hot dusty Sunday

It is just after 7am and I am already up and at'em! It is already 90* but there is a nice breeze to go with it so that is good. Just moved my car across the street and cleared off the deck and already taking a break to cool off. I closed up the porch and opened the slider to the living room. Am hoping to get the porch cooled off a bit so it will be more comfortable to work out there later on.
Will blow off all the dust from the deck, then vacuum, and then hose it off good. I took off the screen door and need to wash that since the stray cats have sprayed on it. Have my deck furniture on the lawn to hose that all off too. Whew! Need to get that done quickly before the heat really increases! Wish I could find my goggles! I will wear a mask while blowing off all the dust.

I discovered a open crack on my heel yesterday. I have thick callouses on my heels and felt some pain last night when I stepped down, and there is an open crack. So I cleaned it out good and put on a bandaide today with anti-biotic ointment under it. Hope it stays on good today.

Good morning Barbie. Dont want to brag but we are 54 this morning warming to 86. Just sitting here sipping coffee then will go out and do my watering chores. Put my solar ground lights around my Hydrangeas, dont know if it will help but it looks nice at night LOL

Going to cook up bacon this morning before it gets warm in here. Doing the whole pound in the oven then can just pull a couple pieces out when it suits me. Have a few ripe tomatoes so a BLT will definitely work for me today. I am going to get the front deck washed this morning then tomorrow will get out and stain it. Will need two coats it hasnt been stained for years. The back still needs a second coat but that will happen one of these days. At least the front deck is smaller (still good sized) but about a third of the size of the back Just going to putter today. Need to change my bed linen today, got the guest room all ready in case I have a visitor again LOL Watched a Netflix mystery movie yesterday afternoon it was just okay but easy to watch, kind of jumbled up but hey it kept me company ha ha So will be on the hunt again today. I think I am too darn picky.

Happy to see Sheila and Cheryl had a good tour yesterday. Always fun to get together with our forum buds. Well coffee is gone so time to get that bacon in the oven before it warms up.

I saw the new movie “Oppenheimer” yesterday and it was a reminder of how close we were and still can be to mass destruction. I love New Mexico and think it’s the one state I could live in and be happy if I ever left New England. Trading green for brown, but the state is so beautiful.
I’ve never been to Los Alamos, and Beverly and I plan to stop there on our way to Mexico in October. Enjoy your day. Peggy

Good morning Barbie, Karen, Peggy and all who follow.

Looking like a nice morning today at 8:17 a.m. Yesterday's high here was predicted to be 93*, by 5:00 p.m. it was (of course) about *100. I expect the same today.

Barbie, I really feel for you having to work out in such heat. Lord knows it is hot enough where I live, but not nearly so hot as you get there in the desert.

When I lived up in the foothills (where it gets plenty hot in the summer as well) what I used to do when I had a lot of outside chores - gardening, fixing fence, whatever - what I would do on a hot day is put on long pants and a lighweight long-sleeved shirt (one that buttoned at the wrist was best - my favorite shirt of this kind was a man's white dress shirt that I bought at the local thrift store for about a dollar) and a wide-brimmed cloth hat I got from Walmart.

When I was all decked out in my summer "gardening duds", I would go out to the side of my house, take a deep breath (LOL!) and totally drench myself and my clothes and hat with water from my hose. Felt like instant, portable, AC!! (The deep breath part was because the water was cold when it hit my clothes). The shock of the cold water would wear off in a minute or two, and I would be then very comfortable working outside in the 100* degree weather, so long as my clothes were damp.

Of course, it being so hot, they would dry fairly quickly, but when they did I just made a quick trip back to the hose. I was generally able to work outside several hours, even on really hot days, by using this method.

It probably would not have worked so well if I was going in and out of my house a lot (didn't want to drip water all over my floor), but the actual "drippyness" soon passed in the heat, so (if needed) I was happy to go in and out with wearing damp clothes.

Ah, I do miss my foothill life, and my view of my mountains (those were the days, for sure!) but I am mostly happy these days where I am.

Good morning, Peggy! I have known about the Oppenheimer film for quite a while, and am quite looking forward to seeing it. What did you think of it? The reviews of it I have read seem fairly mixed.

My (ex) husband and I lived in Dayton, Ohio, for part of a year about thirty-five years ago. Dayton is, of course, the home of the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and on the base is an amazing Air Force museum, open to the public:

Wonderful displays of military aircraft, both new and old, and a lot of other things to see as well.

I was particularly fascinated by the full-size replicas of "Fat Man" and "Little Boy" on display at the museum. Although they were only replicas, I stood there staring at them for quite a while, amazed and in awe. It was difficult to comprehend the massive destruction they were capable of, they were both really quite small.

Made it back to Wyoming and a driving the Tetons visit with Sheila yesterday. Was so good to see her again. A good visit, hearing some more of her family history. Weather was beautiful and Punkin was a real trooper being stuck in the truck all day long. He's still sleeping today. Lazy bum.

Not sure what's on the agenda today, but I'll head back into the park Monday or Tuesday.

I’m not going to see Oppenheimer. Just the thought of the subject gives me bad feelings. Life is so short. I’d rather spend time walking out in nature with my two pups and appreciating all the beauty rather than contemplating the destruction atomic/nuclear weapons could bring. We’re already ruining the Earth with global warming and the thought of those weapons in the hands of world leaders is terrifying.

So my little pup companions and I are on our way out the door to enjoy our beautiful weather and the beautiful location where we live. I’ll be using my new app to identify the many birds we’ll encounter along the way. I hope you all have a wonderful day too doing something that makes you happy.

We had a storm come in late yesterday but thankfully it pretty much by passed our part of town we did have thunder and lightening. Several towns around had severe wind and torrential rain. Also one part of town and several surrounding towns still had power outages today. It did bring the horrible heat and humidity down though!!! It is only 87 and feels like 92. This day seems to have gone on forever I think I'll go out and see if Home Goods has anymore of my new favorite French Butter Cookies.

Anne your heat wear sounded like a good idea.

I don't plan to watch the Oppenheimer or the Barbie movie. A friend in Texas decorated a van all in pink for her teenage girls to take their friends to see Barbie. They of course all dressed like Barbie.

I've been wondering also. What you sent me is still in a place of honor here in the RV.

I'm at the RV park I'll be working the next couple months. I pushed to get here today, hopefully early, because I wanted to go to the hot air balloons in Indianola tonight. I was a few hours behind schedule and got so sweaty hooking up, etc, that I'm going to check their schedule the rest of the week after I know my hours, which I'll get tomorrow, I'm sure. One of the staff here came to tell me there's a pot luck tonight. I just apologized and explained if I did anything tonight it would be the balloons, but I think walking Ty will be about all the energy I'll be able to muster.

I need to find out why all the sites here have good sized propane tanks on the lots. At least all in my section. I know I get a discount on propane but I can't imagine I'll get to hook up to the track on my site. Maybe these are mainly long term sites. Who knows.

Whew!! I am absolutely exhausted!! Barely had enough energy to make it to the shower! But I was filthy and sweaty. I pulled some muscles in my lower back so I am laying on my heating pad now.

What a long busy day! And then add in the heat and humidity! I worked non-stop for almost 8 hours (besides lots of quick breaks here and there to cool off and drink water). Got the deck, furniture, patio, sides of the house, and the driveway all blown off and hosed off. It was all SO dirty!! Usually stuff dried here really quick in the sun but with the high humidity now, it stayed wet almost all day! The dew point is 61 now!

My agent called to say he was coming over at 1pm to have me sign papers and to take photos. I panicked because that only gave me 1 1/2 hours to finish and that was not gonna happen. Luckily, he said we could do it at 3 instead. As it was, I barely got everything, inside and out, done by then. My feet hurt, my back hurt, my eyes burned (from the sweat and dust in my eyes), and I was getting really worn out. I got 'er done tho!

I still can't believe the last 2 agents here never listed my house on MLS. He showed me the current listings here that are all on MLS. Why they didn't put mine on there, I have no clue! But that could explain why no one asked to see it. There are currently 7 homes here for sale so not a lot of competition. He wants to list mine for $115,500 with some incentives.

He took a lot of photos and was really happy with how nice everything looked. I sure worked hard for that! Now I need to go looking for everything I put away that I need to have out and handy. I also need to make sure my place stays nice, neat and clean every day. That is the hard part. It doesn't seem to take long for it to get disheveled.

Tomorrow, I am taking the day off from everything! I am sure I will be plenty sore anyways. I will start on Tuesday to get some of the other little projects done.

I had a really nice visit with my cousin. I was #8 out of 27 first cousins, and she was #5, although there was 8 years between us. She was my babysitter for a lot of my life, and my parents were involved in a lot of clubs and activities. She reminded me that my parents left me at her house when I was a baby a lot of times. I also remember my mother telling me that she and my dad took flying lessons when I was two years old, and when they went on flying lessons, they sometimes left me with a mechanic in the airport hanger!! My mother and dad lived across the street from one another when they were teenagers, and that was only a couple of blocks from her house at the time.

Anyway, it was fun talking about other cousins and trying to figure out the truths about old family stories. I have known for some time that each aunt and uncle told us a slightly different story about a lot of happenings. Then we went over to the casino grill and had sandwiches, plus I took home a salad, which she took home a hotdog and cookie. Mostly, she was trying to spend $50 of credit she had amassed on her casino card because she and her husband don't go there anymore. They are both still driving, but aren't getting around walking as well anymore.

I have to get up early tomorrow so I can head back to Traverse City to get my water pump replaced. I've had city water for the last couple of campsites and have really enjoyed being able to take a real shower instead of one where I have to pour a bucket of water over myself!! Then I have a 200 mile drive for my tomorrow night campground, so I hope the water pump fix goes quickly because it will be a long day. Wish me luck!!

I did get a few things accomplished today, Got the front deck all washed so will get my butt out there in the morning to put the first coat of stain on it. When that dries then I will stain the back part of the stairs with a brush. Was not too hot today and we had a light breeze. Darn good thing because our electricity went out about 4 and their text was that it would be restored by 3 AM Oh my. But it came on about 6:30 I think they just give us a longer time limit so people wont get irritated if it doesnt come on by such and such a time. So 3 am worked for them. It coming back on when it did worked for me.

Beth glad you have arrived at your destination ha ha Cheryl had a good visit as did Judy. Barbie got her house all fixed up so fingers crossed she has a quick sale. I am now just relaxing.

Not sure about Oppenheimer - a little curious though, but it's a definite NO to the Barbie movie. I've stopped watching the news except once in a while. We have some crazy people in powerful positions & the news just rehashes the same stuff over & over. Everything is so dramatic! They go for sensationalism & rankings.

Yesterday was Olivia's 8th birthday party. They had invited 18 children along with their parents - the pool was the most popular spot. I was a bit worried with so many kids, but parents were extremely attentive in watching their own kids & keeping an eye out on what was going on.

This morning I noticed that our complex's mailboxes had been vandalized overnight. One guy said they were fine a few hours earlier when he drove out, so it happened between 5-7am. All the boxes had been opened & all mail removed. Thankfully I get daily email updates from USPS to see what's being delivered & I didn't have anything important in there but I will start bringing it in on a daily basis from now on.

We also now have a coyote which has taken residence by the creek outside the complex gates. Yesterday he was on the other side of the creek, just curled up relaxing until he spotted Sadie & I walking. I high-tailed it back to get inside our complex. He just got up watched us go. Then in the morning he was on our side of the creek just a short way outside the gate. We have a real problem with coyotes here, but I haven't seen any for a while. We'll stick to walking inside the complex for a while.

I'm ready for cooler weather but it looks like I'm going to have to wait for that. At least it's only in the 90's here.
