac problems and I was never a smoker. This has been a couple of years, along with muscle weakness, but it was easy to attribute this to becoming 81. When I told him about my coughing spells, he got interested and started writing things down, which surprised me! I can go most of the day without coughing, but then have two or three half-hour to an hour of serious coughing up stuff from my lungs. This has been over several months, but with my leaving Florida, driving through the south to Ohio and Michigan, and then heading west through Canada, I told him I have probably been in most the top allergic places, so figured it was allergies.

I have not heard back from him about next steps, other than the cat scan and pulmonary stuff, but he did mention injections of some kind for the low IgG levels. So I may be hanging around here instead of heading down to Napa so fast. Only problem with big college towns, however, are football weekends! No home games this weekend, at least.

Anyway, it surprised me that he was so concerned about my coughing, and he said a lot of CLL patients, even in remission as I am, can have a lot of lung infections, hence the cat scan and some other pulmonary tests. Frankly, I figured my immune system was a tiny bit compromised, but had no idea it could be so bad, so now I am worried but really glad I saw him!! Guess I need to get my flu shot this week, but one thing I know from other CLL patients is that vaccines do not always work very well with some of us. Also, I found out that low IgG can cause fatigue and muscle weakness!!

I am exhausted from sitting around brake place today, and did get new brakes on back wheels, but I did take an Uber to doctors. Combination was very tiring, so I am going to take my shower and try to go to bed early. Have to be at RV place for my furnace tomorrow at 7:15 am, but at least they have couches there!!

I vegged out today .... I didn't go anywhere... do anything... even wished that I could get away with peanut butter sandwiches.... instead had chicken patty sandwiches and potato logs... love the gold potatoes for that ... in the air fryer works out so well...
I basically read scriptures listened to a pod cast and while doing so worked on the baby hat finished it now to do the rose for it... I don't like the back of it not sure what I did wrong but regardless it's done... I hope it will fit her... while I was gone actually the first night while I stayed at my grandson's house... I put the pom pom on the two hats I made for his kids... and gave them to the kids they liked them... I meant to get pictures with them wearing them... but forgot...looks cute still think Bugs is too big... but they wanted it that way
on Friday we were sitting around and my grandson's wife was getting ready to make sour dough bread... gs said to wife need to talk before you start on the bread... so they head off and I said can't talk in front of me teasingly they motioned to the kiddo's and said not you them... so I went to my room to get dressed to go to Walmart to get stuff that I wanted to take with us like a cooler and a water bottle cause I forgot the one on the counter.. that kind of stuff.... anyway their little girl came in and said I get to go with you.... thought she was talking about to Walmart but no it was on our trip.... I'll be honest wasn't overly happy about it I was afraid she would want mom in just a few days... or she would get bored on the drive or all sorts of things you can think of that a 5 year old might do to create travel discord... she was so good and I was so happy about it...
we learned a lot on the trip...
one was to not do one of the items on the "want to do list" on the way out of town... dd wanted to go to Mt Rainier she wanted to go on Tuesday I wanted to go to Hoh Rain forest but my granddaughter wanted to go to both (not the great granddaughter but the 10 year old) mom said one day out of school was ok but not two so the compromise was we would all go to the rain forest and La Pusha (misspelled of course) to see the ocean on Thursday and then we would go to the Mt Rainier with dd and her family driving in a separate car on Saturday as we head out...
so Saturday we get up get stuff ready to load and dd decided to go get a Chia at least that is what the youngest told me found out later that the car didn't start so my son in law had to jump it so they took it for a drive to charge up the battery and while doing so got the Chia so we were later leaving than we wanted to and then youngest dd decided that they didn't want to go... so we went on our way we had hoped to take a ferry across but decided that the long bridge was better time wise... we did cross on the way on the ferry but it was dark so didn't even get out of the car... so they wanted a redo... get to Ashford and join a line into the park... those happen but we didn't anticipate it being a 3 hour long line to go 5 miles!!!! :o had to bail out on meeting up with Anita to get the roomba  not sure how or when that will happen... got into the park and instantly no line dd asked the ranger how far to the next gas station he said 6 miles back like we want to make a u turn and join the line???? anyway on we go stop at Long something for potty break and dd and ggd went to the store... found what they wanted.... so oh word and didn't turn right when we should have go left for a ways then decide that the gas is getting seriously low so turn around and go back to Ashford and get the car gassed up then back to the park that took only like a couple of minutes... no line and it's getting dark so up to where we should have turned right and did so only to find out that it was down hill all the way we could have done it but dd has anxiety so it was good that we did it the way we did... went to Moses Lake for the night had gotten a reservation via one of those booking agents one needs to call and ask questions... this one had no elevator and wanted to put us on the second floor up two flights of stairs dd got them to change it so we went down just a few steps... but seriously no elevator????? and the curbs no handicapped entrances (there were rooms on the main floor just none available) if I had been a mystery shopper I would have dinged them a couple not for those with mobility issues... guess how far Moses Lake is from Bremerton??? driving time??? about 3.5 hours :o we learned if you want to do something do it when you want to would we have had to wait 3 hours possibly but the attitude would have been different... and go with a full tank  we just didn't want to turn off the car for fear that it wasn't charged up enough it probably was was the worry was real
enough of my rambling on more of the trip later
you all have a great day
