Chilly Thursday Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Chilly Thursday Morning

Postby Colliemom » Thu Aug 22, 2024 7:14 am

Good Morning. Chilly 46°here at the 45th this morning. Has been cool here these past few days, with temps in 60’s, lows in 40’s. Great weather to work outside or just be outside period. But today starts a warm up for awhile again. I to 80’s/90 by weekend and bit humid they say.

Just been puttering around with outside chores past few days. Got the usual POA chores done and a couple small jobs here at the house. Starting to work in the flowerbeds a bit, but on hold now till cooler weather returns. Looks like a good Diamond Painting weekend coming up since it’s going to be hot. Sharon, enjoy the cool temps as this will head your way eventually. This is my current work in progress.

Judy, you were experiencing frost heaves on that road you were on. Common in the northern areas especially in the northern plans where the ground freezes deep. Keep an eye on the wind forecast now, as you are heading toward the open flat Prarie that I spoke about. You will notice the change as you drive through Saskatchewan west. Once past Swift Current you really notice it. Long stretches of highway ahead . Take a break when you hit a small town. Haven’t heard from Barbie lately. She’s probably busy packing and getting ready to hit the road. I do remember her saying she was heading down to AZ with a UHaul and spending a few days with her brother and SIL.

So nothing else really going on here. Thinking this might be a day trip kind of day. Mackinac. Dogs love it up there. Could go into U.P. Too but we shall see. Have a great day everyone.

Good Morning, didn’t realize I hadn’t posted for a few days until I began reading morning coffee. So here I am today. There is o’cast sky’s about every night around here, so don’t get to see those full moons. Saw several pictures though. This time of year we have the shortest thermometer in the country. Today only 9* between high and low!
My refrigerator quit working. I lost about $100 of frozen dog food. Very unhappy about that! What a mess with everything out on the counter.
On utube, do you order things to see? I just turn it onandwatch whatsthere. I would like to see the train trips that you Sheryl have been watching.
Other than the problem with the refrigerator, my life continues with the same old thing every day. Me moving into the trailer is on hold for the time being. Must take the mattress out as it is way to high for both Hazel and me! The ramp is not built yet also. But I can go up the steps very carefully.

SW Ohio have been enjoying some cooler days and nights and Audrey convinced me to take her out the the state park for a kayak trip though the yellow lilies. My back didn't seem to mind the paddling but complained about lowering one of the back seats and removing Lark's large crate in order to load the Mini van with kayak and equipment. The Roadtrek isn't back from the shop yet. After watching Liz, I know the easiest way to carry kayaks is in the back of a Roadtrek.

I only hope that Barbie is busy packing and traveling and not upset with us for the experience/s that we shared regarding purchasing an older RV. I learned a long time the difference of sharing information to seek outside opinions and insight and just seeking approval. Either way I hope that she is happy the drama of the house sale is over and the adventure of packing and vehicle purchases goes more smoothly. And if we don't hear anything here, someone can chime in from whatever is on Facebook.

Good morning Sue, Tina, Lyn, and all who follow.

Lyn, you don't have to "order" stuff to watch on YouTube, you just have to "search" for it.

About how to find stuff to watch on "YouTube" there should be a "search" box to the right of the YouTube logo when you first open the YouTube page. It should look something like this (it will be at the top-left of the page, with random "suggested" video content links below this search window):

Image

Just type into this search box (not on the image above, but rather on the actual YouTube page) whatever your particular interests are - and I guarantee that there will likely be literally thousands of videos to watch on your favorite topic!

Just a further note: the more specific you can be with your search inquiry, the more specific suggested video links will be. For example, first try "dogs". Then try "smiling dogs". And etc.! :D

And - if those who are watching the "train" videos, perhaps you might consider posting a direct link here, so that Lyn (and others) can go directly to those video/s.

Lyn, if you - or anyone - have any further questions, please ask.

I'm sure our "Tech Guru" Karen can jump in on this one as well to offer more suggestions!

Other than the problem with the refrigerator, my life continues with the same old thing every day. Me moving into the trailer is on hold for the time being. Must take the mattress out as it is way to high for both Hazel and me! The ramp is not built yet also. But I can go up the steps very carefully.
Lyn

Lyn, sorry your fridge quit working. That is a major pain! Sorry, also, to hear that your move has been delayed - I'm sure we would all like to hear details, should you be willing to share.

Anne

Lyn, there are metal steps made for mobil homes and RV's. Some have a deck. Metal steps would probably be easier to move around than some made out of wood. Do a search online for metal steps.

I finally called Directv and disconnected two of my receivers. My son had set up the whole house to be able to record. I never record anything. I wish they would hire people that have english as a first language. I had a lot of trouble understanding what the lady I was talking to was saying. I need to leave earlier for Lafayette so I can go by a UPS store to ship the receivers.

Afternoon All.another beautiful porch day. Garfield and I just sit and watch humimg birds.well I watch and he sleeps! lol

Lynn, I stumble around the internet not knowing what I am doing. I have an IPad and if I watch a site I like I add to my favorites.i don’t pay for YouTube . I started watch Garden Answers years ago and if you scroll right there are many YouTube sites and if join click on one more usually appear. I crossed the Rockies yesterday by Tara in with Jeb Brook and almost had a heart attack. The train went around a curve with about a foot between the train and a drop in the canyon. I don’t like heights . . This is how I find sites of interest to me, Garden answer then go right and find something.lol I know my technical skills make Karen cringe but it work with what I have. Good luck

Maybe Lowe’s or Home Depot has ready made ramps. Just a thought

Good morning. Lovely cool day here today, just a fall tease tho. Showers tomorrow (we shall see) and maybe one today ha ha I never believe them they said today our high would be 68...WELL it is already 74 outside. See why I am a little skeptical of their reports. AND I live right by the weather reporting station at the Roseburg Airport. This weekend predicted high 70's low 80's heck might be 100 ya never know. Next weekend they are predicting 90's so will just have to wait and see what the weather will be. I remain "ye of little faith".

Sheila you asked a couple of days ago when I was talking about my generator if I had to go dump, etc. I dont live in my RV I live in a manufactured home in a park. I bought my own portable generator for our power outages. I sold my RV a few years ago after the fire.

Anne you explained it very well I think. I try to put as many words in the search description to narrow it down as it can be alot of results. I think Beth has the name of the train ride that she found after Shirl mentioned it. I dont pay for Youtube either, most of it is free anyway. Lyn how about hiring a local handyman to build you some steps, they can even make them wider so they would be safer. My handyman built my neighbors a long ramp and only took him a couple of days. Lyn so sorry your fridge went out. I worry more about my freezer as it is FULL. I need to start eating out of it more and quit making stuff to go in it.

Not too much going on here right now. Had Bunco yesterday and it was fun. Today I am looking for some recipes for this weeks dinners. I like looking for something new but not too many ingredients ha ha I used to have a book called 5 Ingredients or Less. Dont know what happened to that thing. I made ribs in my Instant Pot last night, then sauced them and popped them under my broiler. All this was done in 45 minutes, I love my instant pot!!! Heck I love all my gadgets. Will reheat them for dinner. Right now just a sandwich and some chips and salsa.

Karen, I'm with you. I don't pay for anything on YouTube either - there is just so much free stuff to watch on there that I could probably watch free YouTube videos 24/7 for the rest of my life, and still never come to the end of them.

I also second your suggestion on hiring a local handyman! It might get the job done quicker for Lyn, and she could then get her move on.

We're rooting for you, Lyn!!

Rooting for you, Barbie, too - hope everything is ok with you, and you are well on your way to your new adventures!!

Lyn, I agree about possibly hiring someone to make your steps. As to YouTube, i spent most of my time trying to find my password. I only do the free YouTube also. Then I put in the wrong first name into the search box. Finally got that right and he has a lot of travel videos. I was intending to watch the Canada one Shirl mentioned but saw Alaska and watched a train one and a cruise one in Alaska and another train one down our east coast. I'll probably watch every one he ever did. You got good info from Anne and Karen on finding things on YouTube.

I've been in contact with Barbie. Everything going on has caused her to have health problems. She's coming out the other side and hasn't forgotten us. She is leaving this weekend for her brother and sil but canceled the rental truck and will worry about that later.

No frost heave on that road--just lazy road construction. I have come across other tertiary roads that are similar. They figure this road will have very little traffic because no one lives on it, so they do a fast job and don't take the time to level it. Then it also never gets repaired when their are chuckholes because it is used so little.

Much longer, but better drive today. This part of TransCan highway is a divided highway, at the quality level of a freeway, except it has occasional stoplights and no overpasses. In other words, people are making left and right turns on and off the roadway, but there are so few homes and even small towns so not a lot of traffic. A few big trucks, however. Nice, smooth, even roadway, with big shoulders and an occasional small town so places to pull over. So far, there have been a lot of gas stations.

Good evening ladies! It's been awhile since I've posted and we are well. The mornings ere are very chilly, in the low 60s. Yesterday we met two couples for dinner. Today we met dear friends that we have known forever for lunch. Tomorrow, we will pick up a alf bushel of crabs that we ordered.

Sirl, thanks for the places you recommended to visit. Bet, I understand why you don't like the traffic on the east coast. This trip as made us wonder about whether we want to make this trip again. The traffic was just awful.

I hope Barbie is okay. as anyone heard from Carol?

Spell correct is getting tired again. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Good evening, Irmi.

Have been thinking about you and your trip. I have never driven on those north/south east coast roadways (although I did drive from California to Vermont many years ago), and after reading about them, I don't think I would care to.

Is the ocean view rental all you were hoping for?

LOL. Just being nosey, as always.

Thanks.

Karen I think I must have either ran sentences together that no punctuation that I excel in  as I think I was asking Beth if she needed to move to dump I know you are in a house... sorry about the mix up... I could have also said Karen meaning to say Beth..
someday I will have to do a search in you tube for more than how do I make this stitch type of search they do sound like it would be fun to watch... I've watched some of those roads on video's on FB where it really isn't wide enough for a one way and it's two lane and full of S curves those unnerve me ....
glad that you are finding gas stations Judy that was one thing I wondered about when Sue was saying how full of nothing that road is... I am sure that if we but look we can find beauty where ever... I'm sure that there are many of my family up here that wonders when I say how I love the desert it has it's own beauty
Irmi since you took the car and not the motor home what are you going to do with all those crabs? I would love to see that area who will be sort of going on a cruise in a year that departs from NY and goes north up into Canada it's probably too early to see the famous New England colors... it's will actually be the end of Sept..
I some times see things of Carols on FB not sure if I have for awhile but for some reason I will not see some stuff that people post then I will see lots of them... I don't understand it at all
I am glad Beth that you reached out to Barbie I've been worried about her... hopefully she will feel better soon and that she will enjoy her time with family even though she is going cause of his surgery sure hope that goes well
I get recipes from the Mediterranean Dish they sure look good and I have the intent to make them and have a couple the last one I did I think you would enjoy Karen and probably most of us... I liked it... it's called one pot lemon chicken with orzo, spinach and peas... I just did a search and found it by putting that in ... if I wasn't lazy I would go and get what I wrote it down to make it and put it in recipes... but maybe one day I will...
Lyn that actually sounds like a good idea to get some handyman to build the ramp and or stairs... but make sure that they know how to build a legal ramp ... if they don't do it right it might get to steep for you... my son in law made a bridge/type thing or me once it was so nice even big enough I could put a planter on it
Tina that sounds like a lot of fun being on the water...
Sue did you go on your day trip
you all have a great day

Sheila, my RV is hooked up to full hookups here and the casita is connected to water like a house would be.

I got my receivers returned and had an hour to kill so went to TJ Maxx. I was looking for some jeans but I'm not buying some that are already torn and faded. I guess I will have to try a western store and see what they have. I found a pair of jeans for my son at the local Goodwill type store for $1 so maybe I should try there. I spent $50 on dog toys, coffee and cookies. The restaurant we went to didn't have a big menu selection so I had a hamburger and onion rings.

Shiela, I tried to send you the picture of some crocheted door stops but it sent as a message so I put it on my page.
