October 1st - Rabbits Day

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

October 1st - Rabbits Day

Postby Colliemom » Tue Oct 01, 2024 8:16 am

Good Morning. A new month to play with. Fall color is starting to come in and with the cooler temps, it will take off. Be time to start chasing the color show pretty soon. Whether we have really good fall color or not, remains to be seen. Rain moving tbrough and high of 60 today.

Finished up my outside projects for the year. Feels good and a lot accomplished. You just have to have one of those Maintenance and home improvement years once in awhile. Now to get a few things done inside this winter. Mostly not stuff I can do, so like Karen said, sometimes you have to pay some green. But for now it’s outside fall chores.

Been watching the pictures of the devastation from Helene, especially in the Carolinas. The power of Nature is awesome and we are no match for it. Irmi, hope you get a hold of your friends. A long road to recovery for many. And more storms forming. Martha, guess you are going to be watching one this coming weekend. And Beth heading for TX too. Time will tell.

Barbie, safe travels as you head out today. Everything seems to be falling into place now. Karen, great that you have found a good electrician and getting things done. Keeping up with codes is a constant thing it seems. I’ve got a couple jobs for the electrician who installed my generator for later this winter. Shelia, sounds like your mom wasn’t having her best day and I agree with those crazy questions. I know they need to see how their patients are doing, but sometimes they get intimidating. To answer your questions about “the kids”, yes they are decked out for fall. Need to get a picture.

Bathroom and kitchen cleaning and vacuuming on agenda for the morning. Then I will work on DP this afternoon. Nothing needing doing outside like I said. So time to lay back and hit the hobbies. Have a nice day all. Hope we hear from some of our monthly posters today.

Good morning Everybody. I’m checking in from Connecticut where the leaves are beginning to turn to pretty foliage. My 3 siblings and I had a reunion over the weekend. It’s been 16 years since we were together. My oldest brother is 86 and we thought it was time before it was too late. Families are complicated…. Enjoy your day. Peggy

Good morning Sue and those that check in! Hopefully that will be lots of you!

Peggy, you posted before I hit "submit." Have a good time at the family reunion.

Sue, when we lived in MD, our fall colors were at their peak around Halloween. We used to go to a campground, just to get out of the house, and travel about an hour to a privately owned campground in the woods. The colors were so pretty and I would walk for hours admiring Mother Nature at her best. The fall colors are something I do miss in FL but I don't miss the cold weather.

Yesterday evening, I tried to call our friends from church that summer in Ashville NC and they answered the phone! I was beyond thrilled to be able to talk to both of them. They are fine and have power but no water or internet. Once the trees were cut up on the road they live on, they have been able to go to the grocery store but they accept cash only, since the internet is down. Needless to say, banks are closed for the same reason. They have tried on numerous occasions to make outgoing calls but the circuits are always full, so our getting through to them was quite the miracle!

Our weather here is still warm, with afternoon temperatures in the low 90's. Folks here are slowly coming back and we saw 3 coaches come in yesterday, and we were gone for several hours, so there could have been more. That's my itty bitty news for the first day of the month.

Good morning gals,

I went to bed real early last night since I was exhausted from all the loading up of stuff! So I am awake early this morning. Did say "rabbits" this morning. I took a much needed shower last night from all the sweat and dirt, etc that I accumulated all day! Felt so good! My back was really sore from all the lifting of bins, etc, so I laid on my heating pad for a couple hours last night. Using it now again this morning. Am packing it in my suitcase for tonight and tomorrow too. Luckily, so far, my sciatica hasn't been an issue at all, just sore muscles.

Need to get my last minute stuff ready that will go with me and the cats to the motel and my brother's for the next 2 nights. Then clean up the house one more time. Didn't get to clean the living room yet, so will do that too.I have the whole trailer packed only to about 3 feet high front to back so there is still room for light stuff on top. I keep blankets and pillows for last, if I need something to fill in empty spaces here and there to keep things from shifting. My bike will go in last at the back of the trailer. Still need to get a new battery for it, but I think I will get a lot of use with it on local trails out there.

I have all my directions and addresses written down for the places I need to go to. I did get my 3 month prescription the other day for my anti-depressants. Not sure if I will be able to get my ADHD meds transferred out to a Tucson WM when they are ready. Some states won't transfer controlled meds from another state. I start on my new health insurance as of today and I don't need a referral for mental health doctors so I can set up an appointment as soon as I get out there and find a dr on the website, so that is good.

I feel pretty good so far this morning. No anxiety and not feeling shaky or tired. I have about 5 hours before I plan to leave so plenty of time to get everything done and be able to relax for a bit before I leave. There is a Denny's right next door to the motel so I can walk there for dinner tonight and breakfast tomorrow morning. Plan to leave there early tomorrow to get ahead of the heat on the way out. Will stop at Julie & David's first to drop off the cats and get them settled in the bedroom, and I will take a little break before Julie and I head to the storage unit a mile away to unload the UHaul and put my clothes, food, and personal things in her car to take to the new place on Thursday. Will spend the night at their house and then head to the new house and get settled in there.

Friday, I need to get my driver's license changed and get registered to vote. That needs to be done by Oct 7th so that is urgent!

OK, need to get up and wash my hair and get busy...
Have a good day!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Good morning. Another chilly one at 43° but will warm up to 85° this afternoon. Weird weather for sure. All bundled up in the morning and half nekkid in the afternoon ha ha Need to get some housekeeping duties done today as no electrican until tomorrow morning. I have Bunco tomorrow afternoon so dont get much done when the electricians are here or I have Bunco ha ha so today is the day I need to get busy. Will be vacuuming the furniture also since there was alot of sawing going on when putting in the recessed lights. I lightly dusted when that job was done but still want to do the furniture and the blinds. Later this week will do the windows.

Lyn, yes Liz and Nan are fine. They are in cleanup mode. Toni is good too.

Irmi so glad you got hold of your friends and they are doing okay. I have a couple friends that moved to NC a couple of months ago. They moved to Sylva NC up near Ashville. They had wind and rain but no damage. Recently cut down some big trees around their house so I am sure that helped. Barbie you sound like you are on track. If your GPS is not behaving LOL you can always use google maps or mapquest on your phone. I gave my GPS away as my phone had the latest update. WAZE is another great app. It will reroute you if you want it to due to accident or construction etc. I now have Apple Carplay so dont even need to turn on my phone it is installed and updates all the time. Can also use Google maps or Waze on it. I used to just plug in my phone and use that so you can do that if you need to. GPS units get out of date quickly I found. Sue lucky you, having all your outside work done. We are entering a very warm week so probably wont even start spiffing for a couple of weeks. Good to see you check in Peggy.
I did remember Rabbits this morning, not sure how but I did. Time for some breakfast and then get busy.

Good to see so many checking on already this morning. And Karen did a great synopsis, with updates on our people that were in harms way. Today I have my doctors appt that's nothing to do with me lol. I'll probably have to memorize 3 words and I guarantee I'll forget one or possibly all of them. I get nervous doing this lol. I also can stand on one foot only but not during this appt. Not lots gets me nervous. But this does. Oh well. Maybe they'll decide I'm going downhill quickly. I'll just ignore. I should have skipped but this doctor really believes in these. She's not a spring chicken. I hope we're still on touch when she's on the opposite end of this. Most doesn't bother me so I'll get it over with.

We were having cooler nights before I went to SD. I'd like to do some more trimming, etc outside before leaving but not in the heat. And it's past dark out before it cools off the little it does. Maybe I'll have to get up and work outside at 6 am. I'm not that kind of morning person lol And TY would need his walk first so there goes that.

Happy October everyone.

Happy October, everyone. October is my favorite month of the year.

Lyn, happy to know that you and Hazel are doing well in your new home. Sue, don't work too hard - kick back a little bit. Beth, hoping that the new tropical disturbances don't affect your neck of the woods in Texas. Karen, wish my temps would get down to what yours are - 103 here yesterday, might be 105 today. This past summer has been the hottest summer I can ever remember in my entire life. Shirl, I am still "waffling" yes/no to a power station. Barbie, hope your trip goes without incident, and that you are soon moved into your new digs. Irmi, glad Helene didn't find you where you live. Peggy, hope you have a good reunion - you are so very right, families can be "complicated".

You all have a nice day, and I wish for all of a great month.

Please keep your posts coming!

Thanks.

Good Afternoon, it has been a perfect weather day here light breeze and temps in the high seventies. A friend and I went to a nearby town that has a great meat market and also other goodies you don't see much in the bigger stores. It is hard to believe it is October already the summer melted away! I too am stunned by the devastation from the storm. The talk about electrical issues make me think I need to have our house checked out. I think some of the outlets are from when it was built in 1956. Barbie I hope you make it to your brothers with no more issues!!! Try and stay cool if that is even possible if temps do get to 116.

Beth, I remember those three words by making up a sentence with them, such as "The elephant sat on a chair in the kitchen." It really does help!! Also, good reminder, Irmi, that we need to keep some extra cash for disasters so we can buy things like groceries and gas. I used to keep cash in 20s, but then was reminded by a lady in a storage place that often businesses cannot make change, so to keep most of it in 1s and 5s. She had been tossing her small bills in a drawer for years, and when a local small grocer was selling stuff by writing out slips of paper and for cash had too many people using big bills, she went home and brought him over $300 in small bills so he could make change for customers!! That was several years ago right after the big Napa earthquake.

Not much going on for me. Organized my RV repair bills and stashed them away. Need to do some printing, but as usual, I cannot remember where I put the new ink cartridge!! Got to do better about putting things in more logical places. Nice and quiet here with only four sites occupied today. Should be more later in the week, but it is certainly nice and quiet. Love looking at the mountains.

Liz is checking in. Bob and I weathered the storm at Bob’s daughter’s brick house just outside the village. We were very blessed to have no structural damage to our house and recently completed repairs from Idalia. We did have a tree down at the back of our lot that just made another mess to cut up and drag to the curb. Others were no so fortunate. Many, many trees came down, destroying roofs and carports, blocking roadways, etc. ACV was well prepared this time and got needed help in, got right to work clearing debris (ongoing across the village). Neighbors are helping neighbors. The dining room has been providing 3 meals per day while power has been out. Our amazing electric cooperative completed repairs and restored power to the whole village yesterday, which is amazing, since the entire county was without power as well as surrounding counties. God is with us always, when we are on the mountaintop, and he’s with us in the the deepest valleys.

Some of you know my daughter, Jennifer. She lives in Grovetown, GA near Augusta. The eye of Helene passed close to her and there is devastation there too. She still does not have power and it could still be a long time. School is closed at least through this week and maybe longer. Jennifer is a teacher. Her daughter Ashley is in her last year of college and will graduate with a doctorate in Physical therapy. Fortunately the family is fine, and their home is fine. The only damage they had I think is to hear backyard fence. Her phone has been on SOS mode only, and she can only text other iPhones. So I’ve been shuffling messages to other family members with androids.

Bob had surgery on a skin cancer on his back recently. His dermatologist is in Valdosta, GAwhich was also hit had by Helene. His appointment to have stitches removed was last Wednesday. It got postponed until Friday dafter the storm. On Friday it got postponed to Monday (yesterday) due to damage and loss of power in Valdosta.
They were still without power yesterday and his stitch he’s were past due. So I called my other daughter, Heather in Tampa. She’s a surgical RN at Moffitt Cancer center. She had the day off and agreed to meet us halfway in Ocala and removed the stitches. We had been able to communicate with the dermatologist on Facebook and he agreed that was a good plan.

All things work out for good…

So please continue those prayers and warm thoughts for those affected by the storm.

My prayers and support go to those who have lost much, and some lives will be changed forever.

I enjoy reading everyone’s day to day activities but don’t usually have so much news to share, lol.

Liz, I can't begin to tell how many mistakes get past me here. I'm just thrilled to have a full update from you and to know everyone is good and you were blessed with little damage.

Judy, I always try to keep ones and fives and tens in my cash reserves. Then I somehow spend them and forget to get small bills for awhile. I try though. And I remembered the three words today even while I Drew a clock face and made hands to the time I was told to. I think they'll need to rethink that portion of the test soon lol.

For those who have asked, I'll be on the road a week from this Saturday. A week from Thursday the rv will get winterized in the morning and then I'll try to have it cleaned and closed up by the end of the day. I'll move it to the storage space the following day and come back and will get organized to leave Saturday mid morning. I'm taking an extra day because when I initially planned I was leaving on Sunday, but I want my lot in the rental pool and I'm not sure the office will be open that Sunday and I need to pay my electric usage to go into the rental pool. So added an extra night. Gives me one more day to eat weekdays here lol

Sorry, rather late for morning hellos.

Welcome to October, everyone. Can it really be October already? It was 104 on my patio this afternoon. More of the same tomorrow they say. So nice to hear from all of you. I did remember rabbits, but I think those bunnies around here have it reversed.
Seems like bad luck and gray clouds hanging overhead all year.

Especially wonderful to hear from Liz and glad they escaped serious problems. Sounds like most of you near the path escaped the damage from Helene. Serious weather this year all over. This is the one time of year I miss the northeast. Leaf peeping, apple cider, crisp apples, walks in the woods, etc. Darn palm trees don't get pretty colors!
