Halfway Through August

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Halfway Through August

Postby Othersharon » Thu Aug 15, 2024 11:47 am

Good afternoon. Just turned noon here and I’ve not gotten much done so far today. Couple of phone calls from friends and having coffee with each of them. Chores can wait, friends are more important. I saw an ad earlier on FB saying the Grange Fair starts tomorrow. Knew it was coming soon but seems early. A few years ago they extended the days so there would be 2 weekends instead of one and I haven’t gotten used to the earlier opening. We used to go out pretty much every day but since the Covid situation and the fact that some of my favorite vendors decided not to return plus the cost of buying food has gotten so high I just don’t enjoy it that much. My friends that have a tent are working the rv parking so they stay busy with that so there isn’t the time to just sit and visit and watch people. Food wise I usually got fresh cut French fries from one particular vendor and apple dumpling with cinnamon ice cream from another. That was about the extent of my eating fair food! Guess I’ve gotten cheap when I see the prices now. Shirl, hope you had a good birthday. Sue, I think you’re spot on with forecast of what is coming our way. Rain supposed to start Friday night and last clear into possibly Monday. Heaviest on the weekend. So here we go again with the rain! And these cool mornings sure are fall like. Won’t be long before the trees start changing and dropping leaves. And that means lots of raking and bags to the dump. Again when I miss not having a pickup. I still haven’t gotten a hitch on my car to haul the little trailer. One of these days I really should just do it, I suppose. Beth, is Ty still feeling better? I suppose I should get busy with a few things outside and Buddy and I will take a walk a little later this afternoon. Walking at the project won’t be happening this weekend if we do get the rain they’re forecasting. We’ll be lucky to just walk around the block. Read somewhere this morning that 10 minutes on the treadmill equals an hour of going for a walk. Thought that was interesting. I suppose it would depend on how slow or brisk it is. I have Buddy up to about 15 minutes at a fairly brisk walk. With his high energy I would like to increase the time some. Anyway, enough rambling from me. Have a good rest of your day.

Afternoon All,
Humidity is back so will stay in my cool nook. I did get those cupcakes so can freeze and enjoy for a couple months. Just got the 5th reminder for an appointment with the eye surgeon tomorrow. Geeeezzz they must think I an old. lol The surgeon does reconstructive repairs on eyes. My lower lids have dropped and I want the protection of a covered eye. We shall see how that goes. I’m not looking forward to the visit so will wear my BA tee shirt so she will treat me with respect and not like a brainless twit.lol. Everyone stay cool and safe

Good morning. Cool here this morning but will be warming up this afternoon. No terrible heat tho this week 55/84 today and high 70's for a couple of days before the August heat returns.
Like several others have done this week, I am getting my haircut today. Tomorrow I have my appt for my eye exam to see what I need in the way of glasses. So far so good with the cataract surgery, only one more week of 1 drop per day in only my left eye then I will be done!!!!!!

Just did a few housekeeping chores this morning, took a shower, had breakfast and not sure what I will do this afternoon. Depends on how hot it is outside. I never totally believe the weather people. Dont need to go shopping for groceries, I have quite a bit stocked up. My Alaskan fish order came yesterday so thawing a Halibut steak for dinner. I love seafood and it is so good for you so thought I would try this subscription service. I probably spend about the same amount buying local fish each month (hard to find wild caught I dont eat Farmed fish) so thought I would give this a try. I got Halibut, Rock Fish, Salmon in about 6 oz packaged servings. Works for me. I had to make room in my freezer LOL but I got it in there.

It has been quite a bit cooler than our highs last month of 112* - 114*. In the next couple of days I am seeing that temps might dip down into the upper 80's, although no rain in the forecast.

I'll take it!!

Good evening ladies!

Sharon, I hope you are able to get some breaks in the rain to take Buddy out. Sirl, I think your BA shirt will do the trick. Anne, it's about time you are having cooler weather. Karen, only one more week of drops! Anita, I love following your travels.

Steve and I drove for 11-1/2 hours today, leaving our ome in FL and are settled in an, okay only, hotel in a Battleboro NC. Tomorrow we will get settled in our Airbnb in MD for two weeks. We got caught up in serious traffic congestion in GA and that eld us up for over an hour. We are both exhausted.

I wish all of you a good day!

Yay, Anne, it's got to feel great for even a temporary respite. But the worst days might be past for this year (I say as temps here are going up again this week. Hopefully temporarily.)

Irmi, I'd love to come east one more time, but I don't want that traffic. I'm glad you and Steve got through it and will settle in for your 2 week stay tomorrow. I'm going to find out how I feel with my couple week adventure in just the car in September and then for going back and forth to Texas and maybe think about doing more of that instead of the RV. But I'm also considering a couple months in the north central and northwest in the RV next summer. But also considering doing that with just the car. Decisions. Decisions. Lol

Shirl, I know what you mean about all the reminders for appointments. My dentist starts 2 weeks out with texts and emails.

The dealer ship called to tell me my car was ready. My son came and picked me up. I showed the service manager the invoice from the local Chevrolet dealer that showed that the part that they replaced was the same as the one in December. He says the part number is different so it's a better part. Yeah, right. When they brought my car around the service engine light was on. Back in the office to tell them. Who ever worked on it hadn't cleared the light. They really instill confidence in their work. My car really needs to be washed. I don't think it was that dirty when it was picked up.

I stopped at Sam's to get gas and thought about going in but it was just too hot. My car said it was 102. Picked up 6 small crawfish pies from the specialty meat market in Maurice.

Irmi, you and Steve had a long day on the road. I don't like to go more than a couple of hundred miles now.

There was a big storm that moved though tonight and the tv and internet was down for a couple of hours. I probably should go see if the trash can is still standing but I have to fight the cats if I want to go out after I get them in.

today is when the aide and nurse came...they were both late... it seems like it takes a big chuck out of the day and when one is lazy and doesn't start the day till late then one doesn't get anything done... however mom did get a shower not that she wanted it...after all she just had one never mind that it was Friday... if looks could kill when you get the idea... she has been in a lot of pain today so some extra generic Tylenol.... one day I will use the morphine but when it gets that bad I need to call Hospice first and have to be re told how to use it...
started the hat over but it's too big it looks like so I showed the aide the pattern what I took as 1 crochet hook was in fact I Hook that I have will start again I want her to wear it before she turns 1
Barbie needs to come tell us what is going on we are all on pins and needles
the PNW would be a lovely place to spend some time Beth...
heard lots of helo's yesterday as well as sirens... found out today that a rv came down the pass to fast and turned over one died ... so sad .... so many things could be contributing to the barreling down the highway... but they missed two truck emergency stops one is a normal run up the hill till you stop and the other is a Cashe net system ... I wonder if they thought they couldn't use them ??? I do know that net one would take a lot of faith to use... will the nets/barrels actually stop me???? regardless very sad it's a 10% grade on the pass
It's been cooler here as well we got rain again today... been windy a bit as well... but tomorrow it's suppose to be 7 degree's warmer will take that as well... but we really need the wet don't want the fear of wild fires at all
Karen freedom from the drops will be good ...
Anne I bet you totally enjoyed your dip in temps as well... did you do a garden this summer you haven't mentioned it... or if you did I forgot
you all have a great day

Hello, Sheila.

I think you are a true hero for all that you do for your Mom. My Mom and I were never close - I'll leave those stories for another time - and I could never have done for her all that you do for your Mom.

Frankly, I think you must be a saint.

The cooler weather has been an absolute blessing - I actually took two longish walks yesterday (I love walking!) when the temp was only about 84* - haven't been able to walk much all summer, because just too hot - many days in this past July it was still 90* at midnight.

I, too, am hoping Barbie will pop in with good news. Keeping my fingers crossed for her. As I am sure all of us are.

Hope you are having good luck, Barbie!!
