NATIONAL DOG DAY 8/26

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

NATIONAL DOG DAY 8/26

Postby OregonLuvr » Mon Aug 26, 2024 9:28 am

Good morning. A cool 50 right now but will heat up this afternoon to the 80's. I am loving this weather. I think it might have even rained a bit last night as the street looks wet. I hope so. Our fires are totally under control right now so lets hope no more lightning or idiots not obeying the fire precaution rules.

Some housekeeping duties this morning. This afternoon I plan on sorting out my office, it seems to be the "catch all" space for some unknown reason  I have some filing to do so will do that after I clean up the rest of it.

Fish and roasted veggies on the menu today for dinner. I need to get them in the seasoning bag so I can do them for dinner. Going to cook my pound of bacon this morning too as my tomatoes are coming on strong and I love a good BLT

Have a safe trip Barbie and try to chill

Good Morning, Wish we were having temps in the 80's it is supposed to get to 100 today and tomorrow! I always resolve to become better organized when I read your posts Karen, but sadly I don't seem to make much progress. But I've marked two major items off my list so far this year. Irmi I would love to go to that thrift shop you mentioned, there used to be one in St Louis where I always found great items. You are going to be tired of crabs by the time you leave. :). I've only had them a few times but I especially liked the crab cakes.
Today is National Dog Day but seems a bit unnecessary as every day is a dog day at least at our house.

Just afternoon here and we are in for some warm, humid air this week. Of course warmer for me is 80’s unlike what some of you are experiencing! BJ, like you everyday is dog day here too! Wish I was as organized as you, Karen. I have good intentions but seem to get sidetracked and what I wanted to do just doesn’t get done! Barbie, I hope you’re able to relax and enjoy your brother and sister in law. And give yourself some grace. As it’s been said we are all here for you. Irmi, I enjoy crab cakes too. Buddy did about 12 minutes and 2 mph yesterday. At least he’s doing better on the treadmill now. I’m still using treats while he’s on it but I’ve been able to lessen the amount of them. So hopefully he’ll be more responsive to it come winter. Of course he still likes his outside walks better, I think. Saturday I finally got to the job of cleaning the inside of my car. The dog hair was thick! I’m sure glad I have a hammock cover for the back seat. It at least catches a good amount of the hair. I’ve had shedding dogs before but never one like Buddy. No matter how often I brush him he still drops lots of hair! I loaded my recycling in the car so I need to get out today and make a trip to the recycling center. Then we’ll go for a walk in the woods. The students are back in school now at the university so I will avoid State College for a couple of weeks. Stores are crowded and new drivers are not sure where they’re going yet. But things will settle back into a routine soon. I think the first football game is next weekend so another reason to avoid town. Living in a small town has its perks! Timing is everything when I do need to go into SC. Otherwise nothing else going on for me. Appointments are done for awhile other then chiropractor every few weeks. Enough rambling thoughts for me. Time to get some things done around here now that lunch is done. Have a good day and week.

Every day is dog and cat day around here. I should unload the tread mill and walk on it to see if Luna would join me. It would probably scare her. I bought one of the covers for the back seat of the car but it's still in the box. I keep thinking I should take Luna for a short ride everyday to get her over being scared. I tried putting a short leash on her in the front seat but she tries to get under my feet and I'm afraid she is going to move the shift. I bring her kennel when I'm going somewhere in the motorhome and put her in there if I'm on the road.

It only 94 so far but I'm sure it's headed up. We have a 60% chance of rain but most of it is in the Gulf now.

The last time I had boiled crabs two of the ladies ordered 6 each and I ordered 3. They were done with their 6 before I got through my 3. I should take crab cleaning lessons from Irmi.

The best thing I did in my office was to put the filing cabinet in arms reach of my desk. It's easier to file than pile papers up. My desk needs to be cleaned. Most of the stuff on there doesn't need to be filed, it needs to be thrown away.

There is a thrift shop in Lafayette that sells better quality clothes. I should look there for some jeans. I like Ralph Lauren jeans but they want $100 for them online. I wouldn't buy a $5 piece of cake for my birthday so don't think I'll be spending $100 on jeans.

OMG it is only 79 outside and I got so dang hot working in the garden. I was in the sun and felt like 100. We are going to be hot this weekend 90's oh well I wont be working outside.
I had to laugh at your crab situation Martha. When I was back east in the Chesapeke bay area we stopped at this little crab shack on the shore. All you can Eat crabs and salad bar. Wow I was in heaven. They spread newspaper on our table and brought out this bucket of crabs. OMG they were the smallest crabs I had ever seen. Out here we have Dungeness crabs and they are big. I fought those little suckers for about an hour and decided I would starve to death if it was not for the salad bar. Got over my crab excitement really quickly. Then my friend the next day ordered some sort of crab sandwich..........yikes there were legs sticking out all over, the crab was whole and still had the shell on. I ordered a french dip and it was great LOL Now I love "almost" anything out of the sea but this was just too much for even me.
I need to go to the store tomorrow and pick up some salad fixins. Mine were looking pretty darn sad. I also have to stop by the eyeglass office and pick up my new glasses so thought I would just do it all at once on the same day. Remembered to take my fish out of the freezer for dinner.
Now time for lunch Sloppy Joes again.

High will be 81 today in Medicine Hat. I slept in again, which really felt good. Since then, I fixed and ate lunch, sprayed bleach in my shower so I can scrub the parts at the bottom where I need to replace chalking, and then big project is getting ladder out and using it to take inside cover off my AC and do some cleaning. I can see inside it and it looks really thick with dust.

After all that I will probably go for a walk around campground--been a slug yesterday when I got here and today so far. I checked on Waterton Lakes for grocery stores, and it is pretty skimpy, so since I am going to be there for 5 days, I'll stop at Walmart's on my way out tomorrow and get a few things. Which reminds me--I am really surprised at the number of Walmart's I am finding even in what I would consider small towns. They aren't quite as big as the ones in the U.S. nor do they have quite the same selection, but they are pretty good. So no trouble with gas and groceries, but Waterton Lakes National Park is the northern and Canadian end of the U.S. Glacier National Park. I am going to sign up for a boat trip that goes the entire length of Upper Waterton Lake. It stops for 30 minutes at the U.S. end at Goat's Ranger Station, and we don't need a passport for that, but we do have to get back on the boat to return to Canada. I was in Glacier about 6 years ago, so now I will have seen both halves of this beautiful area!! High temps in Waterton will be in 60s and low 70s this week.

Plus, I am still getting DISH satellite TV--just no locals. :) I will call Dish from Waterton and tell them I am in Glacier so they can hook me up to Montana or Idaho locals.

Karen, the sandwich your friend had with the crab legs sticking out was probably a fried soft shell crab. At some stage of a crabs development the shell is soft and they fry them whole. They are good if they are fresh but I seldom order one because I have had some that were too fishy.

I pulled the big limb that fell out of the oak tree to the side yard with the truck the other day. I have been trying to burn it but it is very hard. My neighbor saw me messing with it and brought his chain saw over and cut it in pieces so I could put it in the burn cage. I don't think I would ever have gotten it to burn in half. I don't think I could have even picked up half of it.

I don't know what I'll do tomorrow. I get bored staying home all the time but not any place I really want to go. Saturday the Meetup group is going to Cracker Barrel for brunch at 10:00. I would have to leave here at 8:00 to make it to Cracker Barrel for 10:00. I'll have to think about that for a while.

I made it to Tucson around 3:30 today. It was a long drive (6 hours)! By the time I got here I was exhausted! Took me 2 hours this morning to get ready, loaded up and on the road. Just had no energy. When I got here, my SIL said I looked pale. I laid down for awhile until it was time for dinner. I brought a bunch of pulled pork I picked up from a BBQ place by my (old) house the other day, to make BBQ pork sandwiches with cole slaw tonight. Was very good.

We all are headed to bed early tonight. Not much planned for tomorrow other than to relax, altho I have a few phone calls I need to make in the morning. I got a summons for jury duty for next week  . I need to tell them I sold my house and am in the process of moving to AZ. Maybe that will get me out of it. :? I can't afford to lose another week. I have tons to do yet.

Good night
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

floors still need to be vacuumed ... but the hat is finished now to find a pattern for the other baby hat the thing is I want to put a flower on it so the pattern I just did I'm not sure that it would work otherwise I probably would just use it... I would probably try down sizing the hat I've made but I think it's too old a style for a new born I also finished one of the pot holders... so will continue looking in the mean time perhaps the floors will get vacuumed
I haven't eaten too much crabs and what I have eaten has been not overly fresh or at least how could it we are actually very much a can't think of the term for being a state surrounded by states no sea/ocean at all land locked??? perhaps
nurse was here today she gave mom a shower usually mom doesn't want one as "she just had one" but today she didn't complain I've been giving her 2 generic Tylenol at supper around 6ish by 9 or earlier she is complaining about hurting and needing a pain pill so we talked about it and I gave her a RX pain (tramadol) I'm sure it's misspelled... at supper no pain which is good but then she slept most of the night which sometimes she did but been awhile since she did that I can give her one now but will see what she indicates ... otherwise will give it to her in an hour when I go to my room...
we have had some rain during the night a bit cooler today haven't even opened the windows or the doors... but it's suppose to warm up later in the week
there has been a commercial on that I would really like to get if it works as it says... it's a broom that looks like you can clean it easily not that I've ever wanted to clean the broom but it's angled so that it would get in corners easier... and it's supposed to pick up pet hair easily and there is a smaller one for the car to help remove pet hair there...
I kept Shadow in a "seat belt" so he wouldn't get under my feet... most of the time it worked but there was a time when he would get on the floor and couldn't get back up ... he was in the back seat as when in the front he seemed more nervous which then made me nervous
we all do or did what we feel is best for the creatures in our lives...
you all have a great day
