Saturday October 5

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Saturday October 5

Good Afternoon, The day is slipping by and everyone must be busy. It's warmer here today up around 86 which after the cool spell seems hot, but compared to some I should be grateful. I've been lazy and spent way to much time on the Oregon Trail with my book. Karen I think you have energy to spare so could you just send a little this way. Barbie You did it!! I hope you like your new home it sounds very pleasant. I'm heading back to my book they are only half way there and they are having to lighten their loads as the oxen are having a hard time. It is hard to imagine how so many people actually did survive.

Hi BJ. I'm so looking forward to temps no higher than mid 80's. Mid 70's would mage me happier lol

I've been in and out of the RV all day. Tomorrow I'll dump and make sure the fridge is empty, turn it off and unplug the RV. I'll leave the sewer connected for when the guys come to winterize. After that's done I'll do a final quick vacuum etc. So I'll be sleeping in the casita this week. Shhhh. I'm sweaty so I think I need to take a shower now.

Sandi, I sent you a PM also.

BJ, when I drove to Yellowstone in 2018 I stopped at a rest stop along the interstate somewhere, quite a ways past the back of beyond. Rolling, uneven country - one tall rocky bluff a few miles ahead of me in the distance that I would soon be climbing, another one (just as tall, and just as rocky) that I had driven up and over several miles back.

It was a fine, blue-sky day, at one of those places that it seemed a person could just about see forever.

At the back of the restroom, overlooking this terrain, was a small overlook that had been constructed out of the local rocks (took a LOT of them to build this thing, and looking around I could see that there were still rocks without number lying around to spare).

This overlook had a small sign that said that this had been part of the Oregon Trail, and that many wagon trains had passed through this area on their way to Oregon.

I tried to imagine it. . . and really just couldn't. Blew my mind, just thinking about it taking days to go just a few miles, slow oxen pulling heavy wagons (with many people probably just walking to help lighten the load) when I was taking just seconds to drive those same number of miles.

Standing there, I was in absolute awe.

86* is definitely a nice temp for October 5, which in most places would probably be considered the soothing crisping days of early Autumn.

Just now, at 3:19 p.m., my weather station is reading 107*.

I'm thinking it might top out at 110* or so today.

Toasty.

Good evening. Had a busy morning out in the garden and then in the house. Weather is good. Chilly this morning so I kicked my heat on for a little while, then got dressed and headed outside, had warmed up to 53 ha ha but I was dressed for it. Came in later and changed as it was slowly warming up. Now 78 so definitely my kind of weather.

Spent the afternoon checking on when my favorite shows would come on later this month. Found a new show on abc.com that already started a couple of weeks ago. They have removed their app ABC from streaming but said it would still work on your phone, computer or tablet. So I fired up the tablet and went to my browser and entered abc.com and it worked. Since ABC is on HULU and I cancelled it for now as they usually have it for $0.99 a month for a year on Black Friday I will sign up then. I can wait. Then sign up for it and see any shows I missed. They have a new show started a couple of weeks ago so thought I would check it out. I liked it. Nothing heavy but still entertaining. It is called High Potential. Managed to kill a couple of hours watching the Pilot and the next episode.

Just finished dinner, made Garlic Butter Shrimp and had it over noodles and a small salad. Very tasty. Going to make muffin meatloafs on Monday, that way I can freeze some so remembered to take the hamburger out of the freezer. Now getting ready to settle in and see what else I can find on the tube.

Good evening!

Karen, I was waiting to see if someone would mention High Potential! :)

Sandi, sorry to read about Abby, and I know others are sending you good advice.

Sheila, her daughter and great granddaughter came through town and we had lunch together. It was so good to see Sheila and meet the other two.

Another three-hour IBS episode in the middle of the night, which made me sleep in until almost noon. Not fun, but will take some meds tonight before I go to bed. Anyway, drove to nearby town when I got up, and got a propane fill, went to Home Depot and picked up hose washers and a drawer pull for my shower, then on to Les Schwab which confirmed they could not put new brakes on my motorhome, then some groceries, and finally ordered a large three-topping pizza online and got it for half price. Had two slices for dinner. Froze rest of it, which will make me at least 3-4 more meals. Been really hungry for pizza, so happy to find deal at Domino's.

Barely made it back to campground before dark, but managed to park and then fill my water tanks and plug in electric. Had dumped tanks on my way out, so I am all set for a few days. Also put everything away, including the boneless chicken thighs and pizza slices. Wish stores would more often have smaller packages of chicken. The family size ones last me forever and now freezer is packed again. Got a small roast and am going to make stew tomorrow. Just got hungry for something different. Worn out for all my errand running and then putting stuff away. Will take out trash tomorrow and go for a walk. Campground is almost full because of weekend, but I am sure it will empty out tomorrow or Monday.

Glad to see it is cooling off for some of you.

I made it to the festival about 4:00. It was hard to find a place to park but it didn't look like there was that big of a crowd. I don't know if they were expecting trouble but I have never seen so many police officers at this festival. I made a pass through the park where there were a few booths selling stuff and through the area where the food booths were. I wanted a funnel cake but no one was selling them. I got some food to go and a festival t-shirt and came home. There was a band playing and there was music until midnight but now that music is too loud for me.

Judy, I don't like the big packages of chicken thighs either. Sometimes I can find one with 6 thighs instead of 12. When I go to Lafayette I think about getting a pizza from Sam's. I like their pizza. If I go shopping there I usually leave with one or two slices. My freezer is too full to put much in and I haven't felt much like cooking lately. I needed to go to Walmart but my foot hurt from walking a block to get to the festival. I just stopped at a Dollar Store and picked up some milk.

Now they are saying the area in the gulf is going to be a hurricane and head to Florida about the middle of the week. Irmi could get some to this storm. The electric company trucks are just getting back from helping Florida and will have to to back. A cold front is suppose to keep it away from here.

Hi all! Every time we drove across the country in the RV I thought of the early pioneers on the Oregon Trail. The contrast between our luxurious travel mode with our own bathroom, kitchen, heat, A/C etc. and their wagons always gave me a lump in my throat.

I loved High Potential! But I think it's only on streaming from here on, right? Not regular ABC. Seems like we see many new show teasers that turn out to not be available on regular networks.

As Anne said, it's still hot, hot, hot here. And we have 2 or 3 more days of it, they say. I always liked summer, but I'm hating the awful heat almost as much as I hated the bitter cold! I'm an old lady wimp.
