SATURDAY AGAIN 8/5

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

SATURDAY AGAIN 8/5

Postby OregonLuvr » Sat Aug 05, 2023 11:04 am

Good morning. Was a nice 59 out this morning....for a while. Sun is out and things are heating up soon. 93 today but oh my looks what is coming. So much for my electrical conservation plan.

Image

Had breakfast and now need to get dressed go outside and fertilize and water the front flowers. Was going to finish staining the steps but will wait on that, I actually have lots of time. Going to go to Medford on Tuesday and come back Thursday before the really hot stuff hits here. Will only be in the low 90's while I am there then it heats up also, usually a few degrees hotter than I am. So this seemed like a good time for a quick run. My poor friend down there is technologically challenged and so I will go down and set her up to get rid of Spectrum and just stream will be WAY cheaper for her. And she is fun to visit.

Good afternoon Karen and all that check in!

Karen, it's amazing how warm it gets there! Our electric bill that I just paid yesterday was $ 195.00! This is for both the motorhome and casita, but we are not going to be uncomfortable. We're turning on the a/c in the motorhome several hours earlier than usual but starting at a higher temperature, then gradually lowering it until it's set for our bedtime. So the beginning of September we'll know if that did anything. Steve will be cooking a steak for him and a chicken breast for me on his Egg for dinner and I'll make devilled eggs and a lettuce salad as sides. Then I'm going to make a macaroni salad to take for the potluck after church tomorrow.

Noon right on the button as I start this. Hazy day, temp 73° Hot dogs cooking on the Foreman grill for lunch.

I’m in process of caulking more sidewalk cracks but will be stopping before long. Running out of caulk. Didn’t know how much I would need, so will pick up a couple more tubes tomorrow. Sun getting a bit too warm to work on the walks anyway. Have some primering and painting to do on the repair to the porch yesterday. Won’t take long. Damage was bad but not extensive.
Image

Figured out it was caused by rain running down the roof along side the siding where the porch roof runs into the house roof and getting into the area between the end of gutter and siding. Should have been a diverter put there to channel the rain into the gutter. is now. If you look where the gutter meets the siding, you can see the piece of metal sticking up there.
Image

Hot dogs are ready. Time to eat and then head out and finish the last tube of caulk.

Good morning gals!

Karen, that is gonna be a hot week for you up there! Have a fun visit in Medford.

My electric bill for last month is just under $100 which is normal for this extreme heat. I can't put up the bubble wrap now on the windows because of having to show the house. Also yesterday, I removed the covers on the skylights to show how bright and sunny this place is with the extra light.

Found out that the people interested in my place wanted to live here full-time which is no longer allowed. Last year, the snowbirds here voted to only allow 9 months of occupancy per year here. They said they didn't want "rif-raf" moving in.

My agent also found out he can't have an open house here to outside people, only for residents here. But he can have outside people make an appointment to come in during the open house. He is trying to work around the crazy rules here. So we are still set for an "open house" of sorts here today from 2 to 4. Will see what happens...

I need to get up and get this place looking good. Shouldn't take long tho. Got the outside cleaned up yesterday, so just straighten things up in here. I might drive up to Desert Hot Springs and look at a couple RV's at the used RV lot there where I know the guys, while my agent is here. Nothing else to do to kill a couple hours around here.

Have a good day and stay cool!

It was 89 when I went out to feed the cats this morning. The Lafayette weather says the humidity is 65% but it felt like 100% here. Took some trash out to burn before they decide to issue a burn ban. My neighbor usually feeds the two cats at the barn because he has his mule in a lot here. Gypsy and Paula were coming to meet me so I knew he hadn't fed them so walked out to the barn. There were two cat bowls against the gate going into the barn. It looks like the raccoons tried to take something to go but couldn't get the bowls past the gate. The darn cows had knocked the fence panel down that I had put to keep them away from the water faucet they keep turning on. Went back to the barn to get some rope to tie the fence panel. By the time I got back in the house I had sweat running off and I couldn't see out of my glasses. We have at least a week of 100 or better temperatures. It was 102 yesterday.

A friend had posted a news story about a woman that was mowing her yard and a hawk dropped a snake on her. The snake wrapped around her arm and tried to bite her in the face. It chipped her glasses but didn't bite her. The hawk started trying to get the snake back and cut up her arm. I wouldn't have needed to go to the hospital because I would have had a heart attack. I think this happened in Texas. One of the cats was smelling around the back door this morning. I need to check around so I don't have a snake fall on me again.

I took a piece of brisket out of the freezer this morning to thaw out. I think I'll put it in the slow cooker.

Irmi, now you have me hungry for macaroni salad. I don't have what I would need to make one but the deli has a good macaroni and shrimp salad that I get sometimes. I wasn't planning on going to town but now I might. :D

Barbie, that park is making it hard for people to sell.

It has been raining here and seems a bit cooler humidity wise. Last night around 9:30 when I let the dogs out it was so humid I could barely breathe the temp was only in the 70's but it felt like when the temps were over 100.
Karen your forecast looks like you will be uncomfortable for a few days. Martha that snake falling on the lady sounds terrible, I'm not afraid of snakes but think that would have definitely freaked me. Irmi wish I were there to eat with you a few days! I bet I could gain a little more weight as you cook things I like. Barbie, good luck sounds like the park is not being very helpful toward people who want to sell.
Hope everyone has a good day.
I'm surprised at everyone's electric bills. Our electric/gas bill is combined but have increased quite a bit, I think $450. was the highest last winter and so far this summer around $250.

Sorry to hear that the heat is coming back to the west. I can imagine everyone is anxiously waiting for September with hopes it will get cooler. I guess you adapt, but personally, I really do not like heat. Funny thing happened with my son and the Spanish student. Their main car is a big Explorer with three rows of seats because my son has three kids, a dog, and a cat when they go to condo for weekends. And with extra 15-year-old, they now have four teenagers for the next couple of weeks. Anyway, he is from Seville, which is really hot nearly all the time--typically in upper 90s and 100s this time of year.

So, after coming back from condo, my son was alone in the car driving here and there, but he could not get it cool even with AC set on 70 and blowing like crazy. Then he discovered that the temp in the first back seat had been set to 85 because the Spanish boy had been cold!

I am getting used to my bridge and have had no pain with it at all. Only problem is that it feels like I always have food under it and need to floss it. I decided yesterday, which was the day after the bridge was put in, that I was probably irritating it more than it had been from the installation. So I gave it a break yesterday evening and it feels a lot better. I still need to pick up some more specialized flossing things--did not realize when I agreed to bridge that I would need to clean under it. BJ has given me some good suggestions on floss, but I have not had time to go out yet. Using what dentist gave me as samples for now.

Well I didnt last as long as I usually do outside. After about an hour of fertilizing, watering, washing off the deck I was done. Dripping wet done!!! Sat down to cool off and thought you big dummy go in the house!!! So that is what I did. Had a big drink of water and some watermelon. Corn on the cob and salad for lunch soon. Guess I will do the bed linen and maybe turn my mattress, or maybe not will see how hard that is. Dont think it is really needed because I alternate sides of the bed. But it has never been done so think I will attempt it.

Martha I am with you, if that happened to me I would be dead instantly. I am going to make some potato salad with bacon and chives for dinner. I bought some frozen hamburger meat patties and I really like them so think that will be dinner along with some green beans. Sue glad you got your porch fixed. Irmi my electric bill for last month was $101 not too bad. I like it lower but with Pacific Power getting a 14% increase it will always be higher than I am used to. Guess I am done for the day now, time to take a much needed shower.

Boy, that's for sure. Barbie, can you get your hands on a copy of those "new rules" to be sure that your realtor is understanding them correctly?

Is it possible that your place might be "grandfathered in", since you are already living there full time?

Here is a definition of this term:

https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/grandfathered_in#:~:text=Grandfathered%20in%20refers%20to%20conduct,of%20prior%20laws%20or%20rules.

Lolol Karen. We'll all be waiting to find out the results.

I should have gotten my laundry done today. But I've cancelled going to the family reunion tomorrow after both my sister, bil and cousin cancelled due to the predicted rains and thunderstorms all day tomorrow. So maybe I'll get wet doing laundry. I'll try to go over there during a break, if there are any, but it won't be the first time I get wet.

Every year or so water leaks from my hose connection to the RV. The same type connection is there for the water tank and, knocking on wood, it's never leaked. For some reason, a new hose always solves the problem. Because I've seen how disgusting the inside of the hoses get, I don't mind replacing it. So I did a pick up order at both Sam's club and Walmart and one product that came home was a new hose and no more leak. So, I filled the tank which I had cleaned in Arizona, so it's still usable as necessary, but it is nice to have water available all the time without worrying about running out.

I am able to boondock for several months knew how to get water who to call to get pumped out but when the time of the season is up and I have to leave... I am so glad to be hooked up to water and a dump
it does seem like the park is making it harder than it needs to be... it seems to me that it would be wiser to have more of the trailers filled through out the year than just during the "season" what is to stop people from coming in and occupying a unit while people are gone... or rob the homes that are unoccupied for several months... it just doesn't seem like a good move ... there are several rv parks in Q the one I am really interested in you have to be checked out before you can buy into the park seems like to me that would help keep out the rif raf hopefully you can figure out a good way of working around the issues...
macaroni salad does sound good.... I made it several months ago made it the way mom used to even down to salad shrimp and for her miracle whip for me mayo she didn't like it don't know why so haven't wanted to make any since there is one that I used to make all the time... used bow tie pasta chicken 2 veggies and 2 fruits then a mayo/mixed with cole slaw dressing I didn't usually follow that part... but it is really good oh and I think it had cashews as well been awhile since I've made it might have to do for the next potluck we go to... or dig into that new cookbook and find a recipe to try :) thinking back I didn't mention my gift... when nephew and wife left they brought in a package and put it on the piano bench I just assumed that it was the Zest body wash that my sister order for us... can't find it on the shelves in any store that I've looked at was surprised that it was sent in my name so decided on my way to bedroom to open it and inside was a cookbook that I've been wanting took it back to room and looked at the paper work and it was sent from my granddaughter was really excited to get it so will have to look through it and try some of the recipes... it's called the Mediterranean Dish... she does a video that shows up on FB but imagine that she is on You Tube as well...I enjoy watching her cooking shows... and she makes it look so easy  not that I can pronounce the names of the dishes and she uses a lot of Sumack so need to get some of that...
we had rain today and thunder
mom has a all electric house but no A/C and it's been cool enough that the door wasn't even open today she asked it I wanted the plant to come in I don't think it will need to...
somehow turned on the alarm and woke up really late then had to wait for the half hour and mom still only ate a 1/2 piece of toast and 1/4 th of a banana and milk
I have gabbered on enough that I've forgotten what you all mentioned...
you all have a great day

Good late evening...

Got my place all cleaned up again with time to spare. I left when my agent got here, and headed to Desert Hot Springs which is in the north end of the valley. Stopped at the RV dealer there. The guy showed me several Class C's and a couple smaller Class A's. I didn't spend much time in any of them because it was SO hot!! :o Must have been close to 125* inside each one! Felt nice to get back outside with a breeze even tho it was 113* outside. Anyways, I didn't see anything too exciting. There was a 28' class C that had a lot of space and storage but 2 slides and was way over my budget. But I see things in each one I look at that I keep in mind for later if I want that feature or not. I know I don't want a Class A even if it is on the smaller side and less expensive. I will look at them all again on their website to look at more of the details. But by the time I am ready to actually buy something, they will probably have several new ones to check out, anyways.

I guess only one couple showed up for the open house but they too, were looking for something year-round. It was about 2 years ago that the HOA put the idea of the 9 month rule to a vote in the park. It was about 2/3 majority that voted to go with that plan. They figured that because it is so affordable here that it would attract "riffraff" coming into the park. Those of us here full-time were offended since we don't consider ourselves as riffraff. Anyways, we were all grandfathered in but anyone who bought in here after last March (2022) could no longer occupy their places longer than 9 months. Legally, I am not sure how that would hold up in court when you own the home and the land under it and pay HOA dues every month all year long whether you are here or not. But it is what it is now, so we have to abide by it. I am hoping that people looking for a winter home will be checking the ad I put on the website here.

My agent also said there is a broker tour in this area next week and he is going to see if my house can be included in the tour. That way other brokers/agents will see it and we will have more contacts out here with potential clients. There are people who live in LA who sometimes buy a place out here for the winter months to stay at or for a rental investment.

He did say again how nice and clean and neat my place looks so that is good to hear. I worked hard to get it to that point!

I had bought 2 lbs of hamburger the other day so I cooked that up tonight. One pound, I divided into 4 freezer bags to use for Hamburger Helper, spaghetti sauce, etc., and the other pound I made into sloppy joes for meals for the next several days. Unfortunately, I ate up all the potato chips already that I bought the other day. .

Martha, that whole snake scenario would kill me with a heart attack too! No thanks!

Judy, glad your new bridge is working out pretty good. I am sure they take awhile to get used to tho.

Beth, sorry you will miss the reunion. Do they have them fairly often? We only had one reunion on my mom's side about 22 years ago.

I got another bill last week for that orthopedic specialist appointment I had, even after calling them a couple weeks ago about it. Yesterday, I called my insurance company again and got passed around to a couple different people but finally was told that it was now taken care of and not to worry about it. Yeah, we'll see!

Tomorrow I will watch golf and wash clothes.

Time to get to bed.
