Sunny But Breezy Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunny But Breezy Saturday

Howdy all. Late morning here in northern Michigan. Currently 41°. We hit 64 on Wednesday before the cold front came through in late afternoon. Once it passed, the winds turned NW and temps nosedived during the night. Was 37 when I got up and still dropping. But stopped and did creep back to about 40. But very strong winds made it feel much colder. I’m loving this weather, although not so much the wind. This is the way fall should be, but over the years it has warmer up more. I grew up with crispy, cold falls and I miss it when it gets too warm. It feels like “up north” when the falls are chilly and there’s a bite to the air. A Time to prepare for winter, put up cords of firewood, enjoy fall walks, fires in the fireplace etc. Time to start slowing down from the faster pace of summer. I always loved and still do, wearing flannel shirts, warm coats and hats to be outdoors. We had a wood insert in our fireplace with a cooking surface on it, and it always smelled good coming from out side to a pot of chili cooking on it, or a roast or soup. We baked potatoes on it, heated up dinner rolls and other things.

Just finished cleaning my kitchen, bathroom and dusting. Ran the vac yesterday. So that’s done for awhile. This was clean the cupboard doors etc. day. Didn’t take too long. Spent tine outdoors for a couple days, finishing up chores and also ran a rope line down my property line on the west side. I’s 360 feet from front to back and that defines the line now. Have a bit more I would like to do, but whether it gets done now or spring, will depend on weather. Also put out of couple of glittery candy cans at front for Christmas while weather was nice. Have them covered in plastic for now. Am painting the last Christmas cutout too.

Was interesting reading the posts about dog flea, tick and Heartworm meds. Mine are on Interceptor for Heartworm. One thing that needs to be watched regarding these meds, is if they contain Ivermectin. The following breeds or dogs who are mixed with these breeds should not have any meds with Ivermectin. It can be deadly to them.
Australian Shepherd.
Border Collie.
Collie.
German Shepherd Dog.
Miniature American Shepherd.
Old English Sheepdog.
Shetland Sheepdog.
Skye Terrier.

Carol, glad to hear there’s some improvement with Bill’s issues. Hope the eye injections will help some too. Barbie, sounds like a very successful day. The more people who look, the more word gets around. Keeping fingers crossed. But don’t be disappointed if nothing develops right away. With a holiday coming, people are busy with other things. And more snowbirds come after the holidays too. Anita, I find those same questions on a couple of U.P. Travels sites. People don’t read previous answers, just keep repeating as you said.

Those of you who have been discussing hearing aids, might like to read this article from my Audiolgists. I have read this elsewhere as well, about hearing loss and dementia. One of the Audiologists has a PhD and she has traveled all over the country giving talks to both the public and hearing specialists about hearing and hearing related issues. https://www.audicare.com/blog/using-hea ... HlY4X2BaRM

Gas keeps dropping here too. Down to $3.03 where I get gas. Don’t need any right now. But I do need my lunch, so am going to sign off. Have a nice dsy everybody.

Good morning Sue, I love your description of fall! I do miss the crisp fall days and smell of the fallen leaves and crunching sound as you walk thru them. Of course the colors too! I just don't like what comes after fall! If winter only lasted a month, I could deal with it. But 3+ bitter cold months is more than I can deal with! Altho, here I deal with 4+ months of scorching heat.

I am thinking of reserving a motel room in Blythe again in January for a couple nights for Quartzsite. I really doubt I will get there with an RV by then. I want to check out the Women's Rubber Tramp gathering on the 11th thru 13th. I will miss the RV show but that is OK. I did that last year. I like perusing the tents with stuff for sale. It should be a little less crowded there the week before the RV Show.

I am lounging in bed this morning. Every Saturday here at noon they have a BBQ at the main clubhouse for $5 so I plan to go to that later. Two weeks ago when they had the first one, over 600 people showed up for it! That is a lot of burgers!!

I also need to clean up the sale stuff and figure out what to do with it. Most will go to the local thrift store. Also need to reprint the For Sale sign out front since it has gotten beat up looking from the dust and rain, even tho I covered it in plastic. We had rain again here last night. Sunny today.

It is so nice to have a quiet mini-split in the living room now. The other one was so noisy and irritating! Glad I was able to get that replaced!

Have a good day!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Progress on running new line for the laundry room/rec Hall bathrooms to the propane tank today. It runs along my site line so I'm not parking my car by my site until all is finished. And I want to use those washers again. They were held up because of all the rain. I believe the manager called the propane company today as they need to come out, hook up, etc and test that all is good. Since it's Saturday, I'm guessing they'll come out Monday. Ty was happy to watch but really wanted to go out and get in the way lol

After going out for Mexican food 3 times over the summer, always wanting to get chili rellenos and had no luck, I just did a search of dinner of the local restaurants down here and the first two I checked have them and at a good price. I think I'll treat myself to lunch one day soon.

There aren't many spots open here now. The regulars are coming early this year. I think one couple won't be here till closer to the end of the year but every day more of the regulars have been arriving. One of Ty's favorite couples arrived two days ago and he finally got to see them. It's so fun to see his excitement. His whole body wags.

Sue, I don't miss the cold part of winter. I miss the snow. But I do not miss the work brought by the snow. One thing I like about when I spend winters in Arizona is that I almost always get to see some snow, even if I have to drive a short distance. Heck when I start at my casita in the winter I always got snow there once or twice. It's so beautiful. But I like my Texas winters, so probably won't see snow this year.

Speaking of Winter, here is an interesting outlook on shorter days and the Winter Solstice.

https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_ ... 3508863534

I have never minded winter or taking care of snow. With today’s equipment, it makes things much easier. Heck, they even have power snow shovels. Being out doing snow lets you get fresh air and exercise. With today’s clothing, there is no reason to be cold. There is a saying, those of us and the Norse people who spend time outdoors have, “There is no bad weather, just bad clothes”. And it’s the truth. You have to dress for the Weather. Granted, some days driving can be a challenge as can be getting around. Slips and falls on ice happen. But so do things in warm climates and weather. But we all have our likes and dislikes. That’s what makes us unique. Winter is my time to get into things in side that I don’t want to do when it’s sunny and nice. So like the article says, I’m ready to start anew when spring comes. And laugh at the snowbirds who come home starting in March, when snow should be melting and temps are warming up but not the 70’s yet. They complain cause it’s cold. They don’t get any sympathy from those of us who stayed through Winter,

Good afternoon, 54 damp and rainy right now We had a beautiful day yesterday so I dont mind the rainy day today. Load of laundry in, Henry vacuumed my bedroom and bathroom so better go swiffer the floor in the bathroom. I have a light that needs replacing in both bathrooms vanity mirror so tomorrow will see what stock I have and replace them. The bulbs need washing anyway so good excuse to get that done.
Had my fish and baked potato for lunch. Probably wont need dinner, except my Portuguese donuts I am going to pick up soon. Never had them before so kind of anxious to try them, well maybe just one. Was going to go to the Farmers market today but the weather didnt encourage that, might go to the indoor one at the grange tomorrow, we will see.
Just a lazy Saturday for me.

It's a breezy, occasional showers day here. Clearing in about an hour. I'm laughing at our weather people calling this an "impact day" and making a big deal out of it. We have had 0.65 in in past few days! On way to allergist to have Chris's patch test checked for reactions, it barely drizzled, like lowest wiper speed. On way back almost enough to call rain! So we are home, inside , I've walked 30 min so far, and plan to enter last stamps into Evernote, get a load of clothes done, vac and mop kitchen. Steaks thawing for supper. That will cover my day, once I walk to finish my 10,000 steps .
I love fall , ESP with a gardener to pick up leaves!LOL
Have a good weekend

Sue, ever since I had heat stroke, my body has trouble with both extremes. I had no clue it would effect me in cold, but it does in both. I admit I always had trouble in cold, though. As a child I would be all bundled up to go ice skating or just outside playing, and my feet would absolutely freeze. My mom tried extra socks, etc. Nothing worked, so maybe my feet are predisposed to disliking cold lol. Everyone always thought I was doing something to make it happen, but I wasn't. We'd take the layers off and my feet would be ice cold to the touch. All this said, I'm not against cooler weather, but don't want extremes either way if I can avoid them.

Karen, I don't think I've ever had Portuguese donuts so will be awaiting your review.

Good afternoon/evening!

Cloudy day in the 40s. Frosty nights. Clouds cleared a bit to see snow on a hill the other day. Have a couple college football games to watch this evening.

Sue, that article on hearing aids backs everything my audiologist explained to me. Even though I am mostly alone and don't watch TV until evening, I still wear mine every day. I need all the brain I can salvage! Sounds like a nice turnout, Barbie - it will happen. When we were in a hurry to sell a house, it always took awhile. The one time we weren't in a hurry, it sold in 5 days to neighbors down the street. Boy! Did I do some fast house hunting in an unfamiliar town! Karen, I looked up the donuts and can't find anywhere except Seattle area that has them. Probably just as well. :D Regular gas is in the $3.95 range right now.

Anita, I too looked up the donuts online. Not to buy but rather I wanted to see how hard they are to make. I was surprised to see they appear not that difficult. I cook very little for myself, but some of you who do like to cook I think can easily find recipes online to try. I bet they’d be really good.

My review of the malasadas donuts. Very good. I got half dozen, that is plenty for me. They aren't huge just right in my mind. I got the filled ones. Three with chocolate, and three with macadamia nut custard. Then sugar and cinnamon coated. Alrighty now......they are good. Not as sweet as a sugar donut. Even the dough isnt super sweet but just right in my mind. Very light and flaky. When I bit into it there was no oozing of the filling. Just lightly filled, I like that instead of being overwhelmed with filling AND when I met them in the parking lot the dang things were still warm LOL I was good I only ate one, the macadamia nut custard one. Tasty. She and her husband are hawaiian and recently moved here. So she is trying to start up her business from home. I will buy them again. There were several cars there picking up donuts.
I looked them up too, just so I could see what they were and how they were made. I wont be making them but I will be buying them again.

Karen I had to look up Portuguese donuts and saw various kinds. The ones with custard filling looked particularly yummy. But now of course I'm craving a warm donut of any kind. When I was growing up there were several small bakeries in town and one would sell them from their back door on Sunday evenings. It was a wonderful treat especially after sitting through a long scary sermon about the wages of sin!

Beth we had tacos for lunch today, first really good ones in a long time. I don't think I've ever had chile rellenos.

Sue, that was an interesting article on hearing loss. I'm going to have another test done but definite at another place and I'll ask ahead of time how they do it! Barbie keeping my fingers crossed for you!

I've been reading about the strange disease going around in dogs. All of mine have had a cough but they only did it a couple of times except for Emma who coughed for a little longer. Really scary. I think I'm going to call the vet and see if I can get some antibiotics to keep on hand. I doubt they will but will at least try. Ir takes so long to get an appointment now plus none are open at night at least not dependably open. One is supposed to be open until midnight but it varies. https://www.today.com/health/mystery-do ... na125553It

Karen you posted right ahead of me and the donuts sound wonderful! I doubt I would have had your will power of only eating one while they were warm.

Sue, I thought I posted about your hearing link but I must not have. It's so true. I lost much of my hearing in my early/mid 30's and it's declined more the last few years. Originally I could hear some things without, but the other day someone knocked on my door and I answered before my hearing aids were in and I couldn't understand a word. I'm grateful I got hearing aids early in the process and know it effected me psychologically, but not at all like it would have without the help of aids. They've been a lifesaver. I also was lucky in having an excellent audiologist originally. I've had some not so great ones and one I left before the end of my exam ( but yours tops my experience, BJ). I've watched seniors (when I was early in this) with problems with their hearing aids be dismissed by their audiologist and told they needed to get used to them. Wrong. If they don't fit right, you won't get used to them. I became an advocate back then for a couple senior groups and accompanied people to dive off their appts. (That all started because it happened to my father in law). Generally my hearing aids go in with my first walk outside on the morning and stay in until I ready for bed. It's time for me to get a new exam (and probably new aids) but I'm fighting where to go since my audiologist moved and whether I want to try here or wait till I get to Arizona in the spring. Most people don't understand that I won't get any discount with the new, less expensive options. Those aren't available for those of us with more loss. But prices, while high, haven't increased as much, maybe because they were overly expensive when I originally got them and prices didn't increase as much as more people were getting them. That said, I have a feeling these next ones will hurt. I try not to think of how much I've doled out on aids in 30 plus years, figuring I've gotten new ones about every 3 years.

My last note... If they aren't doing what you expect or aren't comfortable, do not accept those things.

Slept in more than I wanted this morning, but after eating something, I took out the trash and then started on my refrigerator door. I've been keeping the old door taped to the refrigerator so I could run the freezer and keep stuff safe there. Once I have it taped in place, I cannot open it, so have to wait until it is critical. I am getting tired of putting food in a cooler with ice. Can't get it here so have to run out a few miles every day.

Anyway, I took the old door and set it up on my rear dinette. My goal for the day was to remove the trim piece on the top of the old door so I could remove the wooden panel to put on the new door. The instructions tell you to remove the three little screws on it, except mine does not have screws, but it does have holes to lift up several clips. Tried that and found it would not come off. Looking more closely, I discovered that there was glue along one edge, making it clear that instead of just clicking it on, someone at Fleetwood decided that it needed to be glued!! The result was that I ended up using several flat-head screws and a couple of old paring knives to try to scrape along the line of glue. I ended up sticking the screwdrivers in the clip holes and just prying until the narrow panel broke into pieces. Good thing this was the old door! It took me forever, and there are still a couple of glued-on pieces I need to work on tomorrow.

I was then able to very easily unclip the top panel on the new door and insert the wooden front panel, but i gave up after having problems with the last couple of inches. (The wooden panel matches my kitchen cabinets and the door is made so that you can change out the panels as you choose to.) One of the next door neighbors offered to help, so I will ask tomorrow. Then all I need to do is try to remove the top pins that holds the door into place and I will have a new door installed!! Hope it will be easier than the top bracket. See the photo below that shows the remaining glue and the pieces of plastic that remain. I think I may need to sand off some of the glue. I feel like calling Fleetwood and chewing them out!

That sounds like a job Judy personally I would never have even known where to begin
I have heard to dementia can follow hearing loss I can tell with mom that she isn't always on top of it but she was very adamant that there was no reason to get aids as she wouldn't wear them ... it's her call and at 97 it's not a hill that I'm going to push
those doughnuts sound really good would order them... would indulge in them my favorite doughnut shop in in SLC has the best Bavarian Creme donuts here we don't have stand alone bakeries although to be honest I've heard on one but not sure what they sell and it's always so busy when I drive by which is rare because it's just off the square a few buildings and it's so hard to park anywhere in that area... so haven't been to them... I'd love a good donut used to make them have a really good recipe but haven't made them for several years... they have potatoes in them so a spud doughnut
we had a friend stop by today was so good to see her been a long time she move away a few years back ...
talked myself out of going to the store so going to have to be careful so I have enough to last till Monday
no idea what to have tomorrow ... I made sweet and sour chicken the other day which is a dish I really like but really do't like them when they are heavy with the outer part this one wasn't that way... if you look up stay at home chef you will find the recipe
it's close to time to adjourn to the bedroom you all have a great day

Just after midnight here. The wind is really howling out there tonight! Just went out to check on my "free" pile in the driveway to make sure it didn't all blow away. I just had to move a couple things up against the house and out of the wind.

Put everything else away from the sale before I get complaints of junk in my yard!

Went to get my burger at the BBQ at noon and sat with some friends. Burger was really good! Later in the afternoon, I went to bring some cookies and cream puffs to those friends and they invited me to go with them to a small pot luck get-together for our neighborhood (I hadn't heard about it). We stopped there and chatted with those there and had some sliced turkey and other goodies people brought. So I had some decent protein today. I guess the lady who hosted the potluck plans to do that every Saturday evening for whoever wants to show up. I know other neighborhoods do that too. I am always up for free food!

Just read and watched TV this evening. Oh, I had ordered a new 2" gel/memory foam mattress topper and it came last night so I opened it up this morning and aired it out in my porch all day. Put it on my bed tonight so am hoping it makes a difference for my back (my lower back has been hurting lately too) and helps me sleep better. My mattress is getting worn out so I figured this would be a good fix for now.

Back to work tomorrow (luckily working with my manager and not any new stylists!). Then Monday is my shot for my sciatica. I hope that works! One less thing to worry about.

Those donuts sound really good! I stop some mornings on the way to work for a chocolate donut at a local bakery. When they are fresh out of the oven they are warm and soft inside and crispy on the outside! SO good! Now I have chocolate chip cookies and cream puffs to get rid of or eat. I will probably bring some over to Dave and Debbie tomorrow evening. Still have a lot left! :o

BJ, I have read about that disease with dogs dying in Colorado. There was a big dog event that was supposed to take place last week but was cancelled for fear of spreading it around to other dogs there.
