Morning All, can’t believe 39% humidity today Yea! I get to sit outside. #2 daughter visited yesterday and brought 6 ears of corn. I have cooked them in the microwave for years but this year I tried freezing the corn, husk and all. First attempt 5 minutes was too soft kernel. Next 4 minute was corn ok but cold cob. 3 rd try at 4.10 minute was just right, guess it depends on the microwave. Tonight’s dinner will be fried tomatoes, boiled potatoes and corn. Gonna be a good day. Lol. Laura, your plans sound wonderful. Rockfish is a favorite in my neck of the woods. You made me wonder if I have anything for a bucket list. Be safe

Good Morning everybody. Boy, miss a day, especially 3 and one spends half the evening catching up on all the posts. I know I won’t remember half of what was said as lots of chatting was going on.

Can’t say I’ve been doing a whole lot, but my weekend was focused on the Canoe Marathon. Was watching a lot of live feed when it was on. First year for that and so there were glitches along the way. Small crew trying to cover 120 miles, having to shoot at one dam Portage for a a bit, pack up and drive to next, set up again, running out of power to keep the camera running etc. Was a learning curve this year. Our parish Pastor and his partner did finish after 15 hours of non stop paddling. 75th out of 96. But at least they finished, that’s all that matters. That race is gruesome. Hours and hours of training before hand. Paddling for all you are worth for as long as I takes, down a river that is narrow in some places in the dark of night, a bow light to hopefully keep you from crashing into a log, snag or whatever or getting knocked out of the canoe by a sweeper (a tree or limb that may be sticking out over the river at an angle from the shore), sitting in a cramped position especially in the bow, dealing with whatever Weather there is, early morning fog on the dam ponds and whatever else. It’s brutal in the body. 10 canoes were forced to drop out due to paddlers getting sick. Why do it. The challenge. 110 teams, 96 finished.

Weather has been nice here. Low to mid 50’s at night, low mid 70’s day. Dew on the grass and decks etc. in the morning. Typical for this time of year. Harbinger of the season to come. O’Sharon, I had the same thighs as you, fall chore time before long. It’s why I spent time the early part of the summer, doing my decks and other things as I know this tine of year the days get shorter, more dampness in the morning etc. Right now I’m just coasting along.

In regards to the movie “Oppenheimer”, I don’t know if reference was made to him meeting with Dr. Compton here in Michigan, but that meeting was just up the road from where I am, at the State Park where I used to work https://www.9and10news.com/2023/07/21/n ... n-project/

Barbie, great that you have your house listed. Best of luck. Sorry about the be storm mess, but buyers can see it was something you had no control over. Better start looking at RV’s so you have some ideas lined up. Things can move fast. Carol, sorry Bill is still having issues. That long Covid can be taxing as Karen, Velda and other can testify. Anita, sorry about the mailbox issue. Even having locked boxes isn’t safe either as they steal postal carrier keys too. Don’t know how, but they do. Judy, glad pump is fixed and you are working your way out of MI. Beth, happy you made it to your new job. Hope all goes well.

Not sure what I am getting Into today. Put the first coat on my little deer statue yesterday. My otber statue is finished and back in the flowerbed. I will share some of m flower pictures with you later today. Am in the mood for taking a ride someplace, so might takethe dogs and vamoose. Take Molly’s eye drops with us. I have made an appt. With a new vet in town who has a very extensive background including an interest in Opthamology among other things for Molly. I am switching both dogs over to her practice. Haven’t been happy with the last vet I’ve been gong to. Been going there over 25 yeas, but original vet retired, other vet is now semi retired and things changed after Covid. Don’t like how they are doing things. Office stuff are kind of abrupt too. One can get a little snooty too. Also postponed trip to MSU as eye is gradually getting better, so maybe new vet can figure this out. I was already impressed with the place when I stopped to make an appt. Just about 5 miles up the road too.

Time to get a move on. Have a great day everyone. Shirl, you snuck in just before me, so I moved my post over here. Fresh corn sounds yummy. Our s about a week or two away yet the farmers say.

Will be fun going to the coast with Lisa, a travel nurse friend of mine I med in 2000 and we worked several assignments together. We all got together when Lisa and I were working in Nevada and Laura came for a visit. We all went exploring together, and had lots of fun so I suspect this trip will be fun too. I am NOT going fishing LOL I am not paying to puke. I tried it once, oh lordy, I took the first Taxi boat back to shore. So I will man Laura's campsite and babysit the dogs until they get back. She is camping at the Casino RV park and Lisa and I are in a hotel for 2 nights. Should be a really good time and much cooler there.
Shirl I always cook my corn on the cob in the micro with the husks on too. It always comes out so good and when I squeeze the one end it comes out the other and no silk, YES. I dont freeze it tho, My freezer is way too full as it is.

Sue I have those cluster boxes here (pretty flimsy I think) but I get mostly advertisements in the mail. I get all other things online. I also subscribe to USPS Informed Delivery. I get an email every morning with pictures of first class mail in my mailbox so I know if I should run right down there. Sure does help. Tells me how many pieces of mail each day. Pretty cool I think.

Put the first coat of water sealer and stain on my front deck. Soaked it right up, so very dry, not sure it has ever been done. So today will put the second coat on pretty soon as it is going to be in the 90's today. Need to get some breakfast for stamina LOL then get out there and start applying. I also need to go to Lowes to pick up my Zero G hose for the carport. I had one of those expandible ones but dragging it thru the mulch it managed to spring lots of little holes. Totally my fault. I have a Zero G hose for the mulch area, and the expandible on my deck and back yard....no mulch. My hydrangeas are beautiful this year, just ask the deer. Damn they were out there again last night, they only seem to eat the blooms tho. But they dont bother my tomatoes in the back yard thank goodness.

OK off to get some brekkie and then stain, take a shower and go to Lowes ha ha busy morning. Cause ya all know I am done after lunch.

Good morning,

Shirl, happy you are getting some relief! Our mornings seem cooler but still 90s - not that I really care since I have nothing to do outside. Laura, nice to see a post from you and your fun plans. I have had the Hells Canyon jet boat on my list for years and finally made my reservations yesterday including an overnight at their lodge in the canyon. Hoping it will be a clear night - I'd like to see stars again!

Sue, I believe it's Catherine with the mailbox issue. I also have informed delivery, but I but have had mail not make the list - 3 of them with checks. I bought a couple ears of corn Monday and then forgot I had them! Also got more watermelon - have really enjoyed it this year. Sheila, when my granddaughter's other grandmother was having cancer treatment, my granddaughter sent a lot of knitted hats to the cancer center with her. They were free of course, but some of the recipients got my GD's address and sent her yarn money.

Yesterday was one of those 'can't stay awake days' even after a good night's sleep. 4 hour nap! Afternoon baseball game today - maybe I'll finally dust during commercials.

Sue, your temps sound lovely! I look forward to seeing things cool down a bit out here in a month or so.
And yep, it was me that had the mailboxes vandalized. I do subscribe to USPS Informed Delivery so I was able to see that nothing important was in there. I wasn't expecting anything so I hope the Informed Delivery was accurate. :( But I will be bringing in my mail every evening from now on.

DD in starting.a new job in France. She needed to fill out some paperwork to get things rolling so she & I were researching things from 12:30 AM until 6:30 this morning. I am dragging so will join the nap crew this afternoon.

Speaking of movies... DD went to see the Barbie movie & absolutely loved it! She said it wasn't made for little girls, but women (probably younger than our crowd) who had been little girls. She went with a group of girlfriends & will go again with a girlfriend who couldn't make it with the others. She really raved about it.

My agent just came by to drop off some flyers and then told me that he got a call from an agent who has a client who is interested in my place site unseen (probably for rental investment) and might possibly put in a full cash offer soon! :o Almost too good to be true but will see what transpires...fingers crossed! He will let me know when he talks to the agent again later.

I ran some errands earlier today. It is getting hotter again outside, clear and breezy. I was gonna use the leaf blower outside but think I will wait until dusk when it cools off a bit and there is more shade on that side of the house.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Sue, in Sacramento, mail people have been robbed of keys at gunpoint. Post Office can't keep up with replacing huge rings of keys and locks! So far our cul de sac off a dead end street has been lucky, though people on corner had catalytic converter sawed out of their pickup in their driveway about six mo ago.
It's been quiet here. We did make it to recycle sons massive can and bottle collection and by store to get 2 RXs . It's been 90 today- they lied and sad it would only be 85! I've had fun watching 6-7 doves squabbling over food and birdbath.
Laura, I envy you the fishing trip! Haven't been in decades !
Good luck on sale Barbie, you better start shopping! If it goes for cash to be rental, they may want you out like yesterday!

Karen, saw video posted by nursery owner who sprays plants with deer replenished Plantskydd. Said lasts 3 month and does not harm pollinators.

Karen have you thought to put up a motion light that would shine on the deer I would think it would spook them so they would run away and since it's motion they wouldn't get used to it... a possibility maybe...
we had rain this morning was so nice... didn't water plants tonight and according to the phone weather report suppose to rain tomorrow we will see... it was suppose to rain tonight but hasn't that I know of... it was cold enough that the door stayed closed wore a warmer top and had hot chocolate tonight
was going to make taco's but when I was at the store there was corn on the cob so got some so did hot dogs, tots, and corn... mom ate pretty well actually really well... it's one of those things some days she does then other days she doesn't
I put in another row on the slouchy hat for my dd and thought it's just too big... so decided to pull it all out as I looked at the wrapper with the information on it... it was super bulky... I think that was the reason it was working up about twice what she said it would be.. so guess I will find another purpose or the yarn and go get the correct size of yarn for the beanie.... I might try to make some beanies for cancer patients but I have a feeling that after "covid" they are reluctant to accept home made items at least for now... although why as if they were set aside for a period of time they wouldn't be an issue...
tomorrow not going anywhere so maybe just maybe I will get the floors vacuumed and start working on the fringe of the Swedish Weave... I need to sew down the ends of the yarn and then pull out the strands to create the fringe
things sounds promising Barbie sorta had to laugh when you mentioned the previous realtor being a bit disjointed that you didn't sign up with her again... usually even with a cash offer though you will have time to move a month or so... it will be written in when you sign the papers... but now the fun starts you can go looking with a big thought that it will happen sooner than later... have fun
you all have a great day

I remembered rabbits for a change. It was 103 again. I'm hoping August starts the countdown to cooler weather. I mowed part of the yard yesterday. Tonight I was watching the 6:00 news and weather and it looked like we had a storm coming. I hurried up and finished mowing but the rain missed us.

I never have microwaved corn in the husk. I haven't messed with corn in the husk in a years and I remember finding worms sometimes. That's what I think of when someone talks about cooking corn in the husks. lol

I try to have my important mail go to the post office box since I have a box on the side of the road. I haven't heard of any problems lately but at one time someone was taking mail out of the boxes. If I mail a check I bring it to the post office.

I decided I wanted a covered skillet so went to Lafayette. I have some pots that came from Marshall's so went there to see if they had a skillet to match my pots. Now Marshals is with Home Goods and the store is jam packed. It's hard to even get down the aisles. Found some candy covered peanuts that I love and managed to not buy cookies.

My mother use to make a tomato dish and I didn't know what to call it to look for a recipe. I got an email with a recipe for Scalloped Tomatoes that sounds like what she made. I don't know how good it would be with the tomatoes they sell in the grocery store now.
