Sunday and Fun in the Gardens

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunday and Fun in the Gardens

Postby Bethers » Sun May 07, 2023 10:30 am

They are opening on Sundays starting today, 10 to 3. So Ty and I were out walking (me) and running (him) from about 9-10. He's now sleeping again. If it's like yesterday it'll be really hot this afternoon and I'll limit our time until after 7 when temps go down.

Anita, I've always enjoyed all your great family stories and thought yours is a family is y want to be a member of. It hurts me that one granddaughter got married and you didn't even know. But what a delight about the one advancing in vet school (aunt's granddaughter?). How I admire her.

I'm arguing with myself about what to do today. Drive into town? Be a bum? Bum is currently winning. I know I'll spend money I don't need or want to spend. And I'll go in Tues or Wed to make sure I have lunches for my work days. I will do laundry later today. Water pressure is low now for a couple hours while some of the gardens new areas are being drenched. I expect that on Mondays but at least the director told me yesterday she'd be doing it and asked what time I wanted to do laundry.

The new manager at the motel I managed last year is a real screw up from what I'm hearing. I just laugh.

Good Afternoon, Beth I hope you decided on something fun to do today. I had a busy morning with a tree company man getting an estimate to take part of a tree down. I liked him a lot and his price was the best. It will be a couple of weeks before he will have time. Hope the limb that is hanging stays put awhile longer. We had a loud thunderstorm this afternoon complete with heavy rain and hail. First in a long time. I gave treats to the dogs and acted excited. So far it seems to be working as Pippa doesn't seem to be afraid. Toby thinks he can bark it away. I just put a pot of beef soup on and almost started a fire! I always store my soup pan in a cast iron skillet and put a napkin between them. I put the pot on the stove and the napkin had stuck to the bottom and I didn't notice until I started to smell something burning. It hadn't caught on fire yet but was pretty scorched when I got it off. So I'm having a bit of Baileys Irish Cream to relax :D

Good afternoon. I am not moving too fast today. After all the shoveling and lugging of pots I did yesterday my body was not being a cooperative entity. So I declared today a day of rest LOL will get back at it tomorrow as I still need to put my raised bed together. I thought I would do that today but nah. Just going to be a slug today. I am going to make the hamburger rice, mushroom casserole so I can freeze some do ahead meals. Might make a quiche too as that is good for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I am making a crustless quiche, you know less calories.

Time for my afternoon Mocha and a couple of those sugar free cookies.

Guess we are all being bums today. I have been watching TV all day and am amazed at some of the kitchens in the remodel shows. Just saw one with so much counter space that it would take me all day just to wipe it all off! and the kitchen was almost the entire size of the first house my ex and I bought for $18,400 way back in 1968! And who wants to clean those huge places??? When I am done living in this rig, I will want something with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, and about 1,100 sq ft, with a yard just big enough for a few tomato and vegetable plants, plus maybe a two-person patio.

I am off to Walmart's and a laundromat tomorrow. Need some groceries for next couple of weeks, and also need to do some laundry. ALso, need to stop at Lowes to see if I can get some traps for moths--not the small pantry type, but the big ones that sneak in at night and drive you crazy. I don't know how they are getting in, but I have started closing my windows before dark so they don't get in from the badly fitting screens, but that has not seemed to help. There are no moths anywhere during the day, but as soon as I get into bed and feel relaxed, one of them will flit around the TV in my bedroom. Zap it with electric flyswatter, and then another one flits in. Been killing maybe 3-4 every night this past week. One thing I thought about last night was that I leave my bathroom drawer slightly open and there is an open space under it that has wires and pipes in it, so it might be open to the outside. So am keeping it closed to see if that helps. I will see if Lowes has any electric indoor traps for that kind of moth.

I got back from the lake this afternoon and I'm pooped. Sugar is tired too. I got everything unloaded and the towels washed and dried. The fishing was not very good. Thursday when we got to the lake the fish were biting but we were mostly catching small catfish that were too small to keep. Friday the fish didn't bite all day until 7:45 that night and we had to come in at 8:30 because it was too dark. Saturday the same thing. The fish were few and far between. My sister has to walk with a rolling walker and I have to keep bringing her things and getting her line unhooked. I looked out a couple of time and the kids that were there were helping her. I told her if she fell in the lake I would have to float her to the boat launch. I don't see any more camping in her future. She doesn't try to exercise to try to get better and just sits around smoking cigarette after cigarette. The most exercise she gets is going outside to smoke.

If you look on Facebook for Vermilion Cattlewomen there are pictures of some of the Charcuterie boards we make. Mine wasn't picture worthy so I ate it. It isn't a private page so you should be able to see it.

I think I remember the Queen's Coronation. I would have been almost 9. I remember all the horses. We could only get about 5 channels at the lake so I missed the coronation and the derby.

Anita, sorry your grandkids don't include you. I know the feeling. It's like pulling teeth to carry on a conversation with my grandson. Good for Kyndall wanting to be a large animal vet. Most go into small animal because there is more money in it. I always said I wanted to be a vet when I was growing up but didn't have any idea that I would be able to go to college. When I started college I would have been the only girl in some of the classes. I don't know why I was worried about that because when I got to some of the second year accounting classes there would only be two or three girls. My aunt was lending me the money and I wouldn't have had the money to go to vet school. Now after years of seeing what the vets have to go through I'm glad I had an office job.

My sister picks up groceries at one of the places that gives away food a couple of times a month. I don't know if it's a church or a government thing but they get some strange things for a food bank. They get bags of walnuts and almonds which she gives to me. The last pickup she got a bag of candied fig pieces. She gave me part of the bag. I guess they would be good in cookies. All the canned goods have labels I have never seen before.

Velda she said that it's short of the short LED Lower Esophageal Dysphagia she said on her charts that do the ED
well I joined the slug club... came home from church and fixed mom lunch went to the restroom with the intent of reading scriptures and then taking a nap... heard voices but thought it was the TV so sorta glanced into the living room as I was darting to the bedroom had taken off my skirt and who did I see but my #3 DD so slipped into pj bottoms and went out and visited mom fell asleep slept the whole time we were visiting... she had come to do my laundry but didn't have enough for her to do... so we visited ... it was a great to see her... been a few weeks...
I would be so sad if one of my grandkids got married and I wasn't even told let alone not given the opportunity to be there... three of of granddaughters are in no contact with their dad I also find that very sad...I so hope that one day they rethink the stance that they are taking..
so after dd left I went to read scriptures but nap won so need to go do that now... I'd planned on pork chops and baked potatoes but as it is glad I didn't do that mom didn't sleep well last night so very tired so she hasn't eaten well
in a few I will go in and read scriptures or at least part of what I normally read.. will have to make up for it tomorrow...
you all have a great day
