Sunday September 17

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunday September 17

Postby Shirlv » Sun Sep 17, 2023 10:41 am

Morning All, very cool, sunny day so far but showers coming. Nothing exciting to post, still packing stuff. Can’t believe how much easier it was 5 years ago. Been searching headbands on Amazon. Letting my white wispy thin hair grow out from the decades pixie cut. I look like an old hag. My plan was a short bob with sides pulled back and fasten with pretty Barrett’s. An ugly brown headband is now keeping the side wings under control while they grow out. Barbie stop shaking your head. Lol I avoid pizza but do love it. Haven’t had any in months but thought it’s Saturday so ordered a Domino large hand tossed with sausage onions and mushrooms to be delivered. Never done that before and will not again. Total cost was $30. Wow. But I am worth it. Lol Be safe

Ate two pieces and the rest went in the freezer. Oh yea had a glass of wine. Best Saturday night I’ve had in a long time

It's still morning here but early enough for a small glass of wine with lunch, no left over pizza here though but it sounds good. Shirl I admire your diligence with packing. All I seem to manage with organizing is good intentions! That porch looks so inviting I bet you spend a lot of time there. it is a blank canvas waiting for your plants. Maybe we could book Barbie several appointments and she could start her travels by working her way around the country.
I just got 5 mosquitoe bites while grooming Pippa! I killed one but there must be more. They come in on the dogs so I need to take a towel out and flip it around their body before letting them inside. But then I run the risk of being bit while outside. This is the worse they have been all year. They used to never bite me but that changed and they now sometimes make a large red rash around the bite.

Sandi what was the name of the device you carry with you when you walk your dogs. I need something. The guy down the street turns his dog loose to run several times a day. He ignores the dog catchers warnings. The dog along with two others that I don't know if he still has, attacked one of my dogs while we were walking a few years ago.

Good morning gals!

I have grown my hair out several times so I totally understand that in-between stage frustration! I use regular clippies and sometimes flower clippies. And BJ. I will be traveling with my hair cutting kit. I also got a small screen room where I can do my haircuts outside. :D (also good to keep the bugs off me!)
Image

I still have one more big piece of pizza in the fridge for lunch today.

I was outside at dusk a few months ago on my neighbors porch for awhile and got about 5 mosquito bites. Now I won't go outside after sunset. We have a lot of West Nile issues out here so I don't want to take any chances.
Judy, I know you tried the gadget that "burns" the bite site, but have you used the ones that supposedly suck out the bite? I think you said you got one of those gadgets too.

Nothing much happening here. No news on the house. The new lady at work has some issues. I hope she can work thru them with the new manager and stay because I like talking to her. We have a lot in common.

No golf to watch today since the golf season is pretty much over. Only one final tournament left and I think that is next weekend. The best of the best playing in that one. So I guess I will have football on instead. Not really interested in any particular teams but having it on in the background brings back memories of when my dad and I used to watch the Vikings play on Sundays way back when. I had a disturbing dream about him last night so I need some better memories to override that! :o

Have a few things to get to today around here. The scalping didn't happen on Friday on my side of the street so probably tomorrow. Then next week they will reseed the lawns and within a week the grass will be coming up nice and green! Almost time for the snowbirds to come back. The park and activities officially opens the first of November but there will be some smaller events happening in October as people come back before then and get things started on their own.

October 1st is when our new Spectrum contract begins so we will have extended cable channels, the sports channel, and free high speed internet. The HOA will go up by $20 per month, but we have a 6 month grace period so that won't go up until next spring. I am currently paying $70/mo for my own wifi so I can cancel that so that will save me $70 per month! :D

Now, if it would just cool off here now! It is still just hovering over 100* and still humid.

Sophie has decided that my shoes are a fun new toy to drag around the house! Luckily she doesn't seem to be chewing on them but I think she likes the laces and drags them with those.

I went thru my list of RV things I have saved on Amazon the other day. There are a ton on things on there but I realized that I have like 3 or 4 of each thing saved, so a lot of repeats. Most are things that are items "as needed" for later like organization items that will depend on what I need in a particular RV. Some things are necessities like hoses, etc, that I will need right away. So all, in all, 80% of the list items are not something I need right away or maybe not at all, besides all the items that I have saved multiple times as I came across them on Amazon.

I started looking on maps to see where all I want to go once I get on the road. I started getting overwhelmed, so I think I will just plan a month or so in advance. I know I will spend the winters in Arizona between Q and Tucson, and then as the weather warms up, will explore northern AZ and move to NM and explore the northern part of that before heading up to Colorado. I want to spend at least a month up there. From there I don't know. Maybe to Minnesota, or maybe north and west. I will figure that out later. I will stick to the AZ, NM, and CO plan to begin with. I guess it all depends on when I finally get out of here! Sometimes I feel like I will be stuck here forever! :( Like the Eagles song goes... "you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave".

Beth, when are you done with your job? Have you seen Linda's new RV? Not sure she likes it. That is the problem with buying sight unseen. Very risky.

Sheila, enjoy your travels and visits!

Have a good day!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

BJ, I think you’re referring to the Vipertek. I got mine from Amazon. It’s a “stun gun” and flashlight combined. They also have a Vipertek taser.

Barbie, you have time to use your artistic talent to design a sign to advertise you traveling salon to post when in a campground. Lol

Every time I pass my favorite pizza place in Lafayette I won't stop until I lose 5 pounds. That has been going on for months so I may never have pizza again. I can't have wine with my lunch or I would have to have a nap.

It was raining again this morning so I'm glad I finished the mowing yesterday. I didn't go see how much we got but the yard and pasture are getting green again. I was worried about my oak tree but it's probably 100 years old and has seen droughts before. I'll be glad when they lift the burn ban so I can burn papers and boxes. I haven't heard if they ever got the forest fire under control but it burned over 30,000 acres.

I was looking at old pictures and I use to wear my hair longer. I don't think I could stand it long enough for it to get long. Now the front want to stand straight up unless I use a curling iron on it.

About all I have done today was wash my sheets and cook a hamburger for lunch. I made a one potato salad. If I make more than that some of it will get thrown away or fed to the outside cats. I might should have had something besides a hamburger. We have a Meetup Meal at a hamburger place tomorrow night. That restaurant was open when my husband was young. He said when he first went there the city limits started there. Now the city limit is at least 15 miles South.

I toured a couple of the newer Coach House RV's at the rally. Sometimes I think I would like something smaller but hate to give up my slide and closet. They want a fortune for the newer Coach Houses. Some are more like vans.

Barbie, I have tried the thing that supposedly sucks out the mosquito poison, but the one I have just doesn't seem to suck anything out. BUT, this thing that heats up the mosquito bite and destroys the poison really seems to work: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Y3X5JDZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

You put the end on the exact spot of the bite and then press one of two buttons. One is for 3 seconds and one for 6 seconds, but I have been just using the 3 second one. It heats up, and it definitely stings, so 3 seconds is all I can handle. I have been using it a couple of times when I first found a bite and then one or twice the next day, but usually they are not red and are no longer itchy by second day. Most of you know that I have had serious problems with bites getting huge and infected, and then having to go to urgent care for antibiotics and prednisone, but I have not had any bites go past a couple of days since I started using this device.

One last note on the Bite-away device: I am on a CLL forum and one of the members with CLL is a doctor who says he has been holding a hot mug of tea on mosquito bites for years! The only problem I see with that is that you might burn a large area. The Bite-away has never burned me and the spot it heats up is only about 1/4 inch in diameter.

Finally got good enough weather that my son took me on a two-hour plane ride to a nearby town. He has his license, but has to put in so many hours each month and part of those are to fly to an airport at least 50 miles away, land, then take off and return to the home airport. He has taken his two teen daughters, but that was when he had an instructor with him, so I am the first person he took out alone. He was visibly nervous, but went through a ton of checklists and was very careful during the trip, but I enjoyed looking out the side window. Lesson learned is that next time I have to bring a booster cushion because I could not see out of the front window because I am so short!! I did take a lot of photos, though, and sent some back to my son.

Good evening. Home sweet home from my visit with Laura. Had a good time as usual. Nice drive home today only 2 1/2 hours so goes by quickly. I like how my new car handles on the road and i am getting the technology down, at least most of it. I like the mileage I get too I got 31.2 mpg on the way home. Usually in town I only get 26 or 27 which is still good.

My painter is coming to finish painting the outside of the gutters to match the trim and deck rails tomorrow morning. I think he has been procrastinating LOL actually he has been pretty busy this summer and is leaving for Arizona for the winter the end of October and going on vacation for a week soon so guess he figures he better get to it and do it.

Will need to pick up a few groceries this week, mostly fresh veggies for salad and stir fry. I dont need much so will go inside the store instead of doing pick up. And of course laundry will be on the agenda. Such an exciting life I lead. Taking me a while to catch up on the posts and I was only gone 3 days ha ha

Forgot to add had a fun breakfast with Laura Maydahl, (some of you might know her from an RV forum on Facebook. Met her and Alice at the pancake house early as they have lots to explore in the Pacific Northwest. They are here with a large group of RVing women at a convention at the fairgrounds. Laura made some beautiful keychains and gave each of us a couple. She said if I sent her a picture of my dog she would make one with Emma on it. How sweet is that??? Really enjoyed both of them.

I had to force myself out of my room today went to Breakfast in the breakfast room then back to my room... tried to zoom in church but couldn't get the zoom to work will need to work on it again not when it's time for it to start ... so thought I'd call the local church see what time meetings were .... no one answered the phone... so gave up read scriptures watched the pod caste and took a nap ... I also have the knots half way across on the Swedish Weave... and I either found my problem on the scarf or counted right or it was lighter and easier to see or all of the above  I am now to where I have two rolls to do on it and the tassels so should be done when I get to see my niece....
I went to get some fast food went north passed several places not fast food type and to far past when I saw them to consider stopping so got turned around and went the other direction... saw one place that I like but it's Sunday and they are closed on Sundays and did want steak so went on down the street turned in at a mall area no food went through walmart parking lot to get to the Taco Bell couldn't do it so had to exit and so up the street a bit so had Taco Bell for supper there is a pie I bought at Perkins' last night so will eat it...I really had to force myself to go kept thinking I can make do with what is here bk bar bagel that I snagged from the breakfast room chips pie nothing sounded like it would do the job
need to watch the time for chat since it's in a different time zone I'm not changing the time on the computer so that will help me remember...
so all in all I did nothing today ... tomorrow morning when I load stuff up I will look at the map and see what town to put into the phone so I can find a river road... almost think it will be too far to go in one day but not sure and it's too late to check in with sil my nephew lives in a sorta general area of what I will be going through but he is a teacher and back in school... he was at his parent's this weekend so guess I won't be able to see him... his brother lives in Ill and was at his parent's house as well they were in a golf tournament all four of them
I'm curious what your thoughts are amongst the stuff on the desk (note paper, pen, even an order for maintenance) was an envelope for a tip... yes they cleaned the room after the previous guest ... they don't clean the room while you are here unless you requisite it... which I didn't so why leave a tip??? it probably won't happen but curious what your feelings are ...
been watching stuff I don't typically watch at mom's food network ID got to watch relative race (don't have the channel it's on but I like it when I can see it)
think that pie is calling my name
you all have a great day

Thank you Sandi!! I hope I never need to use one but feel I need some type of protection. It's a shame but people seem to be less inclined to take care of their dogs.

I remember Laura very well and see her on FB. She taught school and had a beautiful dog we all loved named I believe Jed. He was poisoned one time at a GTG and almost died.
I'm glad you are getting used to your new car, it takes awhile with all the technology 'stuff'. We still have issues they can't seem to fix on our Rav4, other than that DH is happy with it, me not so much. It feels too small especially inside the divider between the two front seats is so small there is no place for my purse and it isn't that big.:)
