Damp Tuesday Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Damp Tuesday Morning

Postby Colliemom » Tue Jun 27, 2023 6:56 am

Good Morning everybody. Smokey and here at the 45th. Temp is 60°. Air smells heavy of burned, charred wood. Remnants of rain is supposed to clear out this afternoon. After two months of barely any rain extreme fire danger etc., Mother Nature has blessed us with much needed rainfall. It varies from area to area, but I think here where I am, we got our whole summers total in two days. My neighbors rain gauge was reading 7 1/4 inches as of last night :o we had a storm come through here late Sunday afternoon that dropped buckets of rain. My yard was turning into a lake in some places.Once it quit, the ground soaked it up like a sponge. Was followed later in the evening by another deluge. Neighbors gauge showed 4 inches between the two. Lady I know across the highway where I walk, said hers was same. Fortunately we missed the hail a couple miles south and north. We had rain showers late yesterday afternoon and i to to the evening, so it was good. Temps are to be in mid 70’s this week and weekend.

I continued my do nothing time trough Sunday, but got a bit busier yesterday. Trip to credit union and store in the morning , traced pattern on girl’s outfit and have it 3/4 finished. Visited with neighbor for a short while. But today I want to clean house this morning and get that done. Then will go back to craft painting. Have two appts. Tomorrow, one for MOHS in Petoskey which is about 50 miles away. Want to hit Hobby Lobby while I am over there too. So will be gone most of the day. Energizer Bunny batteries are recharged,

Yay Shirl, your lamp is fixed. Now what do we do for fun Anybody else have a problem we can try to solve  I8m sure you are happy to have it working again. And you got precious time with your friend too.

“I am having resurrected meatloaf and fresh green beans for dinner and a small salad for lunch.” Karen, I laughed when I read about your mishap. Glad you were able to salvage it. But I’m sure it wasn’t funny at the time. I think we have all got our stories of oven mishaps.

Barbie, I too hope you get your place sold this fall too. Tine to get out of the heat. Be time to list before you know it. Beth, hope you can stay cool too.

Guess I had better get washed up dressed and get started. Sooner I get going, sooner I’ll be done. Have a nice day and stay safe in the smokey areas, storm areas etc.

Morning Sue and All, 74°cloudy and extremely humid. I did so want to fix the lamp myself but could not get pass the last elbow. Brother Pete bypasses the elbow completely and worked with the part below the sock. I couldn’t see what he was doing and didn’t think he would appreciate my chin on his shoulder. Lol. I don’t feel too bad, he is an engineer. Guess I better stick to dirt. But what fun is that. Lol Karen, did you get that meatloaf off the floor within 10 minutes.? I do read all posts but short term memory is a pita. Be safe

Good morning Sue and Shirl. It is cloudy here right now but it is early. Got up at 5 but havent done much yet. Took the dog out, fed the dog, got the first cup of java, and now just sitting and sipping. 83/54 today. Like the rest of the west we are warming up will be in the low 90's starting on Thursday for at least a week and sunny. Contemplating what will be on my agenda today. I have a list ha ha but I know I wont be outside later. Will go throw some fertilizer and bone meal on the tomatoes and squash. Will probably have to water twice in the next few days. My timer only has 1 program available but I can always set it to do a manual watering for as many minutes as I think is needed.

Meatloaf saga: I normally wouldnt salvage anything that falls on my floor BUT I had just washed the dang floor so decided the bigger part of the meatloaf would be okay and apparently it is cause I didnt die LOL Will have it again tonight with the leftover green beans and then freeze the rest. I will be way more cautious with that dang pan next time, ya know lesson learned. Use two hands!!!! I bought some meat at the store the other day when it was on sale so need get the rest divided and Food Savered and into the freezer. I bought a chuck roast so need to divide that up. I usually do that then can just throw it in the crockpot and I have dinner for a couple of days. I usually dont eat anything more often than every 2-3 days at most. Think I will fire up the grill tomorrow, make Terriyaki chicken kabobs.

Breakfast will be an English muffin and sliced avocado, one of my favorite breakfasts. Avocados are so good for you, with all the right fats and nutrients (helps lower cholesterol too) so I try to eat one several times a week. Okay enough blabbering time to get moving.

Good morning to all. For once all good news to report. Bill's new computer is finally set up to his liking and he has all his old favorite games installed. AND the BEST of that, he can see well enough to play them! And best news about him, He can finally read his e-reader Nook again. We had to make the letters bigger - lots bigger! but he can now read when he says I'm going to read my book - instead of going right to sleep.
My blood pressure has come back down to normal. Was up over 188/86 - I didn't know that until the testing when the nurse asked me if I had high blood pressure??? I'm thinking just too much stress in to short of a time. Last week was a mess. He wasn't having good days, the mess with having to change all our bank accounts and every bill etc associated with them was really stressful. And then two days of heart doctor's doing testing for both of us. And today we go to the bank to make sure all the paper work is signed correctly - parts of paperwork sent to us need filling in and I can't write because of shaking hands and he can't read the small type to know how to fill it out. Oh MY - such fun. So I"ll be pleading the "well we're old and need help" besides they are there to help. Still have to deal with a couple of auto payments, but can't do it until new checks arrive - they insist on voided ones before changing everything. Also waiting on new credit cards.
Weather here is finally going to go into regular summer. Today in high 90's but by weekend 110 for a couple of days.
I spent the whole weekend just relaxing and doing thing I enjoyed. Guess it helped.
Shirl - so glad lamp is fixed, looks great no wonder you wanted it fixed. One of our ceiling fans quit working so will have to call son to see if he can install a new one, or get a hold of a handyman to do it. Don't want Bill up on a high ladder.
Caught Bill outside starting the Jeep. Asked him what he was doing, he told me he thinks he can drive. DO NOT THINK SO! I guess he thought I was going to give him my feelings about that - he was just starting it because it is not being used and he is checking the battery.
Have a great day every one.

Hey, Shirl, don't just stick with dirt. Try another lamp, or something else.

The only way I, personally, seem to be able to learn anything is when I try to do something and then fail. That way I find out what works, and what doesn't.

For example, yesterday I spent five hours (!) working on a new jewelry piece for my Etsy shop. I intended it to be a semi-complicated wire wrap on a large and lovely turquoise magnesite stone. After four hours the stone was pretty well wrapped, my hands were definitely starting to hurt, but I kept at it, hoping it would come together.

At five hours I gave it a good, close look - and then took my wire cutters and cut all of the wire away from the stone. The wire, of course, went into the trash (actually, my copper wire recycle plastic coffee can) and the stone (none the worse for wear) went back into my stock of stones, ready for wrapping on some other day.

I have been making hand-made jewelry for at least 12 years. I guesstimate that I have made two or three hundred jewelry pieces in those years.

And this still happens from time to time.

Oh well! When I am making jewelry I am totally focused and concentrating on the task at hand, the worries of the world go right out of my head.

So the way I look at it is that a jewelry fail is still a win!

Anne, I have same issue sometimes with my wood projects. Sometimes I make a wrong cut, so out comes the wood filler, or the paint I decided to use doesn’t look good, so out comes the sandpaper and primer. Big wood projects like this planter box are, many times, figure it out as I go along.

Image

In this one’s case, I took it apart and redid it at least once. Being it was a prototype, there are three things I learned, that will change if I do another one, which I might later. One is, make it a little longer and maybe not so deep. Another is make the back where the raccoon is a bit shorter and the 3rd is to skip the wire/garden cloth bottom and go with a full wood bottom with large holes in it. The garden cloth is holding water in, had to put holes in the stuff to let it drain. Was an idea I got off of YouTube. So nothing is ever perfect the first time.

At the end of flower season, I’m going to take the dirt out of this one and rip out that bottom and put a full wood bottom in there with the large holes for next year. My neighbor was looking at this one, and I know she would love to have a me make one. The friend who lives with her has MS and it’s hard for her to get down close to the ground. So they have a raised garden bed, They have their potted flowers, sitting on top of a couple, big fake barrel planters that they turned upside down, and set the smaller ones on top so she can reach them.

I had a problem that my son solved. The light On My RV fan over the stove wound not work. Replaced the bulb and it wound still not work. Bulb was one of those with bare wires. Anyway son looked at it last week and said socket was greasy. Cleaned it up and light works now!!! Better than having to rewire it which I thought had to happen.

Rainy and wet here is northeastern Ohio but not seven inches! Am picking two granddaughters up to take them on camping trip to Columbus Zoo and The Wild’s. Wilds is series of large fields where big animals are kept.

I've been trying to fix my RV door, in particular the screen door portion and so far been unsuccessful. A couple people were sure they could do it. No success there either. I have a few more ideas. But the only time of day right now is early morning and it's getting hot earlier and earlier and getting a walk in with Ty takes priority. After I try my last couple ideas, I may have to pay, but the couple places I talked to on the phone automatically suggested replacing the entire door. I'd be out over $1000 with that choice. I'll remove the screen portion of the door before that'll happen. (I was emailing about this with Shirl last night and she had good ideas then finally asked what Sparkle would do. I know the screen door portion would already be gone lolol)

Sue, I love your projects and can picture every change you mentioned as possible for doing this one again.

Judy, I could use your son checking my bathroom ceiling fixture. Only one side lights. I used to be able to tap, sometimes hard and several times, to get the 2nd side lighting but I'm guessing it's been over a year since that worked lol. The friend that looked at it told me to buy a new light fixture. I still think it's a loose connection and so it hasn't gotten fixed.

Anne, I love that you put your all into it. I'm sorry this piece didn't work out but the next is already dancing in your head.

My freezer is full. I need to start eating more from it before I have to move everything back into the RV fridge/freezer. Especially since I still have more meats to cook in the pressure cooker and freeze as more meals. I have a month.

Carol, excellent news. It's time, right?

Karen, I had something I wanted to say to you but my brain is not working right now. It'll come to me, maybe, later. Lol

I would like to have 7 inches of rain for a change but none in the forecast. It seems like we either have storms or droughts. It's like walking into an oven when I go outside. I heard an engine so went on the porch to see what it was. My neighbor is mowing the lot where he keeps his mule. He has a dust storm going. I think I would have waited until later to mow. I mowed a little yesterday and it was almost dark. The only grass that is really growing is on the hill below the rose bed. It is probably getting watered when I water the roses.

All the inside cats are sleeping in the air conditioning again except for Frosty, the great white hunter. I don't know what he is hunting for but I see him all over in the pastures.

Beth, what's wrong with your screen door? I put Lexan panels on mine so I could leave my door open so I could see what Sugar was doing and not heat or cool the outdoors. Lexan isn't as heavy as plexiglass and I was able to cut it with a box cutter. I used heavy duty velcro to attach it to the screen door.

I had an avocado that was ripe so cut it and filled it with seafood salad I got at the grocery store. I'm not crazy about the fake crab meat but it was ok.

It's going to be a long week if I have to stay inside because of the heat.

Sorry Beth, I still don’t understand the screen door problem. Do the screws fall out of latch that attaches to the floor?

The RV screen door is attached (and part of) the main door. The bottom attachment has always needed to be tightened regularly. The 3 screws to it are now all stripped and causing the screen door to bend away. Using larger screws caused a worse problems with the holes. The doors are made so cheaply that fixes that would work in walls don't work. YouTube suggestions don't work. It's kind of like they know if this goes bad, you have to buy a new door. Right now I have to very carefully open the door and screen door together and probably caused more damage separating them to take a picture, but I put the screws back and tape over them until I have a better solution and very carefully open and shut the door. At this point I've had to have the bracket back into the correct position or the whole door hands incorrectly, so getting the bracket and screws right had to be perfect.

Taking the screen door off is close to the top of my list now.

My rv was an older model. That set up is foreign to me. Is there a welder nearby that could look at the problem? Thinking maybe some kinda of plate to reinforce the weak spot

Beth, instead of screws could you use bolts that go thru the door?

Martha, it has been deemed they would get in the way, but haven't been entirely ruled out.

Shirl, excellent idea. There's one about 1/2 an hour away. I'll call tomorrow and ask if they think they can help.

As long as I am running my mouth. Beth Han electrician look at the bathroom light. The thought of a loose hit wire in your ceiling scares me. Be safe. Lol
