Morning Monday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Morning Monday

Postby Bethers » Mon Jul 31, 2023 11:17 am

I'm definitely out of the desert. I took a shower this morning and went to walk Ty with wet hair. It's been about an hour and a half, maybe two and my hair is still damp lol. So I checked a weather app and it's 83% humidity outside. I show 53% inside. I vacuumed before our walk and want to do laundry, but kind of waiting to hear something from the manager about my hours, etc. Maybe I'll walk down to the office in a bit. The weather app is also showing a chance of rain this afternoon. I'm fine with being a slug today. I didn't (yet) hook up to their cable. But I have lots of over the air channels and am happy with my Roku, but checked and their cable has a couple channels I wouldn't mind. Wow, so many choices lol. And hear I am watching ION and a program I've seen before.

Last day of July

Postby Othersharon » Mon Jul 31, 2023 11:35 am

Just turning into afternoon and it’s another beautiful day. Lower temperature and less humidity. I managed to get Buddy out for a good walk yesterday an mowed the yard. Neighbors did the front so I just had to do the back. Will get out and do some edging today plus just getting ready to go for a walk. Have a load of clothes in the dryer so need to wait for that to finish so I can get things out and folded before they wrinkle! Plus throw the sheets in and the dryer then and let them do their thing! So not much else happening today. Hard to believe July is about over and if August goes as fast we’ll be looking at fall chores! Barbie, hope you’re able to get a fairly quick sale for your house. Sounds like your realtor is motivated. Sorry after all your work you had to deal with a windstorm! And Beth, you’re where you’ll be for awhile. Judy, hope you’re able to get the part fixed and able to continue on! Know I’m missing a lot of comments but dryer calls and Buddy’s getting impatient! Stay cool and safe!

Hello Everybody
Beth, where are you working. I must have missed that post.

Sandi and BJ. There are many people who feel that same way about going to see Oppenheimer. I couldn’t get anybody to go with me, so I went alone.

Carol, I am so sorry that you are afraid to go into a movie theater. We are living in a time of fear and we hear it from all the media. People are afraid to go into cities, children don’t want to go to school and I can’t tell you the number of people who think I should be afraid to go to Mexico.

Anne, I am not a movie critic and I don’t read reviews. If I think I can learn something from a movie I will go. I already knew a lot about Oppenheimer and the Manhattan Project and I have been to Oak Ridge in Knoxville, Tennessee. I went to see what this director had to say and I’m glad I went. It cost me $8.00 and several hours of my time. What this movie taught me was the story about how Oppenheimer’s security clearance was later denied and he was never able to work on government research again. Questions about his loyalty were brought to the Atomic Commission by a vindictive man named
Lewis Strauss who thought he had been slighted by Oppenheimer years earlier. The story goes on. If you go to see the movie, let me know and I’ll give you a call and we can talk about it. Enjoy today. Peggy

Was up for almost an hour last night listening to the wind howling! Just woke up at 9:30. The wind is calm but looks like a lot of sand and debris in the street, so I imagine my deck and driveway are a mess. Might have to go out with my leaf blower and blow everything off again. It is dreary out and I hear thunder which is very rare for out here. Might get rain here after all. The dew point is at 70* now which is in the tropical/oppressive catagory! Also extremely rare for this area! That kind of humidity with 110* heat is just nasty! I guess Mother Nature is making up for the great cool weather we had in May and June! At least it is just about August so only a couple more months of this left.

Other than blowing off the dust, I have a couple phone calls to make and then will take it easy for the rest of the day. My agent will be back later today. I think the house will officially be on the market today. Yay!

I am very stiff and sore today! Too bad it is so hot out or I could go soak in the hot tub for awhile. I am sure the pools and hot tubs are filled with sand, etc, so the pool guy will be busy today cleaning all of them out. I am sure he dreads the dust storms more than I do! He has his work cut out for him today for sure!

Beth, yes, remind us of what kind of work you will be doing again? I know you are at the amusement park in Des Moines.

Have a good day!

No, not the amusement park. I'm at a KOA just west of Des Moines. I'll be in the office, which also makes some food (pizza, chicken wings). I do prefer non -campground positions, but they contacted me and we agreed on 2 months, with a possible couple extra weeks if we agree at the end. We shall see lol

I just went out to check things out and took some photos. Then it started raining hard. But only long enough to turn all the dust to mud! Still hearing thunder tho.

This is the 4X6 rug I have on the deck that was flying around during the storm. It landed mostly flat but one corner was folded over. You can see the difference!

This door opens to the underside of the house. It has latches that hold it shut and is very heavy!

Good morning!

Barbie, I remember our first big windstorm in Palm Springs - Yuck! Beth, I know humidity is awful back there, but happy you are parked. If I were in the Seattle area, I wouldn't want to go anywhere - shootings at malls, gas stations, grocery stores and the list goes on. Have already decided I don't want to fly any time soon with mechanical issues and crazy people! And, yes, I realize road accidents happen, too. :D I like light books and movies so Oppenheimer won't be on my list.

Got ready to go to my daughter's for dinner last night and car wouldn't start. I was going to jump it myself this morning since I have an outlet available here, but couldn't get clamps on plus that's what roadside service is for. I'll go to the store when they get it started. It was really nice to visit with my daughter in person. :) She goes back to work August 29. I thought she was applying for a new job, but no, she was helping with interviews! Will call for an audiology appointment later - through my insurance and have to wait for a callback.

Don't' forget 'rabbits'!

I am back on the road after getting my water pump replaced. Nice to have water!! Afterwards, I drove over to the Ford place that had "fixed" my radiator hose before it blew up, and told them I was satisfied with the aftermarket one, but I wanted a different technician to visually check the hose to make sure it was installed correctly and still not leaking. So the service person sent someone out who inspected it and said it ws good.

I am headed to a state park tonight for two nights. It is northeast of Detroit quite a ways, but a shorter drive than the one south of Detroit that I usually stay at. With my trip to Traverse City and to my campground, it will be 240 miles, which is more than I really want, but parks are busy right not.

Just had a snack at a rest area, and going to get moving again.

Thank you so very much, Peggy. I, too, know something about Oppenheimer and the Manhatten project. As I stated on another thread, many years ago I visited the United States Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio. They had on display full-size replicas of both Fat Man and Little Boy. I found them fascinating. Horrifying, but fascinating just the same.

I definitely plan to see the movie. I am the kind a person who likes to know how things work, what makes people do what they do, and the why and the how of things happening. It is my own personal armor against the world.

I am a person who prefers to understand the implications of things, rather than to ignore them.

When I was a young girl, I was just old enough to grasp the terrible implications of the Cuban Missile Crisis. I was pretty much beside myself, often weeping and inconsolable about the situation, and could not understand why my family didn't immediately rush to build a bomb shelter in our backyard.

I was even old enough to realize that the "drop and cover" procedure that was suddenly being taught at school would be totally ineffective should the unthinkable happen - and the possibility of this unthinkable thing happening seemed only a blink away.

Finally my father, who seemed to me to be always distant, and never affectionate, took me aside. As I remember it, he put his arm around me and said: "If this doesn't happen, you will have had nothing to worry about. And, if it does happen, you still will have nothing to worry about".

At first I didn't understand what he meant, tried to argue with him, but he refused to elaborate further, just telling me to "think about what he had said".

I thought at the time that he was just being needlessly obfuscate and, yes, stupid. I realize now that he had his own terrible fears, but did not want to alarm his young daughter even further, only wishing to comfort her - without denying, or belittling, the then very distinct possibility of come what may.

It did not take too long for me to understand his meaning, once I took the time to ponder upon it.

I have carried his words with me to this day, as his statement can be applied to so many different situations in our lives.

Peggy, I likely will not see the film until it comes out on streaming. Several of the reviews have said that the dialogue is difficult to understand, often muffled by music and sound effects. At home I can have subtitles and headphones. My local theatre advertises subtitles and headphones, but when I have tried them there before both have been "out of order". I'll wait until I can see it at home.

I am quite looking forward to it.

I hope that we can speak together then!! I would love to discuss this movie.

Thank you so very much for the offer, Peggy. Very much appreciated!!

Anne

My sister wants me to go see Sound of Freedom. I told her when I can get it streaming I'll watch, but, I've read about it and the number of things that have strayed from the truth so I'll watch it with a grain of salt or more than a grain, when that time comes. I'm most concerned about it making people not understand that most human trafficking does not happen like in the movie. In other words, don't stop watching family and friends, etc.

Well my day didnt start out very well. Was up and took the dog outside and when I came back in our electricity was off........this was tragic ....NO CPFFEE Even more tragic I had an early doc appt for my eye injections. Well I took a shower, in the dark. It just came back on now, 7 hours later. The good part is it came back on in time for the afternoon heat. 88 today I also got my car washed and the side deck washed. Lets hope it stays on. It went out yesterday (blown transformer they said) but only for a couple of hours. I have no idea what the problem was today but found out the crews come from Medford, Coos Bay (at the coast) so it takes a while.....sigh I cant complain too loudly as it has only gone off once or twice since I lived here and came back on quickly. Oh well such is life.

Now I am going to fix something to eat before it goes off again. My watermelon and 3 cookies didnt cut it!!!!!

Anne, that basically was so that you could put your head between your knees and kiss your arse good-bye! :o It never fooled me.

Well, it is official. We had a Haboob blast thru here! Lots of damage all around the valley and some here in the park. One person's shed roof was peeled back. The last Haboob we had was the one that took down my tree in back.

Sophie has been sleeping on the bed with me all day. She is getting sweeter all the time. :D

I haven't been to a movie theater for many years. It is complicated now. You need to make reservations and choose a seat, etc, ahead of time. I liked it better when you could just decide to go see a movie and show up, buy a ticket and sit where ever you wanted when you got there.

Have had a headache all day. Maybe from stress and/or maybe from being a little dehydrated. Took a nap earlier. Now need to find some dinner.

I went and had lunch with 6 of my camping friends a little North of Lafayette. After lunch we went to a coffee shop to continue the visit. About the time we were ready to leave it started storming. The wind was blowing the rain sideways and we even had marble size hail. The electricity went off in the coffee shop. We finally got out of there about 5, just in time for people getting off work. I just thought the traffic was bad in Lafayette. There is a big FedEx and Amazon warehouse up that way. I don't know if that's where all the traffic came from but it was bad. It looked like it was raining ahead of me all the way home but it hadn't rained at all here. The rain went to the West. It got up to 105 here today. That has to be some kind of record.

From 1958 to 1961 my family lived in Shreveport and my dad was stationed at the Air Force Base in Bossier City. I don't remember what was going on with the cold war then but my friend and I were more worried about our horses than our family. There was a camp about 60 miles South that we had been to. We thought we could ride our horses to the camp to save them if anything happened.

Barbie, you could take a mud bath in the hot tub. lol What a mess.

that was some wind Barbie... even though you have to redo what you did at least you didn't have any damage... I'm always amazed at what the wind can do... very glad that you didn't have any damage... love seeing the cats hanging around
I laughed in one o the recent Hallmark Mysteries and movie was a new mystery show think it had dancing something it might some anyway it takes place in Malta and every once in awhile they will span the old buildings and here will be this kitty same one happens two ro three times during the movie I wonder if it was accidental or on purpose ... or a combo
didn't start out to be a do nothing day but turned out that way I had all sorts of plans but made the mistake of deciding to work on the hat finished the one round and then started the second round so had to look that up but then I did a few stitches but wasn't sure I was doing the stitch correctly so went and found a tutorial on how to do it and I was doing it right after I'd pulled out the stitches I'd done on the second round if the gal had showed the back side in her showing how to do the pattern I'd wouldn't have questioned it and also found another hat that I'd like to do it looks like it would be easy as I watched the gal for a bit but looks like it has a lot of pattern to it...
need to get back to the bedroom it's when I try to be back there but also want to do a couple of games just so I'm back there before midnight so I can do rabbits and not have to worry about talking with mom
we had so rain tonight hopefully enough to water the plants because I didn't go out and water them
glad you got your pump fixed Judy
I haven't been to a movie in years and probably would choose a lighter fair...
you all have a great day
