Saturday and we have sprinkles!

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Saturday and we have sprinkles!

Postby MandysMom » Sat Sep 02, 2023 11:31 am

I've been up a while. Waited to see if east coasters popped in. For a change, it's me first. It's a grey cool Northern California morning with a few sprinkles already. Will sure tamp down fire season wherever rain drops hit. Next week back up to 90's, but for now, we enjoy a taste of fall. I can't recall last time we had sprinkles this early in September !
I have laundry to finish and other chores to get back to. Hired a friend to help next week to help finish kitchen that has been so tough with my back. Might finally get done.
Thinking of Liz and the others as they begin cleanup from the hurricane.
Hope all enjoy a good Labor Day weekend. Seems odd to me to have it so early. I thought I recalled when growing up it was 7th of September or later, depending on calendar. As long as congress doesn't mess with Christmas, New Years and my birthday, I guess I'm ok with it!

Just turned 12 noon here with lovely weather. Heat and humidity forecasted to move back in tomorrow for most of the week so need to get outside today and get some things done. Buddy keeps digging in the yard and despite my watching him the minute my back is turned he digs. I’ve tried several different deterrents but he just finds another spot to dig. He’ll turn a year in a couple of weeks and I haven’t flushed him down the toilet yet so guess that’s encouraging!
Lyn, my deepest condolences to you for the loss of your son. And Anita, glad your brother is doing better. Cancer sucks. Yesterday after our walk I decided to take a ride out to Black Moshannon SP and drove along the lake and bogs. I wanted to see how Buddy did in the car for a different route and longer ride. He fussed at first but then settled down. Realize we really haven’t really gone anywhere in the car but to our walking route so wanted to see how he’d do and he seemed to do fine. The ranger station was super busy so I didn’t stop to see where it’s allowed to walk dogs so I’ll do that one day when they’re not dealing with a holiday. I used to have a map but it’s long since gotten tossed so need to start over. Any plans for the the holiday? I haven’t any, just another day for me. Judy, I remember on 80 they have overnight parking for rv’s. The last rest stop before crossing into PA had one and I remember thinking how nice it was. Only reason I saw it was because we pulled in to grab a bite to eat when I made the trip with my son. I did remember to say “rabbits” the other night before Buddy and I turned in for the night. We’ll have to see if it helps! Irmi, hope you’re able to save your food! Beth, good that your air unit is fixed now. I hesitate to crawl up on my roof now too. If someone else were here I might do it but otherwise I think it’s wiser to not do it. Sue, hope the new vet can help your pups. I’m kind of starting to question some things with my vet and wonder if it’s the right fit for us. Just not sure yet. Anyway, enough blabbing from me. Hope you all have a good day.

Good morning a foggy and falling rain to start our morning off. I will take every drop we can get. Will warm up to around 80 this afternoon, okay by me. I have housekeeping chores to do this morning also. Clean bathrooms, swiffer floors and bake a cake LOL

Henry did his vacuuming again this morning. So glad you all got a chuckle out of my excellent typing skills ha ha hey anytime we can smile at someone's post whether it be typo errors, silly sayings, experiences, I am all for it. Sometimes too much seriousness in the world today. However, I did reread it and chuckled myself ha ha You all are too funny.

Hello all. Just stopping by while I am on my “break”. Haven’t been doing a whole lot, but did run vac and wash kitchen and bathroom floors, threw the kitchen rugs in the wash, took out the trash and took the two flower planter boxes off my porch rails. Few minutes jobs. The petunias are getting scraggly, so decided it was time to part ways. It’s going to be hot for the next week, so am not watering flowers too much as the growing season is winding down. Tine to put out fall decorations. Right now I am tracing out the patterns for the Fall Duds for the Dress Up Darlings. This will be the ones for October into November. Since it’s going to be too hot to do anything outside, it’s a good time to work on them inside. But first I have to get them cut out. I spent part of my morning over at another neighbors talking for awhile.

Velda, glad to see you are feeling better enough to start tackling things again. Yes, it’s a bit funny to be warmer than you are. But the one day, it didn’t make it above 70 and yesterday was a pleasant 78. Beautiful dsy with a good breeze. Day has been pretty much cloudy, and it hasn’t decided if it wants to rain or if it wants to let the sun come out. Right now we have some faint sunshine. You can feel the atmosphere is starting to warm up. I had to be 90° weather that we are supposed to be having starting tomorrow. That is way above our normal for this time of year.

Guessing I will go and take the pups for a quick walk around the neighborhood before things start to get too warm. I just need to go over the tracing lines one more time with a pencil because sometimes they come out a little bit faint and it makes it easier to cut them if I can follow along darker lines. My tracing paper is beginning to wear out, but I just placed an order for some more patterns and tracing paper yesterday, so that probably will be here toward the end of next week maybe, being that we have a holiday.

Good morning to all - had a couple of exciting days here. Yesterday it stormed all day. Though we only got a couple of heavy short downpours. But half the streets in Las Vegas looked like most rivers would like to look. Cars stalled all over the place due to high water. Sever Weather Alerts over the phone all day. Some roads got sink holes and of course drivers drove into them. The mountains got very heavy destructive rains. And the destruction from Hilary a couple of weeks ago was just starting to cleaned Also exciting - we got our new mail box lock on Thursday, but no keys...Told me "Your old key will work" Don't think so. Also maintenance put the lock in upside down. Yesterday they called me they had found the keys. And they work and the lock is right side up. So my affair with the mailman is over. It was fun trying to be at the mailbox the same time he was to get my mail. But all is well now.
Also we got a new TV for the den (sewing rook, spare bedroom, Bills TV watching room, cause it is always warm in there) I is a Roku. Got it at Best Buy 50" , delivered and set up for $238.00 Good deal. And son came over in afternoon and showed us how to do a few things on it. But will be a learning process. So have AppleTV with MLS soccer app set up for him to watch Miami play - his favorite player Messi plays for them now. Will we be able to get the hallmark channels on it? And I put message to son about local channels. Every city but Vegs seems to be available.
It is raining here again now. Very muggy but only in low 80s thank goodness.
Need to go back and read last few days posts. Been busy playing with new things. Did remember to say Rabbits several times though.

Carol good to see you on here. Vegas always has issues when it rains but I am sure these problems are huge for them. I have Roku TV's and the others have the Roku streaming stick. I subscribe to Philo app $25 month. I get all the Hallmark channels, A&E. Lifetime, OWN etc you can google all the channels they have. They DON'T have sports or locals. They are an entertainment channel only. Roku channel has so much to watch News, sports, movies, shows, tv shows, original series for free It keeps me busy every afternoon LOL I normally have YoutubeTV so I can get my locals but since none of my shows will be on for a while due to the strike, I cancelled it the beginning of summer. I added Paramount+ (CBS owns it) I watch most of my shows on there anyway in the fall but with the writers strike who knows, They have a special on right now instead of $60 a year it is half price $30 with the promo code SPORTS they have sports on there. So I decided to try it. I also have lots of the free channel apps Pluto, Tubi, Peacock etc Youtube has some great videos on how to use your Roku.

Congratulations on the new Roku tv, Carol.

I'm sure that once you get used to it, you will love it.

I cut the cord for my cable in favor of Roku over 12 years ago. At that time, there were "only" about 300 (three-hundred) channels available. Fast forward to 2023, the number of free channels available through Roku are, literally, uncountable.

I have the Roku "hockey puck", and I don't pay extra $$ to "subscribe" to anything.

GO, Roku!

Been relaxing at one of the Ohio Turnpike RV parking areas that have electric hookups and a water fill and dump station. Slept in this morning, but read until I left at about noon. Stopped at grocery store to get some blueberries and raspberries, then tried to get lunch at McDonalds, but the truck lot was full and the regular lot full as well, so went on to a Blue Beacon and got a much-needed truck wash!! They have raised their prices to $49 for bigger motorhomes, which mine is just over the limit. That is still a deal considering the fact that it is getting harder for me to wash my vehicle with my left shoulder and trying to find a place to wash it. Son helped me in mid-June, but that was last wash. Relatively short line at Blue Beacon, I assume because of the holiday weekend, but I was still able to heat myself up a pastrami sandwich and eat it before I had to drive in for my wash.

I need a haircut, but had problems with last two haircuts where ladies cut the back of my hair really short, like half an inch long!! Sides were OK at about 2", but the difference in length really did not make any sense, especially since I told the second one NOT to cut the back too short. Guess I will have to watch next one and be a lot more specific--maybe tell her not to cut the back at all. It is still only about an inch long.

Sorry to hear about your son, Lyn. Did he have a wife and kids? Cancer can really be miserable.

Another busy work day today. I expect the same tomorrow. And the heat came back today. Mid 90's and will be upper 90's the next couple days. Then it should be back closer to normal again.

Just wanted to check in. Time to head to bed.

The elephant upstairs was constantly moving over my living room until after midnight last night! I finally got to sleep about 2 and up at 6:30. She/they is still going strong today! Not sure what she's dropping/slamming on the floor, but I jump every time! LOL! I'm leaving Tuesday for the Hells Canyon trip and coming back Friday so, hopefully, she'll be finished by then. I need to get the sound set up better on the 2nd tv in this room and then I can hang out here in the evenings.

Opened the slider about 7 this morning and the smell of smoke hit me. They have some lightening started fires over on the Olympic Peninsula. This was a day of TV sports and genealogy. Brother called again today - he's in good form after he got out of the house and to the casino! Maybe he just doesn't tell me when he loses, but he seems to most always win! Eating more and getting some strength back. Good to have him like this before the next shoe falls.

I should have gone through some papers as my brother let me know that there is a county rebate on property tax but the request for it ends on Monday they will have a drop off for it but no idea where to find the information will need to start going through piles of paper work to see if I can find it ... and then figure out what to do to get the form printed out...
just didn't expect to have to do this and now just a few hours time to do it in... bummer her taxes are so high that we really need to do whatever we can ... guess I will take a pile of it and so through it when I go to my room :|

Good late night!

Was fairly slow at work today for a Saturday but I suppose due to the holiday weekend. A lot of people probably headed to the beaches or the river. Was nice for me because I was able to sit in between most haircuts and rest my lower back so I wasn't in a ton of pain today. I am really liking the gals I work with. No drama at all and they are very understanding of my issues. Makes things there much more relaxing and comfortable. Some of my old customers are surprised to see me back. They were told I sold my house and moved.

Hit a small rain storm on the way home but it didn't last long. I haven never noticed this before, but the sun was out while it was raining and the spray coming up from the tires of cars in front of me were the colors of the rainbow. Looked like little rainbows splashing up from the tires. Once the sun was covered by the rain clouds, that went away. I guess I haven't been driving during a sun shower before. Pretty cool looking!

I guess we got almost 2 inches of rain yesterday in less than an hour here! The flooding was actually worse than Hilary because it came down so fast in such a short time. Most of it has drained off now. The dew points here have been in the 70's for the past several days so it has been really sticky and oppressive. That is supposed to get better in the next day or so but then the winds will pick up quite a bit for a few days. Maybe with all the recent rain, the dust won't be so much of an issue.

Judy, yes, be sure to be very specific about what you want. My challenge out here is with Mexicans who don't speak English. I have a very limited Spanish vocabulary so I use what I call "sign language" using my hands and fingers to help with communication. Luckily, the gals I work with all speak Spanish so I can get them to translate for me.

Sophie wouldn't have anything to do with me for a whole day after clipping her claws. But today she has forgiven me and is wanting attention again.

Am very sad to hear that Jimmy Buffet passed away. Love his music!

Off to bed early since I am tired tonight. Have a good night!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)
