Interesting Easter reminiscing going on today. When I was youngg, my parents always hid Easter eggs around the house for me to find. And of course there was the big Easter basket full of goodies and the big Chocolate bunny. I liked jelly beans and marshmallow eggs and yes those sugary, gooey chicks and Robins eggs. I always think of my one aunt, my mom’s sister who always gave me an Easter basket every year. She continued to do that till she passed away, and I was a full grown adult. They never had any children of their own. I think it just became a tradition and I really enjoyed it. Mom and I colored Easter eggs for many years. We just enjoyed it. Later, when the Cadberry Eggs came out, I loved those. Now, I don’t buy any Easter candy anymore. I’ve kind of just lost my taste for it. When I look back at all the sugar and stuff that we consumed at Easter and then again at Halloween, it amazes me we have any teeth left. We must all have had a mess of cavities, not to mention sugar highs  But I guess we kept the Dentists in business. Every year on Easter, the whole family, aunts, uncles, cousins etc., would all drive up to Frankenmuth for their famous chicken dinner. Back then everybody went to church and out to dinner in their Easter finery.

Frankenmuth is a German town located north of Detroit near the Bay City/Saginaw area and is called Michigan’s Little Bavaria. The town’s architecture is all Bavarian style. It’s a beautiful community and a major tourist destination. The Zehnder family operates two big restaurants there, The Bavarian Inn and Zehnders. Tbe are famous for their family style Chicken dinners. There are many quaint shops and stores as well. The other biggest attraction is Bronners Christmas Wonderland, the World’s largest Christmas store. It’s immense and has I think, every type of bulb, figurine, light and anything Christmas you would ever hope to find. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bronner%2 ... Wonderland. It’s just awe inspiring there. I’m sure that Judy will come in in this as well as the dinners. There’s tons of things to do in Frankenmuth and a lot of events and festivals during the summer months. If you love German atmosphere, German beer, German cuisine, and Polka music, this is the place to be. It’s about a 2 hour drive south for me.

BJ, you aren’t old fashioned. I don’t have a blender either. I just use my paring knife too for cutting stuff.

Temp hit almost 65 here todsy. Perfect weather for Easter today. We More to come this week.

Hey, Sue! How about a chicken dinner mini get-together mid-July at Zhenders??? I'll be driving past there on July 18th and will be stopping for bakery goodies, but I could do a bit of schedule adjusting. Maybe 17th or July 30???

There is a campground in Frankenmuth. My mouth is watering thinking of it.

Sue, there was a difference back then. We got a n Easter basket of sweets but no junk year round, only on a holiday. Now days children eat that all the time, sods, Chips, etc.Grocery stores have a snack aisle. You have to search for a bag of frozen Lima beans in the 1/4 aile of frozen vegetables. My young children didn’t get all that candy and snacks either. They also spent their childhood outdoors. Lol. I was a mean mother.

Easter has many memories for me. First, people who never attended church showed up in new fancy clothes. My dad didn't believe in that. But we got new pajamas instead of Easter baskets. I'm not saying we didn't get any Easter candy, but I remember the hard boiled eggs more than candy.

Ty and I went on a long walk this afternoon and got caught in rain that wasn't predicted for here. We got home soaked. Luckily it was warm out so it didn't freeze me. I jumped in the shower, then vacuumed up everything that came in with us (well, most. I keep stepping on little pieces I missed in my hurry).

I need to go to the store in the next couple days for salad things for my work day lunches. And fruits for snacks. Hopefully I'll avoid the junk that catches my eyes. I miss having any stores I can order for pickup while here.

Here is a memory about candy most of you will remember. We had a cottage at the tip of Michigan's thumb. It was only 25' by 25', but it had three tiny bedrooms with bunks in two of them. The middle bedroom consisted, literally, of a double bed with a single twin above it. In the 50s, they used to put me and my girl cousin, head to foot, up in the top bunk and our three brothers in the double bed below us. Sometimes there were other younger cousins and their parents there sleeping in two folding double rollaway beds in the living room. It was incredibly crowded, but lots of fun.

Anyway, occasionally, one of the adults would give us kids a quarter each to spend on candy in town. Even more occasionally another adult would also give us a quarter, so we each would have 50 cents. We were rich!! My parents never kept candy in the cottage, so the only time we got it was as a treat when we went to town.

Remember when candy bars were a nickle, and you got a really big candy bar? There was also a little store that had a fantastic selection of penny candy that was really only a penny. And comic books were 10 cents each. So, we'd be taken to town and come back with bags of goodies. And now, you cannot buy even a small candy bar for 50 cents!

we all over slept a bit but made it to church almost on time got there while the opening prayer was being said... even got the rolls into pans before leaving... Rhodes freezer rolls but hay it works we all eat them and enjoyed them... came home and made cake for cake and dip then it was almost time to leave for my son's house.. enjoyed family time and a nice supper... ham cheesy potatoes and pea salad.... growing up it would have been much more elaborate. Just because that is what my mom would do we had Easter Egg hunt and baskets were well hidden even until I was in collage then we would have a meal usually family would come join us ... peeps as never been a favorite nor any of the chocolate covered candies but I do love s'mores now figure that out
today my dd hid some small soup mugs for all of us me included where they hid mine was past were my tether would allow me to go so granddaughter's boyfriend would look were I told him to look... and by that time I'd actually looked quite awhile hmmm think payback  it's been a good day I missed having something with egg in it like deviled eggs this bunch isn't into eggs to much... when we got home made dip for the cake they all were so happy for it... glad they all like this tradition .... it's anytime we want to have it tradition lol
I am going to stay another day leave here on Thursday and either catch Walmart in Idaho Falls or here on the way out of town that may work best as I want to get some bulkier stuff later like toilet paper I'm thinking of getting a swifter one of the wet and dry perhaps I'll be more inclined to take care of the floor ... I'm actually hoping they don't return mom till Sat or even that I go and get her Monday so I can take time to get stuff in from the car... and put away and perhaps mop the kitchen floor...
you all have a great day

Sheila, how do you dip cake? :?

The Masters was good. Tiger dropped out this morning due to an injury. Phil Mickelson made a charge coming from behind and came in tied for second place. Was fun to watch him play. The weather there was perfect today.

I made my potatoes and then put half of the ham steak in the air fryer with a brown sugar glaze on it. It all turned out good. Then a lady knocked on my door and handed me a plate of food. There was a potluck today at the clubhouse that I found out about just this morning and I think this was leftovers from that. She also left me a second plate to bring to my next door neighbor, Gloria.

The bad thing that happened  ... I know better than to use my microwave as a timer because it is too easy to accidentally turn the microwave on instead of the timer only (I have come close to doing that before). Unfortunately, I forgot that and set the timer for the ham on it, but after about 3 minutes, I discovered that I had actually turned on the microwave instead. So the microwave is now toast. :( I went out to the shed to get my old countertop microwave to use until I remembered that I gave it away last month! So I will have to pick up a cheap one at WM this week and use that until I can afford to replace (again!) the one over the stove.

It was hot again today so had to run the AC for most of the day. I just keep it at around 80* tho. At night, I turn it to 77* in my bedroom if I need it. There is no wind at all tonight so I have it running now. Romeow doesn't like the heat and didn't want to go out on the porch today. Lola loved the heat and would lay out there went it was 115*!

I have a lot of food for tomorrow's lunch and dinner and maybe even Tuesday. Still have one little bit of cole slaw left and a couple slices of chocolate pie left.

My mom hid Easter baskets for my brother and I and there were quite a few of them. She would forget where all she hid them and sometimes we would find one months later way in the back of a closet! She always had me all dressed up in a pretty Easter dress and shoes (no hat tho) for church. We dyed eggs and she made a cake that looked like a rabbit. Always had ham. I was really young in those days when she was still married to my dad. Later, they split up and the baskets were a thing of the past until we reconnected many years later.

Off to bed. Tomorrow back to job hunting....
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)
