Happy Saturday Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Happy Saturday Morning

Postby Bethers » Sat Aug 19, 2023 8:24 am

I'm still laying in bed but will shortly get up and out walking Ty as the heat comes back this afternoon and our heat advisory goes into effect through Wednesday or Thursday. It was so nice having open windows, etc the last few evenings and nights. I intended to do some sight seeing today and/or tomorrow but might put it off a week. I don't remember what day my friend Conni is having her knee replacement, so will contact her and see if she's available or needs anything.

Anita, your brother is lucky to have you on his side. Barbie, how did your first day back at Great Clips go?

Morning Beth. I too am being lazy this morning. Was chilly out this morning, 48°, so everything is damp from the morning dew. My project for today or at least as far as the tube of cement caulk goes that neighbor gave me, is to finish up the sidewalk cracks. But waiting for it to warm up a bit more. I think we are supposed to go into 70’s today.

Was thinking g about Tina lately. She’s been awol a long time. Anybody heard from her?

Watching the Weather Channel on the latest about Hilary. Stay safe all you gals out there. There’s some concern that Southern CA is not heeding the warnings. Hope the crazy thing peters out farther north. My neighbors are scheduled to leave on a cruise to AK from Vancouver, WA next weekend. They were supposed to go last year, but cancelled. Forgot what the reason was. They go with 4 other couples who love to travel.

Guess I should get moving here. Not going to ramble on about nothing. Have a nice day.

It is a nice cool 58 this morning. I have the doors and windows open and love the fresh air. We will be 90 today but wont be that hot until the afternoon. And we all know I am done working in the yard after lunch ha ha I need to wash the sea salt off my car and the mist we had at the coast made the dust just stick to it of course. So will do that maybe this afternoon and clean the inside also. Going to look in my freezer and see what gourmet delight hah I will fix for dinner. I do need to get some groceries as I didnt buy much before I left for the week so will look at the ads and see what I cannot live without LOL

My tomatoes are coming on fast and furious, will take some to my neighbors. I had a zucchini the size of my thigh, how does that happen so fast. Nothing when I left and a couple of tiny ones....sigh Same with the yellow crookneck squash. Ya know a gal can only eat so much squash. I am going to make a zucchini boat out of half the big one just have to decide what I want to stuff it with. The other half will go in the trash LOL

Barbie did you survive being back to work???? Will be nice to get a paycheck for sure. That is what I miss by being retired, that every Friday paycheck LOL but I do love retirement.
Anita, so sorry about your brother. It doesnt sound too good. Glad the sister in law finally realizes the gravity of his health.

Well think I will get busy here after some breakfast

Sue, I contacted Tina. She's focusing on her health and getting better strength and staying off Facebook and, unfortunately here, which is understandable. But she's very missed.

Karen, if you like zuchinni, it freezes well. What I do with my spare zuchinni is that I cube them, put them in a zip-lock bag, and then freeze them - even the "thigh-size" ones! Whenever I want a bit of zuch to toss into a soup or sauce, I just grab a handful.

My Joe really enjoys eating cooked zuchinni also, and it is very good for dogs.

Congrats on the tomatoes! LOL, I never thought I would say this - EVER! - but I am now officially sick of tomatoes!!! I have never harvested so many tomatoes in my life, and my freezer is FULL.

Stay cool, everyone! Autumn can't be too far off. Hoping for a good Barbie report this morning, fingers crossed she is doing ok.

Since it seems to be here anyway, I personally wouldn't mind if it kept on going just a bit. We have the usual selection of summer wildfires here in the far northern part of California just now, a bit of rain over those fires would be a definite plus.

Current predictions show it veering a bit eastwards into Nevada maybe ending in south-east Oregon and south-west Idaho.

If it does this, northern California will not receive any of this much-needed rain (but probably some of the wind), and the fires will burn on. And, of course, wind on wildfire is never a good thing.

I am enjoying my rest day in this campground in Ontario. It is what they call a conservation area, and they are owned and managed by a group of community-based, non-profit organizations to protect land that is important to watersheds and wildlife. But, I have found out that a lot of them have campgrounds with partial or even full hookups like this one does. It is about a 1,500' walk to Lake Ontario, which I might do later today or tomorrow.

Anyway, there are about 80 well-spread-out campsites here in grassy loops with gravel pads. They do allow some seasonal campers, which is a very common things in Canada, but also have transient spots for people like me.

Had to go to two grocery stores to get my "real Canadian bacon" aka "peameal back bacon," and food prices are very high, so I am glad I brought a lot of stuff with me. Should have brought more Coke, however, but it was nice to see signs in the grocery stores listing it as "pop" which is what we call it in Michigan! I had to get a propane fill yesterday, but it was amazingly cheap--only about $21 US, where usually I pay around $35. (Most I have ever paid was $65 in California.)

Tomorrow is going to be mostly sunny and warm, so I'm going out for the day to track down cemeteries and homesteads. Most of the roads still exist and are paved, so hopefully I will not get too lost.

Greetings! Yes, I’m still alive. I said Rabbits the beginning of July and August, but alas my sister is still living here. It will be SIX months tomorrow. I’m getting more depressed all the time. Moving got held up because the enclosed trailer that was moving some of her furniture was T-boned and damaged a lot of her furniture. Shattered the glass in our grandmothers beveled glass china cabinet. Waiting on insurance to come up with their assessment and payment.

The summer has pretty much been a wash, I didn’t do much of anything fun. I did have the grands quite a bit because Ashley taught two sessions of summer school. Bronc and Haddie started school on Wednesday. Just in time for a heat wave. The forecast predicts us in the high 90’s and 100’s until next Thursday. We were blessed with some nice rains in July and the beginning of this month, so we’re not nearly as dry as we were in June. Kids are enjoying the camper. They’ve had it out three weekends.

Barbie, I hope the hurricane spares you any damage. BJ, would you give your friend who brings food my name? Anita, prayers for your brother. Karen, sounds like you enjoyed your little mini vacay. Wish I had a place to go to escape the heat (and my sister) for the next week. Beth, it sounds like you are pleased with your new workcamper position. Catherine, You’re going to be busy with your grandson again. Martha, I share your pain with repairmen. In the last month my dishwasher died. I can’t complain, it was 29 years old! Had to wait for someone to come install the new one. Then ended up with two different plumbing problems and had to sit around two different days waiting for the plumber to show up. Sheila, I hope you get to go to Q this winter. Judy, I was shocked when you said how many miles you have on your rig….but then you are always on the go. Sue, I know you get more accomplished before 9:00AM than I do all day…probably all week! Anne, Bring the tomatoes in the house and let them finish ripening. Sharon, wonderful news about your granddaughter’s progress.

I know I always forget someone when I do this. Not intentional.

Not much else to say. Have a good day.
My mind works like lightning...one brilliant flash and it's gone.

There's a local chain of groceries in this area called Fareway. They have the closest store to me and my friend Conni told me they are good and have an excellent meat department. I want intending to get meat, but only needed a few things so headed over today especially for some fresh fruits and a few other things. Very clean and the meat dept looked fantastic. Overall prices higher than Safeway or the pricier stores. That was depressing. I managed to get some fruits on sale and found a few other ok sale items and went back by the meat dept and deli because one salad caught my eye, so 1/2 a pound found it's way into my cart. Then I saw the most glorious boneless pork chops. Now, I have some in the freezer so no excuse, but the price was good on these so two made it into my cart and I had one tonight. So yummy. I'll have the other probably tomorrow. And I doubt I'll go back to that store only because of the regular prices and how much might jump into my cart with those prices. I was proud of myself today as I only spent slightly under $40. I could conceivably go back for fresh meat. Great meat dept is definitely the case. But I need to eat what I already have lol

The great is here and our heat warnings are in effect. My AC is working overtime. I just checked and temps are better at my Benson casita this week than here. Strange weather for sure.

I hope all of you on the west Coast stay safe. I have a friend who fell in love in Baja over last winter and stayed. So far she ok, just moved her site further back from the water. I'm keeping all of you in my thoughts.

Anne I dont have much room in my freezer LOL so not wasting it on zucchini LOL I do like steamed or fried zucchini tho. Not even a big fan of zucchini bread. I took some tomatoes over to my neighbor this morning and they couldnt get over the size of them. I got back from the coast and there they were glaring at me. Finally after 2 years I got tomatoes. Last year doesnt count because I could have cared less if they lived or died.....I wasnt even sure I would live LOL
It is super smoky and smelly outside today. They say we are going to be buried in smoke tomorrow from the Canadian and Washington fires. Too bad we cant get some of Hilary's rain.
I have spent most of the day watching Youtube videos and reviewing generators. I just need a portable inverter generator and I have narrowed it down to the one I want. I really think these power outages are going to continue in the years to come. But if they dont at least I am prepared!!!! I just want to be able to run my coffee pot, fan and charge my electronics. I can use my hotspot for internet.

UPDATE: I pulled the trigger and ordered my portable generator.

Work went pretty good today but wasn't super busy. I did 11 haircuts in 6 hours.

I called my manager tonight and told her I won't be at work tomorrow because of the dangerous conditions with catastrophic flooding predicted here. She was OK with that. One inch of rain out here can cause flooding, so 6 to 8 inches, plus the heavy run-off coming down from the mountains from up to 12" of rain up there, will be catastrophic. They have been removing homeless camps in and around the washes and low-lying areas.

People are busy filling sand bags around the area. In fact, they are running out of sandbags and sand. They are telling people who have sandbags to just fill them with desert sand where ever they can get it. Stores are getting empty shelves. I picked up some more food at WM when I got off work today. I should be good. I have a propane stove and oven so I can still cook things if needed if/when the power goes out.

I have an exhaust fan in my bathroom right above the toilet. Rain comes in there when we get heavy rains, so I have learned to just keep the toilet seat up so the rain water just drips in there. No buckets needed! I had my skylights recaulked just over a year ago so they should be good. Roof is in good shape.

Stray cats have access to my porch tonight and tomorrow complete with food, water and a litter box. :D

San Diego is supposed to get hit bad too. Lyn, hunker down and keep in touch if/when you can! And Catherine too!

Anita, I didn't realize that your SIL is also going thru chemo. So sorry to hear about both her and your brother. Very stressful for the whole family. (((hugs)))

Have a good night and I will update as I can.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

The biggest reason I have a lot of miles on my motorhome is that it is the only vehicle I gave so I use it for everyday driving as well as traveling driving. For example I drove almost 60 miles yesterday going to library for research and stopping
For groceries. No driving today but I did take a long walk down to the beach. I also found my great and great-great grandparents farms on a regular map that had addresses. Worked from land plat maps which is not easy.

I got up about 6 this morning and it was nice and cool! Smoke is really thick and imagine it will remain that way for quite a while. Some really bad fires east, north and south.

Pat, it's always good to have you check in as it is all of you that don't post often. Beth, I went to the small store in town the other day for a few things knowing they were higher but 75 cents more for a can of stewed tomatoes!? Sent most of what I bought home with Monica today since it was produce. I had been missing Tina and sorry she's having such health issues. Barbie, I don't know if they didn't hit my sister-in-law with strong enough chemo to begin with, but this has been going on for 3 years. They have finally told her they can't defeat it but will try to keep it from spreading. Alternative is to have her bladder removed which I understand she doesn't want to do, but 3 years has been a long time. I'm Certainly keeping an eye on the storm situation in California.

Brother finally was told today his cancer is Stage 4. They started chemo this evening. I think I'm just about packed. Will be up at 5 for 7:30 train. Thanks for all the kind comments and well wishes.

while on Yahoo I saw something that if it gave me the choice to do so would have shared it to FB for you Karen... it was 11 plants that deer don't like came from Better Homes and Garden... no I don't remember one of them but they were sure pretty...
I wish we had the problem of too much tomatoes but then I buy them and usually end up tossing some because I forget mom doesn't eat them much anymore... not that she eats anything much any more...
as to Q I have no idea Pat... I'd love to say that I'm leaving on such and such a date... but I have no idea at this point in time I think it's not in the cards... :( as my dd reminded me that there is a lot of stuff that I need to do on the trailer in my mind I was just not going to put the slides out till I got to the desert and then put them out and call the repair guy to see if he would come check them out... perhaps that isn't the best thing to do... I do need to get it licensed it's hard to remember to get it when it's not going anywhere... and now it's getting close to the time when the rv sales and repair places will be filled with those wanting to get their rigs winterized...
was going to go over to dd's house today but changed my mind... had about 6 things in mind to do today and think I got 4 done that would be considered a win... but one of them I plan on doing in a few moments
so sorry Anita to hear how bad your brother is ... it's taxing on one... to be there and to not be there...
Barbie hopefully all will be will with you as well as the other's in the path of the winds and rain there are quite a few of "us" some not on the forum much anymore... I think Evie is in that area as well...be safe...
Pat sounds like you would like your sister to be able to be in her own digs... I'm hoping to go on a road trip early next month I'd like to stop and see you coming or going will let you know what my plans are when I finally make them... and if it's not a good time will understand that as well I'm looking forward to being in the midwest was hoping that by waiting till Sept I would miss out on the higher heat... feel bad though that by waiting I missed out on seeing Larry's last remaining aunt ... she passed away middle part of the week she was a sweetheart...
so I can never remember what all everyone said
you all have a great day
