Friday April 14

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Friday April 14

Morning All, sunny 70°. Well I did it again. The Latest bright idea. I mentioned I have a dinner of a hotdog, home fries and a little can of bake beans. The beans have gone from $1 up to $1.75. I grumbled about the price so #1 daughter gave me two cans at Christmas. Lol. I can pay for beans I don’t want to. I’ll show them, I will slow cooked a pot of bake beans and freeze portions. I put a pound of dry beans to soak yesterday at 11 am. The problem is my math is off. I have to cook the beans right after soaking which means the beans are done at 2am. Short story, I cooked on high (not recommended) for 2 hrs the down to low for 4. Can’t keep my eyes open at midnight, have steaming pot of beans. It took a half hour stirring hot beans that was sitting in ice water to cool so I could refrigerate. I will put crunchy beans back in the crockpot today and hope they will soften. The Busch Bean company is probably laughing. I need to dump the beans in the pot. Later. Be safe.

If I typed mistakes, I don’t care.

good morning to all - Shirl - I laughed out loud at the bean saga. I needed that. Yesterday at retinal doc did not go real well. Bill ended up getting the shot in the eye. Doctor convinced him it was his only chance of regaining and/or saving some of his eyesight. But he also said - it might not work. Bill has terrible reactions - real or not I don't know - to a lot of medical procedures. He was practically incapacitated for the rest of the day. Took Tylenol - was supposed to hold cool cloth over eye if uncomfortable. He decided frozen cloth would be better. Moaned and groaned and miserable all evening. When he isn't feeling good he mumbles and gets mad that I don't understand him, makes me want to smack him. Don't know how he is this morning as he went back to bed when I got up. He has appointment in May for 2nd shot. Needs one every month for a while. My feeling is he won't do it.
Other than that it was a good day, temperatures are down to tolerable and AC repair person is coming today. I'm getting more comfortable driving and just ignoring his "advice." Also put a barf bag in car as he tends to get car sick. Today I want to go back to nursery to get some shade plants, need to go to grocery store for some things. Or might just order from Walmart now that I think of it. Also he needs eye drops.
Best part of day I will just sit and watch some NASCAR later. Also might vacuum or call son to see if he can send someone to clean the house next week.
Sheila = love the hair cut and the pink stripe!! I'd love to spike my hair and put purple or pink in it.
Enough self pity for today.

Mornin' ladies~~~

Its been a while since I posted. Even missed rollcall on the first.

I finally left Tucson on the 12th and am now in Apache Junction. The delay was due to a lot of legal and financial things with Dad's and step-mom's estates. Living trust my a**! I think I worked 20 years for what I had to pay!

Then to top it off, I bought a new truck. Pulling into a parking lot, and some idiot turned wide and it was either let him hit me head on or jump a curb. So I jump a curb and took out a 3' sign, wrecking the passenger side from the rear door to the bed of the truck, including the running board. Couldn't get an estimate appointment until May (about 6 weeks after the damage), so took a 2 hour ride up to Apache Junction since I was scheduled to be here for a month. Ended up working with a dealer and salesman in Tucson where I bought my last F-150. Between the low mileage and full maintenance (including new battery) I just had done in preparation for hitting the road, I basically broke even on a new F-250 with a bit of $$ thrown in. Not an expense I planned on after buying the Airstream in November.

Well at least I'm out of Tucson. I hope to do some hiking here to look for the Salt River wild horses and visit their sanctuary, but I really need to look at routes. I'd still like to head to the PNW, but I can't seem to find a route over the Rockies that I feel comfortable with hauling the trailer. My last reservation is currently near Las Vegas and with Memorial Day fast approaching, I need to plan. I'm open to route help. Please! Or I may give up. :(

Have a great day ladies. I've been reading but can't remember everything to comment on. Sorry. :(

Cheryl when I come back from Las Vegas I go up to Reno and then to Susanville. I take 89 to Burney, and McLeod over to Weed. Here you will hook up with I-5. Dont let the Siskiyous scare you. I have taken that route many times it is actually easy. My Motorhome towing my SUV, Not always the first up the hill but not the last either lol Sorry about your truck tho.

Carol hope Bill feels better today. BUT If he want to see he better suck it up buttercup LOL Mine are only uncomfortable for the day. Next day feel good so there is hope for him.

Shirl I am going to try that Asparagus tip today for my dinner. Having salmon and asparagus tonight. I have a yam I might cook too. I was just reading a recipe on baked beans and have everything except the beans LOL so next grocery stop I will get some beans and give it a whirl. I dont care much for the canned but I do eat them once in a while after I doctor them up with some bacon, onion, brown sugar etc

YIPPEE We have a sunny day today. So will be heading outdoors now as it has warmed up enough for my old bones. Tomorrow supposed to be good too BUT then the rain is back. But I will take it. Sheila love your "new do".

Going to have an early lunch so I can get outside

It's a bit longer, but a flatter route is to take I-15 west from Las Vegas and then CA 99 or I-5 north. CA 99 is a little busier, but has more campgrounds, but I-5 is a bit faster, I think. On the other hand, US 99 though Nevada is a very good road, and 395 into CA is also a good road. If you decide to take 99 through CA, Tehachapi has a nice campground near the glider airport and a fantastic German bakery in town! ALso off of 99 in CA, there are a couple of nice COE campgrounds with electric.

Headed out to post office via shuttle today. I have three small packages for my CA grandkids and DIL for birthdays coming us, so I am going to send them in one package. Kids will get a check along with small gift, and DIL will get some things I got for her in Santa Fe.

Cooler today, but sunnier and still pleasant. I got a good night's sleep last night so feel better.

Got to bed late again last night  . The wind was ferocious all night long and into this morning! Now at noon it has calmed down a lot, finally! Just a light breeze now.

Romeow's buddy (I need a name for him) and another black cat, Bootsie, hung out on my deck all night to stay out of the wind. Maybe "Shadow" would be a good name for him...he is all black with long fur. Bootsie has short hair and is a tuxedo with white paws. He is one that I trapped and got neutered a couple years ago. He is skittish but will eventually let me pet him a little.

That autobiography site hasn't been able to fix that glitch I am dealing with on their site so I will have to find another site to work with.

Have a good day!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

I agree with Karen and Judy. Normally I'd go 395 to 89 and I'd stop at Lassen National Park. And I've gone north through Bend or headed west for the coast. You'll be fine :)

Work was busier yesterday than today. Probably because it's super windy and high fire danger because of it. I won't ask to leave early but would in a heartbeat if offered. I don't think that'll happen. I've played my word games and am in here. Have any of you heard of Aoudad's? Two guests came in asking if the sheep they saw on the trail were big horns? I got the answer. Nope. Aoudads. Never heard that name before. And did you know that Yucca cacti are part of the asparagus family? Learned that early on and no guest I've told had known. They are blooming now.

Shirl, I hope those beans are delicious.

Yes, I'm bored lol

Ok, er. . . hrm.

Cheryl are you asking about a safe route over the Rockies. . . several ladies have responded with good advice for a safe route over/through the Sierras. . . not exactly the same mountain range, but hey, anyway. . .

Cheryl, are you planning a trip over/through the Rockies before/after your trip presumably through the Sierra?

Enquiring minds want to know.

Good catch about the mountains, Anne! Shirl, I chuckled over the beans! Like me starting the self-cleaning oven the other day a little late and not realizing it takes 4 hours! Got too chilly to leave the window open the entire time! Karen, glad you are seeing a bit of sun! Sheila, happy you are back in Jackson safely! Beth, I have never heard of or seen those sheep! I guess asparagus being of the yucca family does make sense. Thanks for my 'learned something new today'!

I got the portable pressure washer out and the nozzle sprung a leak - I thought I had everything emptied for freezing weather. Oops! Luckily it came with a metal nozzle as well. Talked to my aunt the other day and have a clearer picture of our week of cabin vacation. :) Contacted my niece yesterday about gift for her 1-year-old. She sent his Amazon list, I ordered one of the items from Walmart within 15 minutes and it was just delivered from their local small town store! Wow!

I had a pretty good productive day. Trimmed the Maple tree with my new saw, worked great but now my arm is killing me LOL and it is not even heavy. My muscles are just not there yet I guess. Cut up all the branches to fit into my yard debris can and packed them up to get rid of 2 bags full tomorrow. Along with the cardboard. Went on "poop patrol" and then mowed my little patch of grass. It isnt really grass it is weeds I think. I plan on planting some grass down there for the dog, but she really isnt too picky where she goes. Came in and made myself a blended Hazelnut Mocha and flopped into my recliner. Think maybe some Motrin might be a good idea too later when I eat dinner.

Judy my experience with hwy 99 was I thought it was going to juggle all my fillings out and I would need a new kidney. Terrible road I thought.

Shirl, I had to laugh at your bean saga too. The only beans I cook are black-eyed peas with ham hocks. I like Bush's just fine. I don't even know what bean is in baked beans.

Carol, I feel for you and your patient. I don't think he should be putting something frozen on his eye. My husband would take horse medicine before he would go to a doctor.

Cheryl, you sure attract crazy drivers. The time I left Dallas and went to Oregon and Washington state I tried to stay on interstates as much as I could. My thinking was that I knew that interstates would have paved shoulders if I had trouble and I didn't know what other roads would have. I didn't have any trouble but I hated the mountains so much I came back down I-5 to I-40 to come home. That was just different aggravations.

Barbie, I hope the wind you have been having doesn't come here. It's been nice without all the wind. We are suppose to have rain again tomorrow, like I need more rain.

I went to Walmart looking for a small kids wagon or something with wheels to move the charger for the golf cart around. I had to get up and take Aleve last night because I picked it up yesterday. I didn't see anything so guess I'll have to order something online.

when we first moved from Iowa to Jackson we had 4x4 trips up into the national forest to see the flora and fauna and wildlife ect we also did a dutch oven supper when we did the suppers one of the dishes we served was baked beans... I was lazy plus dh loved them this way so it is what we did used VanCamp beans (no substitute allowed according to Larry) made lots so used lots of the following bacon fried and diced onion copious amount of brown sugar ketchup and mustard and oh yes when I had it liquid smoke was so good I still make it when family is getting together think I need to find a reason to make it mom won't eat beans... I had to laugh once I told my friend how to make them even more or less a recipe asked her how they were she said they still taste like beanie weenie come to find out she was using hot dogs no wonder they tasted like beanie weenie  I've put them in the ground in the oven in a crock pot and on top of the stove...
thank you all for the comments on my hair wish it still looked as good as it did after granddaughter did it but like it ... and it feels so good to have that all gone I didn't realize it had gotten that long.. and of course that was wet so perhaps it make it look longer my hair has a bit of curl to it so who knows...
that is too bad about your truck Cheryl glad you got a new one... good luck in finding your way over the mountains when #3 dd and I drove it not towing it was just another mountain pass... it's beautiful up there totally recommend seeing as much as you can
Carol I'm with Karen Bill needs to put on his big boy pants and suck it up as my dd would say she would use the buttercup term as well...unless he doesn't want to see then oh ok but its easy for us to say it... we don't live with him... so if Karen's feels better the next day how was Bill's the next day?
Judy be careful while in Zion Utah got so much snow and it's starting to melt flooding in some areas in SLC and Ogden.. at least according to the news...
I rebelled tonight and put Blue Bloods on Phyche is on Hallmark movies on Friday night not my favorite I didn't hear mom's comments but don't think blue Bloods is hers... oh well I did enjoy it tomorrow on Hallmark movies they are doing a marathon of Phyche  not looking forward to that... if mom hadn't come home today I might have thought about going to see dd's but then on the news the pass was not good so perhaps I wouldn't have..
Anita enjoy your trip back to Kansas
I'm with Cheryl I do read it all but then I space out what replies I was going to give...
wouldn't a two wheel cart work for moving the batteries Martha?
hopefully your winds are dying down Barbie
I spent the day moving stuff in still have stuff to bring in but not on the top of my list to bring in today

I just looked up aoudads and they are an African sheep that has been introduced to some areas of southwest. You can tell them from bighorns by their wider horns. Bighorn male sheep have thicker horns that curl into a full circle or at least almost a full circle by adulthood. Aoudads horns are thinner and point outward and backward

No flooding here in Zion National park but the Virgin River is raging with enough rapids and water that they have closed the Narrows. That is the far end of the river in the park where people usually can wade but not now!! River is also cloudy with silt from melting snow.
