Morning. Chilly 44° here at tge 45th. Next week Friday is the first day of Meteorological fall and it’s feeling it. Was thinking yesterday while I was walking the dogs and the northerly breeze was blowing, that in about 12 weeks, we will be heading into snow time. Although we can have snow in October too, but it doesn’t stay. Looking pretty nice this week, with highs in low-mid 70’s. Maybe some rain Monday night.

Got a call yesterday from a friend who’s camping about an hour and a half away. Coming to visit later this morning. We are going out to lunch. Haven’t seen each other in two years. She lives in SW part of MI. She’s like me, busy with projects all the time.

Worked on the windowproject for awhile yesterday and got the frame done except for a bit if tweaking with the saw. Decided to mow while the grass was dry, since both today and tomorrow are busy. Looks better out there. Weeded the flagpole flowerbed too. My weed whipper broke, so that stopped that project. Had to put more string on it and apparently didn’t snap the spool back on right, so when I started it back up, it popped off and the spring inside went who knows where. Looked but can’t find it. So, will go see if I can get a replacement. Needs a new spool part anyway. Karen, love your philosophy on getting “old”

Martha, hope they get the fire under control. Maybe that tropical storm will help. Was reading yesterday, where people in Yellowknife, the Capitol of the NW territories of Canada have been told to get out, as wildfire is headed that way. 33 million acres have burned in Canada so far this year. Equal to the size of the state of Alabama. NWS has now confirmed 7 tornadoes from Thursday night’s storms downstate. Biggest was EF-2 in Lansing.

TV Mass coming in shortly, so better get myself ready. Decided to skip going to church and watch on TV, since friend is coming. Have a nice day everyone.

Morning All, same ole weather, hot and humid. Before I forget. Karen, the afternoon rest is called a Power Nap and is used by intelligent people, I should know lol I’m surprised at how easy I have adapted to leaving the apartment. I take a long time making major decisions but then I go with it. #1 daughter has a 3 bedroom house and son-in-law suggested I take two which is very generous. I only want one for a nest but will take all the apple pies he wants to bake. #1 suggested I come for lunch next Saturday so I can look at the room and we can decide what needs to be done to make it mine. She has a large kitchen and there is one small section next to the wall oven that will be perfect for my coffee maker and small air fryer. Lol Many years ago on her 21st birthday she laid in bed with her young sister. It was quiet and I heard her say “I’m over the hill”. Little sister said “if you are over the hill where is mom” and she replied. She’s starting on the next hill. I have always used those words so now I am starting on the next hill. It’s ok because Edith and I agree, I’m a tough ole broad. Be safe

Good smoky morning. It really smells bad, worst so far this year. Laura informed me I had the worst air quality yesterday in the state LOL gee thanks. I knew it was bad but dont like being #1 for those reasons. I didnt open any windows last night before bed so my house was hot this morning, but I have them open now and the cooler air feels so good 57 out right now with a high today of 86 so probably another smoky day.
Shirl I am not a napper. If I did then I would not sleep good at night. BUT I have no problem relaxing in the recliner either reading or watching tv. So guess that still counts. Your moving plans sound like a very good thing. You will have some great company (and pie LOL) and your own little space. I like the idea of starting on the next hill, occasionally they are mountains but ya know we gotta go with the flow. My Mom lived with me for about 10 years, mainly cause I was traveling and she took care of the house while I worked on the East coast. She and I would go places together and she also had her own friends as did I so it worked out well. I still miss her terribly, she was an awesome Mom. Best memories.

I picked some tomatoes this morning and have alot more to pick. They are big and beautiful this year.....finally. I will give some to my neighbors as a girl can only eat so many tomatoes. Not sure what I will do today. I have no big plans or projects to tackle. I might shampoo my family room rug, we shall see. Henry has the day off but I might get him to vacuum the family room so I can use the shampooer.
Going to make the ribs today as I had a hankering for pizza last night so made that instead. Will make a small potato salad and sliced tomatoes to go with it...yup sounds good to me.
Off to get my second cup of coffee and some breakfast a bit later.

She and I would go places together and she also had her own friends as did I so it worked out well. I still miss her terribly, she was an awesome Mom. Best memories.

My mom and I were best friends too. I would take her on road trips all over MN and once to Galena, Ill. We had so much fun together. She had a great sense of humor and loved to shop and eat, so we always hit the little town cafes and stores in town. Miss those times. She would have loved to travel in an RV all over. I am sure she will be traveling shotgun with me when I hit the road.

Slept good last night. Been cuddling the kitties this morning. Church starts on YouTube soon.

I need to run to HD to pick up longer screws for the shed door. The ones I got were longer than the originals but not long enough to hold the metal piece in place. The wood frame is 1 1/2 inches thick so I can go with longer screws to hold it good. I am sure the holes that are in there now are stripped.

Kitties claws need to get trimmed and the fish tank needs a good overall cleaning too. Good day to take care of the pets.

I'm here. I've been focused on my health. I began having some neuropathy after Covid. It would only last a minute and travel from one area to another. Might be one thumb, then later 2 toes on one foot, then tricep in arm, never same place or side twice in row. It was a numbness, tingly feel. N Acetyl Cysteine helped. Then in about mid May, it got where every time I walked, little toe and one next to it went numb, but was ok after I was sitting. Then it got where a 15-20 min walk got entire leg numb until I sat. Then it got where left leg numb walking and soon as I lay down right leg from just above knee to my lower rib cage would immediately as I lay down go cold/ hot/numb/ burning/severe tingling. Try to sleep with that! It goes away after maybe 30 min mostly. About two and half weeks ago, it got really bad, as my uneven walking set my back off bad. Two visits to chiropractor has back much better but the neuropathy continues. My next on list was to call my spinal,Dr. But,in past few days, It's gotten slightly better. Then a few days ago,,while helping in a group I'm in, I was researching meds for someone. While doing that I thought, I wonder if any of the 3 high dose BP RX could be at fault here. Surely one of my Drs or pharmacist would have warned me, right?? My long time Losartan- nope. My Clonidine I use in patch- no actually it's used to treat neuorpathy, though I take for BP. Hydralizzine, which started May 7 and was quickly ramped up to 75 mg 3 times a day-- BINGO -'its well known for neuropathy, very serious neuropathy. In fact, even stopping the drug, neuropathy may last several months, or could be permanent ! Not one of 3 Drs has mentioned that, even though all 3 knew I was having post Covid neuropathy, neither had my pharmacist mentioned it! You can imagine I'm pretty ticked, 4 learned, trained people never mentioned it. A clue it's drug induced neuropathy is, since going to high dose Clonidine patch, I've needed slightly less hydralazine and looking back at my RX tracker and calendar, the past 1-2 weeks as I've needed less hydralizine, the neuropathy this past few days is very slightly better. I've gone from being able to walk only minutes at a time around the house to yesterday 10 min on treadmill. Just a month ago I was easily walking even with numbing left leg 30 min twice daily, where in May , I walked 30--45 min twice a day, danced 30 and worked out on Total Gym, about 6 days a week. It's hard on me when I can't keep active and less activity quickly brings de-conditioning! I see 2 Drs tomorrow- recheck at cardiologist and my internist. Both will be asked why was I not warned, knowing that I had post CoVid neuropathy! So that's my story. I have hope I can keep Hydralize dose low and get past this because it hasn't been fun and has been my whole focus recently. Tuesday, finally, is my sleep study. In addition, the hydralazine is making my usual dry eyes I've had since cataract surgery, way worse and causing blurriness, making reading an issue. I feel at times I need a iv type bag dripping tears into my eyes! none of 3 types liquid tear products helps for more than minutes. Yes I have eye appt but in Nov- no time right now to go sooner.
My take away to you all. Neither Drs nor pharmacists these days take time to truly inform you of what you may experience, not even for side effects that when researched show up as bolded text plus highlighted possible side effects! So it is your responsibility to look up each new drug a Dr RXs and look for warnings. Then type in that new RX and is it compatible with and type name of any other RX you take! It could mean the difference between being ok and helping whatever it was rx'ed for or serious,issues! In fact, I bet Karen will confirm, people have been diagnosed as dementia, when a change in RX caused the issue!
I think of all of you often and try to catch up when vision and level of discomfort allow. Take care everyone.

I’m so sorry Velda that you’ve been going through this recent fiasco with your doctors. I definitely agree about doing your own research since doctors now seem to rush through appointments and are not advising patients of all they need to know. I’m going through something right now and am experiencing similar frustrations (and worries) that doctors are not all doing a complete job. Good that you’re keeping track of your condition and symptoms. Hang in there. I hope things improve soon.

Velda, I'm so glad you do your own due diligence. I learned the hard way re osteoporosis meds and for years doctors argued with me. Until, finally, the last couple, agree with me that they caused my hip and jaw problems and the new ones could make it worse. It's in my records now. I hope you caught this soon enough for it not to have lasting effects.

I was supposed to spend today with my friend, Conni, but I woke up with a bad headache and we cancelled. I've been laying low. Just finally got my schedule for this coming Wed through the following Tuesday. I'll have 5 shifts, 3 openers followed by 2 closers for that week. I finish this week's schedule with 2 closing shifts, then 2 days off before those 5 in a row.. Next week's closing shifts start and end another hour earlier. So in just a couple weeks the week day shifts will have gone from closing at 9 then 8 and next week 7. I'm good with that. Opening doesn't change.

My mom was my best friend, too. I still think of her daily and talk to her. Yes, I hear her answers.

It rained hard most of the night and into the morning and silly me forgotten to bring Pippa's stroller inside. I think it is all dried out now but in washing the blanket that was in i, the sink in the kitchen started backing up a bit and then I noticed the bathroom plumbing gurgling noises. Checked the basement and one wall is wet. Had this happen before and the outside drain had to be cleaned out. I'll be calling a plumber early tomorrow. I also noticed a wet spot in the middle of the basement floor so no telling what is going on but it looks like $$$ to me.

Martha you asked me yesterday who won in the food fight with Pippa. I'll call it a compromise. I went to the pet store and bought her the food topper she likes and gave her the food she had been eating instead of the one for weight management. She is so funny, this morning a classical pianist was playing at the church service I Zoom and Pip wanted to sit on my lap. I turned my video off and picked her up, she put her front feet on my desk and watched and listened intently. I saw the woman at the Coop later and told her she had a four footed fan.

Velda I'm sorry you have been having so many problems and that your doctors were so negligent. I don't trust them at all anymore and I also try to do as much research as I can. Fortunately the acupuncturist I go to is also a medical doctor. Between her and the homeopath in Brazil who is also a medical doctor I meet online with, I don't think I would be here as I was allergic to all of the medications the doctors prescribed.
Karen I hope the smoke smell goes away soon! Shirl I'm happy to hear you have made the decision about leaving the apartment It sounds as though it will work out well.

I am not sure we could get any smokier. Our index is up to 440 hazardous on a scale that only goes to 500. I cannot see the hills on either side of me. I lit a couple of unscented candles and since it is only 76 havent turned my AC on, only my fan. I sure hope they get these fires out quickly but now that we are filled with smoke here in the valley it will take a while for it to go away. We could use an onshore breeze but dont think that is in the cards either.

Velda sure hope you get yourself sorted out, that sounds miserable. I know this long haul Covid is no joke. Doctors were suspect at first as they didnt know much about it but now they do realize it is a thing. I am glad I finally got the right help and am now back to normal. But I am not taking another Covid shot. I dont know if it had anything to do with it or not but I am not taking any chances. I got my TDAP. Pneumonia and flu shot, heck I'm good. Since I am really not out to any gatherings or around people, and I mostly order online and pick up I feel relatively safe in that respect. I know I could get it anywhere but you really have to be out and get exposed and I limit that very much.

I picked some beautiful big tomatoes today, so had a bacon and tomato sandwich, no lettuce right now in this house. Ribs for dinner, they are in the oven now. Having my Caramel Mocha and watching the boob tube. Will take some tomatoes over to my neighbor tomorrow.

I drove to Tobermory today and took an hour-and-a-half boat tour. Was a beautiful day, and I'll be posting photos tonight. It was cool and windy, but after an hour on the top deck in the sun, I started to get a bad migraine headache and had to go down to the lower deck which was inside. Still am not feeling quite right, so just took a couple of aspirin. Hope that does it.

Also stopped at store and picked up three packages of peameal bacon, aka "real Canadian bacon." One package is for my son and two are for me to freeze, but when I got home, I decided I needed to get some of the ice out of the freezer because it was taking up space, so got out hairdryer and defrosted it. Also tossed out a couple of old-looking things. Made myself a peameal bacon sandwich out of the stuff I bought last week. I am probably going to make myself sick of it. Sure would like one of the tomatoes everyone is growing so I could make a fantastic BLT!

No smoke in this part of Canada, by the way. It has been raining every couple of days, so I can't imagine anything burning anywhere near here because it is so damp. Even towels are not drying. And I forgot to mention that in my drive a couple of days ago, coming from northeast of here, I did see some reddish leaves in some of the trees, so that is a good sign of the coming fall.

I have read a couple of studies lately that seem to suggest that if you are female and "older", it is becoming more and more difficult to get proper treatment. And to even find doctors that will treat older women!

Karen, as you probably know I follow the wildfires here in northern California quite a bit. Since there have not been any fires near to me this year - and thus I have not had any of that miserable wildfire smoke like you have had (at least not so far!), I haven't been posting on the current wildfires - although there are currently quite a few burning here.

There are quite a number of lightning-caused wildfires in the north-west corner of California (one of these fires is beginning to slop over into Oregon), several of them have been burning for more than two weeks, with no end in sight. Current worry is that the annual autumn winds could begin to blow at any time, which could cause these fires to explode in size.

There is a gentleman who has a YouTube channel that makes his living when not on YouTube by doing wildfire mapping. I think his YouTube channel is just his hobby (since he already does this for a living), but the amount and depth of information presented regarding maps/why/how/where/when I find to be extremely interesting.

I really enjoy his videos because he is not at all sensationalist, his videos are just pure nuts-and-bolts, this-is-how-it-is kinds of information.

In the past he has mostly limited his videos to northern California fires, but on today's video he branched out a bit and covered the wildfire currently burning east of Portland - and also had quite a bit of coverage on the fires somewhat near to you there in Roseburg.

Small wonder you have so much smoke!!

It looks like there are several large wildfires burning on both the west and east sides of Interstate 5 (for those not in the know, Interstate 5 is the major north-south interstate artery that runs through California, Oregon and Washington), these all look to be somewhat northwest and northeast of Roseburg.

my dd and son in law came for supper and a visit today actually did some of the sewing that needed to be done on the Swedish Weave...while doing that I did the stay stitching on the new material was dismayed at the salvage edge almost not there a lot of fraying something I didn't notice at the store I got it from.. pretty bummed about it
Velda so sorry that you are having these problems... I'm one of those that probably wouldn't research meds and effects from them as I just don't it is something I will need to remember to do but then I have a granddaughter that is wanted to be a Pharmacist she can do it for me
did make my sourdough gingerbread... I couldn't believe how I misread the recipe ended up doubling the batch... but they liked it at least dd did not sure in sil said...
