Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Thursday, Oct. 3

Postby Colliemom » Thu Oct 03, 2024 8:47 am

Morning. Sun has risen on another nice day. Was 47° when I got up. Low 70’s for today. A bit above normal, normal being low 60’s. But with the lower angle of the sun, it’s not the same warmth as mid summer. So it’s very pleasant. But we desperately need rain.

Was so nice seeing all the posts the other day and even Liz popping in with latest updates from Helene in her area. Yes, it’s a long road to recovery for thousands. When you see the scope of it all, you wonder where to even begin.

Barbie, glad to arrived safely and now to get settled in and start another chapter in your life. Judy, sounds like you are in the perfect place. Enjoy.

I too am another one who can’t handle hot weather anymore. It’s either do whatever in the cool mornings or forget it. Weather determines what I accomplish or not. It’s why it love this time of year. Anne, don’t worry about my not takng tine to rest. I do. Every afternoon the dogs and I are off on a walk, so basically I am into things from morning till early afternoon. This time of year I only have so many hours to accomplish anything outside with the days getting shorter and dews getting the grass and leaves damp overnight. The pine needles have been coming down really heavy, so it’s almost a daily chore to clean them up. And the leaves are starting to fall now as trees change color and gradually drop them. So that will be my fun for next couple weeks. But I plan to get out on the road and go “leaf peeping” as we call it. Enjoying the beautiful scenery. It doesn’t last long.

Reading the comments about that crazy word and clock tests, gives me a few chuckles. Seems brain retention is in short supply on here  Most of us can’t remember what we read from the day before, plus what we said when a post goes poof before we post it. Ah, the trials and tribulations of being seniors. But some questions we get asked anymore can be downright intimidating. Just because we are getting older doesn’t necessarily mean we have “lost it”. I have a brain game app on my IPad called Word Source. It’s one of those games where letters come up in a circle and you connect them to make words to fill in the crossword puzzle up above the circle. Let me tell you, it’s a lot harder than you think. But it gives the brain a workout. Sone words come easy and others are downright difficult. But I amaze myself sometimes on words I come up with from deep in the recesses of my brain. Sometimes I have to go into a Word Unscrambler online to get my answer and the answer can be a word I never heard before. Not on the everyday vocabulary. Maybe for an English scholar. So the app is a good challenge to keep the brain sharp.

But right now it’s time to end this and get cleaned up, dressed and get outside and tackle the yard mess the wind brought down yesterday. Time to put the baggers back on the tractor and go at it while everything’s dry. Supposed to rain overnight. So have a nice day all.

Thursday the Third

Postby BarbaraRose » Thu Oct 03, 2024 8:50 am

Well, the black cloud has reared it's ugly head once again!

The storage place I am using has a keyless way to get in to the building and open each unit. You go on their app and click on some options on there to do that. Well, my phone got low last night so I plugged it in to charge it back up to use for this morning. For some reason it is now not taking a charge! I tried different outlets, used a couple different charging cords of Julie's and nothing. With the app, we could use that to get in as early as 6am, but without it, we need to wait now until they open at 8:30. I have Julie on my account there so I will have her added on the app so she can use her phone for today to open and close the unit. We should still be OK with beating the heat. We will be parked under a large awning by the main door, and the unit is right around the corner from there, so we should be able to get unloaded pretty quickly while it is still just in the 80's or so.

That is so crazy!! I have never had that issue with a phone before and of all the bad timing (not that there is a good time to not have a phone charged)! Once we get the storage unit loaded, and I return the UHaul, I will stop at a Verizon store nearby and see if they can figure it out. Otherwise I will have to get a new phone.

Romeow decided to have a cat fit overnight and re-arranged the kennel! I could hear him moving the litter box around and then the food dishes. He was meowing all night too! He wanted out! So the kennel is a total mess this morning. Needless to say, between trying to find a way to charge my phone, and Romeow's antics all night, I didn't get a whole lot of sleep, which I really needed to have.

Will post an update later today.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Good morning. It is pretty chilly outside right now 39°and we will warm up to 82° So I am layered up this morning. The news said we are 49 ha ha ha NO all 3 of my sensors outdoors are reporting 39 40 and 40. They need ME to report the real temps here.
The best part of today is NO WORKER BEES. I dont have to hurry and get showered and dressed. I can just leisurely enjoy my coffee this morning. I have a couple things to do this morning that require some concentration and I surely couldn't do that this past week. So will just enjoy my solitary morning. They will be back next week to install my fan when I get it. It is supposed to come Friday. Think I am done in the electric area except for the 1 outdoor GFI and my fan.

I need to get my trash together and take my cardboard and styrofoam to the dumpster. I also need to get a few groceries and plan a few meals for this week. I only plan about 3 meals because I often have left overs or want something else. I will see what the stores have on sale then will make my list. Barbie glad you have arrived safely. Now time to start the new chapter in your life. Sorry you have had phone issues. Sheila have a great time on your trip. Beth getting ready to hit the road soon. I will be starting my bathroom project again as it is half done due to having to do outside stuff. It isn't going anywhere so I will get it done this year. Anne good luck on the house hunt. Off to get my second cup of coffee

Been awhile since that's happened lol. They are all together on one thread now. Off to walk TY while it's cool out. Says we won't hit the mid 70's until 9. Mid 90's for a high. But it was only reaching 80 yesterday when the physical activity in the sun here did me in. But as the sun went down last night it was mid 80s and beautiful. What a difference this sun makes.

Barbie glad you arrived safe! If you have Verizon it may not be your phone, their service was out at least one day this week. A friend just bought the latest $1900. phone and had trouble. She went to the Verizon store and found out they were having issues in several places. Stay cool Beth! Karen glad you are having a day without workers enjoy the peace and quiet. I think they stooped doing those clock and word tests at the doctors here, that or else they look at my chart which probably has Non Compliant written in bold letters at the top and decide not to bother! I refused to take it and also refuse a lot of other things they suggest. It is beautiful out again today a perfect fall day. Sue enjoy your leaf peeping drive. Many of the leaves turned brown and fell off almost a month ago it has been so dry. Our colors may not be very good this year. I think it is time for a little ice cream treat and a nap. Enjoy the day where ever you are.

Barbie, so glad that you have safely arrived in Tucson. And about those black clouds. By this time in our lives most all of us on here have lived through many a storm and we carry some of the scars and wounds still. The truth is that human nature is inclined to let us find what ever we hunt for. It is a matter to perspective. I play a lot of I am Pollyanna games… to remind myself that most happenings in life are aggravations of time and maybe money and what are real storms. ( loss of great quantities of blood or lack of oxygen…. Loss of people and homes etc…). And only even the sunniest of days we know that there can always be an aggravation or stumbling block come up…. Life is like that. For most of us it is just another aggravation and these too will pass. At this stage in life it takes all my energy face the surprises and work my way round them. I don’t have the energy of mind body or spirit keep looking over my shoulder…. Keep reading folks posts. I think you might hear the common theme of … our bodies aren’t cooperating with our hopes and dreams as we wish they would. But things break. We count our blessings ( we didn’t buy that cottage nestled up the the pretty mountains of NC…). Please allow yourself some grace. Spend your energy moving forward. You have accomplished so much. There will always be surprises… and Murphy’s Law is that they will come at inconvenient times and our good planning doesn’t eliminate them but does help. Don’t forget to enjoy every chance to discover joy, it strengths the spirit.

I agree with the others Tina. Great things to think about and remember. My dog Abby was recently diagnosed with kidney disease. I’m heartbroken but working on caring for her and holding things together. Thank you for your thoughts.

I have already lost several friends from high school, and while I am sad they are gone, I am happy to still be alive and in fairly good health.

A couple of years ago, I bought a smaller printer, and it has driven me crazy since I bought it because it keeps giving me messages about a paper clog when no paper is clogged or mysterious messages about something not working, but not telling me exactly what the problem is or how to fix it. I put it away about 6 months ago, and was about to toss it in the trash, but today I got it out again, put in a new ink cartridge and it worked long enough for me to print out several pages of business cards with my blog address on it and several copies of an updated medical summary sheet. Whew. It did give me error messages at one point, but i just turned it and my computer off, unplugged it, and took a walk. When I got back, I plugged it in and it worked again, but I just cannot trust it.

I'm at least getting a lot of sleep and getting a few smaller project done while i am here. Not a lot to do around here, but that is OK. I'll head into a nearby town on Saturday to stock up on groceries and check on places to get new brakes put on this thing.

I guess there have been so many "issues" in such a short time recently, that I have gotten very frustrated and a bit cynical lately.

We got the trailer unloaded into the storage unit, my car, and Julie's car. All were packed tight! Julie and I were very tired after that. David sat and supervised. :D I dropped off the U-Haul and then stopped at a Verizon store. They pretty much said my phone is toast. So when I got back to David and Julie's house, I ordered a new one on Amazon that will arrive at the new house tomorrow.

After resting up for a couple hours, we headed to the new house with both cars. We unloaded what we had into the garage. I met my roommate, Heather, and she seems really nice. After David and Julie left, I moved things from the garage into the bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. I moved a few things, the bed and 2 dressers, around in the bedroom (with Heather's permission) to work better for me and the cats, and then made up the bed with the comforter set I bought. It is a queen bed so I couldn't use what I had at the old house. By the time I got that all done and a few things put away, I was really wiped out! My back and feet were really sore. I sat outside on the patio with Heather for awhile and we talked a lot about the pets we have had. Her backyard is very large with some nice trees to sit under. It needs a little TLC and I told her I would help her with it when it cools off. The mountains are practically in her back yard and are beautiful! Lots of hiking trails nearby in the canyons. That whole area is more in the outskirts of Tucson with homes spaced far apart on the hillsides and most are the southwest/adobe style, which I love. It is so quiet and peaceful out there.

I headed back to Julie and David's to get the cats. The sunset was amazing on the drive there! Big orange sun setting between 2 mountain peaks with the silhouette of large saguaros in the foreground! Wish I could have taken a photo. The desert here is so much greener, and more interesting and beautiful than in California.

Once I got to David and Julie's place it was dark and I was too tired to think about going back to the new house so I am staying here with the cats for one more night. I will take them home in the morning. Then will get my driver's license changed, register to vote, and hit Walmart for a few things I need. Then spend the weekend unpacking, decorating a little, and mostly relaxing!

Sandy, sorry to hear about Abby. I am sure you will make her days as comfortable and happy as possible.

Just a quick note to Sandi. So sorry, but remember my dog Peaches? She lived about 4 years with her kidney disease. So it can be maintained. I hope that's the case for Abby.

Barbie, I'm glad you've made it and met your roommate even if you aren't there tonight. This is, imo, a gorgeous part of the desert. I'd love to see you, but it might be in the spring as I'm getting ready to leave late next week.

I'm exhausted, so going to see if dreamland will take me away.

It was only 86 and cloudy today so I loaded the mower and went and mowed in Maurice. Yesterday they had been predicting a lot of rain starting tomorrow. Today they say we will only have a little rain. The truck had been running good for a change. After I unloaded the mower and was going to park the trailer the truck started running bad and the service engine light came on again. I will probably have to get it towed again.

Barbie, glad you are mostly moved. I'm sure your cats will be glad to get out of the cages.

Tomorrow is Friday again. It sure seems like the week passed fast.
