Memorial Day 2023

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Memorial Day 2023

Postby Colliemom » Mon May 29, 2023 8:13 am

Good Morning. 53°and sunny here at the 45th. Todsy we pause to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we can live the lives we do.

I’m already showered, dressed and have had breakfast. My repair guy is supposed to come and repair the dry rot area on my porch beam today. Since I’m not sure what time he’s coming, thought I had better get my act together soon as I got up. Now am relaxing a bit before I start my day. Want to run the vac, do some quick book work and then head outside and do some chores. Need to clean up my work area in my garage from yesterday’s flower planting project. By the time I finished with all the flowers, I was tired and not in mood for doing much cleanup, so just piled the plastic trays and junk in my cart and parked it. Sept the dirt off the work table and called it good.

Flowers are all planted both in my yard and the sub entrance, so now it will be water and keep after them. The flowers at the sub entrance are under a roof, so I have to haul water out there from the house here. That roof keeps rain out of that flowerbed when it does rain. Crazy design if you ask me, but that’s the way it as built way back when. The support posts are starting to rot though and it’s getting a bit wobbly, so one of these days, it may come down if not taken down first. And the boy and girl are in the flowerbed as well. Here’s the pic for those who have been waiting to see it.

I will post a pic of the planter box later as I need to make a repair on my Raccoon fence Peeker that is part of it.

Weekend neighbors are packing up and heading for home. The exodus south is beginning as the long weekend starts winding down. Will be quiet up here for a few weeks till schools are out, graduation parties are over, etc.

Off to get things moving here. Want to take advantage of cool morning to get the outside chores done after I run vac etc. Have a nice day.

Sue, you do a great job with your garden plantngs, both flower and foliage and wood decor! I'm sure everyone appreciates how it adds to neighborhood.
I spent last night in local ER, because my BP went way up amd refused to come down with extra doses of RX or with walking. All tests (EKG,blood work, chest X-ray) were normal, or I'd still be there. They ended up giving me a dose of a third drug (in addition to the extra I had taken at home), before it dropped 40 points back into safe zone ! Still don't know why this keeps happening (started in 2021 a week after first vaccine), but labs drawn last week and or the pulmonary function or O2 monitoring coming up, may give us answers. I came home close to midnight and slept ok. Just hope and pray we can get to answers soon.
Enjoy your day, as we remember our fallen, which, for me, includes 5 of my high school friends.

Velda, I will be thinking of you as you deal with the limits of doctors and the limits of the science of medicine. It is when I so wish that my magic wand worked better..... But glad that you checked in, I have been thinking of you and hoping that you would post with any news......

Afternoon Sue and All, 76°cloudy and rain starting shortly. Sue, do enjoy seeing you woodwork and of course I love the flowers. Will be a heavy beach traffic heading home. I have no plans so will just watch out the window. It takes about an hour to water all the house plants so that chore is done. Have a couple loads of laundry. The saga of crab soup. I mentioned it’s been years since I made it and back then I didn’t need a written recipe plus I still had a decent memor. Soup tasted pretty good until I added the barley. A half cup seemed right but only if you want pudding soup. By the time I added enough stock to correct the problem the broth lost the flavor of crab. Will put the barley vegetable soup in the freezer today. I do remember our fallen heroes . Be safe

Velda, trying to figure out medical issues can be so trying! Hopefully, you'll have answers soon. Sue, always admire your handiwork! Very cute. Hoping I can think about pots for the patio next week!

Up too early and have had a little nap. Son-in-law is taking his sister and her husband home - 4 plus hours one way - so Monica asked if I'd take her for Walmart pickup. Will get me out of my mess for a bit. :) Several Find a Grave requests for photos at the cemetery just down the street so a good day to do that as flags are up and graves decorated. The big Maggie Valley Sling event is this week in North Carolina. One of the guys totaled his Sling in Tennessee on the way, but he fortunately walked away. Going too fast in the rain.

Good morning gals!

I have a haircut to do in about an hour. The wind has died down this morning so just a light breeze out there now.

Velda, I sure hope they can figure out what is going on and get it fixed. Sounds similar to Martha's son's problem with the blood pressure stuff. Mine always runs low. I usually tell the nurse ahead of time so she doesn't panic but forgot this week when I was at the drs office and she commented on how low it was. I told her it is always low. (90 over 50 or so).

I have a new issue that just started this week. I have a pinched nerve that is causing a sharp pain and burning sensation in the front of my left thigh. I also noticed the skin around that area is numb. I did some research online last night and it is called "meralgia parasthetica". So I found some stretching exercises online to relieve it. It is very painful! So now my poor left leg has not only a torn meniscus and sciatica nerve pain, but now this! And this pain is brought on by sitting for long periods. So finding a job where I don't stand or sit, will be all but impossible now! Yikes! :o

I posted in "Pets" about my new furry companion! I will pick her up on Wednesday afternoon! I am SO excited! I hope Romeow is gonna love her too!

Have a good day!

Good morning. It is a nice day here today 83 predicted. Then we start a cool down to the 70's so should be a really good week.

Still have a little bit more to extend my watering system but need to go to Home Depot for a couple of different items. I picked up a couple of rib eyes yesterday at Safeway $4.97/lb limit 1 pkg of 2. Came to $25 They are super nice looking, I will freeze one and cook the other on my BBQ I am going out today so will see if I can find some propane in my travels.

Edited to add
WOHOO UHaul is open today and sells propane. I am on it.

Velda, that's scary. I hope they can solve this, and quickly.

Shirl, I hope moving your post is the help you wanted. Lol Done

Quiet day here. I spent a couple hours yesterday morning and again this morning working on the oxidation of my RV. I've only worked on one side so far. And this is just the start. Hopefully I'll be able to make a difference, slowly but surely. I couldn't find my long scrub sponge (I need to remind myself to make sure things get returned when I loan them out!) So I've ordered a new one from Amazon which will be here later this week and really help me out. I also bought the special oxidation cleaner I've used in the past. Right now I'm sticking with clear water and elbow grease.

Time to walk the gardens with Ty. Let's see, we've found a rattler the one day and yesterday a tarantula. And we still love walking the gardens. Not much time left to enjoy them!

Well, I have done 3 haircuts today and made $80! Not bad! That will pay for some gas, and I will hang on to the rest for anything else that comes up.

I don't have to check in again on the jury duty site until tomorrow night now.

Just relaxing tonight.

Barbie, I call a lot of places where they take a message and pass it on to a doctor or whomever, and I am finding that a lot of these people are working out of their homes. I can hear kids and a lot of home noise in the background. Seems like their should be some jobs as a sort of off-site answering machine where you could sit in a recliner or other comfortable chair.

I had a long day. I was just relaxing in bed, staying under my comforter to stay warm, when I got a call at 8:15 am from the other POA who is in Ireland. They called her instead of me to tell us that my aunt was being sent to the hospital ER because of severe diarrhea and weakness. So over the next couple of hours, I made multiple calls to dementia facility to try to get more details, to the hospital to tell them i am medical POA, to private caregiver company to find out where caregiver was, as facility did not know and I wanted her to follow ambulance to hospital. Finally called the private care manager lady we have hired to visit and check on the care my aunt is receiving. She packed up and went to ER and stayed until late afternoon when she was released. Hospitals are scary places when you don't know where you are or why you are there. Anyway, they also found a UTI and sent her home. Have not yet heard how she was after being sent home, but I know care manager will make sure she gets her meds and stuff to drink because she needs it for UTI. Ooverall today, i must have made 20 phone calls plus some text messages. Also sent a long complaint about the caregiver who took my aunt into her room after breakfast on Friday for a nap. My aunt fell asleep, but the nap was about 3 hours too long and she almost missed lunch. BUT the caregiver was caught asleep as well--her excuse for letting my aunt miss lunch was that my aunt had eaten a big breakfast!!! Completely unacceptable, obviously.

Tomorrow morning is my 10 am visit with Ford dealer. Funny thing--first 24 hours after putting in antifreeze, it was down an inch. it is now about 65 hours since then, it is only down a bit more. I expected it to be empty by now. Anyway, I am going to add a bit of fluid, then head to Amazon hub place to pick up bike cover, and then to dump my tanks, and finally to Ford dealer. (This is a small place so the total of the above is about 6 miles!)

Sue, your decorations are very cute. You live in a better part of the country than I do. Your things wouldn't last 24 hours before someone stole or destroyed them around here. Some idiot woman got caught on camera stealing Christmas decorations out of someone's yard.

Shirl, I have never eaten barley, that I know of, but have gotten carried away adding rice. I don't remember ever seeing barley or a recipe that called for it.

About all I did was mow the yard this afternoon. Tomorrow I'm having lunch with three of my camping friends.

Martha Campbell's soup used to (probably still) have a soup called Beef Barley my husband used to really like it me not so much...
I saw a recipe the other day for why is it that sometimes you have the name on the tip of your mind but can't spit it out... that soup you all in Louisiana like with lots of stuff in it not gumbo though.... is there a recipe on the recipe site for it?
gave my grandson his afghan last night... he said he liked it but he is a guy and in his 20's so they aren't generally excitable... it was good to see him.... even liked his beard but guess it's going to go away soon... I actually think it looks great on him
got some of the planters cleaned out and the two plants planted as well as the two strawberries... inside plants watered... my brother and his wife stopped by he dusted the ceiling fan and the lamp over mom's chair and then vacuumed the floors cause of the dust he made... was nice of him I was going to vacuum the floors today anyway so saved me that started a row on my Swedish weave but didn't go far looked at the time and it was way late for supper had BLT's tomatoes were going bad so had to use them
need to go to my room might not even play my game... it's later than normal... I think I feel asleep for a few so was late starting my afghan so that made everything else late
Sue your flowers look great
I was going to make comments but now can't remember on what...
Anita take your time unpacking so you don't get overwhelmed I bet those pictures of the graves will be appreciated... and a good day to do it...
you all have a great day

Sheila, you got me on the soup. I can't think of a Louisiana soup with a lot in it besides Gumbo. My favorite is Corn and Crab Bisque.

I saw the picture of the afghan on Facebook. That looks like a lot of work but beautiful.
