I drove out to pick up the kitty this afternoon. It was pretty windy here but driving north on the freeway, it got windier by the minute with sand blowing across the road. The shelter is in the wide open desert off the freeway and it was like a sand hurricane there! It was hard to walk from my car to the shelter door! Felt like I was getting sand blasted!
Anyways, I picked her up and got her to my car trying to shelter the carrier with my body from the blowing sand. We had a pretty uneventful drive home altho the traffic was moving slow from the wind.
I got her settled in to her screen room. Later, I let Romeow out of the bedroom to see what would happen. He saw her and made a B-line to her (more excitement than aggression). I think it scared her and she meowed and hissed at him. So I put him back in the bedroom. That is the only time I have heard her make a sound. I let her out to walk around the house for a bit. Then she went back in her screen room and found her "bedroom" (an enclosed cardboard box with a door, little windows and a "roof-top" deck on the top of the box.) I put a sheet over the screen room to make her feel a little more secure. Later, I let Romeow out for awhile. He couldn't see her because of the sheet but he knew she was in there. I kept him away from getting too close tho. Now he is back in the bedroom and she has been out exploring. She has now gone back into the screen room and is laying down again. She has had a long, tough day with surgery and a new home, so is probably very tired.
I have checked her incision and it looks good. She seems to be leaving it alone so far. She is very thin even for a small cat. Her fur is also thin and scruffy. That hopefully will all change soon and she will fill out and get fluffy! She is very sweet and brushes up against me and loves being petted. She has a soft purr, but so far no meow.
It is still very windy out! One of my neighbor's car cover blew off last night so I called Dave to come by today to help me put it back on since they are gone for the summer. We tried to put it back on and tie it down but was too windy so I will wait until the winds die down and try it again. I think it needs more rope, altho the material is very thin and not very strong. The summer heat will literally make that material disintegrate, so it probably won't make it thru another summer. But I will do what I can for now.
No jury duty tomorrow so I can spend the day with kitty to help her feel more comfortable. I need to keep in mind that she is probably not going to feel very perky for awhile due to the surgery. I was told to only give her a tiny bit of food tonight and gradually increase it a little tomorrow so she doesn't get sick.
Tomorrow I will try to make up my mind on a name for the kitty.
