Warming Up Tuesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Warming Up Tuesday

Postby Colliemom » Tue May 09, 2023 8:25 am

Morning. Sunny and 47° here at the 45th. Pretty good warm up coming this week. May be nesr 80 as the week goes on. Above normal temps. So will be working in yard to get the flowerbed project I am doing around flagpole completed before it get too hot, being it’s in full sun. Hot weather and I do not get along. I had two circle beds around the pole, one inside of the other. Took the bigger one out and expanded the smaller one by a foot. Need to check and level the stone blocks and get some dirt to fill it in. Then will go get more perennials.

I’m chiming in on the hearing aid discussion too. I’ve had them since I was 5 years old. Like Beth, I have a severe loss. But aids have come a long way over the years. I use closed captioning in my TV and if you are diagnosed with a hearing loss requiring aids and have a landline, you can get a free phone that has captioning. It prints the conversations as you talk and also recorded them if you want to refer back to something. Has volume adjustments, answering g machine etc. . There have been some recent apps out for cell phones. I have one installed on my cell, but haven’t had a chance to use it yet. I have a hard time understanding him a cell phone, so I don’t use mine much. Mostly text if I can. One important thing to keep in mind. If you suspect you might have a hearing loss, get tested. An untreated hearing loss can lead to permanent deafness. If they recommend aids, , get them, otherwise you are heading for permanent deafness. Be sure that you have a good audiologist that knows how to fit you properly and that will be there if you need some adjustments later down the line for cleaning, repair or whatever. Hearing aids are not a one size fits all. You need ones for your particular type loss. Mine sees me about every six months. She checks and cleans my aids and makes sure that they are operating properly and about every other visit will do a quick check on my hearing to see if there are any changes. There is no charge for the services and three years worth of free batteries as part of my hearing aid purchase.

I need to get a move on here. Tine is moving along. Day is warming up, got things to do. Have a wonderful day, wherever you are and whatever you are doing.

Sue, I totally agree with everything you said about hearing aids. And how important a good audiologist is. I learned when one caused me pain and ear damage taking a mold, for example, that he wouldn't get my business. I loved my first one in Illinois and she was associated with a hospital. So when I moved to Wisconsin I went to one associated with a major hospital there and was quite happy. Now I go out of my way to try to get to my current audiologist in Casa Grande, AZ every year. She does all that yours does and will even mail me batteries if I run out. I completely trust her. Shortly after I got my 1st hearing aids, my father in law got his. He was always complaining and was constantly being told to just get used to them. He said that was a common gripe in his senior group so almost none of them wore their aids regularly. Well, I had problems with my first aids. My audiologist had them remade, still problems. I tried to suck it up and she said no, never. It turns out they think I was allergic to something in that brands aids. They switched to another brand and it was night and day difference. So I went with my fil to an appt. Turns out the guy there didn't have any care and really meant to suck it up to the seniors. And that's common. Almost no audiologist has ever worn aids or knows the problems of a bad fit. I ended up talking to his senior group and empowered them to stick up for themselves and get things fixed BTW, I've gone to both Sam's club and Costco for hearing checks but didn't feel they were knowledgeable enough to purchase from them. That's just me. And could have simply been the help at those locations.

No snake sightings this morning on walks, thank you lol On the couch and about to check what's on to stream that I'm interested in. And I'll be checking cabinets and fridge to see if I can avoid a trip to the store and still have things for lunch/snacks at work. Dinner is easy. Lots in the freezer.

Good afternoon. It’s been a few busy days outside trying to get caught up on yard work while dealing with a puppy who thinks he needs to get his nose into everything. It’s like having a hyperactive toddler! Unfortunately due to some ongoing health issues I had to opt out of the puppy class so am regrouping and working extra hard with Buddy. Just couldn’t commit to knowing if I would be able to make the class or not. Today I was able to get a few flower beds cleaned up and the little brick patio beside the house. I’m ashamed to admit that I haven’t gotten to them sooner and I’m paying for it now with extra work. I’m trying to plan out the days between the rain days and sunny days for outside and inside chores. And the forecast keeps changing! Seems different from the morning news and the evening news! But at least the temps are more spring like! So I have no complaints! Beth, I would freak out if I saw a snake on the path I was on! Buddy’s recall isn’t great yet so he’s always on the leash when we’re walking! Like Sue it’ll be awhile yet before it’s safe to put in any plants in the ground. Not sure if I’ll try to put any in in the back but maybe will out front where Buddy can’t get to them! Have a feeling he’d just dig them up! I need to think about figuring out something for dinner since I didn’t pull anything from the freezer this morning. Hope everyone had a good day. I read the posts every day but seem to always get sidetracked when I decide to post. But enjoy reading what everyone is doing. Thanks for being here!

I actually put the swifter together and swiffited the floors and then mopped them felt like I accomplished something... then made soup for supper from the chicken bones that I frozen after the chicken I roistered the other day... last year my son said that his mil was going to make soup for a meal that they were having as a entire family ddil comes from a large family she had found a recipe for creamy chicken noodle soup they thought it sounded disgusting so talked her into doing something else... I happened to see a can of creamy chicken noodle soup either progresso or campbell's and tried it not bad so today I looked for a recipe for it found one made it and other than I put way too much oregano in it I thought it was really good... mom is back to not eating much she said this morning that she just wasn't hungry I said the less you eat the smaller your stomach gets the less you want to eat... she still didn't eat much more... she of course has been worried about my brother and his surgery will try to find a day that will work next week that we can drive up to his house he lives about 1 and 1/2 hours away...
did get my Swedish weave done some days I can do 1 half row other days 2 half rows... today was only 1 half row... I shouldn't have done it supper was way late... no idea what supper will be tomorrow... I picked up this cheese found a recipe to use it need to see if we have some Penne pasta and get some parsley it sounds good we will see....
you all have a great day

I surprised myself this morning. :o After sleeping about 10 hours last night, I got up wide eyed and bushy tailed and started in on cleaning my bedroom! I removed the 3 inch memory gel foam mattress pad from my bed and went to remove the cover on it and the pad started to fall apart in tiny pieces! :o So out it went! So for tonight, I am just sleeping on the main mattress. I think it is a little hard so will see how well I sleep tonight. I may be going to WM tomorrow to get a foam pad to put on it.

Went thru the books on my bookshelf which are ones I want to take with me on the road. I have added to them over the past year with books I have bought since then. I put them in categories and then went thru each one. I am taking almost half of them out of the collection to be put in storage. I discovered some books I didn't even remember getting but look really good so I'm anxious to read them. I think quite a few of those came from the library book store. I also found the missing library book!! :o So now I can bring that back in. I just bought a new one to replace that one but I am going to keep it instead of sending it back to Amazon. It is a good book on the 10 Best of Santa Fe, NM.

Still have a few things to do in my room and then wash the floor, before moving on to the other rooms. I haven't cleaned house in awhile and it shows  . I hope I can keep this motivation and energy going for awhile.

We are under a high wind warning here (again!). Was nice the past couple days but the winds are blowing hard tonight! No open windows over night! Too much dust in the air.
Karen, you sure have some major heat coming up this weekend! We will be close to 100* on Saturday.

The only snake I have ever seen out here in CA is one I saw sunning itself on a trail near San Diego. It was just a garder snake but unlike the small one-footers we had back in MN, this one was about 4 feet long! I shooed it off the trail since there were people flying thru on bikes and I didn't want him getting run over.

Off to bed...
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Barbie, I quite like snakes, although I haven't seen one in years (not since I moved from my home in the rural Sierra foothills). I think they are quite interesting creatures.

Thank you for having the kindness and forethought of shooing it off the road. I'm sure you probably saved it's life.

Thanks Anne. I am not a fan of snakes but I don't like the thought of any critter being injured or killed.

I mostly like critters with fur, but I do like turtles and lizards.
