Wedbesday, Oct 2

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Wedbesday, Oct 2

Postby JudyJB » Wed Oct 02, 2024 2:37 pm

High today will be 69, which is nice. Last night was not so chilly, so only used my electric heater for a couple of hours. Also, last night I did some organizing and found my printer ink so I can work on printing today, but first I need to finish lunch and then dump my tanks. Also found the Canadian stickers for my map, so will do that as well.

Campground has 20 sites and only 4 were filled last night, so other than the slight road noise of cars going over bridge in the distance, it is pretty quiet here.

Ah, Judy, that's my kind of cg, empty or close to it. Enjoy!

I had a tough morning. It was cool enough that I stopped by the gardening supplies and signed out PBS of the loppers again. I'm not meant to garden. I didn't get half I wanted to done and realized I was sweating and felt dizzy. Barely made it inside and to the bathroom where I spent a good 1/2 hour or longer. I think I have to bite the bullet and pay to have these jobs done unless I'm here in the winter. Temps get low enough then that I might be cabable of doing more. I also intended to do some inside work and laundry but I'm only feeling more normal now. And I like laundry done before now. Ah maybe I'll do my bedding. I need to feel I accomplish something.

Sheila it was great fun talking with you yesterday and I'm glad I could be some help, too.

Good afternoon ladies!

Judy, I love the quiet campgrounds as well. Beth, I'm guessing you got your bed linens washed.

One day last week, there was a discussion about the cost of candy bars. Yesterday we bought a few things from the Winn Dixie and I checked the prices of the candy bars as we were checking out. Each one was $ 2.89!! I'm sure the dollar stores are less, but that is just crazy!

Today we went for a drive to the Yankeetown beach, which is on the gulf coast. The gates were locked so we couldn't get in and workers were there. On the drive there, we drove by lots of homes with mountains of furniture, mattresses, rugs and everything else that was wet from the flooding. There were so many piles of that sort of trash, I can't imagine how many trucks will be needed to haul their belongings to the dump. And there were lots of side streets which we didn't go down that are still flooded. I feel so bad for the families there that will be starting over. We stopped at a restaurant that was still closed and the stench from the flood was unbelievable. We continued driving and stopped at a mom & pop type of restaurant and had a midafternoon meal there.

I think the high today might top out at around 112*. Just now, at 2:45, the temp is 107*.

Around 5 p.m. is usually the hottest part of the day here.

We shall see how high it gets. Looking at weather.gov, looks like current temp, at 2:45 in Klamath Falls, is 81*.

Nice.

Beth, can I assume it was really hot when you were trying to garden?? That sounds dangerous, so take it easy! You are working and living in two hot places, right? How about trying for some places farther north that are not so hot? Like northern Washington, Oregon, Idaho, or Montana?? I know this year has been unusual, but getting dizzy does and taking several hours to recover does not sound good. I know for myself that as I have gotten older, I just cannot handle the heat like I used to four decades ago!! And living alone, as many of us do, means we have no one to pick us up if we pass out.

Ditto for you, Anne. You also need to head north so you can spend time outdoors without passing out from the heat.

I'm going to be in the west for the next couple of years, and right now am not sure where I am going to be next summer, but it is going to be in one of those states I just mentioned where it is cooler. My CA son and his wife have to take their vacations in July so they will probably head to Oregon and the beaches, so I may join them.

By the way, this morning there were only four campers here and two were solo women and one was a solo man. Then another solo lady pulled in, so we may have a record here!

Good afternoon. Went to my Bunco meeting today, it was fun I won $1.00, not sure where I will spend it. Would have won $3 but there were 3 of us "most losses" ha ha ha so we each too $1 instead of rolling the dice. We figured a bird in the hand as they say.
My electric guy was here this morning, put in m y 2 GFI switches in the kitchen. I already have GFI in the guest bathroom and the one in my bathroom is GFI but if it trips I have to go in the guest bathroom to reset it. He said that is the way they used to do it. But he checked them out, tripped them and reset with no problems. All he has left to do is install my ceiling fan in the kitchen dining area and one more GFI out on the deck. I decided to go with the ceiling fan and light in the kitchen area so ordered it from Amazon and he will put that in sometime next week. Then I will be D O N E........maybe ha ha

Beth I dont do the heat well at all anymore. Same things happen to me, I figure my internal thermostat has worn out. That is one reason why I get up early and am done when it heats up. I just cannot function when I am hot outside and I think it is dangerous too.
Anne your heat is unbearable for sure. We were 48 this morning and now it is sunny and 76 so that should be our high for today. It is a bit breezy today tho so feels kind of chilly ha ha ha BUT I love FALL.
Irmi I am sure the devastation is incredible. I have seen it on the news but of course they always show you the worst parts but the damage is so widespread it is hard not to. Glad you found a place for lunch.

Not sure what I will have for dinner but had cake and some snackies playing today so not real hungry. Might just make a salad.

It was cooler this morning. Really lol But I agree with Judy and Karen. I can't handle heat any more. I've looked at several northern locations but haven't found anything that would work. And this year SD, MN and WI areas I would have been fine with years past we're ridiculously hot, and the last two more humid. So I've been careful but this morning surprised me. But I'm going to have to leave the trimming here to money coming out of my pocket. Maybe if I get here early enough next spring I can do some of it but I'm not counting on it.

Don't spend all your winnings in one place, Karen.

Irmi I did get my bedding done, but haven't remade the bed yet. It's waiting for me.

I swear, TY is a clock. It's 5:01 and his dinner is supposed to appear at 5. He's brought me a toy. He's lickedm my foot. He's now laying on the floor at my feet, pouting. I best do my job lol

Beth, Luna has a good internal clock too. At night she wants to go to bed at 10:00 and doesn't want to sleep under my desk until I'm ready to go to bed. I usually have to get one of the cats out of her bed.

Irma, I can't describe the smell from Hurricane Rita and I didn't think I would ever forget it. The amount of destruction from this storm is unbelievable. It is going to take people a long time to recover from all the flooding.

Karen, about the only game I play sometimes at campouts is LCR. Everyone starts out with $3 and who ever wins gets it all. At one campout there were about 25 women playing so the winner got $75. The only time I won I was playing for someone that went to the bathroom so it wasn't really my win. lol

I went to Costco to get some snacks for the 4-H event the Cattlewomen were putting on this afternoon. Does Costco have a map that tells you where things are? The aisles only have a number so I got tired of looking for pet food and left. I got one of their chickens and that was really good. The only reason I have a membership is because my son wanted one. There is just too much of most things for one person.

My sister called wanting to know if I was going to the campout this weekend. The only reason she wants to go is because that town has a restaurant with a seafood buffet.

Well, I made it! I am at David and Julie's tonight in Tucson! And no issues! Hoping I left the "black cloud" back in California!

I woke up early but didn't feel good. I think it was because I never went to get dinner last night because I was so tired, but this morning I was running on empty. I walked over to Denny's for breakfast at 7:15 but felt dizzy there so just took my order to go. Once I ate and laid down for awhile, I felt better. I didn't get on the road until 9:30. Got out here around 2pm. Stopped in Gila Bend for gas and a potty break. The cats were silent the whole way. They just get vocal when I am moving them in their carriers. I left some food and water for the stray cat outside the motel this morning. Then saw another one with him, also eating the food.

We decided it was too hot to unload the trailer this afternoon so we will do it early tomorrow morning. We did go over to the storage place to get things set up with paper work. The lady is really nice there and she gave me a good deal. Also got a unit on the first floor right by the front door so it will be faster for loading stuff in there. They have large flat bed carts as well.

We went out for dinner at a local Mexican place. About the only thing I like that is Mexican is tacos and quesadillas. I got a cheese quesadilla with shredded chicken (figured I need the protein) and it was really good! Took half of it with me. Also had a strawberry Margarita which was also very good.

Cats are doing pretty good tonight. We put them in a large dog kennel in the guest bedroom so they have more space to move around. It takes Romeow some time to get over his fear and not keep laying in the litter box, but he is moving around now and even eating some tonight. He even accepted a couple treats. Sophie just wants out so she can explore.

It will be nice to get settled in the new place tomorrow afternoon. My new roommate, Heather, is heading up a big dog festival in Tucson promoting adoptions this Sunday. It is called Dogtoberfest. So she will be very busy. Next week we will have more time to sit and chat.

Off to bed!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

I don't think they do Martha can't remember seeing one... guess part of the fun is checking it out might see/ sample something that you will want to get
Judy does sound like a great campground... even the camp hosts like it when it's quite like that... did you and all the solo campers have a good visit?
I can't imagine the horrors the hurricane left behind.. hear of sad stories... one women's parents and son died.... just so sad... Irmi glad you found something to eat... I saw a car today that the license plate said North Carolina on it...bet they are glad they are here and possibly very worried about family and friends...
I bet that was super scary Beth there does come a time when more help is needed... hope you are feeling better and great that you got the sheets cleaned...
don't know what the temps got to today hotter than normal though it's still 51 according to the computer
I had to get a copy of my drivers license so stopped by Staples to do so got it then took a right out of the parking lot to take a back way into the post office... big mistake at one time I seriously had no idea where I was finally found my way to a street turned left on it and saw a restaurant finally knew where I was so another left and a block later found it stupid construction.... what one gets for driving on certain streets to get where you typically go.. when they are blocked your up the creek without a paddle... the person in the post office was so nice... I had a call at window so went there first so they wouldn't be closed when I got back from the box... told her the number and she came back and said that she didn't find anything... told her what I thought had happened... I was there on Friday and nothing except the book from medicare so explained to the person putting out packages that I couldn't understand why no mail she went back to see what she could find and got my box of books... then on Sunday nephew gave me mail I thought he had gotten it on Saturday but his wife told me that she was sorry it took till Sunday to get the mail she picked up on Friday...so the package I got on Friday was the one I went in to get today.. told her thanks and I would be going to see if there was mail... she said no mail in the box... how nice of her to check ...
did get the stuff taken care of that I was going to get today and then some... spent way too much at the store... oh well I found a candy I've been looking for for awhile... it's almost like a broken up peanut brittle... no idea what it cost one of the bags and since I hadn't seen it in a long time I got both bags...
cleaned the dishwasher today it still wasn't draining correctly had hopes that cleaning the filter would help... but hopefully it will smell better... want the kid downstairs to to see if he can reach back and clean the back parts of the sides of the dishwasher just can't reach ...
I still haven't done some of the things I should have done today since tomorrow is when we leave to go mom to brother's and me to dd's so I am over there when she gets off work we can leave...
it sounds like your lighting will be much nicer Karen
good luck in your search Anne hoping you will find something that will suit your needs in a cooler place
you all have a great day

Thanks, Judy (and the rest of you thinking about me, too). Trust me on this: I am looking.

It finally topped out today here at 110* at about 4:30 p.m. This really is unusual heat here for this time of year here. . . but I don't seen things changing "back to the way they were".

And I don't live in the desert - I live in a large agricultural area near Sacramento.

I didn't do a vegetable garden this year, and I do love gardening. I have finally had to face the fact that I can no longer spend any time outside working - even just pulling a few weeds - in this kind of heat.

Just for fun, I pulled up weather.gov at the same time (4:30 p.m.) it was 110* here, to check the current temp in Klamath Falls.

It was 81*.

I could certainly live with that.
