Tuesday Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Tuesday Morning

Postby Colliemom » Tue Sep 26, 2023 6:57 am

Good Morning. Still dark out there as I write this. Temp is 56°. Mornings are pretty much in low to mid 50’s now. Highs are going from 60’s to 70’s and back again, but steadily inching downward more and more. Fall is definitely upon us.

Barbie, sorry the deal fell through. There’s a buyer out there, just needs to have things fall the right way. Beth, hope your tooth hangs in there till you can get it fixed. Interesting that you are getting slammed with food orders this time of year, when things usually slow down. Shelia, safe journey as you work your way home. Nice you are getting to see family and friends, even if briefly.

Enjoying the conversations on credit cards and interest rates. My credit union offered a 24 Month CD for 5.10 and a 1 year one for 5.4%, late last fall, the which I took advantage of and earlier this summer they had a 5.09% for 9 months, which I snagged. That deal is still going. I’m hoping it continues, so when the 1 year one I have comes due in a couple months, I can lock into that.

Looks like a house cleaning morning today. Shouldn’t take long as I ran the vac yesterday, so just need to dust and do kitchen and bathroom. Might be some scattered showers around too. I don’t care as I’m caught up on my fall chores for now. All my annual flower pots are dumped out, hose out and put away, outdoor chairs etc. in the shed, washed the last of house windows outside yesterday, gutters are cleaned out for now, Fall decorating done, took the blower and cleaned up pine needles and debris out of backyard, front grass is mowed, as is sub entrance. No more till leaves come down. Need to mow back yard though. This sounds like a lot, but it was spread out over the past few days. Taking advantage of nice weather. So now I can time to take some fall color drives as the leaves turn and cut out the patterns for the Christmas display out at sub entrance. Will take time to get them painted and ready. Just now finished the ones for next month. So out they go either Sunday or next Monday as we turn the calendar again. Should take the blower and blow leaves off the Assoc. walking path sometime this week. Need to replace a broken fence rail in the split rail fencing that runs the length of the pathway too. Will do it all at the same time.

So, that’s about it here at tbe 45th. Have a nice day everyone.

Good morning, 52 here this morning but skies look partly cloudy and I could see a few stars. Showers are predicted for today. Yesterday was our rainiest yet here recently. My friend got here after lunch and I am enjoying a good visit. She said the drive was good despite the rain. I fixed dinner last night and it was good a chicken mushroom dish, roasted potato, and salad. She brought an apple pie she baked with a new recipe and it was very good. We are going out and about a bit today, then she wants to go to In n Out Burger for lunch LOL she said she cannot ever go to the one in Medford as there is always a LONG line. They make them fresh and they are good and CLEAN as they have many workers in there unlike the other fast food places that dont have much staff working. So I dont mind going to this one and it is only right down the street from me. Not sure what dinner will be yet but I will come up with something light. Might make some tortellini chicken soup with garlic bread, and pie. Emma is having a great time playing with Chloe (her dog).
I have been up since 4:15 but we did go to bed earlier than I usually do so had a good nights sleep. I must remember to take a couple of pictures today. I always seem to forget to do that.
Barbie sorry to read that they couldnt get financing but they are getting really tight on loaning money and the interest rates are really high. Not the best time to buy a house I guess. Hope Sheila gets where she is going. I use Google maps also, I love it but I do like it to speak to me. I have it on my fancy screen in my car rather than the navigation that comes with it. My phone connects to the screen wirelessly and I have Wifi and Alexa in my car ha ha So I can just keep the phone in my purse. Text messages show up on the screen also but I dont look at them because I am driving !!!!! Occasionally I also use Waze in busier cities or in case of a detour it helps quite a bit also. I dont use my Garmin at all anymore, between my car and my phone I just dont need it.
Later this week I think I will be tearing out my garden as I am pretty sure our warmer weather is over. I do have tomatoes coming on half ripe so lets hope those ripen. For now tho, I am just enjoying visiting with my friend so no work for these couple of days.

I let Frosty out at 7:30 this morning and at 8:30 he was coming across the yard with a rat. He wanted me to let him in the house. Thanks but no thanks. Guess he thinks I'm ungrateful. lol He put it down and Possie took it and she wanted in the house.

We have a small chance of rain today. If it doesn't rain I think I will go mow in Maurice this afternoon. I tried to start the push mower yesterday and it wouldn't start. Grrrrrr I hope I don't have to bring it to town again.

Barbie, sorry the sale fell through. Houses were selling fast here before the interest rates went up. I haven't been watching the listings online recently so don't know if sales have slowed down. I use to get something in the mail wanting to buy my house every week and those have stopped coming.

66 degrees and rain predicted. Got sprinkled on at the soccer game yesterday but not bad. Stopped at Safeway to pick up 'bargains'. Just looked at next week's ads. I bought a couple things yesterday that required purchasing 4 of each for the sale price. Fine by me. Next week's ad has the two items at $1 less than I paid and no minimum number to buy! Alrighty then.

Barbie, I think people forget to do their homework before they want to make such a big purchase. My neighbor wanted me to sell him the Sling so badly, but now it isn't in the budget! I think a couple of you said you got frustrated with jigsaw puzzles. I meant to tell you they now come lettered on the back so you can sort them by section - not my thing but I can see why people would like that. Karen, glad you are having a good visit. Sheila, I used Waze for navigation on my last trip - told me hotel was on left side. I don't know how many times I went around blocks, but it was on the right and sign was rather small! I only found it because I switched to Google maps!

The shelving for the patio closet came yesterday so will put that together while baseball game is on. Made a 3-bean salad and got out a pork tenderloin for dinner. My brother had 2nd round of chemo yesterday. They gave him a weaker dose plus anti-nausea meds. Said nausea usually starts third day. Wish the hospital had told us that before we took him home!

Barbie, you bought your house as a full-time property. And you are currently living in it full time. Shouldn't it be grandfathered into that when you sell it?? Not allowing you to sell it as you bought it seems like they are unfairly taking away value from you.

I think you should bring this up to your realtor and also putting together something to the association to request that grandfathering. Worth a try, anyway. The point is that the rules of the game have changed since you bought your property, which does not seem fair.

Went to the Columbus Zoo today and took some adorable photos of the new baby gorilla. This is the one that was born in July from the mother who the zoo thought was a male!! Big surprise when they found her with a newborn. I chatted with some employees and apparently, that 8-year-old gorilla came to them from another zoo a year or so ago and had had not illnesses or injuries, so they never had a need to completely examine her, and the previous zoo said she was a male, so they went by that. Cutest photo was when the baby was playing with her toes and trying to suck on them.

Luckily, today wasn't very busy so wasn't too stressful on my back.

I got a text message from USPS saying that my Home Depot delivery was delayed due to an incomplete address. They sent me to another page to put in the correct address. Then needed a credit card number for the charge for re-delivery. That card was not accepted so I put in my debit card number (can you see where this is going??). That was also not accepted. I started wondering what the deal was. Then I got another text message from FedEx saying my dishwasher was just delivered. Uh oh!!! I immediately called my bank to close my debit card, and then called the credit card company to block that card. Then, since I had put my address on that site, I called our park security and asked them to check on the dishwasher I got delivered and make sure no one came in the park that didn't have a good reason to be there. Also called Gloria next door to keep an eye out in case anyone stopped at my place and was messing with the box, and to call security if she saw anything suspicious. Probably was worrying too much about that but it cost me $500! I went straight home after work at 2. I was thinking I needed to find a couple guys to get the box up the steps from my driveway and put it in my porch for safe keeping until I can get it installed. So, when I got home, the box was up on the deck by the porch door and the gate to my deck was closed. I called security to see if they moved it up there for me and they had! I thanked them profusely! They are awesome!! So I was able to just push the box inside the porch thru the open slider.

Luckily, I have my cash tips and my tips on a special debit card that I can use until I get my bank debit card in the mail. I need to contact a couple places I have bills coming due this week and let them know the card I have autopay on is no longer valid, and figure out another way to pay for now. At least I figured it out before anything bad happened. Those scammers are very good at what they do. I am usually very careful about things that don't seem quite right but this looked so legit!

Judy, those of us full-timers here were grandfathered in for the new "90 days out" rule but it specifically says that whomever buys in here after March of 2022, can only be here for 9 months. They are very adamant about that. No exceptions. So, yeah, that is certainly throwing a wrench into selling this place but nothing I can do about it. Just hoping one of the snowbirds renting here this season will decided to buy a place here, which is much cheaper than renting. Rents go for about $1500+ per month, whereas the HOA is $450 per month.

Just chilling here tonight. Not sure of my plans for the next 3 days yet. Might still go up to Idyllwild for a day trip. Need to also call the plumber and see when he can come buy to remove the old dishwasher and install the new one.

Just posted some gorilla baby photos in General Area. Here is an article that describes how the mother got to the zoo and why they thought she was a male. https://www.cbsnews.com/pittsburgh/news/sully-columbus-zoo-thought-gorilla-male-gave-birth-baby/

thought for awhile that I had lost the adapter for my charger to hook into the computer but finally found it ... had actually given up on it as it wasn't where I thought it would have fallen off at (in the bag with the computer) started to go get the books that go into the computer bag and put stuff away when I saw something in the binder of one of the books...hmmm what is that ??? go look and it's my adapter :o so glad as I didn't want to go find another charger...
Beth Linda and I met at this place I really enjoyed my meal... they had different sides that you could choose to go with a sandwich... I got a half sandwich that was a turkey with pecan cream cheese and cranberry sauce... it was so good!!! and the salad was a penne pasta with cucumber and onions... it was really good will have to find a recipe for it and make it one day totally enjoyed visiting with Beth and Linda
so sorry that the sale fell through Barbie ... you don't own the ground there do you? it's really hard to get loans on that type of property
you all have a great day

It was great getting together with Sheila and Linda. It was a new restaurant to all of us and I'd go back also. But best was getting together and I hate to say none of us thought to take a picture! Shortly after I got home I had a text from Linda upset about that. Our brains collectively missed that.

I got home and after walking Ty and a short break headed to work. It wasn't as busy tonight, but that's partly because I had a coworker for the last 3 hours of the shift. I'm kind of liking doing most of the cooking as whoever cooks share the tips with whoever delivers. Since we have smaller staffs it's not bad to get a few extra dollars. Yesterday we shared 3 ways and I got more money than tonight 2 ways. It's never a lot but it's still nice for the little extra.

Off to bed. Off tomorrow but lots to do, including a visit with my friend Conni. I won't have any other full days off before leaving Sunday to my sister's, so want to get organized. I was planning to take mainly leggings but now the temps are showing warmer weather coming for those days. I don't trust them so will take a mixture. Sucks because I have no real luggage and was hoping to get away with minimal things to pack. Oh well.

Barbie, I received that same text this morning. Luckily i found out online that it was a scam. Makes me so mad that we have to deal with people who want to steal from us. It makes it so hard, but you have to be suspicious of everything now. I think the tip might have been that USPS was probably not the company delivering your dishwasher. I’m guessing it was instead a delivery service used by the store you bought the dishwasher from. I don’t think USPS delivers dishwashers. They say we need to slow down when receiving a message like you and I (and many others I suspect) did and not panic until we’ve taken the time to thoroughly think the situation through. I hope it all works out OK and you were able to correct anything that could cause future problems.

I didn't think about the USPS not being legit until I got the other text from FedEx. I normally would have looked more into it but was at work and wasn't thinking too much about it.

Ann, glad the info was helpful. These scammers are always coming up with new ways to scam people or phish for information. It is hard to keep up.

Sheila, I do own the land under my house and the little yard around it.

Glad Beth, Sheila and Linda all had a fun visit today plus a good meal too!

Forgot to post about it but got call this morning from Ohio Immunity Health Center. (Or something like that). They Wanted to verify some medical info about my immune system. So I asked which of my doctors had ordered this study, and they could not answer. Said my doctor would be contacted after I gave them the information which was a real red flag so I told them no way!!

Thought this was at least a creative new ploy.

Barbie I guess I am the eternal pessimist. I dont answer texts or give any information to emails or texts. I always go to the site ie: USPS they dont send texts like that. So going to the sites and going to alerts or messages within the site solves that problem. I get those all the time from FedEx and USPS, my Banks, Amazon etc And when I go to the sites there are never any messages. And I am always a "WINNER" at Costco, Walmart, etc Sure I am. Sorry about that as it is a really big pain to cancel my cards and wait for a new one.

If I was at home when I saw that, I probably would have taken the time to look into it more, but being at work, I was just not thinking about that so much (lots of distractions, etc). Live and learn...
