Saturday it is!

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Saturday it is!

Postby SoCalGalcas » Sat Jul 22, 2023 12:43 pm

Today is the 13rh birthday of my GGD. Big party at parents home.
Comic-Con is here and going strong. Seems to be more people on the street, and very few costumes. All the hotels near are full, I wanted to take a few pictures, but couldn’t tell costumes from crazy people living down-town!
Our ewe at her has been nice. I went in the pool a few times. Using the cane because of my unsteady gate.
We had our patio sealed and it really looks nice.

Morning, glad to see you Lyn. I was working out in the yard today shoveling more dirt into the raised beds, redoing the water system in that. Deadheaded some flowers, watered, moved my 2 cedar planters off the front porch. They are not getting enough sun so relocated them to the back yard. Then watered and fertilized them in hopes they might come back. Needed to move them anyway as I am getting ready to stain the front deck. Will power wash it tomorrow so it can dry. By this time I was soaking wet and it was not even 11 yet. So came in and hopped in the shower, couldnt even stand myself. Getting ready to have a bite of lunch, Henry was busy this morning so think I will just dust and call it good.

Can't believe it is only noon here!

A neighbor came by early to help me bring my new microwave into the house from my car. Besides the heat, I didn't want to have it in my car when I go up to the job fair in Desert Hot Springs. That town has a large crime problem and since my doors on my car don't all lock, I didn't want to take any chances.

I needed to get a copy of my resume printed and my printer isn't working on-line. So I emailed it to the local mailbox
business and then went there to get a copy of it made. Stopped at WM Marketplace to pick up a couple things and then came home. I put the resume on the floor next to my purse by the door so I won't forget it later for the job fair. A while later I hear paper crinkling and look over and see Sophie chewing up my resume in pieces!! No!! Luckily, I was able to print a copy of it with my printer with a blank piece of paper behind it so the missing pieces didn't show up. Whew!

So now I need to clean up and wash my hair and head out in awhile. Takes about a half hour to get up there. It isn't quite as hot today and the clouds are rolling in. Supposed to be rain coming to southern CA but nothing predicted for here. We just get cooler temps, clouds, and a little higher humidity.

My "energizer bunny" ran out of batteries. :( Need to get that back soon! Only one week until August 1st! So hard when it is so hot outside, and warmer than I like inside. I decided not to paint until I get better brushes. I bought a cheap one and it is crappy. Maybe will stop on the way home later today and pick up a couple nicer brushes.

Time for lunch. Have a nice day!

I had an exciting afternoon yesterday. It started thundering so of course Sugar wanted out. I walked out on the back porch with her. As soon as we went out it looked like lightening struck in the back yard of the old house and we got ourselves back in the house. I don't know what it struck but it was close enough to trip the breaker to the electricity in the back bedroom. It took me a long time to get the internet to come back on and I was afraid I was going to have to call the company. After the weather passed I walked out to check if the electricity was still on in the motorhome. It's on a different meter. When I was getting out of the motorhome my foot slipped off the step. I was holding on the to bar by the door and my whole weight jerked on my shoulder. I thought I had torn something in my shoulder and couldn't move my arm. I was in so much pain I thought I might pass out. I had to sit on the carport for a while before I could get back in the house. I was wondering if I wold be able to drive if I had to go to the emergency room. I decided to take my shirt off and in the process my shoulder popped and went back in place. It was out of joint. After that it didn't hurt. My shoulder is sore today but nothing like yesterday. My left knee is hurting but it always hurts. I tried 5 minutes on the bike but that didn't help. I need to find a doctor for my knee sooner rather than later. The two orthopedic doctors I have seen in Abbeville have both retired. It's a good thing I was holding on when I got out of the motorhome. If I had fallen there I would probably have broken my hip.

It's up to 98 so not doing much today. It was 100 yesterday. The weather says a 90% chance of rain but don't think it's suppose to get here until tonight. Great, the grass will grow some more.

Lyn, that's funny bout the costumes and the crazy people. Someone on TV was wondering if the writers and actor's strike would affect Comic-Con. I wish they would settle the strike, I'm tired of the reruns on the late night shows. I sure wish I had access to a pool. The nearest campground with a pool is about 30 miles and I don't want to go swimming that bad. I guess I could join the country club. lol

Tomorrow I have the monthly hospice dine around. It's at one of the popular seafood restaurants in Lafayette.

Barbie, hope you have some luck at the job fair.

Good to see you Lyn. Happy Birthday to your ggd!
Good luck with the job fair, Barbie. I'm so glad nothing is broken, Martha. That's my big fear.
.I turned in the paperwork for the committee that approves building, repairing, etc. They will be out Tuesday morning. I'm told it should be automatically approved. Fingers crossed. The contractor will get his two boys to me Monday and I'll pick which one I want. I should also hear from the insurance adjuster on Monday. More fingers crossed. So, I'll not leave until Wednesday morning. No one should need inside the Casita, but the office has keys if there's a reason they do end up needing in. The contractor wants to get this going as soon as he can around his other jobs because I have no leaks now but that roof isn't providing any cover with anything at this point and monsoon season is coming. I'm surprised when we had a little rain yesterday that I didn't see leaks onto the porch. The insulation must have just soaked it up. Again, there wasn't much.

I've got the RV fridge back on, so will move everything back into it tomorrow. Ty and I will probably completely move in tomorrow also. Then I can get everything in here covered, etc till I return in the spring.

Martha, so glad your fall wasn't any worse and that your shoulder popped back into place. Lyn, always good to see your posts. I know of two towns complaining about those rental scooters - after your experience, I saw that coming. Beth, fingers crossed that repairs go well. Barbie, will be anxious to hear how job fair goes. Sheila, a photo of recipient and their afghan should be a given! You have put a lot of work on those!

Just enjoyed a very exciting Seattle baseball game! Talked with my brother again this morning and will take the Sling over Wednesday. It's about a 5 hour drive including a ferry ride. Made reservations for Thursday to take Greyhound bus to train station north of Seattle and then train to Leavenworth. Now have to pack up all the stuff that goes with the Sling. Today is Kansas aunt's 94th birthday. They offered to take her out, but she was fixing a roast for noon meal when I talked to her. We are back below 100. I will say that my electric bill was less than $30 even with running 2 or 3 fans and a/c at times.

Ha! Well, that was pretty much a disaster! What a joke that job fair was!
It was out in the desert on an abandoned street, in the high heat and high winds. So much for making my hair look nice!
There were no signs on where to go, no buildings, just a street in the middle of nowhere. I ended up asking someone who was parked on the street and they told me where to park (anywhere). Then I saw the vendor tents. All 10 of them! I parked on the street and found the tent for the temp service. I asked them where the job fair was at. They said there will be vendors set up for different places looking for workers. I hadn't seen any on my way in but I got there a little early so some vendors were still setting up. I walked back to my car for a half hour to cool off and then went back. No job vendors. I asked again at the temp service booth and they said it was too hot for interviews (?? with whom?) so they took my name and said they will call me if a job comes up. :? So why did I drive all the way out there? There were about 5 people walking around. What a poorly organized event! Nothing like I had imagined at all. My eyes are burning from the dust and sand blowing thru there (it is always really windy in that part of the valley, hence all the windmills in the distance). I figured it would be in the parking lot of a new cannabis manufacturer (that is what I was told) with interviews happening inside. Nope! No buildings around but looks like the road is new and they are planning to build something in that area eventually. But for now, it is just barren desert. I can't imagine how they thought they were gonna charge anyone anything for that. Luckily, no one asked for money.

Here is the flyer they sent me about it and photos of where it was...

Putting a shoulder out of joint and having it pop back in makes my knees weak! Good thing you were hanging on to something, at least. I do worry about falling.

I took a small loaf of homemade bread over to a neighbor in this fairgrounds campground, and the wife gave me a small jar of homemade cherry jam!! Neat trade. And they are from out-of-state and when we talked about food, I mentioned Vernor's ginger ale, and they had never had any, so I took them two bottles of it. No one should be allowed to leave Michigan without trying Vernor's!!!

Took it easy today, but tomorrow is lunch with my niece. Going to meet her at the mall and she will pick me up. I don't get to see here more than once in a year or so.

Take it easy, everyone. No more falling!!!

a hot day today think it was in the low 90's for us that is way hot... my mom's theory is that because of the elevation it's hotter than it would at a lower one... don't know if it's true or not but we really feel it when it's that hot and most people don't have A/C bought a fan at Walmart yesterday but I don't know how to charge it has usb cord but can't get it to plug into the fan it's really bad when something that simple becomes so tech hard... :o
I was going to mention to dd #2 about taking a picture when I saw her last night but totally forgot we weren't there long anyway just long enough for mom to use the bathroom...
saw on FB that my granddaughter got engaged today... I would have loved a phone call but I'm sure that all were just excited
I can't imagine you without the singshot Anita I bet it is just weird thinking of it but with it being with the brother hopefully you will get to used it occasionally
what a disappointment that job fair was Barbie yes I'm sure heat had a lot to do with it but I would have thought anyone in there right mind wouldn't have had it outside anyway not in the summer in that area known for over the top heat
Lyn good to hear from you how is your son doing? hopefully he is improving... as we hope that Sharon's granddaughter is as well... She is going through a lot
did get stuff in from the car some is still on my bed could have started a new afghan tonight but not sure of how I want the colors to go... usually there is a somewhat darker color which I usually put it on the border but in this case they are mostly lighter brighter colors so really not sure what I am going to do...
what order the colors are going to be in... I bought this prettiest yarn yesterday the information on it says to use a N hook which is a large hook so looked for hooks that size found a set of three sizes one I use all the time got them in bamboo hoping that they would be easier on the hands... I'd like to make that hat again for an adult but not sure what adult... this lady started the patterns up for people to have easy to make patterns to make for those in need as in those going through cancer treatment so maybe I will do that it's just a really pretty color
ok I have a question while at my dd's yesterday she mentioned that she ought to get a cat as she has mice is there a particular breed that is a better "mouser" and is it intuitive for them or do you have to do something to teach them that it's good to go after that creature that is sneaking around?
you all have a great day

My thoughts exactly!! It is not like this type of heat is unusual for this time of year!

As far as mouser cats, many Humane Societies have "unadoptable" feral cats available for use on farms and outbuildings as mousers. Maybe she could check on that option. Otherwise there really isn't any type of cat who is a better mouser other than a feral, hungry cat. Maybe Martha could donate a couple cats!

Judy, I thought for sure I had torn something in my shoulder. I can move my arm all around but it's stiff today.

Barbie, sorry the job fair was a bust.

I think most cats are born knowing how to hunt. When we first moved in here mice were getting in around the dryer and the oven. The cat I had in the house then I had raised on a bottle and I didn't teach her to hunt. She would sit by where she could smell a mouse for hours and finally catch it. Sheila, if your daughter gets a cat she needs to keep it in the house or in a kennel for a couple of weeks. You can't just get a cat and turn it loose. It would probably run off.

I think Romeow would be a lousy mouser, but Sophie would be great! I had a cat and three ferrets once and still had mice in my apartment! None of them had any interest in them.
