Beth, can't a bad headache be a symptom of a stroke?? At least check your blood pressure. Anyone out there know for sure how you tell a bad headache from a stroke? (I do know that not all strokes cause obvious physical symptoms.)

I felt pretty good this morning after my exhausting day yesterday. It was not just the heat, the humidity was very high yesterday as well, and even the two girls were dripping. I need to be more careful about doing too much in such high temps and humidity, but at least I was drinking ice water all day. I take a bottle of water and freeze it, then drink it and add water to it all day while it keeps a big ice cube in it. Anyway, this morning, I knew we had only a two-hour drive to the condo in Sandusky, so I told the girls they could sleep in, which they did until 11 am, and I also slept in.

Girls took all their stuff, but there was some stuff in the refrigerator I knew I would not eat. Took the hot dogs and hamburgers and buns to condo, and we ate them for dinner when parents showed up. However, I did three loads of laundry at the condo--some of my clothes and sheets, towels, and one comforter. Then I barely got set up before dark, and ended up having to hang some things that were still damp, fold everything, and iron some of my shorts to put creases in the cuffs. Plus, I had to damp mop floor, and clean out half-bottles of stuff left in the refrigerator. The result is I am really tired again. I think I have lost some weight, which is good and bad, but I am trying to drink more water because I think I am still dehydrated, which is where the weight loss is.

This is a tight campground, so instead of getting out and in tomorrow, I think I am going to get my son to come pick me up. Sunday, they are going to a baseball game in Akron, and I am just going to hang around here, then move to Maumee Bay SP on Monday. It is a much newer and nicer campground, with more space between sites and sites that are easier to get into. This place could give you claustrophobia because sites are old and small, with roads too narrow, especially with a lot of pickup trucks parked along it. I just don't want to have to fight it.

perhaps they the dog I promptly forgot the name of are like other dogs with a bad rep a lot of times it has to do with how they are trained or treated... when we lived in SLC and our kids were young... my youngest brought home a puppy that "followed her home" just a little thing she begged and begged to keep it...after not finding the owner we let her keep Pepper and as Pepper grew we realized that she was a lotta dog turned out part German Shepard and part pit bull one night my son was out walking both dogs and a group of kids came up and asked if she was a pit was told yes they took off and dd would walk her and we didn't worry quite as much (not the best of neighborhoods) the thing is Pepper would lick you to death before she would bite ... no idea what she would do though if she sensed a problem...

The surprised/scared face you added after the words "pit bull" was. . . interesting. The sweet temperament that you describe of your kind Pepper is not atypical of many/most "pit bulls". I'll bet your Pepper was a love.

I have owned - exclusively (meaning I have owned no other breed) - UKC registered purebred American Pit Bull Terriers and AKC registered purebred Staffordshire Bull Terriers (a breed closely related to the APBT, sometimes it is difficult to tell the difference between the two) for more than forty (40) years.

I bred and showed SBT's for about twenty years, showing several dogs of my own breeding to their Championships, myself or my then 9-year-old daughter at the end of the show lead. The day my physically tiny 9-year-old daughter showed my square and stout California Girl's Blaze O' Glory (at home he was just Little Blaze Boy) to a Group 4 was a hoot, and made for a truly memorable day.

I realize that most reading this will have no idea of what a "Group 4" signifies in the dog show world - but I'll wager Tina does.

No professional handler was ever involved in the showing of any of my dogs.

My Big Joe, that I often speak of on here, is an AKC registered purebred Champion Staffordshire Bull Terrier (Joe came to me as a finished Champion dog, retired. I never showed my sweet Joe). It makes me sad to see my Joe now getting on in years.

Several Forum members met my wonderful Joe at the Eagle Lake GTG some years back.

All dog breeds have the good and the bad, the bitter and the sweet, and not every breed of dog is suited to every individual person. The APBT and the SBT are no different in this respect than any other breed of dog.

For myself, these two breeds - above all - are, and always will be, the dogs for me. I don't know if I have ever told the story on here (and now is not the time) but I will never forget the long-ago time when my American Pit Bull Terrier likely saved my life.

She has been gone from me now for more than thirty-five years - but I can still - and will always - see her sweet face in my mind, and feel her kind warmth in my heart.

I will never forget her.

Anne I know some dogs have a bad reputation but some dogs unfortunately have been bred so indiscriminately they are dangerous. As someone who grew up absolutely terrified of dogs (size was no exception) I have come a long way. My Mother's cousin died of rabies when I was little so she taught us to be afraid of dogs, cats etc. by telling us if we touched them we would have to get 21 shots in our stomach. It made for difficult times, missed parties because they owned dogs, walking to school and loose dogs all over. It wasn't until I got married I knew I had to conquer the fear. I admit though after all this time I still have some hesitancy. The Cane Corso traveling with Emma is well trained and is also showing in obedience but here is no way the woman who owns him could control him if he perceived a threat to her.

We had a break in the heat late yesterday afternoon and on the other side of town people had damage from hail that was almost baseball size! Lots of wind and very little rain though.

You got me beat, Girl, and I was on top of it (watching the thermometer ) all day!! (Velda is about 45 miles south of me).

Here it topped out at "only" 104, with the humidity hovering at about 44% (humidity also a bit lower than originally reported).

Currently, at 10:00 a.m. (Saturday, July 1), temps are at about 92°, and climbing.

The race is on for "hottest temp of the day"!!

Anne, it topped out at 105° here at 2:20 pm today and now at 3:55 pm we’re down to 104°. Still doesn’t come close to Sept. 5 last year when we hit 114° here at my house. Here’s my photo of that record-setting day. The pups and I went out early today for a nice long walk, but have been inside since we returned.

Sandi we also had record heat last year. Our high was 117, absolutely unheard of here and most everywhere else. That was a really bad heat wave. Today it is 93 right now at 4:20 I dont think I have horse in this race with Anne and Velda or even you.

Currently 90 here at 8:30 a.m. (July 2), and heading up. Today's prediction on Weather.com was adjusted upward to 110.

No where near 114 or 117! Holy smokes! I don't remember what it was here this time last year - in the hundreds, probably, but I don't think it got to 114 or 117.

LOL. I'm ready for Autumn. Already.

Can't beat the rest of you in this race--only high of 79 here, though humidity is very high because of earlier rain.

One breed of dog I really dislike are dachshunds, mainly because of the two my aunt across the street had and the four her sister-in-law had in Illinois. ALL of them would bite when they could, and they constantly barked. And the sister-in-law west of Chicago also had no kids, but she did have a German shepherd with her nasty dachshunds, and if you moved quickly, he would jump up and show his teeth while growling. It was not a fun place to visit, but my cousin and I were sent via train there when we were 12 and 11 to visit her. I was the older one, and I think I was supposed to be the chaperone or something because she was not even my aunt, but after two weeks with the dogs, I think we were both ready to go home!!! Funny how your experiences can affect your opinions of breeds, in any case.

Have you watched Critter Fixers on TV? One of the vets is afraid of chickens because he was pecked by one as a child.

Judy, I agree on Doxies! Noisy, unpredictable, bitey, little snots, every single one I've met. A friend, whose GSD was my GSDs mother, also got a mini Doxie. Her husband despised that little ankle biter. The last straw was when he was standing talking to someone and the mini Doxie, walked up, squatted and on purpose peed on his feet. I had never seen that man mad at anyone, still haven't, but he put his foot down and the Doxie left the household. German Shepards, are wonderful , if raised right.very intelligent, loyal, loving. If I were to get another dog, it wold be a GSD.

I have been very Leary of Cane Corso’s ever since that woman was killed by two of them in San Francisco. We have one in my neighborhood and I am quite cautious when I see it. I agree tho, that depends on the owner and early training, how any breed will turn out.
I wanted to mention regarding seeing dogs that have passed, I believe all those stories. The brain i still a wonderfull organ that we have mystery’s about.
We went down to the desert to visit my son and his wife, He looks so ill. It is very sad..
