Now It’s Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Now It’s Saturday

Postby Colliemom » Sat Jul 20, 2024 9:02 am

Another beautiful sunny morning here at the 45th. 66°Right now. Was a little cooler when I got up a couple hours ago. Heading to upper 70’s.

Getting down to end of my projects I started this spring. Picked up the piece of lumber I needed to replace the rail top on my porch yesterday, along with a patio block to finish up the line of three I laid down on the gravel from grass to water faucet out front. Will put that in place this morning, as only takes a few minutes. Then wil water flowers here at at sub entrance flower planter, do some trimming out there and mow grass out there and neighbors. That will probably be it for today.

Beth, glad the inspection went well. Barbie, you will get down to the bottom of those pictures before you know it. I’ve gotten rid of a lot of pictures here. Nobody to pass them on to and they wouldn’t mean anything to anybody anyway. Lyn, I was wondering same thing about when you are moving into your new trailer. Tina, glad your were able to get to Doc’s funeral. Nice picture of the 3 of you. Karen, I know what you mean about losing family and friends as we get older. I have lost just about all of mine. My two best friends are downstate the only two I have left and they are 80 and 83 respectively. They have not been up here since back before Covid. Have I doubt they will anymore because they just don’t go anywhere that much anymore. Sticking close to home. I have three cousins, but one lives in PA the other two are downstate, but I never hear from one at all and once in a while, maybe my other one. So it puts me in a dilemma when I have to get legal paperwork drawn up because I have a heck of a time finding an executor, medical advocate etc. I was all set and tell my one cousin passed away two years ago. I am my two medical advocates moving downstate. One is still here yet as she hasn’t sold her house so I’m OK as long as she’s here but my current executor is moving out of state so now I’m back to square one. Meeting with an attorney on Tuesday to lay out a plan and get some of this paperwork started.
Judy, you mentioned wanting to see cousin in Otsego. Were you we go into the city of Otsego in SW Michigan or the county up here?

Guess I had better get moving here. Have a nice day all.

Sue, those temps sound absolutely wonderful. As I posted on another thread, daytime temps here have been brutal this summer. Projects? It is too dang hot to spend more than a few minutes outside. Going for the long walks that I love are totally off the program.

Temps topped out at 111* at my house yesterday afternoon, might make 112* today. Definitely "Barbie Weather" . It "cooled off" all the way down to "only" 80* last night. :?

Can't wait until fall. Hopefully it gets here by mid-November. :?

I guess I shouldn't complain. There haven't been any major-major wildfires near to me this year. At least so far. . . aside from the Oroville fire, most of the other fires have been in other parts of California.

And I am seeing that Oregon fires are being especially bad this year. And Oregon has never been known at the "fire state", like California has.

Karen, you getting any wildfire smoke where you are? According to the maps I am looking at, there are quite a few fires (couple of major ones, too) to the east of you, in Central Oregon.

Good morning. It is a very nice cooler morning here. Sat out on the back deck with my coffee and it was very enjoyable. Will soon have to button up the house tho. Everything is good here so far. Cant really tackle any projects cause I cant bend over or lift anything over 20lbs....kinda limits me. So have been doing my drops as I programmed Alexa to remind me 4 times per day. I will be on these drops for another month after I have my second cataract removed. But I get to taper them down each week thank goodness. It will be worth it tho I hope. Think I will go out and fertilize and dead head some of my flowers.

Anne we have lots of fires going on right now. Some bigger than others but they have been getting a good handle on them early. So no major fires by me. Lots of Level 3 evacuations but so far no structures lost at least not near me. Eastern and Central Oregon are having definite larger wildfires. I keep waiting for it to be smoky like most years but so far we have escaped any smoky skies. Temps remain warm here (mid 90's) so nothing like you and it cools down to the upper 50's at night. So mornings are great but doesnt take long to warm up once the sun comes out.

Had some breakfast and now time to get busy

Good morning gals!

I actually woke up early this morning! 7:30 :o
The high today is 117* so I probably won't be going anywhere. Will probably have to go to WM tomorrow to get some cat food and more Propel. Will put off my laundry until tomorrow or Monday morning since it will be "cooler", only 112* Lows are in the upper 80's.

Romeow has been a real pest lately at night! He knocks things off my nightstand, messes with the blinds and bangs his paws on the closet doors! Drives me crazy! I have been kicking him out of the bedroom when he does that and closing the door. He then bangs on the door for a bit before giving up for the night. Not sure what his problem is?

Will be back at the photos soon here. I apologize to the people in the photos as I toss them in the trash! I threw one out yesterday that I am sure tho, that my mom was grateful for since it wasn't one she would have liked anyways. She did not like getting her picture taken and didn't like how she looked in most photos.

Karen and Anne, be watchful of those fires and the smoke near you! Anne, I can't believe how hot it has been up there for you!

Beth, Rovers Roost Co-op doesn't take any names for the waiting list until October 1st. So I will be in AZ by then so will just be there on the 1st with deposit in hand first thing that morning!
I also plan to sign up for the Escapees Rally in Tucson next March. Have you ever been to one? I will also do their Boot Camp class to learn about how all the systems work and do minor repairs.

Sue, I also don''t know who to have as POA, or executor. I could have my SIL, Julie, in Tucson but she is 10 years older than me. :? I also need to find someone who can hang on to my daughter's stuff until she wants it. I won't have much other than an RV to deal with so I could add Julie's name on the title with mine so it would be easier for her if something happens to me. That is something I will figure out later. Got more important things to deal with right now.

Have a good day!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Good morning from Anchorage!

I've been trying to read every day but until the laptop comes out, replies are brief! Catherine, sorry the travel companion wasn't so great - totally understand!
Beth, glad the inspection went well and now will await your thoughts on probiotics. Sue busy as always. Karen, glad the cataract surgery went well. So nice Tina and Paulette could be with Lori! Whatever else I just typed disappeared. So glad you and Paulette could be with Lori, Tina. Wish I could send those of you who need rain and cool temps some from here! Our plans have changed a couple times due to rain, but it's a beautiful weekend here. Looks like no whale watching this trip - not willing to go back south on the busy highway for one. Traffic has changed in 12 years! Barbie, the biggest problem usually with old photos is no label and no idea who the people are! I've been lucky. Cousins and I even sat with our grandmother and labeled photos she had.

I've been in touch with my grandson all week and yesterday he told me he has to work at the base all weekend - big air show! Given conversations with him and my daughter, I'm thinking this wasn't on his agenda. We will at least have lunch on Monday before moving on.

Daughter is still healing from oral surgery but doing well. Brother having neck issues so had a PET scan Monday and will talk with doctor this coming Monday. Read the report but didn't see anything I understood that would cause the neck issue. :) Kansas aunt turns 95 Monday!

So we are off to find a place to watch the air show - no RVs allowed. Tomorrow plan to go to the Botanical Gardens - something I've missed.

Wishing you all well!

I dont really have the need for a will or trust. All my investments, bank accts, CD's have designated beneficiaries so they just need to produce a death certificate. My house and car are the only other things and I am getting that covered. So no real need to pay a lawyer or executor. I would if I had a large estate or win the lottery ha ha

Back again. Chores all done for the day. Flowers all watered, grass mowed and trimmed at entrance, low hanging branch over our walking/bikng path/trimmed up, neghbors yard mowed. Theywill be home from their River cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest tonight. 22 hour trip back, with two airports thrown in,and an hours drive home. . Long haul. Been gone 3 weeks in total. Got my screen door installed yesterday, but needs a bit of modification. Will do it one day.

AAnne, those temps are atrocious. I’d be putting out a For Sale sign. We might have a bit of high 80’s end of next week thry say. But doesn’t last.karen, sorry about all the fires around you. It was mentioned yesterday on local weather, that we are suposed to have Canadian fire smoke for awhile tomorrow, but haven’t seen anymore about it.

Molly says it’s walkIng time. So better get moving. Her patience level is zero

Karen, rereading your post where you mentioned not needing an executor, that is not really a good idea. Having beneficiaries to all your accounts and such is good. But that info Ned’s to be written down and legal because no bank or other place is gong to accept a death certificate without some other legal documentation unless you added their name to your accounts etc. But there are legal and other things that need to be done and somebody has to oversee them. If you died tomorrow, who’s gonna to notify your beneficiaries, make arrangements with a funeral home to take care of your remains, see that any remaining utility bills, income taxes, credit card bills etc. are paid, notify all the banks, investment firms, banks, have utilities shut off and your name removed from all the online places you do businesses with etc. if you have a good friend that you have asked to do that that’s OK, but that good friend is going to need a power of attorney in order to do anything. Unless you got those bases covered. I have transfers on death in effect for my investments and beneficiaries lined up for all my stuff too, but I still have my house which is going to need to be sold if I’m still living at it and my vehicle is under lease, p,us there will be property taxes, ncmectaxes, remaing bills, utilities and other places that need to be notified and taken care of, so hence my setting up a will and getting an executor, so everything will be straightforward. But lke I said, you may have all this covered, just throwing it out there, based on my experience with those matters.

Barbie, sometimes a lawyer or a CPA if one has had one for a long time, will act as executor. This is what I am hoping happens when I see the lawyer next week.

Sue I do have all those bases covered. I researched this long and hard for our state of Oregon. What other states do I have no idea. My other theory has been "who cares I will be long gone" LOL LOL

And this is me. Just not with Oregon. But especially the "who cares, I'll be long gone." I will double check who I have as beneficiary on a couple accounts only because I had someone on somethings that I no longer want getting anything. Simply, they don't need it and several charities I'd rather see get whatever I can leave them, as little as it may be.

Ginger picked me up early this morning and we went to a lavender farm. It's the task end of their season, but Ginger cut her own lavender and found a few other farm made products still available to purchase and I actually bought a liquid fabric softener made from their dried lavender. It was the last bottle. The owner has problems with scented products like I do and it works for her so I'm hoping it does for me also. Otherwise I'll gift it to Ginger or someone else. From their we went to a farmers market the owner recommended and both managed to buy from some vendors and for a small market, I will return.

Anita, my doctor suggested I stick with a low priced one from a legitimate company. So that's what I've order. Funny that today a lady was selling a probiotic tea and I asked if it contained tea and she said not enough to cause any problems. I told her I'm allergic and that's the wrong answer. Lol

Anne, the heat has been the worst I've experienced here, and I'm hoping all the years to follow won't be as bad. I've looked into finding a summer location in the north, but haven't found any place with prices I'm willing to pay. And kind of like not working as much. And I do like it here. Time will tell. And I just might have to take some trips into the mountains here and there.

A storm just passed through (I hope it's done). Power has tried to go out several times, but the longer was only about 10 seconds. Ty wants to go out but he doesn't realize it's still raining. If i opened the door, he'd come right back in. He's now settled in my lap.

Barbie, it can be dangerous for you to put someone's name on your RV or car while you are alive. Ditto if for soe reason she or your brother declared bankruptcy. That is because if someone sued her, they could attach your property while you were living in it! You don't want someone to take it away from you while you are alive. Beneficiaries are OK, because those only kick in after you are dead. In any case, you really need to check with a lawyer, but for now, just keep things in your name.

Sue, I am going to Otsego Lake State Park, but only for one night to see cousin and his wife. Next day, I have reservations at Aune Osborne at the Soo, then into Canada to head west on TransCanada Hwy.

Went to my son's condo for the day. Very sad news at their house. Dog that I dog-sat the week before last has been losing weight and doing a lot of sleeping. Anyway, on Friday, she refused to get up or eat or drink, so they took her to vet immediately. Vet took a lot of blood and biopsied one lump, but he thinks she has lymphoma, which has a very short lifespan in dogs. They will know for sure early this coming week. Vet also gave her prednisone and she was better today, even playful and going out for a boat ride, but they are not running her, or allowing her to swim in the lake, or even chase balls until they find out results. She is only 7 years old and a very sweet and friendly dog.

Back to say, Sheila, I'm so sorry about the death and the health problems in the family. I always mean to say something but end up writing a book and entirely forget. We are all of the age when family and friends are leaving us and it's never easy.

Judy, I hope they find another, less scary reason for the dogs quick downhill. Maybe just missing you and all the attn received with you.

When I read what all you guys do I realize how much a slug a bug I am... it was one of those days my #3 dd and I are trying to work things out so that we can go to the funeral... my friends husband is doing much better... and I think we can be very optimistic at this time... so if she can get the time off from work we will drive out a rather quick trip though my youngest is leaving on Friday for UT.. the funeral is on Thursday...
looking at a stitch for a baby hat it's really pretty but it sounds confusing I think I may look for another pattern
it's been hot up here sounds like Sue is in the area if you don't want hot to be... we did have thunder and enough rain to know that it rained...
we will hope that the normal CA burn won't happen this year...
I need to give thought to taking care of stuff like you all mentioned or my kids will have issues... even though at this time all I have to speak off is a little bit of money in checking and savings account and the fifth wheel...
you all have a great day

Just after midnight and am yawning so I will hopefully be asleep soon!

I realized I was lower on cat food than I thought, so I did go WM this morning. I was lazy today so I didn't get to the photos. There's always tomorrow....

I did call my SIL. She said it is fine to use their address for what I need, like driver's license, registrations, etc. They are flying up to MN in a couple weeks to visit her brother there and then will be back a week before David's surgery. I guess her son and his wife will be back from their 3 month long honeymoon by then and will also be staying at David and Julie's house for the surgery. He is a nurse and so is his wife so they can help too, if David needs any after care. Julie says it will be laparoscopic surgery so he shouldn't have too difficult of a recovery, other than needing pain meds for a bit. So that is good. I want to get a few personal things taken care of while I am out there. Still planning to take a U-Haul trailer out there with my storage stuff and putting it in a storage unit in Tucson. One less thing to deal with when I move out of here.

Judy, thanks for the advice, and I hope the dog will be OK, at least for awhile.

Off to sleep now...
