Sunday August 5

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunday August 5

Postby Shirlv » Sun Aug 06, 2023 9:14 am

Morning All, same ole here, traffic and humidity. #2 daughter and family back home from vacation in South Carolina. The highlight of my week was a video of youngest 15 month old great grandson dancing to live music at a local Peach Festival. Watered all the houseplants yesterday and noticed several fungi’s knots. Search for a solution and sprayed plants with peroxide and water solutions. Seems to have helped. I think my favorite plant is the little Lemon Button Fern. If a full timer wanted a houseplant, this would be perfect. Not big on watching tv so have about 5 blogs I follow. All in other countries, Ireland, Scotland and Portugal. All have pretty scenery and people with a sense of humor. Barbie, I’ve never heard of buying a house and being told when you can live in it.
Presently reading Anne Hillerman’s The Way of the Bear. That’s all folks. Be safe

It's noon and I'm not even dressed yet. Fed the cats in my robe. It's 97 but I'm sure we are headed to 100. There was a nice breeze and that makes a big difference on how hot it feels.

I cooked the brisket for 10 hours in the slow cooker yesterday and it is still chewy. I am cooking the sauce down and will probably chop up the meat to make sandwiches. Wendy's keeps advertising their Baconator sandwich on TV so yesterday I tried one. They look better on TV than in person. I didn't know it came with cheese and I don't like cheese on my hamburger. To say it had one slice of bacon on it would be a stretch. I didn't know you could slice bacon that thin. My air fryer makes better hamburgers.

I signed up for a campout in November at a campground in Natchitoches. Hopefully it will be cool by then. lol Next year this group has a campout in Fredericksburg, Texas that I would like to go to but it's over by San Antiono which is about 500 miles for me. I use to drive 500 miles in a day and think nothing of it and now I don't even want to do 200 miles.

Shirl, I looked up the Lemon Button Fern. I would like that but my cats won't leave house plants alone.

Bridge is really feeling like a normal part of my mouth, finally, and the constant feeling of food under it has gone away. I will floss it only when necessary so as to irritate the gum so much.

Love it when the weekend crowds leave on Sunday. :D It was really packed and full of kids yesterday, but there is only one more weekend before school starts here. Nice and quiet now, and am going to walk over and do a load of sheets and towels. I sorted the rest of my clothes into dark and light, but think I am going to wait until Tuesday to do those loads. Nice thing about all Ohio state parks is that there are washers and dryers at each restroom, so it is very easy to do laundry. Rained hard about an hour ago, but sun is out, so I can walk the couple hundred feet to the washing machine now.

Tomorrow I head out for physical therapy on my left shoulder and to pick up a few groceries. I really have a lot of food, but need things like milk, bread, potatoes, and a few other perishables. Also will need to pick up four prescriptions so I can count out pills for a couple more weeks. I like to have four weeks counted out, and keep the weekly packs as well as the original prescriptions in a small cooler--no ice, just a cooler to keep the temperatures moderately cool.

Just wondered, Barbie, what do you do with cats during an open house or when realtor wants to show house?

Looks like it's a quiet day for most of us.

Shirl, I agree that that only allowing part time living is unusual and I think shouldn't be allowed. And might not be legal as suggested. I was afraid that would be a problem for you selling when you first mentioned that last year, Barbie. I was always a mega reader and don't know why it's changed. But I do watch too much TV now. Or it's on too much, anyway. But maybe I'll start reading again.

Martha, I like Fredericksburg so would see about an extra night somewhere both ways. Just a thought. I don't like the long driving days much anymore either. As to Wendy's, it was Wendy's, Burger King and Arby's that turned me off to fast food back in my teens. I didn't like most of their foods and haven't been in any of them for years. Occasionally some of the ads make me think I should try again, then someone reviews like you just did, and I say, nope, I'm good. If I went to Wendy's with a friend chances are I would only get a Frosty. Loved those.

Judy, great that the bridge is feeling comfortable. So glad it's working out. I'm working at a KOA, so kids, kids and more kids. But yes, less now that lots went home today. Yay lol. And I'm doing a couple loads of laundry now, also. I'll have my work clothes ready for the week and fresh sheets. Fresh sheets are one of my favorite things. I put off my laundry yesterday after I knew I wouldn't be going to the reunion. I think we made the right decision, but I was looking forward to it. Whoever asked, this reunion is held the beginning of August every year in Morris Park. Morris Park was given to the county by my relatives (my mom was a Morris). I doubt I'd know many there so when my sister and two cousins that would be the only ones I expected to know decided nope with this weather it made no sense to drive 2 1/2 hours to maybe almost no one, known or not.

Beth, I picked up an Apple Pecan Salad when I went to Wendy's to eat today and I have to say it was really good. I would get another salad from there but not a burger.

Thought I would just stop by and say hello. It’s been a cloudy but just a little humid day. But we're only 69 degrees. Was 48 when I got up this morning.

Haven’t done much today, went to Mass this morning, then to both Home Depot and!owes. Out to Meijer to do a little shopping. Traffic was horrendous. Tbere are a lot of people up here right now. First two weeks of August are peak vacation weeks and looks like everybody decided to wait until then. They were backed up clear across the Mackinac Bridge going north yesterday as well. Looked like 4th of July all over again. Was backed up for 8 miles that weekend. There’s a lot of traffic heading south right now too.

So otherthan just raking up my backyard to clean up all the green pine cones falling off the white pines, that’s all I’m doing outside today. Traced the pattern out on of my Dress Up Darlings, will start painting it after supper maybe.

Molly is moaning that she wants her supper so I guess I had better get going here.

Good afternoon. Another warm day here but getting warmer soon so getting the outside chores done early. I was out staining my small deck at 7:45am ...unheard of for me to be working before my second cup of coffee but yup that happened. Still have to paint the boards behind the steps and that will happen soon. Fiddly work I dont like but has to be done.
Will do my laundry tomorrow as I am leaving Tuesday for Medford. Be home Thursday tho after meeting my friend Lisa for breakfast and to firm up our plans for the BIG fishing trip
on the 15th, will be fun and way cooler at the coast than here, as that is our HOT week. Will be in the 70's instead of the 100's over here. I will still get some of the heat as I will only be there for a couple of days so will come back to warmer weather.
I rarely eat fast food ever since Covid started. Everything was closed and when it opened back up they couldnt get help or supplies. I got a Carl's Jr burger and fries when I first moved up here and it was pretty good. But since the reviews of all the fast food here in Roseburg are so bad I quit going. Now if I want something, I either order it to go from a real restaurant or go to the Food Truck Lot. It is actually about the same cost for 100% better food and service. I cook most of the time but every once in a while I want something without working for it LOL Well it is Caramel Mocha time here and since I had a big lunch that just might be enough until tomorrow.

Woohoo! We had a thunderstorm, a brief downpour and rain! We are to be in the 80s this week.

Beth, I'm sure the reunion would have been fun, but don't blame you for not going! We used to have a reunion on my dad's side, until someone decided it was all about sightseeing with everyone doing their own thing. Defeated the purpose. Other than a McDonald's coffee, I don't remember the last time I had fast food! The 9-month limit seems strange. If the people buy a place whether for 9 months' use or full-time use, you can get riff raff either way. Hope the realtor open house works out, Barbie.

Brother took the Sling out yesterday finally since he hasn't been feeling well. I got a report this morning. :) I tried to remember to tell him all the things related to it, but I forgot a couple. I'm not sure how long it will stay over there due to his health. He has just been diagnosed with emphysema. They warned him to quit smoking, he tried but didn't and now kicking himself. Of course, he did quit before the heart surgery.

Baseball game was this afternoon so I'm about to dig into the genealogy for the evening. Surprised no one has mentioned the August 5 date  - I wouldn't have noticed except I was well aware of it being the 6th - would be Steven's 79th birthday.

Anita, I had just noticed the date and was wondering if anyone else had. Sorry about your brother's health. My sister has been diagnosed with COPD and is still smoking. She just sits and smokes one cigarette after another and has coughing fits. She told me the other day some of her family had gone swimming but no one wanted to bring her. I wanted to tell her it was because no one wanted to have to take care of her. I don't want to camp with her because I have to wait on her. Harold said one time that if we lived any closer to them we would have to move. I still feel that way.

I made myself walk at 7:30 tonight and it was still in the 90's. I had to bring a paper towel to wipe my face. There is nothing in the forecast but more heat and no rain.

I had to go back up and look
I wondered that too Judy been going to ask but you did first
we have had it cooler the last couple of days today didn't change ... and tonight we had thunder and lightening quite the show actually... and rain with it suppose to rain some tomorrow then we have sun and hopefully warmer weather...
read my scriptures after church then a very long nap... don't know why I didn't sleep well last night rarely happens but it did... I also finished my book last night... made chicken pacatta for supper I enjoyed it hard to tell if mom did ... think I picked out the recipe that I want to use or the pot luck coming up it's for women so think this will be enjoyable watermelon, raspberries, blueberries, think it was mozzarella cheese the balls and a lime dressing but not sure of that it looked good really good
I used to eat fast food more than I do now but now when we do it's usually DQ I don't like McD's execpt ice cream and theirs here I don't like it... not creamy reminds me of the ice cream at McD's in Blythe
you could replicate that baconator Martha just had bacon to your hamburger and any of the goodies you like I really like a hamburger in the A/F and yes love the salads from Wendy's I'd forgotten I may have to go get me a salad and mom nuggets not tonight of course but sometime this week although the fish fry truck is going to be here haven't gone for the last couple times they have come...they come 1st a month
the one thing I dislike about going out is getting mom there... I could go and bring it home but I hate to have to eat cool food or reheat it when I get home...
you all have a great day
Beth sorry you missed the reunion but probably a wise choice what town was it going to be in?

I slept in late this morning and lounged in bed until after noon. Then got up and dressed. At 2pm my agent knocked on the door. He was having another open house. I knew he had originally planned to have one Sat and Sun, but after yesterday, I figured he wasn't gonna do another one today. I was wrong. So I had to quick put stuff away, make my bed, and leave for a couple hours. (the cats stay hiding in the bedroom closet). I went to the indoor mall in Palm Desert. Wow! It was like Christmas with the tons of people there! I guess the heat drives everyone to go to an air conditioned mall! I just walked around and spent some time in Barnes & Noble. My sciatica started getting really painful and at one point my leg kind of gave out on me for a second. I wanted to stop and get a small Cinnabon but the line was long and I didn't want to stand for too long since that makes the pain worse.

I guess nothing happened during the open house. He thinks it might take until September or so for the snowbirds to start looking. I also think the 9 month rule is rIdiculous! But I know of a couple other RV parks out here that have the same rule. I am starting to feel like I live at the Hotel California "...you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave". I may have to consider lowering the price some.

I really need to find a job soon because I am running low on money since my SS barely covers my expenses. There just isn't anything out there right now. This is such a seasonal area so the summers here are slow for many businesses so there isn't many places hiring. Even the food delivery businesses are not hiring drivers right now.

I don't care for fast food nearly as much as I used to. I still love Taco Bell tho! If I go to Wendy's, I get their chicken filet sandwich. Same with Arby's, altho since they quit offering their potato cakes, I don't go there much anymore.

Good night!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)
