Good morning. Raing and 57°. Showers and 67 predicted for today. Am watching Weather Channel to see what the Hurricane Idalia is doing. Hoping Irmi, Liz, Birdie and everybody are all hunkered down. Being Thty have been through this before, , I know Thry are prepared and ready. Stay safe gals. Karen, sorry you are dealing with such intense smoke. Hopefully the wind will shift or something and clear it away for awhile. Thinking of my neighbors on their AK cruise and hoping they aren’t getting into smoke from the BC fires along the way.

Shelia, that is so nice that your family is an important art of Grand Teton and that your homes will be restored for future generations to see. And your mom’s pictures will be there as well. Judy, sounds like you are gathering a lot of information and seeing so many places where you ancestors were and are. I’ve got to get back I to my research this winter.

Errands to run in town this morning and I think breakfast out. My breakfast larder is down to bare bones right now.

Dogs had good checkups yesterday, Molly’s eye pressure is staying pretty much same. Will go back again n two weeks. Piper it seems, has hormone issues, hence the nighttime bed wetting. So vet prescribed estrogen. Will give her two pills a day for two weeks and then if they seem to be working and she tolerates them, she will gradual loss reduce the dosage. So I’m a happy doggy mom at the moment.

Good morning, for some reason I was up at 4:30, but slept well so just got up. It is a cool 56 so opened the doors and windows as our AQI right now is down to 55 WAHOO we will only heat up to 78 today so maybe the smoke wont be too bad in the afternoon.
Had a good eye exam yesterday, probably one of the best I have ever had. So got a bit stronger prescription and ordered my glasses from Zenni (of course). I got 4 pairs for $176 One progressive, one reading, one distance and a pair of distance sunglasses. Such a deal. Nothing fancy just practical.
My vision has only changed a bit in almost 3 years so hopefully it stays the same. My Retina doc cancelled appts for yesterday afternoon due to the intense smoke (me thinks he is a wuss LOL) actually he said he was concerned about his older patients with breathing issue etc I didnt really care, now I dont go until Sept 22nd as he is going on vacation LOL LOL
Emma goes to the groomer tomorrow morning so I am sure she will be excited about that news ....NOT She is very good but she would rather be home.
Sue glad to hear you like the new vet and the dogs are getting treated the way you think they should. I found a great vet here too and it really makes a world of difference. Emma doesnt have any problems thank goodness, she just goes for her wellness check. I dont buy my Heartguard of Bravecto from her and she doesnt care. I order it online from a company my friend used to work with overseas and gets her meds there for her dogs. Amazing that USA requires a prescription when other countries do not. It is way cheaper for sure.
Sheila glad you had such a wonderful day and your Mom enjoyed it also. Very historical for your family.

Woke up from the lawn mowers and weed whackers this morning but had a good, long night's sleep. Was SO tired yesterday!

Now I need to get going, clean up the kitchen a bit and call Dave to come over to put in the microwave. Need to do more cleaning around here since I have neglected it for a week or so.

Will be pushing 120* today so no going outside at all!

My friend Cathy lives in Crystal River, FL and is in the direct path of the hurricane. She and her husband have been on a cruise in Greece and came back early to get their house secured. They are right on the Gulf and have been flooded out before from storm surges. I am hoping they don't get flooded again. I wish they would move inland. What I experienced here was just a sissy storm compared to what they are up against. I can't even imagine dealing with that!

The rest of you in Florida in the path of this storm, stay safe and hunker down!

Good afternoon friends! We have been securing and moving things since yesterday afternoon. Thank goodness for bungee cords! Taking all the potted plants into safe locations has been troublesome, but we do what we have to do. We're only about 4 plants from being finished. But they have taken a toll on us.

On a good note, we are no longer in the cone of the hurricane. It is starting to cloud over and is a little breezy, but it will be close to midnight before the hurricane hits the gulf coast. We'll be staying in the casita tonight to be on the safe side. We've had lots of offers to go to friends houses, but think we'll be fine here. I'll try to update tomorrow.

Irmi, praying you will be safe! Thinking of all Florida friends and family. We have lightening fires starting in the area, but we haven't seen the predicted rain yet. Smoke has rolled in heavier but AQI hasn't changed. Wind has been whipping all morning.

Sheila, what a great day at your home place for you and what wonderful things they have planned! I'll have to visit there again one day. I have to give the owner of this place a lot of credit. I've had too many different insects and with ants crawling in around patio door, I submitted a maintenance request Saturday. They had someone out here yesterday having a look!

ER did a good job with my brother yesterday - should have been done when he was there last week. He's home and feeling better.

I just had a quick chat check with Liz. They evacuated up to her brothers house in GA. She said Birdie is sheltering in one of the two buildings the Village has for convention people and family reunions. Has kitchen, dining, small rest room and guest rooms.

Anita, glad your brother got to go home. Home is always more restful. Hope no fires come close to you.

Sheila, I remember when you took me on a tour up close and personal of your family’s old homestead. It was the highlight of my visit in the area. I’m so glad your mom was with you and you both were given special treatment by the organizers. That will, I’m sure, be a day to remember.

Made it to a campground not too far from Sarnia, Ontario. I have an appointment tomorrow morning at the local county heritage center with someone who can help me find information. I have some, but not all I want, and there is a family that might be the parents of my maternal grandfather in this area, but I have just not been sure. One problem is that some of the names don't completely match up. I wish the U.S. had such staffed heritage centers in all of their counties!!

Speaking of smart animals, I like to watch animals in zoos and elsewhere doing the things they normally do. As you know, silverback gorillas are the leaders of their group and responsible for the behavior and safety of their troops. One at the San Diego Wild Animal Park, there was a silverback male and several females just sitting and relaxing with their backs to a low stone wall in a row. There was a very young gorilla and a slightly older one (toddler and juvenile, maybe?) running in a circle behind the low wall and then in front of the adults. The slightly older and bigger juvenile was having fun chasing the younger animal, and it did look like their play getting a little out of control because of their size difference. On one of their racing trips around the circle, the silverback male, just calmly reached out with one hand and grabbed the juvenile who was at full speed going past him. It was amazingly slick and fast, and I was impressed at how skilled the adult male was at grabbing the kid without moving any other muscles and keeping his cool completely. He put the older kid down, and play stopped for a while after this very efficient parental act.

No TV tonight because of trees. Most campers like a lot of shade, but I like an open area for satellite. At least I have internet, and a good book or two.

We got a 1/4 inch rain yesterday and another 1/4 inch this afternoon. It rained some more after dark. A drop in the bucket compared to what we need but anything is better than nothing. I haven't heard if it rained where the big fire is.

I decided it was about time for a hair cut so went this afternoon. It was getting wild and I have that rally in two weeks. The lady that cuts my hair has a son going to college in Lake Charles. He told her that horses and cattle evacuated from the fire are at the coliseum at the college.

Sheila, I loved reading about your visit to your home and how they welcomed you. That is so wonderful. I'm glad you finally got over there.

The mobile RV service wasn't able to make it here today but say tomorrow will happen. I hope so.

I'm terrible but I didn't take any pictures and if I'd thought about it our friend that was with us could have used my phone and taken some... I've been impressed with what they did with grandma and grandpas house a couple of years ago they took the pink house off it's foundation and redid the foundation they said at that time (my brother happened to be there when it was being done) that it was totally square had expected to find it not so and was concerned about what they would need to do... last summer they painted it to the best they could get to the original color it looks so much better new roof as well and the crack was fixed... never thought that I would be able to drive into the yard of my own home again...
those that have been there if you remember past the TAMoulton barn is a house on the east side of the street not directly across but down a bit not even sure if we went passed it perhaps if we went the whole way but don't remember anyway they are going to restore it doing the same thing and use the house as employee housing as well if I understood the article correctly the Moulton Cabins that are being sold to the park (it was the last private owned property in the area) the way the zoning is I guess in the county if that had gone to a private purchase could have changed everything forever... with condo's ect able to go up I'm am sure that the owners lost a lot of money in the transaction and grateful that they were willing to do what was best for the whole picture... it will be interesting to see what all happens over a period of time...
they have what they call "rangers" demonstrating different skills they have a wash board and show how to wash clothes they have clothing there that people can put on to take pictures with the Teton's in the background they also have the type of toys that the kids would have played with in the late 1800's even a lariat to try catching something with... I can see it expanding to other skills as well and they have "rangers" in other area's as well over at the ferry but I don't know about the other barn the difference is the houses are still standing were TA's isn't it was a good day finally thought of the term I was looking for last night if I haven't lost it again hmm that I seem to have done
today was a bust although I did finish the one scarf I just need to do the fringe on it and the other one..
and I worked on the one that I set aside to finish the children's scarf's .. I started to work on the fringe of the Swedish Weave.. so bummed I got a new piece of material so I'd have it when I was able to start a new one and when I was doing some sewing on the machine I did the bottom of the monk's cloth to keep it from unraveling while working with the material I noticed the salvage edges... they are unraveling so irritated don't know where my receipt is even were I bought it either JoAnn's or Walmark

This is an update on the hurricane in our area:

We worked our butts off yesterday moving the potted plants into the music room. I put a tablecloth on the organ bench and a few of the smaller pots are there and the larger potted plants are on the floor. The storm itself never arrived here until 3:30. It's been raining off and on since then with gusty winds. The highest gust was 29 mph and so far we've had less than an inch of rain. We could have showers throughout the day. We also were in a tornado warning until 5 this morning. I think that was the worst part of the storm because it was dead calm and had lightening. Hopefully tomorrow we'll put the plants back out on the patio and pergola. Then I'll be able to get to the organ.

Glad you didn't get much wind or rain. My friend in Crystal River wasn't so lucky.
