SATURDAY 8/24

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

SATURDAY 8/24

Postby OregonLuvr » Sat Aug 24, 2024 10:45 am

Good morning. Well we had a real downpour last night. Multiple accidents 3 different Motorcycle accidents and 2 car accidents on the freeway within a 10 minute spread. The scanner was hopping. The cause was heavy rainfall, standing water and speed. This was the news this morning.

"Roseburg got well over a half inch of rain yesterday evening, which was one of the highest amounts in the state!"

I was glad I was not on the roads. Especially on a motorcycle!! (like that would ever happen) Today it is still wet out and showers possible. High 73 and it is chilly this morning 52 and foggy but no rain so far.
Good day to just stay in and maybe be a sloth after some laundry and floor washing. Working on finding something to watch on the tube for later.

Evie I have no idea what happened to your forum. These darn computers often have a mind of their own I have found. The problem is I never know if it is me or the computer or Facebook. As long as I can get into my bank accounts I just wait out the rest. Maybe Beth has an answer.
Sheila my Hugelkultur bed turned out wayyyyy better than I thought. I planted 2 bean plants but think I put way too many beans there. The plants grew huge. The reason I planted them was because they put Nitrogen back in the soil as the composting logs and debris rob the soil of nitrogen. Planted a tomato plant at the end and it is huge. So much foliage due to the nitrogen from the beans. Lots of large tomatoes just starting to ripen. Next year I will be more prudent in my amount of beans. And only plant 1 thing of beans with less beans around the poles. My beets, strawberries and onions are doing very well. Actually time to harvest some beets maybe tomorrow as everything is super wet today. We will be warming up starting next Thursday in the low 90's and high 80's for the weekend....perfect.

Been fooling around looking at REELS recipes. Some really good and easy ones I will try. Today I am making Sloppy Joes. So easy and then easy to reheat the filling and freeze what I dont want to eat anymore for a while. Time for some breakfast and a shower.

We've been getting our share of monsoon rains this summer. Most afternoons we get hit. Yesterday it really cooled off when they came through and I had the air off in the casita and RV from afternoon yesterday until I turned it on in the casita around noon today. So nice!

A friend I made one season in Keystone, who then came and worked for me at the motel in Utah, reached out that she'd be coming through this way yesterday so we got together and talked forever. We thought she picked a good time to leave but it looked like while rains had stopped her the skies were dark in the direction she headed. I told her to text me she arrived safely, but I didn't expect it. Lol I felt like my mom talking.

I'm about to cook something with no name and no clue how it'll turn out. Kind of exciting lol All because I have leftover Mexican rice and some ground beef I pulled from the freezer. I'll make some concoction with those as the base.

Karen, I hate having to learn new stuff, but the banking problem was what made me buy this little toy. And little it is: A notebook, but at least the keyboard is easier. Doesn't have so many extra keys that I accidentally hit and never know what happened! I'm still mad at Chase for cutting me off with no warning, tho. Kinda nice that this little baby has a lighted keyboard and doesn't need Windows (it's a Chromebook). Not happy with not having enough ports to connect my printer. Good thing the new one I bought can be wireless. Took my son and I half the day to get everything compatible. While trying to set up, it kept asking that are you a robot thing and had such tiny little pictures to pick from and kept refusing our answers. Had to get the computer store owner to come visit and darn if it didn't do the same thing for him! Glad it wasn't just my frazzled mind! He had to bring the computer back to the store for the tech to fix! Every so often it comes up with the "are you a robot thing" and I can't figure out why. So far, it has accepted my choices of pictures, however.

Beth did have a suggestion - thank you, Beth. .

Evie, I agree. I hate having to buy new computers or iphones because it takes so long to set them up and get them working. Then I always have to remove all the garbage ads and software they include. Usually takes me a whole week of evenings. And just now I am trying to copy some photos of documents from my iPhone 15 to my laptop. I have done this before with my older iPhone 8, but can't get it to work this time. Just called my younger son, and he backs his up to cloud, which I don't want to do. More research, I guess.

Lazy day doing laundry and catching up on some chores. I need to get out and check my radiator fluid and oil before it gets dark here, but after it cools off. Also, need to add a bit of fresh water. I'll dump tanks tomorrow morning before I continue on west. Too hot today, though not as hot as for many of you.

and had to get gas as well premium at that I get points for gas... thankfully 50 cents of per gal helps ssoooo much... only 45 dollars for gas not much that we can do about it... it's something needed...
Karen that sounds great I didn't know if the first year was going to be a good one or if it was period of time for the soil to build up or whatever... you ought to post some pictures of it...
I really want a different lap top but don't want to go through all of that especially without my son in law not being here by my side...
Evie is your son still in the campground that he was in I can't remember now what it was but it seems like you were worried about him might having to move
I read an article about all the fires in the state of Wyoming not doing great at all I don't know if any are contained yet or not... so we could use rain but without the lightening strikes I think most if not all were from lightening
worked on the babies hat as well as a hot pad that I'm working on it's navy blue so hard to see...
I think need to look again but think I am to the brim part of the hat not a stitch I'm done so think I need to go to you tube and see what I can learn
didn't go to the lake party really thought about it but just couldn't make myself want to go down that steep trail

Dang, Sheila, you asked the other day and I forgot when I posted. I think I'm leaving Sept 10th and will be returning to Benson 2 weeks later. Then only a few weeks after that I'll be leaving for Texas. I'm starting to think I should make some lists because this will be the first time traveling without my home. It's going to be interesting to say the least.

Definitely different, Beth. We are spoiled with our RVs. Hit or miss whether good or bad motels, but have safe travels.

Sheila - long story about son and RV park. Old place doubled space rent to get folks out, then eventually just evicted them. Leveled the park, put in new sites with elec, water, etc. meters, installed park models and rent them for well over $1,000/mo plus util. Sites are very close together. Got my son into another old park and we jumped from frying pan into fire. Didn't know all util. were extra: water, sewer, elec., trash (which is $35/mo and it's just a one standard dumpster), so total a month is off the charts! I don't know what I'll do since there are no RV spaces available that aren't even higher. Our little farming/blue collar/senior community has turned into a very overpriced, almost impossible to afford city since contractors have built thousands of McMansions all around us and driven our economy through the roof! Signs of the time, I guess to get rid of the old dinosaurs (us).

Judy, oh, yeah, the phones that do dozens of things we'll never use and don't want. Since there are 4 of us on my plan, it seems like one or the other always needs a newer phone. And as for the cloud, I agree, the whole world will come to a screeching halt if that gets seriously compromised. Give me a nice, old, memory stick/jump drive any day. Ha! I wouldn't have any place to plug it in anyway!
