June 1st, Another hot one!

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

June 1st, Another hot one!

Postby Colliemom » Thu Jun 01, 2023 7:06 am

Good Morning. Sun is up and temp will be following it. Right now it’s 58°. Have my patio door open to let the cool morning air in. Supposed to be around 88 today. Gaylord broke a double record yesterday. 93° broke the record high of 87° set back in 2010 and the all time maximum high temperature for the month of May, of 92° set back in 2011. There was a line of storms and rain that formed in late afternoon, after I posted yesterday. We didn’t get anything here, but some areas of the county had heavy rain and even hail. But we did get the much cooler air associated with it, dropping the temp from 90 at 3:30 to 80 by 4:00 and then I to mid 70’s. Boy, that felt good.

I’m enjoying reading Anne and Karen’s posts regarding their watering systems. Shirl and I have the same system to a point. Whereas she fills jugs and carries them to her balcony garden, I fill pails and my watering can and haul it out to the sub entrance flowerbed with my tractor. Here at the house, I water my one long side of house flowerbed with my hose hooked up in back of house. Then water the 5 planter boxes in front with the hose out there, plus the flowerbed at the flagpole, which is about 40 feet out front of the house. Doesn’t take long.

Need to run to town this morning. Eye drops I need for Molly and were on order at vets, came in late yesterday, plus ned a few things from the store. Also drop off recycles. Debating if I want to take a ride over to area where the Amish are and stock up on some meats. About an hour SE from here.

So that’s my excitement for the day at the moment.

Morning Sue and All, 67°and sunny. Forgot rabbitts until I read Sue’s post, that’s dangerous.lol
I’ve learned consistent water is the secret to beautiful plants. Containers need overflow holes if hooked up to drip in case of rain. I can’t have dirty water draining on my neighbor below. Carrying water is ok it gets me out of the recliner. Oldest great granddaughter just had her 16tg birthday, seems only yesterday she was trying to eat a bug off the floor. Have a hair appointment and then the farmers market for Rosemary Olive focaccia bread and fresh mushrooms. I will try and not look at any other vendors. Lol A burger with sautéed mushrooms , onions and slaw for dinner.
Be safe

Good morning, sun is shining and it is a cool 44 outside. We will heat up to 73 today. I love this weather, it is warm and refreshing. Does get warm in the afternoon if I am out working in the yard in the sun. I need to spray my weeds today, finish cleaning out the circle out front so I can plant my Peony. Add a few more drip emitters for the potted plants, I am waiting for Amazon to send the 1/2 gph emitters as nobody in this town has any LOL I have a timer on my drip system but when it is hotter I will adjunct it with hand watering with the hose. I could water longer on the timer but I dont want to drown the flower pots so this works fine.

Barbi very excited you got your kitty. It might take a little time for them to become acquainted but you are wise to protect her for now since her surgery. I am sure you will fatten her up and feed a good quality food. Sheila I am always up for a new recipe. I like experimenting for sure. I like my new Air Fryer very much. I like the dual baskets and being able to control each one of them separately for time and temp. I fixed fish and roasted veggies last night, both came out perfect. I didnt want the ones with the trays, I like this idea for me much better. Sue glad you are getting the hotter weather and we are getting the cooler weather ha ha

Edited to add I SAID RABBITS last night at around 2am when I got up to potty

Good morning to all - remembered Rabbits only because I put a post it on my bathroom mirror to remind me. Hope it works. Our weather here has been below normal for a couple of weeks now and that will continue for another week. Below normal in Vegas is 95 - 99 during the day. By June we are usually in the low 100's. Still cooling down at night so I will continue to walk early in the mornings. (when I feel like it) Bill had a good day yesterday, cooked a batch of crepes - there goes my trying to lose a few pounds. However today is a bad one, got up went right back to bed. It is wearing on both of us. He says he feels useless now. Not good. I think his taste is changing too - so many things he used to like don't taste good to him now. Has any one tried any of the "hearing aids" as advertised on TV? We are both doing a lot of what did you say? Huh? now.
Going to be a long summer. Sorry - for the downer.
Went out to walk yesterday morning in the community. Much hotter then in the wetlands, and less shade. Did meet a new neighbor though. And another neighbor who just spent $4000 on his new puppy!!! Did more visiting than walking.
Worked a little bit on a small stained glass sun catcher this morning.
Stay cool and safe if traveling.

Good morning gals!

Romeow is feeling sad and dejected. :( He is now keeping his distance from the kitty.

Kitty is now out and about exploring the house. She is so sweet and affectionate. Has a soft purr, but so far no meow. Sometimes feral moms will teach there kittens not to meow so they don't attract predators. No one knows her background tho. She has a perfect line down her chin to her throat with black on one side and orange on the other side. She has very interesting markings! She will be gorgeous once she fills out and fluffs up!

I might remove her bed/box. She seems to want to sleep next to it now instead of inside it. I can make her a comfy bed with no cover. Just have to go with the flow with her and Romeow for awhile. I think once she gets familiar with her surroundings and with me, she will relax more and hopefully be more willing to let Romeow in her space. Will let her decide on that.

If I ever have a garden space somewhere, I want to plant small gourds. Of course, a few flowers too. Maybe a tomato plant or two but I would rather just buy veggies as needed which isn't very often (I know, I need to eat more veggies!).

Wind has died down considerably! Yay! My eyes still feel irritated and gritty this morning from yesterdays dust storm. Maybe I can get that car cover fastened down better now.

I did remember to say "Rabbits" at midnight!! Have a good day!

Carol, you snuck in ahead of me! I hope Bill starts having more good days than bad. If he can find something fun to do on his good days, maybe that will get him thru the bad days. The taste thing is common with those who have had Covid. Linda (Bikerchic) had a hard time finding food she could eat after hers. Most of it tasted bad and made her sick to even smell it. I know this must be so stressful for both of you. Glad you are able to get out for your walks yet and meeting new neighbors. Our weather has been cooler than normal for this time of year as well which is nice! Altho it has been much windier than normal too. The heat will come tho.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Good morning all. I did remember to say rabbits. I can't believe that I have been back in Alberta for a month now. I have been enjoying the time with family and friends. I have been doing some yard work and sprucing up the outside with flowerpots and landscape lighting. The weather has been good overall, today being the exception, cold and blustery. It is supposed to improve tomorrow though. Today will be an inside day, getting rid of all the dust bunnies, etc.
Haven't been camping yet here but will get out later this month. I do need to go through the motorhome and purge a lot of things, some of which haven't been used in years. It is amazing how I accumulate things.
It's lunch time now, so need to go. Take care all.

Good afternoon ladies!

Sue, it seems so strange for you to be getting the hot weather already. Hopefully you'll get a cool down. Shirl, I love farmer's markets. There is one here every Saturday but for some reason haven't gone the past couple weeks. Karen, I hope you'll post a picture of some of the things you've been doing outside. Between staining your deck and working in the yard, it's got to look really nice. Carol, I feel so badly for you & Bill and hope that you both get your stamina back. Barbie, I hope Romeow gets used to your new cat and that they'll both get along. Lyn, it sounds like you're finally healing from your fall. Enjoy the games on TV. Brenda, I think about you often, but considering all the things we've done together, that's easy to do.

The weather here in central FL is warm and usually in the mid to high 80's I had a follow up appointment this morning with my doctor to go over the results of my last lab work. Almost all the numbers were where they should be and I even lost 5 pounds. He wants me to start taking a multi-vitamin supplement, which is fine by me. Our outside patio work is done and the furniture we ordered is in place. It's nice being able to sit out there and enjoy the weather. Oh, and I remembered rabbits!

Here is a photo of kitty's enclosure...
Image

I noticed some fur coming off her when I was petting her, so I found a soft brush and started gently brushing her, which she loved! I was shocked at how much fur was coming off her! This photo is from just a few minutes of gentle brushing! Lots of loose underfur. She has pretty thin fur to begin with so this was a lot coming off! I am sure it is due to being undernourished, having the kittens and being under stress.

Brenda, I desperately need to purge my rig and my casita. How I let things collect I don't know!

Barbie, even if she seemed to have little fur, she obviously wasn't getting brushed to take care of the normal spring/summer shedding. Good thing she likes it.

Slow day here which makes the hours go even slower. Especially when I'd like to be seeing if I can fix my screen door and purge more, etc. I did reorganize my big storage area this week. Right now they show rain for all my days off. Hopefully it won't be all day any of the days because when I come back to work next weekend, I want everything ready except disconnecting hoses, connecting the car, etc for leaving. What I ordered to help with cleaning from the oxidation is at the post office. Hopefully the director picks it up today or tomorrow. Otherwise I'll have to go next Monday and actually if it's warm enough and rains, I could take advantage of the rain working on that, maybe.

It is afternoon here and 88 degrees but humidity is a low for us 39% but the weekend doesn't look good as temps supposed to be in the lower 90's with higher humidity, yuk! Not much going one here I discovered another tick on me yesterday afternoon I had only been out for a short time and was never in the grass. Even though it had just attached I have a sore this morning and I just dabbed a bit of tea tree oil and lavender on ir and the smell is about to overcome me! I think I will stick with just the lavender next time. The last 3 years we have had very few ticks but our luck seems to have run out. I blame all the deer that slept in our back yard when the pears were ripe. The other surprising thing is we usually have more rain this time of year and when it is drier we have less ticks. We haven't had rain for awhile to the point that our grass looks like late summer it is turning brown and the ground cracking open.

Emma is going to be on the road a bit more as last weekend she won first place in an Open B class in Utility ? at a show in Indiana. I guess I should be excited but since we never get to watch her in the ring (we apparently distract her) I can't really work up much enthusiasm. The trainer is over the moon as now she feels Emma can win something called OTCH which is very signification in the world of obedience. I didn't think DH would agree as he does not like her to be gone so much but surprisingly he is all for it.

My van is in the shop as I think the starter is going out so I drove DH's new car to get a coffee and was roasting! I looked down and he had the heat on high for the drivers seat! I asked him if he realized it when I got home and he said it felt good on his back. I told him that I had switched it to A/C. I still can't believe one can have heated or air conditioned seats in a car. I have a sheepskin strip in my van which I love. I much prefer driving my van over the new car.

I didn't think about Rabbits until about 12:30 and I had already been talking to the cats and dog. It's already up to 94 today. I'll have to wait until almost dark to walk. I was at the end of my walk yesterday and ran into my neighbor so we stood on the road and visited. Just standing for a few minutes I got so stiff. I haven't been keeping up with my walks very well. Hope to do better.

Today is the first day of hurricane season and there is already an area off Florida they are watching. It begins again. Hope I don't have to evacuate this summer. I should start taking things off the carport so I don't have to do it all at once. It's too easy to put things down instead of putting them away.

Sue, if I only lived an hour from where the Amish lived I would probably be filling up on cake, cookies and bread. I keep thinking about making a batch of cookies but won't buy the ingredients. My willpower must be stronger at the store than at home. lol

My motorhome needs to be purged too. It's amazing how much stuff can end up in there. There is a marine store I pass almost every time I go to Lafayette. I keep thinking I will stop and get some fiberglass cleaner that they use on boats. My motorhome is fiberglass and people keep recommending fiberglass cleaner for them. It doesn't take long for me to run out of steam when I go to Lafayette. I do a couple of things and I'm ready to come home.

BJ, Emma is like having a talented child. Too bad you can't watch her. Maybe you could get someone to video her performance. I know you don't like chemicals but you could wear flea collars around your ankles to keep the ticks away. lol I'm glad we don't have ticks here. The mosquitoes are bad enough. Air conditioned seats sound good to me. I keep looking at cars and can't make up my mind if I want a new one. Since the year is almost half gone I will have to wait for the 2024's. Another reason to procrastinate.

Yesterday I bought a pound of crawfish tails and fried them for lunch. Now I feel like I have fried food overload. I seldom fry anything in the fryer because it makes such a mess.

I'm charging the golf cart so I can go spray the weeds on the corner between here and highway. I don't know why the parish won't spray it. If the weeds get too tall I can't see if a vehicle is coming.

Around noon today, I packed up my sorted dirty clothes and drove out to go to one of the two laundromats in nearby Frisco. The first one turned out to be in a long string of small business shops, each with a big garage. I don't know how else to describe them, but the business stores its stuff in the big garage and there is a small office next to it. So mobile businesses like carpet cleaning or plumbers use these. However, there was only two parking spots in front of each business, so there was absolutely no place to park a motorhome within maybe 4 blocks. The second one was in an old downtown area, but the problem was the streets in this town have ONLY angle parking, and all spaces were full. I tried some side roads and they also were all angle parking! So, I headed 8 miles away to Breckenridge to a laundromat shown on Google Maps and on my cell phone. Except when I got there, it turned out to be a dry cleaners!!

At this point, I called the first town's visitor center, got an answering machine, and chewed them out. Lady called me back an hour later and said there was a dirt lot for RVs a block off the main street. I asked her if it was labeled as a parking lot, and she did not know. I told her that if she wanted people who drove RVs to stop and shop that the town needed signs on the main street directing people to this lot! I also suggested that I had hoped I could park not too far from the laundromat and wander through some of the shops while i was there, but I had given up on that idea because of the lack of parking. (I was really irritated by then because I had spent over an hour driving around trying to find a laundromat I could park not too far away from.) Finally, I suggested that she drive around town some day and see how many people with RVs were shopping in town.

Anyway, I packed my dirty clothes away and am heading for Denver tomorrow for two nights. I'll do my laundry there and get some shopping done there also.

a gal contacted me the other day to say that she had started a baby afghan for her son and wanted to finish it for his 20th birthday... she thought he would get a kick out of it actually was wondering if I would finish it for her   she came over today so I could look at it and see if it's something I could do so when I asked for the pattern she said no pattern had a friend show her a stitch and that is what she was doing.. this should prove interesting she wasn't even sure what stitch she was using which after almost 20 years I can understand that... it's a huge hook never used one that big nor used yarn that bulky... nor have I ever edged a afghan before guess it will be whatever size the yarn allows no getting more... and hopefully 1 skein is enough for the edging (she bought a similar color but not the same and noticeable so will use it for edging)
Barbi it could be that Romeoff is having his feelers hurt and feels left out it's like having a new born got to pay attention to the toddler ...
I have been going to clean the counters for a long time so decided since it was raining and chilly that I would tackle one of them today and get to the others another day or week... still have stuff not put back loaded the dish washer so that things could get cleaner I put a plastic bag over mom's bousch but forgot to put one thing in it so will need to do that it's not been used in forever this way if it's covered it won't get dusty and be ready to use if the urge happens I'd rather use the stand mixer anyway... personally I would like to find a spot for it and have more space on the counters but doubt I can get that to happen...
I did remember RABBIT'S last night shortly after midnight and then I said it again this morning when I woke up
Carol has Bill had problems with food since he got COVID or is that a new thing... last fall when I saw the NP and mentioned how mom doesn't eat well he said that sometimes they are just too tired to eat so if his energy level is down that might be it she also doesn't eat things she did forever again has to do with aging...
we went to DQ for supper tonight I just didn't want to deal with supper with the counter still dispersed ... gave thought to ice cream but was chilly enough to decide against it...
you all have a great day

Yay! We had a big change tonight! Just when I was getting ready for bed, I decided to let McKenzie (new name!) out for a little bit. Well, she surprised me by brushing up against my leg and meowing! She kept meowing like she was happy she could finally do that! That is the first time I have heard her meow!

Then another surprise! She started playing with the Romeows toys! She found a mouse and started flinging it all over. So I got some other toys out and she was having a blast playing with everything! Her inner kitten finally got to come out and play! Who knows how long it has been since she has felt good enough to play! I am so glad! She obviously feels better physically tonight but also comfortable enough here to meow and play! Now I just have to hope that eventually she will want to befriend and play with Romeow. Still growls and hisses at him if he gets too close to her enclosure, altho he keeps trying to work his way closer each time.

And, yes, I am paying a lot of attention to him. When it is his turn to come out of the bedroom, I play with him and pet him. Last night I left the bedroom door open and hoped for the best (with her in the enclosure) and never heard a peep from either one of them all night. He did spend a lot of time on the bed with me tho. So he is getting plenty of attention and reassurance from me.

I decided on McKenzie instead of Juliet because I reread about Romeo & Juliet and it is such a tragic story that I decided I wanted something with a little less drama involved! McKenzie just seems to fit her.
