Damp Saturday Morning

Morning everybody. 42° and a bit wet from an overnight or early morning rain. I haven’t seen the forecast yet, but know it’s gong to be a chilly weekend. Highs in mid 40’s at most and some rain/snow, maybe a dusting by tomorrow morning. Be a good weekend to stay in and finish up those loose ends in the basement and start painting the yard art I sanded and primed yesterday evening. But first am heading to town to pick couple things at Lowe’s and then to Meijer for kibble and browse the aisles to see what else I might want to throw in my emergency food stash.

Karen, great news on the car and better yet, saving some green too. And your weather is looking great too. We got to mid 50’s yesterday. Dogs and I went for a long 2 1/4 mile walk earlier than we usually do. Decided after we got home, to clean the straw and leaves out of my flowerbed, blow the leaves against the fence out and uncover my two statues in the yard.

Velda, I too agree about the use it or lose it. I know everybody always asks if I ever do nothing and yes, I do have my relaxing times. But keeping busy dong things is what is keeping me moving. It’s one reason I hope to stay in my S&B as long as I can. Having to take care of house and yard chores keeps me physically and mentally occupied. Sure, there are days when I get tired of shoveling or blowing snow in winter, keeping after the yard and doing the other things that go with home ownership, but it’s a form of physical exercise. Snow and yard work gets me out in the fresh air and enjoying nature around me. And projects and wood yard art keep me occupied at other times. Those are my hobbies. I know there will come a day when I am no longer going to be able to do a lot of this, but I’m going to keep chugging on till I can’t. Then I will have to do like Shirl and take up apt. gardening That’s a good form of mental exercise trying to figure out what works and wha doesn’t. One is never too old to learn.

I’m going to get cleaned up, wash my hair and get ready to head for town. So will wish all of you a wonderful day.

Afternoon Sue and All, it’s sunny, humid and severe T-storm watch for this afternoon. The balcony is a mess but I just pushed pots up against the wall, turned the little table upside down so high winds do not toss it thru the slider. I do one thing at a time, playing on the balcony means the apartment is messy. It will get better. Lol Guess Karen is singing on the road. Sue, money is why I sold my house. If that isn’t a problem for you can rent your house. Now is the time to put an apartment in your garage. You will need a workshop. Lol. Wish I had a potting shed. Be safe

Shirl, no rentals allowed in the sub and they are more of a pain than they are worth. We have deed restrictions here. Nothing overly restrictive, just basic stuff that everybody can live with. But they are for perpetuity and binding in a court of law. But these past 4 or 5 years, some people who own second homes around the lake. have started renting them on Vrbo and Airbnb. When a place goes up for sale, most tines is bought with the intention of renting. We have a small POA and not a heck of a lot of budget, so they have been kind of letting the rentals slip by and not enforcing the restriction, as can’t afford a court issue. But last fall they decided to form a committee and get together with a lawyer to review the deed restrictions as they were written over 25 years ago and things, laws and ordinances have changed in that time. Some restrictions are outdated I’m sure. If it is determined that the rental restriction is still valid after not being enforced, then those property owners will be told to cease and desist. The majority of us who are full time here and some of the second home owners as well, do not want rentals here. So we shall see. Besides that, I’m not giving up my brand new generator for somebody else to use It’s either an outright sell the house or forget it. Hire somebody to do what I need done.

Sue, I was just kidding. My previous communication has similar restrictions. I understand your reasoning. You are in the safest place and among friends which is so important nowadays. We do what is best for us. Waiting for the storm to hit. Last bag of soup from freezer in case of problems.

Brief renters trashed my parents house that I had renovated, so I will never rent out anything again!! Damaged walls and big Bouvier puppies they had ate part of the carpeting.

Long day yesterday. Had to drive to St George to get blood taken, appt at Camping WOrld to get new MaxAir vent cover because old one had big hole in it, also got bathroom vent fan fixed. Then to Walgreens to pick up prescription and to Walmart to put groceries away. And since I had to fast for the morning blood work, I did not eat anything until 3 pm!! Got home and added water to tank, then had to set up and put groceries away, and do a bunch of cleaning because the service guy had been in my RV--changed towels and bedding and damp mopped floor! Whew.

So, after I get my hummingbird feeder set up, I am heading out for a shuttle ride down the valley and taking some more photos. Need to update my blog tonight, also.

I rented my last house to friends. Needless to say they aren't friends anymore as damage happened. I luckily had a couple other friends who helped fix it before I put the house on the market. I had also left tools and a few other things for them to use because they didn't have any. Guess what went with when they moved. Absolutely everything.

On another note maybe some of you picked up on feelings I have at this job I've not been talking about. Basically like the job. Love the gardens. Like almost everyone. But the director, yes, the person in charge, is a problem. One minute she's praising me for everything. The next she's cutting me down over ridiculous things. She's super sensitive and a bad trainer. It's a volunteer job and I've been going with the flow. But today she was bonkers or praising and driving me nuts. I got in trouble for how I opened a sleeve of coffee cups. Actually, the health dept would agree with me. But she's insistent in doing it another way. I said more than once during this tirade I'd do it her way but she didn't like knowing I believe it's wrong. Then she came back to ring up a customer (my job) but I don't mind help. I came over and started to bag the items and she waved to stop, looking like I couldn't do it right and I calmly said I'm just going to help and bag this and her comment, "then do it right. These need to be wrapped first." The customer looked totally shocked and later found me to give me a hug! Now there's a meeting with the director, myself and another newer hire for Tuesday. That's one of my days off but I agreed to it. If she goes bonkers at all during this meeting I might be leaving. The 2nd in command told me the other day she's overworked. Yes, but she is afraid of giving lots of things to others to help and she ends up spending time doing the easy stuff any of us could do (example is she fills all the hummingbird feeders, then is crazy because she has so much to do). She bought lemonade and some goodies to put out for Earth Day, but when I offered to help make it, etc. Nope she had to do it. Thanks for listening. I won't go on and on more than I just did.

Tonight should be awesome for watching the Lyric Meteor showers if you have clear skies. I'm too tired to stay up for them.

in the living room longer tonight... got caught up in watching Monk don't remember this one... and I was later getting on the computer than normal... I was working on getting my count on my afghan right then did my two rows... my problem was not counting right when I was doing my mock counting with the safety pin instead of doing 19 stitches I was doing 18 there are days that I amaze myself it may have been the same day that I "lost" my phone I knew where I left it I saw it I am a creature of habit... I rarely take my phone with me to fix breakfast (pj's don't have pockets) and I had been on it before fixing bk I'd pressed the snooze button several times... I knew it was in the bedroom... so after I made the bed I couldn't find my phone it wasn't visible I didn't find it on the floor just couldn't figure it out it had to be in that room... then it dawned on me bet it slide off the pile of stuff and is under the bedspread... reached over and could feel it had to unmake my bed a bit... was so weird... I don't move a lot while sleeping and I hate heavy so since this bedspread is heavier I push it over to the side a bit and had the phone on top of the "pile" guess it did just that when I pulled the bedspread over to smooth it out it was also covered up...sounds like my day didn't start out well at all
I am sorry Beth that you have one of 'those' managers... some one who is so particular that there is a right and wrong way to open a sleeve of cups??? and the same person has to do it all then complain because she is overwhelmed... I hope that you can work it out... it does sound like you enjoy all other aspects of the place...
How is the new car Karen??? bet it is going to be fun once you figure out all the bells and whistles...
Barble my granddaughter was diagnosed with ADHD last year I do believe she is on meds... she is doing so much better... before she struggled going to school even wanting to go to school was the type who holed up in her room... last summer she started cosmetology school during the summer this winter she is going to high school and cosmetology school hs on A day cos..on B or it maybe the other way around... she is doing great in both places..
so perhaps a visit to the doctor would be a good idea...
Sue sounds like you have a lot less snow that we do if you can work on your flower beds... they are in site yet... but the snow is melting on the deck and I can see some of the pots that I plant flowers in...

Wow Beth! Some people are very controlling and perfectionistic and don't think anyone can do things as well as they can so they do everything themselves. Her demeaning behavior toward you is totally unacceptable, especially as a volunteer. I hope the meeting can resolve some things. But don't stay if things don't get better. (((hugs))) from me too!

Didn't do much today other than read and nap. I am stressing about starting this job. I hope it turns out to be a decent comfortable place to work. I will find out the day after tomorrow.

My dad rented out his basement for many years. He had some good tenants and some bad ones. My brother rented out a house of his once and the first tenants were awesome, the second ones were horrible and he had to literally pay them to leave, after they owed him 3 months worth of rent! He sold the house after that. My brother learned that you don't rely on getting a reference from the people the renters are currently renting from, because they will say just about anything you want to hear, just to get bad renters out of their house. Always go the owners of the next previous place they rented from. I have rented a lot of basement apartments and rooms in homes before and I always leave it better than when I moved in and always paid my rent on time, no drama, no police, no problems. I got a lot of great references from those places, and some longtime friends.
