July 3rd

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

July 3rd

Postby Colliemom » Mon Jul 03, 2023 9:07 am

Good Morning. 71° sunny and heading to about 87 and they say. Air quality here is good, has been for past few days. Whiff of smoke I smelled yesterday disappeared in a short time. It was a beautiful weekend, perfect actually and will be for next couple of days before some rain on Wednesday afternoon. Very quiet weekend too. Neighbors down the road did their fireworks show last night. Didn’t last very long, May e half hour or so. Piper was upset but I was able to keep her fairly comfty by me.

Waiting for primer on a few spots on my porch to dry, then going to get busy with the paint brush. Being under the roof, I will be out of the sun, plus trees are shading their area as well. Won’t take long to do what I want to do. Planning to run to town this afternoon, since it’s gong to be too hot to do anything. Need some fence boards to build another planter box, this one for a couple neighbors, one who has MS and needs things raised up so she can water and tend to plants, garden etc. They by chance had some pieces of lumber I can use for the legs and framing, so won’t need to buy much. And gave me a box of screws too. Will wait for Weather to cool down before I start though.

Karen, sorry to hear about the neighbors break-in. I’m fortunate to live in a small crime free neighborhood, at least so far. There’s one way in and same way out. We did have some minor break-ins over on the next road where the other part of the sub is, but nothing was really missing, so we think it was kids fooling around. One neighbor did find a hose and some piddly stuff in his shed that he didn’t know where it came from. But it stopped as mysteriously as it started. I have a 4 legged alarm here, as Piper barks at anything or anybody that comes within a hundred feet of this house. We also have neighborhood crime watch signs posted.

So, guess I had better get out there with the paint brush. Have a nice day everyone.

Morning Sue and All, mid eighties and very high humidity. I am exhausted just trying to stay alive with this unpredictable weather. I just ordered a large dehumidifier. I’m trying not to accumulate more stuff but the weather is getting more humid and I am not lowering the ac more. At least the aq is now Fair. Karen, the neighbor break in is unsettling. Barbies suggestion of motion detector lights for your back yard is a good one. You are tech savvy, maybe a flier to neighbors for a meeting to decide on group solutions, cameras, motion lights etc. I nominate you president of your community. Lol. Sorry instead of poor me I want to hit something but don’t want to hurt myself. Some days chocolates doesn’t do if. Be safe

How close is Lowes. Did intruders walk from some parking lot?

Sometimes it turns out to be somebody who knows the homeowners and knows they are gone. And they know there are certain valuables or something in the house they want. Probably looking for small stuff they can sell or pawn for drug money. Jewelery can be tucked in a pocket and nobody’s the wiser if they happen to be walking down the street or across a parking lot.

Karen, could you leave a light on, on your back deck that wouldn’t bother the neighbors at night. A number of us here have outdoor security lights or some have Dawn/dusk sensors on garage or back deck lights as we have no street lights, which can be a deterrent in themselves, cause it’s too dark to see without flashlights. Joke is, street lights make it easier for thieves to see, LOL. One of the neighbors brought up maybe putting in street lights at one of our POA meetings and said she would even be willing to look into cost etc., But everybody said no, they don’t want them, but thanked her for the offer. We like our country atmosphere.

Shirl, sorry you are dealing with so much weather related issues. That’s one thing we haven’t had much of an issues with and that’s high humidity. We have clouded from some high level smoke and clouds for now and temp is 82°, but the humidity is only 55% and a nice breeze. Very comfortable. If the sun does come back out on the sky is clear, it will heat up late this afternoon for a little while but we shall see

Porch painting is done and I have it blocked off now for a couple of days so it can dry. All that’s left is the upper deck. Has been nice being out there doing all this pabting in the cool of morning, with a nice breeze and birds chirping.

It is noon and I am still in bed. I couldn't get to sleep until around 3am but was restless. Woke up at 4 and couldn't get back to sleep until after 5am. Then woke up at 9:30 and have been awake since then, but very tired. Won't get much done today other than a nap probably.

Supposed to get to 116* today. I think I will keep the AC set higher in the living room (altho in the heat of the day it seems to not get below 90* in there anyways) and stay in the bedroom where it is much cooler. I can do some cleaning in here too.

I do need to run to WM to pick up a prescription today tho. And will have to buy gas since I am at 1/4 tank now.

***I am going to sell my cell phone that I bought thru Visible. It is an Android 5G and I paid $150 for it. That is the one I couldn't switch over to Total by Verizon. If anyone is interested in going with Visible and needs a new phone, I will give you a really good deal on it. It hasn't been used or activated yet. PM me for details...

I think I will get up, get dressed and find something to eat. Have a good day and stay cool!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Good afternoon ladies!

Karen, that's scary about your neighbors home being broken into. Chances are the idiot that did this knows everyone in your community are taking precautions and will never return. Things like that are so senseless. Shirl, I wish your humidity would break. Yesterday, our weather guy on TV said our dew point was so high, it was off the charts. The highest level on their chart was 75 and our dew point was 80. We topped off at 98 this afternoon but it looks like we may have a storm coming and the temperature has dropped 2 degrees. Lyn, it was good seeing you here yesterday! Barbie, I hope you'll start sleeping better soon. I know you're anxious to put your home back on the market.

I have yet to make the macaroni salad we're taking to the clubhouse tomorrow for the celebration here, but I'll do that soon. We have enough leftovers for this evenings dinner and then we'll start over with something new. Let's hope this heat wave breaks soon.

Lyn, I'm so sorry about your son. Hugs.

Irmi, I understand, kind of, those of you who live in Florida, but I'll take the temps over 100 without that humidity. When they give our feels like temp in the summer it's almost always the same as the temp - in the sun. But the shade makes a big difference. And when the sun starts down, it's great. Sage early in the morning. But that's just me. I take south Texas with not as dry temps in the winter. And I'll suffer this year the Midwest humidity in August and September. Irmi, I did a grocery pickup early today. I planned to make Cole slaw if I decide to go to tomorrow's or luck here. Unfortunately I was home before I realized one of the main ingredients to my recipe was left off the order. I guess I'll not go. Lol

Sure, I agree about no lights. I hate places lit up like crazy and they wonder why they can't see the stars at night, etc.

As to temps, I'm fine with it 80 in here during the day, but I turn my AC down to 74 for sleeping. When our nights cool off enough, I open windows and don't need the AC. I'll sometimes get up during the night, check the outside temp to see if I can open up, then back to bed. We just got 100 and will stay here and a bit above until after 6 most likely. Then it'll be about 70 when Ty and I walk in the morning.

Karen, it's never fun to have a break in near. But better near than yours. I say this because it took me a long time to get over a break in at my mom's condo when I was staying there when moving between states. It's not a comfortable feeling. It helped to know that her place was not the target but another condo with a gun rack was. They had extra time and decided to hit Mom's place.

Only 80 here, but really, really humid. Being close to Lake Erie makes it a bit cooler, but does not help other things. Quickly cleaned out a couple of basement storage areas when I got here and before i put my slides out. Mostly, i just organized things and tied up some loose things so they are easier to get at and take up less space. Have a couple of things I need to put out with free signs.

Went online and switched last three nights I am here from electric only to full-hookup. As I get older, I really like the convenience of the new Ohio full-hookup sites--wider site pavement, paved patio, and paved utility area.

AC is going and I am going to run outside to dump trash and put free signs on two things I want to get rid of. Hate to just toss them--much better if someone can use them. Then it will be lazy TV and reading this evening!!!

Just a quick note about the beautiful moon. Tonight's the actual full moon and it's our first super moon of the year. It's been gorgeous for the last couple nights, I'm going tonight is, too.

Good afternoon all. Was kind of a busy morning. I took my neighbor to Urgent Care for her swollen knee she could hardly walk on. Her husband had some leg procedure on Thursday and her daughter had to go clean the cabin they were staying at for a couple of days so she reluctantly asked me for a ride. She is the one whose house was broken into. I took her and we were only there a couple of hours and it went fairly fast. The urgent care is downstairs from my medical provider so at least I was familiar with where to go.

There is a big junky lot behind her house where they do something with metals and old trailers, a few semi trailers etc, I dont even know what they really do there. There is chain link fence with privacy slats in it. I dont see it because there is about a 10 ft brick wall that obscures my view. They were gone for a day or two and so no car in the driveway. Who knows who it was but it shook them up for sure. I know I have a Porta Potty storage lot behind me but I sure dont mind. They supply them for fairs, construction, etc AND they steam clean them all at the other end before they park them. They are super clean over there. I talked to the owner one day, when he was spraying the fence line for weeds. He was asking if the boys that work for him were too noisy in the morning and if I thought they were misbehaving to let him know. OMG they are the nicest young men and NO they arent too noisy. They start about 4:30 am loading up their deliveries and are back in the afternoon rearranging, loading up more, or parking more. I dont mind them at all.

I have 2 Motion lights on my back deck and a camera, I have 1 motion light on my front deck and a camera. Where I dont have light is in my carport and shed area. That is changing on Wednesday. I ordered a couple more cameras and a motion floodlight for the carport. I thought the motion light with the alarm might be a bit much LOL Neighbors have a big motion light in their back yard and one on their front porch but they broke in on the carport side, no light. Even used their step ladder that was in the carport. They are also getting some cameras. The only thing the cameras will do for me is give some warning so I can call 911. Because even if they were to catch them usually just get a citation (like they are going to pay that).

This super moon is the first of 4 coming this year. July’s full moon is known as the “Buck Moon.” The name stems from the fact that this is the time when deer antlers start regrowing after being shed in the spring.(little fun fact I did not know)
The moons coming
August 1: Sturgeon moon
August 30: Blue moon (aptly named when there are 2 in one month)
September 29: Harvest moon

My neighbor is into moons LOL I did find it interesting even tho chances of me seeing one at night are pretty darn slim to none.

Lyn, sorry about your son. I know that has to be heartbreaking.

I set my alarm for 7 this morning and actually got up! Must not have been awake because I guess I didn't put the coffee travel mug in the right position so had coffee brew all over the counter! Can't see how I could have been that far off, but thank goodness I no longer keep my cookbooks near the coffeemaker! Cleaned out the back of the car and went to Walmart for groceries. Wasn't the best day for that! Guess we aren't reaching 90 today.

Went back to look at Sandi's posts about her Hells Canyon experience and also found Liz's blog about her visit there. I meant to mention on here that a neighbor told me the dog park here is gravel! Isn't that unusual?

Not sure if any of you would be interested and Barbie is already writing her autobiography, but BFF's daughter gave her a year of Storyworth (https://welcome.storyworth.com/). They give you a weekly question to answer, you can add photos and they print a book for you. Diane couldn't wait a year and has already had a book printed and it is very nicely done. Just thought I'd toss it out there. Steven did a handwritten 365 day book and then I used the questions in it.

Well, today was kind of a bust. I did head out and got gas and then on to WM. I had ordered a good sized folding insulated cooler the other day on Amazon and was excited to try it out. However, I forgot to take it with me! I got a few groceries and things I needed and headed home quickly. That is when I realized I forgot to pick up my meds! Darn! I really didn't feel like going back for them today so will go back in the morning.

Meanwhile, at 3:30pm I fell asleep on my bed. Didn't wake up until 7:30! Guess I made up for the hours I missed last night! Will get to bed early tonight with a little help from a sleepy pill to make sure I fall asleep sound.

There are some fireworks going off nearby tonight. Romeow could care less. Sophie is mildly concerned (tail swishing a bit) but not freaked out, which is good. Will be worse tomorrow night because they will be closer.

As far as dewpoints go, here is a chart about the comfort levels...

Image

The closer the dewpoint is to the actual temperature, the higher the humidity levels.

Today "only" got to 112* and the humidity was at 12%, so very dry!

As far as street lights, we have small lights on a post at the end of our driveways (every other house). Mine burned out the other night and that is fine with me! Not even gonna report it to maintenance.

Nothing on TV tonight and just had dinner, so will get ready for bed soon (9pm). Hopefully, I can start refreshed and rested tomorrow and get back with my cleaning program.

WM was out of the dowel rods I need so when I go back there tomorrow for my meds, I will stop at Home Depot to get some.

Anita, I have seen several sites for doing autobiographies on line and most of them are the question/answer type. I really just want to write my story like a book. Those are great for getting ideas of what to write about tho. The one I use is "Write My Memoirs" and is very user friendly. They offer questions but you don't have to use them in your story. They will also print out a book once you are done, for a reasonable price and can include photos as well. I need to get back to writing on that too, soon! Thanks for the reminder!

The fireworks are ramping up now and getting louder and more frequent. Sophie is sitting by the window and her ears are back and looks a little unnerved but still not freaked out.

Have a good night!

Edit: I turned around and looked out the window behind me and saw gorgeous fireworks over the houses across the street! They were coming from the casino! I forgot that they do theirs the day before the 4th. Watched them until they were done! Very nice! Then notice an orange glow just beyond the house tops and realized it was the moon coming up! So went outside to watch that rise a bit. Glad I took a peek out my window! Still hearing a few booms from the locals around here.

Woke up on the wrong side of the bed!!!! I go to bed really late if fact some of you are getting up when I go to sleep at 4:50 I heard mom saying help me... she is in the doorway of my room I ask what she needs and she is cold wants the window closed in her bedroom... It was pretty windy but I was not happy to be woke up to close a stupid window... and then when I knew that she hadn't even tried to use another blanket one right by her chair it really made me even more irritated... nope not a happy camper at all
she also hit the pain pills a bit heavy they are the fake Tylenol so not like a controlled substance but still she is suppose to not take them more than every 6 hours 4 with in a 12 hour period I've asked her to write them down she does it about every twice in awhile she wrote one at midnight one at 6 which is ok but what about the two others... I have the bottle in one spot when she gets a pill out she moves it and doesn't put it back I always know when she has gotten one :o really scientific  but at the moment it works
it's just been a day didn't do much more than the norm although I did finish my great grandson's hat.. not as happy with it as I had hoped I put the button's too far apart but not sure what else I could have done... any way it's done going to try making a scarf not like the one I made for his sister hopefully this one will be faster...

I decided to go to Sam's this morning. Today was not the day to go to Sam's. They had pallets parked here and there causing traffic jams all over the store. There were so many people checking out when I got there you couldn't get by that area. I use to alway get a slice of pizza when I would go to Sam's until they put in computers where you had to order and pay. I tried using one and never could get it to work so quit getting pizza. Today they had removed the computers and you could order at the counter. Yay, I got my pizza. Gas has gone down a little, it's $2.86.

I had to go see if I could see the moon. Last night I could see it out the back door. It's a little higher tonight so I had to walk out on the porch.

I have motion activated solar lights all around Sugar's yard so I can see what she is doing at night. I have them on the carport so I can see if I go out at night.

I have been fighting with my coffee maker and finally decided it's the box of Walmart brand pods. I'm not buying any more of those.

It only got up to 98 today. Tonight on the weather they said that every day in June except 2 were a record highs. I drove through a few showers while I was out but it didn't rain at home.

The moon is gorgeous! I can see it out my window.
Only 100° today, good break from yesterday's 113°!
Happy 4 th everyone, it is after midnight as I fell asleep watching tv and son woke me.
